Ok ! So our 500 gig LaCie crashed, OSX Will not recognize it, it does not show up on the desktop.
I ran diskwarrior 3 and a message popped up when I tried to "rebuild" that said: "the directory of the disk "unknown disk" cannot be rebuilt. The original directory is too severely damaged"
What can we do to save our video files?
ANY help much appreciated !!!

I'd second what bogie said. Last year we had a drive that totally folded on us. Most of the stuff was backed up but, unfortunately, one large project was all by itself.
I looked into data recovery. Cheapest price I got was 800 bucks (Cdn) and they couldn't guarantee everything and thought it may take a week
We had our tapes and our project files so I just rebuilt the thing ... took me about four hours. Cost me nothing. Project got delivered (mostly) on time and still eked out a profit

Data file recovery from Windows 7

A Macbook that was running OS X with data files and pictures was taken by someone without their permission.
That person then wiped the hard drive and installed Windows 7.
The Laptop has since been returned to the original owner and to her dismay realizes all her files have been deleted.
Is there any chance of recovering any of her previous OS X data files and pictures before she reinstalls OS X.

Kappy and Limnos are both correct, depending on what was done to the hard drive.
It's most likely that the person who put Windows 7 on the Mac did a quick erase, which would leave all but the first few cylinders of data on the drive untouched.
After changing the partition scheme to NTFS and and installing Win 7, then the data that will be difficult to impossible to recover will be those areas that were written over with the Windows OS files, the swap file it creates, and any other areas of the drive that were written over during that person's use of the Mac.
The first thing you will need to do before you can use either FileSalvage or Data Rescue 3, is boot to the disks the Mac came with, run Disk Utility from the DVD and change the partition back to Mac OS Extended. Neither of these recovery programs will read anything but a Mac drive. As in changing the drive to NTFS, you would only be overwriting the first few cylinders of the drive to do this. Just make sure not to install OS X. Only use the DVD to get the drive back to Mac OS Extended.
Since the drive will have no bootable system on it at this point, you will need to purchase one recovery program or the other on a bootable CD/DVD. The only other option is a bootable external drive so you can try the demo versions before purchasing. The external drive will also need to have enough free space to recover files to.
Now run either recovery program. As mentioned a few times now, getting any data back that was sitting on the areas overwritten with Win 7 are slim to none. But any data on the drive that was never written to during that time can be. What you recover all depends on what was sitting where.

Convert video DAT file so I can burn it to a DVD?

I have a CD with a .DAT video file on it. What Apple applications are available for m to convert that .DAT file to something I can burn on a DVD? Freeware, Shareware, purchase suggestions?

After data file recovery, files are red and won't open

My HD crashed so I used Data Rescue 3 to recover my files. It worked but now all the files are highlighted red and won't open. The file sizes look right but for instance when I try to open a mov file it says, this is not a movie file. My FCP projects won't open either. Does anybody know what the problem is and what I need to do to get the files usable again?

Data recovery can be hit and miss. Data Rescue is unlikely to be able to recover every single byte from every single file. If so much as a single byte is out of place, QuickTime will be unable to read the file.
I would suggest you give QT Repair a try and if that doesn't work, try File Salvage:

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
Assuming a Managed Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
1. Quit iPhoto
2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

ORA-01124: cannot recover data file 1 - file is in use or recovery

I am trying to recover standby database, but it is giving the below error.
ORA-00283: recovery session canceled due to errors
ORA-01124: cannot recover data file 1 - file is in use or recovery, recovery is already stated
ORA-01110: data file 1: 'I:\ORACLE\QAS\SAPDATA1\SYSTEM_1\SYSTEM.DATA1'
when i checked in the alert log the recovery is not started. and later i hae given "alter database recover cancel' and the command end up with the below line
"media recovery not started".
it seems that the recovery has stuck in between.
please advise me how to kill the recovery session that's stuck. because i dont want to bounce the standby database.

Without dataguard and MRP, you are running a scripted standby.
In a scripted standby, a RECOVER DATABASE session would have an UNTIL clause (most likely UNTIL SEQUENCE). At the end of the recovery to that point (SEQUENCE#), it exits and shuts down the database.
Also, the scripting is such that when one RECOVER session is active, another session is not allowed to start. It may loop in wait state or exit and retry at the next scheduled interval.
Apparently your standby scripting is not robust enough to prevent another RECOVER session from starting off even as the first is active (and/or it doesn't have a proper UNTIL clause and stop, exit, shutdown actions)
What you have is a custom implementation of a standby database. Without complete details of the script, the "locking" between sessions (to prevent a second RECOVER from starting when one is already running) etc .... we really cannot do much to help you.
Your scripts should be maintaing status information . It should be possible for you to discover the "other" sqlplus session that has issued a RECOVER DATABASE but not yet exited (e.g. ... how about a simple "ps -ef |grep sql" and "ps -ef | grep ora" combination ??)

How do I save my video project as a data file?

I am preparing a video project on a deadline and they have requested I send it to them in a data file format. I don't see where I can save it that way. Help!

If you transfer the computer hard drive saved project file to a USB flash drive or to burned to disc as data disc with 3rd party software, the project file will be of little use without its source media and Premiere Elements version that supports it. If your associates are asking for a project file, then consider archiving the project, using Premiere Elements Editor with File Menu/Project Archiver and the Copy Project option. That will save copy of project file plus copies of source media in a Copied Folder to the computer hard drive. This Folder can then be transferred to a USB Flash Drive. The recipient still needs Premiere Elements to open the copy of the project file from the Copied Folder on the USB Flash Drive inserted into the recipient's computer. If a Movie Menu is included with the project, then the following needs to be considered

Is the request for project as data file related to your associates wanting
a. to edit the project
or
b. see what the project looks like in its most current version?
If "b", you might want to think about exporting the Timeline to a AVCHD.mp4 files and saving it as .mp4 data to the computer hard drive or USB Flash Drive. Premiere Elements does not support menus for Timeline content saved to file.

How to use JMF to play the video data in a array(not in a local file)?

dear all:
I am a newer to JMF.
Now My program has a thread which is always inputing mpg video data into a static array, so I want to wrap this array as a DataSource, then let the player play the video.
But I don't know how to wrap that as a DataSource, What I know is just play a media file.
So could any guy give me some advice??

I have never tried doing what you are soing so I am just thinking aloud. I think that using datamerge for this is going to assign the same ID to the fields, which is why the checkboxes are filling when selecting one of them. Open the PDF in Acrobat to check it though.
Another thought. Are you merging to a new document or direct to PDF? If going direct to PDF, try creating the merge document first. If that doesn't work, I think it will be the field IDs being also replicated. If so, then the only course of action would be either manually changing them in Acrobat, or an ID script and or an Acrobat script. Neither of which I have heard of. But if they do have the same IDs, then I would inquire in both the ID scripting forum and the Acrobat forum.

My videos won't play on my PC because they copied over as dat files. Help!

I followed the steps on how to copy my 5G nano videos over to my PC. They copied over, however, I cannot play them in Media Plaver because the file copied over as a dat file. And when I play them on Quick Time, there's a lag between voice and video. Any suggestions????

Can i exclude data file from recovery

i am on 8.1.7.4
i had a test offline datafile which causes problem when i restore recover my db
i restored my db
recover it , but i am missing an archivelog , which prevent me from recovery of the whole of my db
i can't open resetlogs;
can i exclude this datafile from recovery , or deleted completely
i tried alter database datafile 81 offline;
but still the db feels it needs to rcover it

Hello shail11. I understand that you're having some problems creating a recovery disc. Is this correct?
You can not use another .dat file. The recovery media is specific to a certain notebook, so using another computer's files will not work. If you're running into issues making a recovery media you could attempt to perform the recovery from the BIOS. Here is a document which outlines the process. ALL data not backed up before performing the recovery will be lost.

Black embedded FLV files Video data lost

I am building a number of animations within 8 different
scenes, which will ultimately compile into an exe file.
The major problem I am having is with the numerous FLV files
that are embedded into the timeline. No audio is going to be used.
I created the FLVs in After Effects 7 from PNG sequences. RANDOMLY
when i am working on the animations and keep saving (by
incrementing file versions), the FLVs go black and in the
properties panel it says 0.0Kb of video data. What is going on???
If the exe is exported and played, I get a crash - macromedia flash
player 8.0 r22 has encountered a problem and needs to close. The
only way to fix it, is to keep reimporting the flvs.
Please help Adobe and community. Thankyou in advance for your

What happens if he makes you an intermediate file in something other than h.264?
For the record, that's not an ideal choice for an intermediate codec. Is there a reason you can't use the native .r3d file?

Visit MacUpdate or CNET Downloads and search for browsers. However, I doubt you will find any contemporary browsers that work with Panther.
Have you considered upgrading your OS, if possible, or getting a newer computer?

Saving iPod 5th gen video files -- keep DAT files?

When transferring video shot with my iPod to my Macbook, each one shows up as an IMG_1234.mp4 with a corresponding IMG_1234.DAT file that is always 319 KB, regardless of the size of the mpeg file.
What are these files; what purpose do they serve?
Do I need to save them along with the MPEG video?

They may bey files that are generated alongside the video to hold certain information about the video, but are no longer needed once the video recording has been completed. Could be any number of things though. The important thing here is that they do not need to be copied over.
