Vid Rate problem

I'm getting tired of producers insisting upon capturing themselves. I have learned that it only leads to problems, but they want to save money and it only ends up taking more time in the long run . . .
Anyway, she captured DVCPRO HD 720p60 footage that was shot in 30P. The "Vid Rate" on most of the clips reads at 29.97fps. On a couple clips, with no apparent rhyme or reason, the Vid Rate reads at 59.94. The video plays back double speed, but the audio plays normally. The second half of the clip is black, with the audio still playing underneath.
I haven't seen this before and she had to rent a deck to capture, so I'm sure she'd rather not have to recapture. Is there a solution to this or are we up the creek?

I think your up the creek and need to redigitize some of your material. This footage sounds like Varicam to me, which if they change frame rates to over/under crank, requires that you digitize that area of tape separate from the rest. The shooter should actually break rolls and switch to a new tape if they change frame rate, few shooters that I have worked with understand this practice. I am working with some of this footage that was down-converted for an offline, with out changing rolls at frame rate changes when they downconverted. When I went to online the clips things were out of whack and I had to bring the deck in again to spot digitize the frame rate changed areas of tape to get back to square one.
If it is Varicam, there is a special capture setting for this that enables FCP to find the flagged frames of frame rate and auto convert. Keep in mind that regardless of what frame rate was shot, Varicam always records internally to 59.94, then remaps the frames to the desired frame rate.
I second the notion that if the producers don't understand the technology, they shouldn't be touching it. And I am often alarmed these days at what little some producers and shooters know about the format they are working with. The expression "knows enough to be dangerous" often applies. Of course so does "fix it in post".

  • K7 Pro AGP Transfer Rate Problem

I have noticed that despite this board claiming to support AGP 1x AND 2x rates, I can only get 1x out of it.
Sideband addressing is also supposedly supported but disabled. :O
I have altered these settings to AGP2x and sideband enabled using GF Tweak utility but this resulted in crashes, (when both or either individual setting was altered).  X( Powerstrip just won't make the changes.
    Is this a mobo/vid.card problem?
A tech told me the other day that it could be OS related?
PLEASE help me optimise my machine's gaming performance...
    My system is
    Athlon 700/MSI 6195 K7 Pro v1.0b (AMIBIOS v1.3)
    512MB PC133 SDRAM (AGP Aperture: 128MB)
ASUS GF2MX400 64MB (planning to move to GF4MX460)
    Creative SB Live! Value
    WD 20GB HDD 7200RPM
    Win98SE

Well, after trawling through about 1000 posts in the old forum here and also MSI forum @ amdmb.com, I have come to the following (depressing) conclusions:
The AMD-751 Irongate Northbridge chipset has well-known stability problem with AGP2x rate and therefore will have to stay stay at 1x AGP transfers.  ;(
    I tried the main suggestions:
    1. Update AMD chipset drivers from AMD's website (v1.30 = final release containing AGP driver v4.80)
    2. Use Geforce Tweak Utility or NVMax4 (both software for editing registry) to override registry settings to enable Irongate AGP2x & Sideband memory addressing. This just caused system crashes.
Powerstrip is another vid tweaker but works differently to the other two and just will not make changes that aren't supported.
Although Sideband memory addressing (for boosting data rates and performance) is supported by MS-6195 m/b, it has been deliberately disabled by ASUS in their V7100Pro (GF2MX400 64MB) BIOS, as it is a performance gain with serious stability risks (other MFRs also have done this deliberately on certain cards). So even though mobo & vid card hardware  "suppport" SBA, no amount of regediting (GTU or NVMax4) was gonna get anything more than a lockup out of that "feature". There is a beta BIOS around at an ASUS download website, which may have sideband enabled, but "enter at your own risk"...
I also note that MS-6195 is AGP rev1.0 whereas most current vid cards are AGPrev2.0 - this appears to be a voltage difference issue with minor significance (?) I guess as I noted plenty of succesful use of GF3Ti cards with K7 Pro mobo's, so a hopefully a "tarted-up" NV17 (GF2Ti) chip in the GF4MX series should be OK...
So my next move is to just try a cheap Eagle GF4MX460 card as a stop-gap upgrade until the 333FSB Athlon's arrive in OZ and then it'll be "Adios" to the whole PC...

  • Vid-rate too high!

    Hello...
I am kind of desperate already for I have to hand in a DVD in a couple of hours and I´ve been fighting with it for long. It´s a HUGE DVD and when it finishes encoding, it doesn´t format because the vid-rate is too high. I have used at first quicktime exports from FCP, and now I used Quicktime conversion exports (DV PAL, best quality, etc.) Usually that worked well, but now I´m desperate. Please someone tell me what to do!!!!!
    thanks!!

  • Sync and frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3

Just like the subject states, I am indeed having frame rate problems importing video to Flash CS3.
When I export a video from Premiere with the settings:
    1280x720
    frame rate of 23.976
using H264 or Animation (basically every codec produces the same results),
"embed video on SWF and play in timeline"
When I do this the file exports fine. Playing it in Quicktime works fine and the audio syncs up no problem. But when I import it into Flash using the same settings, for some reason the movie clip is now too fast in that the video does not match the audio and seems to be at more like 12 fps now (just a guestimate). The action of the video is over long before the audio even comes in.I have verified that the frame rate is correct in Flash so it's not that.
I've done this literally hundreds of times in the past and suddenly it does not work and I can not figure out why. I'm not even really using video, but actually artwork that I am putting together as an animatic for an animated piece so the video could not have been imported incorrectly or digitized wrong either. Can someone out there please tell me how to make this work? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
    -Mike

Thanks for you quick response however it really doesn't apply to what I am doing in any way. I will not be uploading the video to a server. I am using the imbed function so I can use it as a layer and then animate over it. It is just reference and will ultimately be deleted. The Fla file does indeed carry the same specs as I stated in my first post. I have done it this way dozens of times and I am trying to figure out why it suddenly will not work.

  • Audio sample rate problems

    Hi,
I have a quicktime movie I'm trying to edit in FCP but the audio is 22050Hz and I don't see that option in my sequence settings. Now I'm getting little audio pops & I can't figure out how to get rid of them.

I'n not understanding what you mean by originate, I guess. I downloaded it from youtube to a mov on my computer.

  • Sample Rate problem as well as CoreAudio overload and anyone using DFH?

I've only switched from Pro Tools to Logic Pro recently and am confused about a lot of things. I am running Toontrack DFH Superior with 7 audio tracks and one more software instrument track. I keep getting message about sample rate problem and something about conflict betwwen logic and external device. The only device I use is a M-Audio 49e MIDI controller and the M-Box, and I am running these on a Quad PowerMac G5 wih 4 GB RAM... I've tried to adjust the setting here and there, but none of them seem to work... Please help!

Often MIDI driver conflicts and processor overloads, or bottlenecks too. Freezing, removing old drivers, if you really are running Jaguar and if it is actually installed from those days then it is time to do a fresh install and maybe use Panther or Tiger. Panther can be found really cheap these days. As far as old drivers you don't use for any audio or MIDI interfaces you once used with your sytem, are there any? If so which ones? You may be able to direct yourself to your old driver uninstall by looking at the receipt of whichever driver you no longer use. Also, Jaguar was just really good at getting this message to come out, in my experience. Some plugins require alot of MIDI I/O or CPU power, some of NI's stuff really (momentarily) spikes on MIDI data input.

  • Sample rate problem

I have an odd sample rate problem: I have put in some music at 44.1 (while all other audio is at 48kHz.)
At most points this is, surprisingly, not an issue. But if I haved 4 channels of 48kHz sound then EITHER the 44.1 sound OR the 48kHz sound will not play.
Anyone know why this would be? I obviously need to redo the 44.1kHz sound - is there a quick and easy way to do this, or do I need to reimport everything seperately?

Export the 44.1khz audio as an AIF, 48khz, 16 bit file themn import the resulting file. Normally you'd want to do this with QT Pro before importing it into FCP.

  • Capturing 24PA at 23.98 Vid Rate

I am capturing 24PA from a DVX-100A using the Easy Setup for advance pulldown removal and 23.98 sequence timeline. For some reason, the first tape captures at 23.98 vid rate, but the next at 29.97. Seems to go back to 23.98 if I back out and hit the Easy Setup again. What am I doing wrong? Any ideas?

If you aren't changing your capture preset in the system preferences to your default it will default back after you close the Log and Capture window.
Set your preference or change it in the capture preset of the log and capture window for each time.
    Good luck,

  • Changing vid rate in sequence?

Can anyone tell me how to switch my sequence vid rate to 23.98? That's what my footage is at and currently my sequence is at 29.97.... when i drag a clip into the timeline it wants me to render the video, and I assume that it's the vid rate!
    Thank you!!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Final Cut express doesn't support thrue 24 fps.
    Final Cut pro does.
You can try to convert your clip with free utility like:
    http://www.xs4all.nl/~jeschot/home.html
or commercial one like Nattress plugins:

  • Ghosting effect - Is it a frame rate problem?

I've just made a music video lyric video (I'm still really new to movie editing) and there's this ghosting effect. Does anyone know what may cause it? Is it a frame rate problem, or the frame blend thing?
Here's the cliup on YouTube: (You can really see the ghosting when you watch it in HD.)
I'm using Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 on Windows 7 (32 bit)

hmm, looks like you need to read a few things maybe...to understand some stuff.
Here's some links I got from google for you
    NTSC
Short for National Television System Committee. The NTSC is responsible for setting television and video standards in the United States (in Europe and the rest of the world, the dominant television standards are PAL and SECAM). The NTSC standard for television defines a composite video signal with a refresh rate of 60 half-frames (interlaced) per second. Each frame contains 525 lines and can contain 16 million different colors.
The NTSC standard is incompatible with most computer video standards, which generally use RGB video signals

    ================
Soooo, you didnt export ntsc and it looks like you upscaled to 1080p but a different fps than original also.
In gereral if you start at say 24fps and make it 30fps, your editor has to "make" new frames ( add 6 per second ) and it does that by creating new frames out of what you have on timeline. Sometimes a VBR 2 pass will give you better results than 1 pass, but you have to experiment a bit ( just export small section of timeline for tests...and try to use area where you see your "ghosting" ).
    good luck

  • Smaple rate problem with FCP 7

    Hi!
I have a problem with the sample rate on FCP 7
After the capture comes this message:
The audio sample rate of one or more of your captured media files does not match the sample rate on your source tape. This may cause the video and audio of these media files to be out of sync. Make sure the audio sample rate of your capture preset matches the sample rate of your tape.
My vide playback preset is Apple FireWirePal and the audio Firewire DV
What can I do for this?

If you look in your camera menus I am certain there is a way to turn on the display that shows the sample rate of your audio. It will say either 12-bit or 16-bit. 12-bit on the camera is 32k, 16-bit is 48k.
As Michael says, if it's not drifting out of sync you don't have a problem in FCP. The only thing is you may have a problem with the camera not recording correctly, which may cause other problems.

The fixed assets is depreciated from Nov,2007.
There is one problem that after the fixed assets is depreciated, the value for the fixed assets is added , the finance clerk have to adjust the added value from fixed assets account to Exchange Difference-Gain/Loss account by manual.
    Our problem is
How to configure in order to make  the exchage rate difference into Exchange Difference-Gain/Loss account for purchase order with account assignment category, not the original assigned account in purchase order item.
    Many thanks

    Hi Fanny
Even though the question is bit unclear, I guess you are looking for the T-Code OBYC. Use transaction key KDM for configuring the exchange gain/loss

    Hello Friends,
The Currency Translation of all BW Web reports is ending with below error message.
After opening report on Web, below things are not working and ending with same below error message.

    Working Fine in RSRT
    Working Fine BEx Analyser
So, it is not working only on Web and working fine with Excel.
I have found some SAP Notes (812737 & 995675) on this problem, but according to these Note suggesstions, we have checked for errors and unable to find any errors or blanks in Exchange rates (TCURR or OB08 ). We have also checked programme "RCURTEST" and no solution was found.
Can any one please suggesst us. what could be the problem?
we are on 3.5 version with patch 13.

  • PowerMac G4 533DA & HDTV - video resolution / refresh rate problem

Hope someone can help, I need to access more resolution / refresh rates than I currently get in the Leopard display control:
I have a PowerMac G4 533 Digital Audio running Leopard 10.5.8 (unsupported).  It has an upgraded AGP videocard, a ( flashed PC - RV200 chipset) Radeon 7500 w/ 64MB and a DVI output w/ a VGA adapter.  I have used this Mac perfectly with my 19" widescreen Samsung SyncMaster 940BW, at a resolution of 1440 x 900 / 60Hz / millions of colors.  This monitor is actually for my MacPro, but I used it for the G4 to set it up.
I  moved it to my living room to use as a basic HTPC.  Since it runs Leopard, it has up to date VLC, Quicktime for video files and a working Superdrive for movies.  I don't expect it to play anything more than 480p properly, I think that was the best I got on YouTube.  But if I have a DVD ripped to DivX or MP4 it plays them fine on the Samsung monitor.
I connected it to my Viewsonic N3760w 37" 1080 HDTV.  It turns on, gray screen w/ Apple and gives me a working desktop.  The problem is that I cannot get it to give me the correct resolution and more importantly it seem to have the wrong refresh rate.  It is currently set at 1280 x 768 / 60Hz / millions of colors.  The screen give me like a small line slowly moving up across screen, higher refresh rates only make it movie faster up the screen.
According to my Viewsonic, these are the resolutions for computer using the VGA plug on the tv:
    PC - 1360x768 (preferred) , 1024x768, 1280x768
    Mac G3/G4/G5 - up to 1280 x 1024, 1280x720 (preferred)
Please note all of these are lower resolution than my Samsung monitor.  My Viewsonic also has on screen adjustment of " phase " and " frequency " as well as the usual color, contrast, etc available.  Is there a 3rd party app to manually adjust the resoluion and refresh rate?  I have seen Windows programs, does one exist for Mac OS X?
TIA, sorry for the long post

My Viewsonic also connected by VGA, no problem.
I wish I knew more. I checked out the app you did a trial of. I noticed this statement on their web site:  Quote
    "After rebooting monitor stays blank
For some reason your monitor does not accept the installed frequency. SWITCH IT OFF!"
This is the type of statement that would 'worry me.' -- having the phrase: SWITCH IT OFF! all in caps seems to imply a possibility of damage...which I mentioned in my initial post. (and the site goes on to talk about how you should even then connect another monitor to change the settings you've made that were not accepted).
As I said, though, I wish I knew more for sure about this. It seems that you not only did the obvious of checking System Peferences>Display, but also realize the Viewsonic has buttons that can influence it's screen image, most about position of the image on the screen but at least one item about resolution on mine. (under Setup Mode)
For what it's worth, my Viewsonic is about 6 years old now, still fine, and has eight (8) possible resolutions shown in System Preferences.
    Re: Your numbers.
    It is currently set at 1280 x 768 / 60Hz / millions of colors.
    PC - 1360x768 (preferred) , 1024x768, 1280x768
    Mac G3/G4/G5 - up to 1280 x 1024, 1280x720 (preferred)
If you're only talking about a difference of 1280 x 768 and G4 1280 x 1024, perhaps just stretching the picture using the Viewsonic buttons is the way to go.
Or, from the numbers, perhaps the G4 just wants a resolution closest to it's preferred state!?
    Anyhow, good luck.

  • Live! Cam Video IM Pro VF0410 Frame Rate Problem

Hello I'm from Turkey sorry for my English first. I bought this camera yesterday and i tried it on 2 PC.First one is using Win Vista Home Premium (4Gb RAM + Core 2 Duo E6750),second one is Win XP Home (Gb Ram + Pentium M .8). In these PC's i can't get more than 4 or 5 FPS. I only saw 8 FPS for one second. I downloaded the?latest drivers from the site which is v.0.0 (2.68 Mb).Nothing changed it is 4 FPS again. What can i do what is this problem. Is my camera faulty ?

I too have the same problem. It seems to be a flaw with the software or the hardware. If you disable the auto exposure setting the frame rate will still site at 4-5 fps.
If you then move the exposure slider to the far left and then back to the right the frame rate will immediatley increase to 20-30 fps, but the exposure is quite poor even with the adjustment of brightness, contrast, etc. Is this a software bug or a hardware flaw?
