Video acquisition from frame grabber

I wanted to acquire image from a video camera which only has analog output. To do that, I used a framegrabber, called :"Hauppaugel analog video giditizer".
However, as I can see from the list, the framegrabber provides image with YUY 2 format and in the list of my Labview vision module, I could not find such type.
I have written a code for acquiring image which works fine with normal web cameras. however, when I want to use it for acquiring the image from frame grabber, it gives following errors:
1. Error code: 1074396120 Not an image
2. Error code: 1074396015 Cannot connect to camera, it may be in use.
I guess it has something to do with the formats of the picture, but I really don't have experience with that. Could you help me out? The code is attached.
I lookforward to your advice and thank you in advance for the help.

Hello,
First, you have to know that your camera must be Direct Show, otherwise, you won't be able to use it in LabVIEW.
If it is compatible, then you will be able to grab image using IMAQ USB, but keep in mind that this set of VI is no longer supported as IMAQdx is fully compatible with DirectShow cameras, and much better than IMAQ USB.

  • How to remove noise on images acquire from Digital 8 VCR to PCI-1409 frame grabber ?

I have some constant noise in the form of a discontinuous white horizontal line running accross the top of images which were grabbed from a digital 8 video signal. I have tried all the settings in MAX to remove these and have check the integrity of my connections, but to no avail ?

    Kyle,
I found that adjusting the acqu window did the trick.
It seems that all the video i have on Digital 8 tapes gives me the same problem. When i use the camera directly to the frame grabber there is no problem.
In due course i'll try another camera with the Dig 8 VCR and compare these output picture quality.
    Thanks for the advice,

  • Converting images from a Matrox frame grabber to LV?

How can I convert an image captured with ActiveMIL Lite from a Matrox frame grabber to an IMAQ Vision image?
I grab the image in LV using the ActiveMIL Lite functions. After that I will analyse the image using IMAQ Vision. So I have to convert the Matrox image to a LabView Image.
    Thanks for help

    Uli,
I believe Graftek Imaging has LV drivers for Matrox frame grabbers. You can call Robert Eastlund at (800) 441-2118 and he will be able to help you.

i am using PCI-6033E IO card and i would like to send 5 volts (high logic ) to the trigger box. the trigger box will trigger the frame grabber card, that i am using for image acquisition.

    Hello;
The first thing you need to figure out is the shape of the trigger pulse needed.
In case you just need a logic high TTL pulse, you can use one of the digital lines of your DAQ device.
In case you need a pulse train (multiple trigger pulses), you will need to configure one of the general purpose counters to accomplish that task.
You can find examples in both Labview and NI-DAQ showing how to program your DAQ board to accomplish both approaches.
    Hope this helps.

    Hi sandeepchinni,
I agree with gunnesjr that we need more information about what you mean by Linear Array Scanner.  Like he said if it is a line or area scan camera then yes it will most likely be compatible.  A little correction from what he said.  You do not need to purchase NI Vision if all you need to do is acquire images.  The framegrabber will come with the software that is need to work.  If you need to do any kind of image processing then you will need NI Vision.  The following knowledgebase lists what is installed with driver for the card.  Which Vis are Installed with NI-IMAQ and Vision Acquisition Software?

  • NI PCIe-1433 Camera Link frame grabber programming using VC++

Hello, I have a Basler Camera Link-compatible camera and they use the NI PCIe-1433 Camera Link frame grabber as the image acquisition device.
Right now, I want to develop some applications on that camera and need to do programming on the NI PCIe-1433 by VC++.
So I want to know where I can find the software development kit for the NI PCIe-1433. For example, I can control the camera to grab the image by using the different functions(such as imgGrab(), or somthing like that ) from that software development kit.If there are some sample code that would be better.

    Hi Wrsbj,
The IMAQ functions that you mentioned are contained in the IMAQ driver, which is used to acquire from Camera Link frame grabbers. I would also check the compatibility chart, to make sure that you get the version you need. As for example programs, you can take a look at this KnowledgeBase article concerning building and running the IMAQ examples in VC++.

  • IMAQ Vision Software with FlashBus MX Frame Grabber?

Is it possible to use IMAQ Vision Software with a FlashBus MX Frame Grabber Card? In the manual I only find references to NI acquisition boards. Unfortunately I have to make do with the hardware I already have.

    Heiko,
It may be possible, but you will need to find out if there are any LabVIEW drivers for the card.
Vision analysis can be split into two components. The first half is getting the images into the computer with a frame grabber card. This can be done easily using NI frame grabbers, or with varying degrees of difficulty using other frame grabbers that have LabVIEW drivers.
Once the images are in the computer, IMAQ Vision doesn't care where they came from, so it can be used to manipulate images regardless of the source.

  • IMovie HD (6) will not capture video taken from HV20 in PF24 mode

The preview window shows the video just fine. iMovie complains that Quicktime doesn't have the ability (codec/plugin) to edit or playback my video. I find it ironic that software claiming to support HD and HDV can't read the video. It says to re-install iMovie. Of course, that didn't work. I read some blurbs online from people with similar errors, but mostly that involved copying a codec from their buddy. Is there a way to make this work natively without having to resort to piracy? I did upgrade my machine to Leopard, but the Apple support person didn't seem to think that would keep Quicktime and iMovie HD from working together.

Avoid 24p. It's a format which was introduced only to allow people who couldn't afford film cameras to shoot on video and then have the material transferred to film to show in cinemas. It's for people who shoot mini-documentaries, etc.
It's not a video standard: in America the frame rate for video is 30fps (frames per second) and in Europe it's 25 fps.
iMovie edits video, so it expects one of those two normal frame rates:
The only 'p' frame rate which iMovie copes with is a "rogue" rate introduced by JVC with their first hi-def camcorders which recorded at 720p (720 pixels high instead of the more usual 1080, and shot in 'progressive' mode instead of the more usual 'interlaced' mode which video normally assumes).
If you do manage to import 24p ('progressive') then you'll probably find that the video plays back at twice the normal speed, as 'progressive' frames are just single frames (like film) instead of being split into two half-frame "fields", which is the normal case with video.
So 24p is for "pretending" to shoot film. Try not to use it if you're shooting video!

  • Media encoder messes up with green video and flashing frames

I've had this issue on three different computers now.  I have Premier Pro CS4 with MP4 video in the timeline.  Nothing too intensive.  I export to Adobe Media Encoder with settings of H.264, 640x360, 30fps, square pixels, 3-6Mbps.
When I do this about half way through the encoding process the video goes completely green (have preview turned on to detect the error) and AME slows WAY down.  Between long bouts of green video there are random flashes from frames shown earlier in the video.  I've encoded full HD H.264 video on this machine in the recent past, so there's nothing wrong with the computer.  Just like the other computers, something in the Adobe settings has gotten messed up.  I'm not sure which component translates the premier pro project file to something AME understands (Adobe Bridge?).  I tried a complete uninstall/re-install - no change.
I had Adobe Audition 2.0 installed briefly on this machine, but that shouldn't have messed anything up, right(?)  I noticed that it installed Adobe Bridge, which would be a version much older than what shipped with CS4.  Audtion was removed before I did the re-install of CS4.  You would think that would repair Bridge to CS4.
My other thought is that the Mainconcept video codec installation is messed up.  Does anyone know which files are involved and what date/time stamp I should look for to make sure I have all the correct versions?  How do I re-install just the mainconcept codecs?  There doesn't seem to be a straight forward way to do this in win7.
There have been other sightings of this issue on creativecow.net forums, but no definitive help.  I now can't get my documentary rendered, so any help would be much welcomed.
    TIA.

After days of uninstalling and re-installing...well...It turns out that PPro has a bug with H.264 (.mp4) files on the time line.  I swapped all the files to the online versions (full HD, .mov, H.264, 50Mbps) and media encoder didn't crash anymore.
What's strange is that I used media encoder to create the offline .mp4 files for editing.  The Mainconcept codec created the files, so you would think it wouldn't puke and die when using these files to encode the sequence to a final output - considering it's using the mainconcept codec to do it again.  Dumb.  There's likely a bug somewhere in the Mainconcept codec causing my intense headache.
So my issue is *kinda* fixed.  I just need to find a better codec for intermediate offline editing.  The full HD copies cause renders and encoding to slow down by a factor of 6.  Adobe, if you're listening, please fix this.

  • Labview won't believe that my frame grabber board is configured?

Thank you in advance for any help
I am new to labview. I am sorry if this is a silly question, but I have worked on it for hours and haven't been able to find the solution.
I am using a NI-IMAQ PCI-1422 board to aquire images from a Pulnix TM 1020 camera. I can successfully see the camera from both the MAX and IMAQ vision builder. When I go to the DAQ Solution Wizard in Labview it says that "You have no DAQ hardware currently configured," and it sends me back to the Measurement and Automation Explorer 3.0 It looks configured to me and all my attempts to configure it more fully didn't make the system happy so I don't understand what else I need to do.
Also, where are the instrument driver VIs f
or this? Do I already have them hidden somewhere or do I need to go and download them?
Any advice that you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Also, in case you are bored, here is an overview of what I am trying to do. I want to write a labview program which will allow me to specify a delay in seconds and then have labview acquire a an image from the frame grabber board and save it to disk, wait the specified delay period and then acquire and save ...

    Anita,
Since you are using an NI-IMAQ PCI-1422 board you will not be able to use the DAQ Solution Wizard. Your board uses the NI-IMAQ driver software instead of the NI-DAQ software. You will want to use the Vision VIs which can be found by right-clicking on the block diagram and selecting Functions->All Functions->NI Measurements->Vision.
You can find some LabVIEW examples by checking your LabVIEW directory and navigating to the Examples->Vision directory. You can also find these examples by using the LabVIEW example finder by navigating to Help->Find Example

Place a video file from a URL
Place a video file from a valid URL to play the streaming video in the exported PDF or SWF file. The video must be a valid Flash Video file (FLV or F4V) or H.264-encoded file (such as MP4).
Select an empty frame or a video object containing a video you want to replace.
Choose Video From URL from the Media panel menu.
Specify the URL and click OK.

I want to use videos downloaded from youtube in the AR app Aurasma, but, I don't know how to move the video clips into my photo album to do this.

1 - select the photo(s) in iPhoto and export (file menu ==> export) to a desktop folder - mount the USB drive and drag that folder to it.  I usually use the export custom size option to limit teh photo to the maximum pixel dimension of the photo frame letting me have more photos on the USB drive
2 - to restore the iPhoto icon in the dock launch iPhoto from the Applications folder and right click on the icon in the Dock sleecting keep in Dock
