Video card is dead : 4VDC/1/40000003: Video Controller

Hello
Machine: Intel iMac 24 "
Graphics: the infamous GeForce 8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GeForce8Series # Problems).
Following the conviction of Nvidia to fix / pay for their defective product, Apple exchange video card on the MacBookPro for free: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377.
Although the card is not the same model, symptoms (gradual deterioration of performance, first on resource-intensive applications - games, video - and then all the time, ending with a final crash) and the message of error (4VDC/1/40000003: Video Controller) are the same, and a lot of people seem to be concerned also with iMacs (see Apple forums and wikipedia).
I am not aware that Apple takes care of repairs on these machines, for now. I guess they wait a conviction of Nvidia first...
Do someone have more information about that ?
What should I do to have free exchange of that well known buggy card ?
I know nothing about law, but how many sad consumers are needed to get things done ?

You must either call AppleCare or take the computer to an Apple service center. We cannot help you with such hardware issues, and the Discussions is not the place to rant or complain about such matters especially when you are uninformed.

  • Can I attach an external monitor to my iMac G5 (ALS) if the video card is dead?

I don't know for a fact that the video card is dead, but the screen on my iMac (PPC/ALS) 20" gradually started flaking out over several months and is now dead. Computer boots up fine and I'm looking at it through target mode right now.  I want to keep using the computer if I can, so I am wondering if I can attach an external monitor through the DVI slot even if the video card is kaput.  I'd like to get an opinion or two on this before I buy a used monitor and cable.  Thanks!

You have found the answer. If the video chipset is OK but there is a fault in the internal display or its cabing, an external monitor will work. However, if the video chipset--which is farther "upstream" in the system--goes bad, the option of an external monitor is off the table.

  • MBPro video controller

    Hi,
After a series of events with my MBPro's screen going weird purple/magenta color intermittently and making text all but illegible, I ran the AHT (Apple Hardware Test).
This returned an error stating there was a problem with the video controller:
    "4VDC/1/40000003:Video Controller"
Can anyone say if this a user repairable issue and if not how expensive repairs would be?
The machine's about 3 years old.
    Many thanks,
    TT

Very many thanks for the info, wjosten.
Thought this might be the case.
Considering the age of the machine this could well be a write-off
But I'll get it priced-up as you suggest.

  • Multimedia Audio Controller, and Video Controller(VGA compatible) are missing on Windows XP(32Bit) SP3

    Hi.
My Desktop Computer(Intel P 4, 512MB of RAM, and Graphics Card  with 256MB of RAM)
Also, My Desktop Computer with P 4 doesn't have any access internet since there is no network adapter is installed. As a result, I would not be able to run the pc scan utility, or  Reader a web-based applet that identifies my GPU or Audio controller
and finds the latest graphics driver for my GPU, and Audio.
I have two Windows XP installations:
Windows XP SP2(32Bit) which is old and it seems it infected by some viruses.
I have installed another fresh clean Windows XP(32Bit) SP3. However, I have two devices not detected well by Windows XP.
First of all, when saying that I have multi-operationgs systems, I mean there are two operating systems installed on my PC(SP2, SP3) both are 32Bit. The first Windows SP2(NOT installed by me) has all multimedia audio card installed well,
and has SCSI and RAID Host Controller shown the device manager. However, only the VGA is not installed on Windows SP2. However, the second one Windows SP3(Installed by me) has VGA not installed, Multimedia audio NOT installed, and there is no SCSI and RAID
    Host Controller in device manager.
First:  Yes, my motherboard has integrated video, and integrated audio card
According to the screen shots above, then
The vendor ID of Multimedia Audio Controller  is 8086 and the device ID is
    24D5.
The vendor ID of Video Controller  is 8086 and the device ID is
    2572.
I AM EXPECTING THAT KNOWING THE VENDOR ID AND THE DEVICE ID WILL LET ME QUICKLY FIND THE APPROPRIATE  DRIVER. HOWEVER, I COULDN'T FIND THE APPROPRIATE DRIVER.
Thus, could you please help me to find them?
I have tried installing a soundMAX card  driver, however, I found this error.
I have checked the other Windows XP SP2(32Bit) which is oder installed, and it seems it infected by some viruses.
However, the Multimedia Audio on that Windows is installed well. As here: I only posted these screen shots to show what kind of device is Multimedia Audio Card

  • Vga video controller

I "lost" the VGA Video Controller for my HP DC5800 small factor computer. Tried the download sites, but nothing works. Please advise if anyone has a site where I can download this. Thanks

    Hi:
Below is the link to the support and driver page for your PC.
You will have to know if you have the onboard Intel graphics or one of the optional graphics cards in order to install the correct graphics driver as well as the operating system you are using.
If you are running windows 7 and have the onboard Intel graphics, manually install the Windows Vista driver.

  • Qosmio F10-136 display drivers/video controller

I am in the middle of resintalling everything on my Qosmio F10-136 laptop. I have used the display drivers from the Toshiba website. However, in the device manager the video controller is showing an error and the drivers are not installed. The graphics card is a nVidia GeForce FX go5700. Scrolling pages up and down in IE is very slow.
Also when I go to display properties settings-advanced-adapter the graphics card is not shown under adapter type.
Anyone know what the problem is? Do I need to download drivers from somewhere esle?
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi
The graphic driver released on the Toshiba European driver page is working and can be installed properly.
I think you did something wrong.
Try to reinstall the graphic driver again.
Remove the graphic controller from the device manager list and reboot the notebook.
Then try to reinstall the driver again. I would recommend installing it in device manger.
Choose graphic card, update the driver, then point to the downloaded graphic driver and finish the installation.
    Cheers

  • Satellite A115-s3094: Need video controller XP driver

    Hi
    Can anyone help?
I was on my laptop and my son accidently deleted a graphics driver or a video controller, and I can't get it back as I don't have a CD with the drivers on it or even a back-up. The thing is I could use the laptop but once I shut it down the only thing I get now is the theme background picture but all my folders have gone and nothing else comes up.
I believe I have tried everything but I cant get anywhere with it, my laptop is a Toshiba 115-s3094 it's using Windows XP media.
Model no.psmb0u... if anyone can help I would really appreciate it or even let me know where and what driver to download as I can use my mates comp...
    Cheers.

Yes, kody is right. The Satellite A115-s3094 seems to be definitely a US notebooks series and the link posted by kody should point you to the right graphic driver.
After an download you have to unzip the driver package.
Then access the device manager, choose the graphic card and reinstall the graphic driver.
    Bye

  • Video controller updating issue

I Have mobile intel(R) 915GM/GMS 910 GML Express Chipset Family in windows XP SP3.Recently I upgraded the OS to windows 8.1Pro.But the video controller is not support this. What can I do?

    Hi
please also check you motherboard specification whether you can upgrade your chipset or add external graphic card driver which supported with Windows 8.1, you can ask your PC manufactured or Mainboard manufactured for this advance information.
This information maybe can give you some basic idea which processor should you have, regarding graphic card you can "bing" it which graphic card supported by your mainboard and Windows 8.1

  • Video Controller update (VGA Compatible) on Tecra 9000

Recently, I bought a used Toshiba Tecra 9000.
The computer has WIN XP SP2, and I would like to know how I can update (Video Controller/VGA Compatible).
    Thanks for your help

    Hello Isabelita
Sorry but I didnt understood your posting well. You wrote about some problem but according your description you just want to update display driver. Am I right or maybe I have misunderstood something? I dont see any problem there.
Tecra 9000 has S3 SuperSavage/IXC video card and right driver you can find on Toshiba download page. Install it and graphic card will run properly.
If you think I have misunderstood your posting please explain exactly what the graphic card status in device manager is and what you want to do exactly.

  • Problems installing Video Controller on M40X-233

I have a Toshiba Satellite M40X-233 and have the following problem: After buying it, I went to this site to get the most recent drivers for my laptop. Everything installed ok except the Video Controller. After installing this one (Intel controller), it requested that I'd reboot the machine and after, it could not login, saying there was not enough resources to load the login profile. I could only correct the problem by loading in Safe Mode and unistalling the #$%& driver. After that, I tried to install the old drivers that came with the laptop, but the behaviour is the same... So now I uninstalled it and do not have any video controller, which is really bad, but hey, at least I can work... does anybody have the same problem? How to correct it?
    regards,
    Carlos

    Hi
Firstly what I want to know is why you updated all your drivers after buying a new notebook? In my opinion the new notebook should works properly and it should be not necessary to update anything.
Secondly, the graphic card you can check in the device manager.
That should you know. But I have also checked this informations about this unit a this notebook has a Mobile Intel 915GM Express Chipset AlvisoGM graphic card. In this case you need a Intel graphic drivers.
On this website you will find a necessary driver.

  • Qosmio F20-136 multimedia video controller not working

In control panel hardware- multi media video controller has the yellow question mark. Also in MCE i get a message saying TV tuner hardware or drivers not working.
I have reinstalled from the recovery disks and installed all updates to MCE 2005 including net.1.1 sp1 and rollup. In control panel hardware there is no entry for TV tuner.
In tools the tv tuner driver is shown as installed.
Any advice would be welcome.\ This is a new machine just purchased so it may be a hardware problem

    Hi
As far as I know you will not find any tuner entries in the control panel.
In the control panel you can find the graphic card option like nView desktop manager of nVidia Geforce.
The TV tuner driver is important to receive the signals in MCE
However, if the yellow exclamation mark appears in the device manager so I assume the driver fails or is wrong. You should try updating it. Please note that on the driver page you will find driver for WinXP and for WinXP MCE.

  • K7N2 MS6570 Video Controller- driver not found

    Hello All,
After a clean install of W2K all of a sudden the Video Card and my Intel V.92 Modem weren't being detected.  I got the modem to install by going into device manager and deleting the yellow question mark for PCI Simple  Communications Controller but no matter what I have tried I still get a yellow question mark for Video Controller (VGA Compatible) in device manager.  The driver can't be found on the Mobo Disk, in W2K sp4, Video card driver disk.  All say not found or no such driver.  Also the video card is showing up on POST but after that, nothing, no where is it being detected.
I have taken out and reseated the video card, cleared the CMOS, been into BIOS to check that ESCD was set to Auto, booted into Safe Mode and tried to get it detected from there, nothing has worked.  Specs for the system are:
    AMD Barton 2800+
    512 MB DDR 333 PC 2700 RAM
PNY Gforce FX 5200 128 MB
    CDR/RW
    Lite On DVD ROM
    K7N2 MS6570 Mobo
    W2K SP4
    500 watt PSU
The reason I say I think something has really gone wrong is that prior to the reinstall of W2K everything was working just fine, better than I ever expected it to work.  No hardware was put in or taken out, the system wasn't even opened up for anything, just a clean reinstall of W2K.  If anyone has any suggestions at all I would really appreciate it, I'm about at my wits end here.
    Thanks very much,  LG;)

    Hi,
Have you DirectX installed? - If not download and install it. Also, have you tried installing latest video card drivers - from either your Video card manufacturer or nVidia's website?
Sometimes it's better to run the driver's auto-install program, rather than allowing Windows to look for the driver itself - AFAIK, the install procedure unpacks all it's files to hard drive then accesses this directory in order to install the drivers (this is the case with ATI software, anyway.) I suspect your drivers on CD are packed - this is why Windows can't find them.

Might be hard to find, but long ago there were a couple of Firewire<->SCSI adapters, if you have USB2 those might be available also...
