Very weird forum behavior . . . in Safari

Is anyone else seeing disappearing posts, shortened threads, and missing replies? I've replied to several posts in the last two days. Most of the replies are now missing. Even replies by others. One posts on PAR and CS3 at one time showed 3 replies, now it only shows one, but when I open the thread only the original question is showing.
Maybe it's my browser? Mac OSX 10.6.7, Safari 5.05

Nope. It's not your browser. Happens to me all the time recently using Firefox and Chrome on PC - I post, the reply appears, I come back a few hours later and everything is gone. Sometimes deleting your local browser cookies will fix it, sometimes it's a permanent issue. I suspect it's an issue with the timestamps which are set to a time before the original post even was written, hence the logic of the forum software never makes them appear afterwards. In the past I also had similar issues with timezone offsets where my posts would reappear 2 days later. Go figure. Well, I'll be away for a while maybe they can fix it while I'm in the hospital...

Very Weird AirTunes Behavior!!! (College campus related)

Ok,
I am a graphic designer at a private university and use a Powermac G5 for my work. The G5 DOES NOT have a wireless card. It is connected to the University network, however. I have iTunes 7.0.1. Just recently, I noticed that a popup menubar has shown up at the bottom of my iTunes window, with an option to connect to another source through AirTunes.
First of all, is this even possible to do without a wireless card? The only thing i can think of is that somewhere on the massive University network, someone has an Airport Express. But if that's the case, wouldn't there be more than just one person with one? It seems that this would be a huge security risk.
Any ideas? I'm completely stumped on this one.

Yes, this is totally possible. If the person with control over the Airport Express has checked an option to share his speakers it should come up. The person is likely on the same subnetwork as you are.

Images Problem in Firefox -- very weird -- please help!

Hi all, I need your help here with ideas...
I have built a site that is 100% Flex, full size. It uses images in two different ways: Image controls and HTML text. Both are populated dynamiccally from XML resources.
In IE, these all work perfectly. But I get some very weird behavior in Firefox.
I have a list with a custom item renderer using Images. When the user clicks on the list, a pop-up Canvas is displayed with the same image and an Text area with htmlText in-line Images. In Firefox, these images do not populate -- neither the table nor inside the text -- but the text shows perfectly, even spaced around where the image would be.
But elsewhere in the application, I have an Image control populated the same way, except driven by a datagrid selection, and that one WORKS FINE. I also have other Text areas using htmlText, populated the same way, and the in-line Images work great there in Firefox.
What is going on???

I think I figured it out.
The slashes in the image paths went the wrong direction. \ in stead of /
Apparently, this is no problem for IE, but chokes Firefox. Keep an eye out.

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
    b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
     Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
     COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
     after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
     Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
     Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Apple Banned me, because of a very weird problem with my "Factory Unlocked"

Hi Everybody! Im having a very weird problem with my unlocked iphone 4.
First of all, i would like to apologize because of my english, is not very good. My native language is Spanish.
Well.. Im from Mexico, and here we can buy the iphone Unlocked on the Apple Online Store.
Here's my problem. Apple has exchanged my iphone 3 times.
I returned the iphone the first time because the screen was totally yellowish, other than that everything was working great!, that was by the end of September.
On October 20th, i recieved my second iphone, and then a bigger problem started .
Before i continue, let me give you this information: here in Mexico we have basically 3 cell phone companies
1.- Telcel
2.- Movistar
3.- Unefon
OK, now on october 20th, i recieved my second iphone, and then procced to activate via itunes using my UNEFON sim card (microsim).
And every time i tried to activate it, only got this message onscreen:

I tried telcel sim card, and i could activate my iphone. Then i insterted the Movistar microsim, and it worked too!! Weird thing here is, that, when i put my Unefon sim card on my brothers iphone 4, it worked great! on all of them, internet 3g, phone, wireless , evrything!
I called apple support, and they exchange the iphone for another one.
I recieved the third iphone on October 29. Last friday. and guess what? SAME PROBLEM! different serial number, same week production (week 42) but exactly the same message on itunes.
Very, very frustrated, i called apple again, and after 1 hour with thechnical support, they told me " We are sorry, but we can only offer you, your money back, NO MORE EXCHANGES FOR YOU"
I said why?... i dont want my money back! i want an UNLOCKED iphone!, but they refuse to give me another iphone.
When i asked techincal support, why my unefon sim card worked great on all three of my brothers iphone but not on mine, he just told me, "I really dont know, i guess they just got lucky" ****, this answer put all my trust i had on apple products for years, right on the garbage.
Since they refused to give me another iphone, i accepted my money back, and inmediatly after i finished the call, i asked my brother to buy me one more time an iphone 4 using his name, and his credit card. Now i have to wait until November 8-12 to recieve my new iphone, hoping this time i get a REAL UNLOCKED iphone, and not a partially unlocked iphone.
btw. i even went to Unefon costumer service and bought a new prepiad line, with a new microsim, just to be 100% sure that this problem is not because of the sim. And again didnt worked on my iphone, but it worked on any of my brothers iphone4.

Wierd thing also, one of my brothers bougth an iphone 4 this last week too, but he bought the 16Gb not the 32Gb. His iphone production week is 42 also! and when i put my Unefon sim in his iphone works great!

According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937, there are two official carriers in Mexico (Movistar and Telcel) and neither carrier offers an unlocked phone.

.xmp files showing up in my SD card when accessing RAW files in Finder... Very weird!

I'm having a very weird problem... I'm using a 4GB Scandisk SD card and am shooting my RAW photos on a Canon Rebel 2ti. I'm using a Macbook Pro, 2011 2.3Ghz i5, 4gb of Ram, with Lion v. 10.7.2 and am accessing the SD card RAW files through Finder. I'm secondary clicking on the image file or double clicking them as PS is my default opening program for RAW files. When I hit the "Done" key on any of the Photoshop files, a new .xmp file shows up in Finder. When I open it, it's a Microsoft Messenger for Mac 8 License Agreement...
I do have Microsoft Office 11 installed and have never used Messenger. It's not a huge deal, but it's driving me crazy and it's totally weird!

It's a lot of separate, unrelated things happening to you in one long chain, but each step is normal and explainable.
You are opening raw files straight from a card into Photoshop. Photoshop will open them in Camera Raw. Camera Raw's preferences are set to save changes in XMP sidecar files. You are clicking Done, which applies the default Camera Raw processing, and that change generates an XMP file to store these new settings. That's why an XMP file is showing up in the same folder. On a computer, that's fine. But writing back out to a camera card with a device other than the camera is not recommended. What is recommended is to use another, faster way to preview raw files on a card without changing them (Adobe Bridge, Lightroom, Apple Aperture, Photo Mechanic, etc.), so that the card's left untouched as it should be.
If you don't want the XMP file to be generated, you have to do just one of the following:
In Camera Raw preferences, change the "Save image settings in" option to "Camera Raw database", not "Sidecar XMP files".
Instead of clicking Done every time, which applies any changes, click Cancel instead, if you were just looking and not editing.
Use something other than Photoshop to preview raw files. Most of the other ways are faster than opening them in Photoshop. The recommended workflow is to use a camera downloading utility to look through all the images on the card at once (instead of one by one as you are doing), and then select only the ones you want to bring into your computer. Bridge (via File > Get Photos from Camera, not by browsing), Lightroom, Aperture, and iPhoto all have that capability.
As to why double-clicking an XMP file opens a Messenger license agreement: As you probably know, the system has to figure out what program should open a file with a given filename extension. It sounds like maybe both Adobe and Microsoft have used the XMP extension, and the Office installer probably associated it with some type of MS Messenger file. So when you double-click an XMP file, Mac OS X opens Messenger. Since you have not used Messenger before, it's showing you the "first run" screen for Messenger, and Microsoft has set it up so that you have to click Agree on the license agreement before using it. If you never click Agree, it will still be the "first run" next time you open Messenger, whether you meant to or not. You can use Get Info in the Mac Finder to reassign XMP to open in another program.
You probably didn't expect so many things to happen from just opening a raw file off a card, but that's the way it worked out.

IPad Air running 8.2 - one of the two cameras shows very weird colors.

This started a couple weeks ago. The outward camera view shows very weird colors. I have looked on line for a solution and found a reference that said the 'live camera filter is stilled turned on' but I don't think live filters exist any more. ive tried everything I can think of. Attached is a screen shot when using the camera.

Try the standard troubleshooting steps in this order:
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds). No data will be lost.
Restore: Connect your device to iTunes on your computer, backup, and then select Restore to Factory.

Unfortunately it does not help to delete the locks in SM12 - they keep popping up.
Regarding SM50, then we see the process here. But when we kill the process it just pops up again.
I have now asked the BASIS guys to kill the request at OS level.
I just find it pretty weird that we cannot stop a load from within the system.

A very weird echoey sound.

I just bought this laptop and when trying out music files, I noticed that the sound is very weird..like an echoey sort of sound. For example, for a certain song, I can only hear the background music for the most part and the words are very unclear like they're coming from a very deep place. I can't really explain it. I tried downloading like 10 songs and it's the same problem with all of them. I moved the songs to my phone and the sound was normal.
I can sense this effect for the videos as well, only in this case it's less obvious because there's no music.
I also tried different players; WMP, VLC..etc.

Try a clean install of the audio driver as follows.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.

When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, restart the notebook and let Windows fully load. Open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation. When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices. Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if this has has any effect on the issue.

Very strange desktop behavior on brand new macbook pro

i just received this laptop in the mail, and as i was adding come 'essential' programs, i started to notice an odd behavior:
using safari, i was downloading applications from version tracker. for instance, Textwranger.
for some reason, after the file downloads and unpacks, the temporary download file xxxx.dmg.download doesn't disappear until i place my mouse over it.
then, the file that is unpacked does not show up on my desktop unless i specifically search for it using spotlight.
i also have a file in the trash that wont delete when i empty it : UnRarX
i literally have only been using this computer for an hour or so.

Yes, the finder prefs do have that option. While you are in Finder app, right under "Finder" in the menubar, go to Preferences (command comma) and under the General tab, check Hard disk "show these items on the Desktop".. and under the Sidebar tab, check hard disk in "show these items in the Sidebar".
If you are lacking normally displayed items or having problems with settings or system differences, do the "Reset PRAM" by restarting and holding the command, option, p and r keys until you hear the third chime. Do not release those keys until you have heard the THIRD chime ... it is important.

URGENT - very weird ClassCastException

im debugging now for about 4h and time is running out, i have no idea what the following exception could mean.
im calling several webservices and store their results (plain integer) in VC datastores, the datastores are properly populated.
the called webservice is an application-service with full logging, it doesnt throw any exception.
in NWA the log is blown up with this exception (something serious it seems, every stacktrace-step is an separate log-entry, very weird)

thanks for your answer atul, i already checked all passed values twice and didnt find anything null, all values seem to get properly passed, the applicationservice is properly executed and then the whole webdynpro-thing crashes.
have you already seen these log-entries? and what about exceptions with the stacktrace having seperate log-entries?
currently, i am recreating the VC-model from scratch. it seems using datastores as a poor-mans-alternative to JOINs messes things up....

Very weird dhcp issue

We've started 're-vlanning' our main location here, breaking up depts
into their own vlans.
All seems ok so far, aside from a real doozy.
For the IT vlan, we have one address that will not talk to our web
content mgmt appliance. It's the 2nd address in our assignable pool,
and it doesn't matter if it's dhcp or statically assigned, that address
will not talk to that device.
That is the *only* device that cannot be reached from this particular
address in our dept vlan, every other one works fine.
Any ideas on this?

So.... the title of this thread should actually be 'Very weird non-DHCP
issue', since your own testing confirms this has nothing to do with DHCP?
If you do a LAN trace on this machine as well as your web content
management appliance do you see packets on either side? Both sides? If
not on both sides but you do on the source (workstation) side see
packets going out, then get LAN traces after each network device
(switch, router, firewall, etc.) to see when the packets disappear.
Feel free to post the LAN traces somewhere with descriptions of IPs,
ports, and what you should be seeing, if you want to post them somewhere
for review.

Very Weird Speed Issue

Hi All,
This is a strange one, so I'll try and keep it short and simple.
Any speedtest I do, including speedtester.bt.com comes back exceptionally slow. usually around 300-400Kps. However, when downloading from newsgroups, the speed is 4.5MBps. Very weird. This is on BT Infinity with a sync rate of approx 38000
Any ideas?

I am the author of the "BT_UK Problem" thread and have seen a great improvement in tests to the UK from the UK over the past day.
Below is the best test taken today:
London has improved too,but it and some other UK servers seem to be having probs with upload readings.
So from my seat it is looking better and is/was I quess partly due the outage [power cut] that happened in the Birmingham area a few days ago.
From the outstanding works list there is work taking place in the London area,so the tests to London might get better.
