Video Ram Error

Hi All,
Wondered if anyone could advise me?
I have PowerMac G5, 2x 2Ghz, 2.5GB DDR SDRAM.
I've upgraded to 4.1.9 and keep software up to date.
All ran perfectly, until out of the blue, my screen started displaying artifacts. Example:
ftp://tonyg3d:[email protected]:21//tonygold3d.com/public/Picture.png
(Copy link into browser)
Photoshop seems uneffected, but 3d software runs, but is distored as example.
I ran disk warrior (repaired and fine) I then ran, the Apple Hardware Test from my install disk. I got an error message from the Video Ram; 2 ATI/I/4: 113-A14401-117
Is there a way to fix this or do i need a new Video Card?
If so, i was looking at ATI Radeon X1900 XT Graphics Upgrade kit. Is this compatible with my machine?
Thanks in advance,
Tony.

Hi
If the graphics card has a fan attached, it may be worth checking that it isn't sticking or clogged with dust etc, just incase they're heat related artifacts. Failing that though, assuming it is a geninue hardware problem with the VRAM, I think the only option is to replace the graphics card.
Compatible cards depend on whether you have a dual processor 2GHz G5 or a dual core 2GHz G5. The former (dual processor) has an 8x AGP graphics card slot, making the Radeon X800 XT the only real choice. The latter (dual core) has a PCI Express graphics card slot, making the Radeon X1900 the only real choice. You can tell them apart by the number of ethernet ports on the back - the dual processor models have one ethernet port, the dual core models have two.
Unfortunately Mac compatible graphics cards seem to be in short supply at the moment, seemingly because they're being redesigned to conform to the RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) directive.

  • Symptom: iBook typing by itself. Diagnosis: Video Ram Error

My ibook types by itself sometimes.
If I run the Apple Hardware Test when the computer is fine then the computer will pass the Apple Hardware Test.
But, if I run the Apple Hardware Test when the computer is malfunctioning then the computer will fail the Apple Hardware Test.
    Here is the error message:
    Video RAM Error detected
    **ERROR*CODE***ERROR*CODE**
    2ATI/2/4: 113-xxxxx- 1 42
    **ERROR*CODE***ERROR*CODE**
Is there any genius out there who has a solution?
I already took my computer to an authorised Apple Service Centre, they told me that I should replace the logic board.
I live in a developing country. A new logic board is too expensive for me.
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

I'm guessing you actually have two problems. A video RAM problem and a keyboard problem. I can't believe a video RAM problem would reveal itself by typing. The keyboard can be replaced easily, it's a user-replaceable part. I might try to get that replaced first. It shouldn't be too expensive. However, this will not fix the video RAM problem you've detected. You will need to replace the logic board to get that fixed.

  • AHT Video Ram Error

I have been having a string of kernel panics and AHT v1.2 detected a video RAM error "disp/13/2". In a previous post, it was suggested that this message meant that many things were fried and that a new computer was the best option. Has anyone successfully repared this problem, and how do you do it?

Unfortunately, AHT's very cryptic messages are intended to benefit Apple technicians, not ordinary civilians. That said, any message about a video or display problem is bad news, because it probably means replacing either the logic board or the display, and each is very expensive.

  • Video RAM Error code disp/13/2

    Hello again
Does anyone knows what this means? And if so, how can I fix it?
My display has been going funny for the past two weeks now and keeps crashing. After I did a hardware test, this came up next to the video RAM:
    Error code disp/13/2
Now I have no idea what to do next?
    I'm desperate, please help.
    Carly

That means that you need to take it into an Appple Authorized Service Provider. It is not user servicable.

  • Video RAM Error Detected

I've been having major problems with my PowerBook G4 (12", 1.33 Ghz, 1.25 GB RAM, 60 GB HB, Tiger). I just ran the Apple hardware test again. It said that there is a Video RAM Error Detected. Here's the Error Code - 2NYD/1/4: 2086
Does that make any sense to anyone?
    Thanks!

It means you need to take your machine in to service if it doesn't fall under these programs:
    http://www.apple.com/support/exchange_repair/powerbook.html
If the cost is too high, one of these companies may fix it cheaper:
    http://www.dttservice.com/
    http://www.powerbookresq.com/
    http://www.microdocusa.com/
    http://www.macspecialist.com/

Or if you can find the part and are technically minded, http://www.ifixit.com and http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ have numerous logicboard replacement instructions.

  • Video Ram error detected: 2NVD/1/4:0x6" -?

    Dear Apple users,
Apple Hardware Test confirmed that I have the following error under Video Ram:
    Video RAM Error Detected
    Error Code 2NVD/1/4:0x6
Does anyone know what this mean? Do I just get a new video card? Or is this error related to the logic board and needs a major replacement of the motherboard?
Thank you for any advice beforehand.

    Hi-
The error is referring to your graphics card VRAM, not a problem with your logic board.
Do I just get a new video card?
    I would say Yes.

  • Video Ram Error Detected Question

Had my screen lock up and when I ran Apple Hardware Test I received a VIDEO RAM ERROR DETECTED - Error code 2NYD/1/4:2122
Scrolling is all messed up, tried reinstalling system software but nothing seems to help. Only starts after quite a few tries.
Do I need to take in for service or is there a software fix?

    Welcome to the discussions Eugene.
If I were you, I'd take it in for service. It sounds like a hardware problem that a software update won't fix.
I hope it works out for you.

  • Hardware Test: Video Ram "error code 2NVD/1/4:119" G5 2.7 NVIDIA 6800 Ultra

Wondering if anyone has experienced this . . .
My G5 started displaying rows of chevron shaped artifacts a few weeks after upgrading to Leopard, Bought a used replacent card and it seemed to fix the problem for a couple of weeks then too started displaying the artifacts, ran the Hardware Test on both cards and both had Video Ram error code 2NVD/1/4:2119
I'am reluctant to buy yet another card untill I'am sure its not a Leopard Issue. any ideas?

I need to do more troubleshooting of my problem before I trying to reflash I think . . .
    the other day I had a friend install both my original card and the newly purchased "used" card in his G5 and he also got the error codes on both of them. Brought them home installed the replacement card reset the SMU and PRAM as I've done many times before and got the G5 up and running (after several reboots) no artifacts seemed to run perfectly for a couple of hours anyway when I tried restarting and then the problems returned, gets to the grey screen with the rows of artifacts then stops, screen goes black then the fans start slowly spooling up to max RPM (most likley from a kernel panic) logs show;
    "Apparent UniNorth Hang: AGP Status"

  • Video Ram Error Code

I ran Hardware Test and got an error for Video Ram. 2ATI/1/4 113xxxxx117
Can I replace the Video Ram myself? If not, how much does a repair like that cost? RAM is guaranteed for life, right? So how about Video Ram?
I am getting lines around icons and the cursor. It is imposible to watch any videos in iTunes or FrontRow without enormous graphic interference. Like a really bad connection on your TV.
    Thanks.

The video RAM is part of the motherboard. It is not something that you can replace yourself. Unfortunately it means that you need a new motherboard.
FYI, you should ask future questions in the iMac G5 discussion area since you have an iMac G5.

  • Error detected in Video RAM

My iMac G5 won't boot. I get the Apple icon and a gray screen that turns to blue, but then stops there and gives me a loud fan noise. I used the installation disk to do a hardware test and an error was detected in the Video RAM. The error code is:
    2ATI / 1 / 4:113 - xxxxx - 113
I don't remember if it was eligible for the repair extension program for video and power, but I just checked and the program is closed anyway.
Do I just take it in to the repair shop? Please advise!

    Welcome to Discussions JoAnn.
Do I just take it in to the repair shop? Please advise!
I'm afraid so. The Video RAM is on the logic board, and that could be an expensive repair.

  • Error message AHT 1.2.3: Error code disp/13/2 in video ram test section

    Hello to the forum,
i have garbage on the screen on my Titanium DVI 867MHZ, so i run AHT in extended session and on video test section the first test with green-red stripes on screen runs but then the message Error code disp/13/2 appears. Does that mean the display has a problem or the video-ram is faulty or the grafic chip?
    Greetings iMacG5-User

  • TechTools Deluxe (Re: Video RAM and reinstall)

I have the annoying screen inverter/logic board whine (yes I know this has been talked to death here), sometimes not so bad and sometimes I can hear it over a desktop PC is the bearing going out in one of the fans. I happen to be visiting family in a city with an Apple Store this weekend, so I thought I would talk to a real person face to face. Anyways, I ran the TechTools Deluxe CD that I received a week of so after I got my MacBook Pro. To see if there was anything else besides, my whine to mention to them and will you look what came up
    Video RAM
    Failed
Video RAM, as all components of your video circuitry, must be fully functional for graphics to be properly displayed. Damaged VRAM can cause missing bits, screen noise, system lock ups, or freezes. TechTool Deluxe tests the VRAM on the Macintosh main logic board, as well as some third-party video cards.
If the VRAM test should fail, try these steps in order and run the test again after each step:
    o Quit all other applications.
    o Restart the system.
o Check any recently-added hardware for proper installation.
o Run the computer from another volume (if available).
    o Reinstall the OS.
    o Contact AppleCare.
I have done everything except reinstall the OS and contact AppleCare.
Anyways I wanted to know first of all if anyone else had gotten this error and if so did a reinstall fix it? Secondly how hard is the reinstall, I come from years and years of DOS, 3.1, 95, 98, Me, and XP, and one thing all of them have tought me, is reinstalls are horrible, drivers don't work again, ect. So is OSX easy or should I just ask them to look at it this weekend?
Oh and the Apple Diagnostic on the OSX cd 1 says everything is fine.

Well the apple test (on disk 1 of OSX) states that nothing is wrong. Though I will test again when the temp gets high since some people had been detecting problems.
as for 10.4.6 I downloaded it the other day.
I repaired the permissions had a couple things that it corrected (I don't know if I posting them would do any good) Out of curiousity how to permissions get incorrect? I'm so used to the windows file structure and DOS before that that i am a little confused. The last apple used alot before this macbook was an old Applee IIE.
and the TechTools still says there is an error, every time I have run the test. Though there have been some differences when I reboot or turn of and wait a second and then restart.

  • Boot problem, RAM error but RAM fine, help!

I've been having trouble booting for some time now.
At first I didn't get any response when I pressed the power button (black screen, no chime). The force restart <ctrl, apple, power> would get it going after a few tries but unreliable and it could go for weeks without a successful boot. Now I can hardly boot and get a RAM error (4 beeps) at the startup, more frequently now.
It won't boot from an external firewire drive or installation CD.
    Tried the following;
Disk repair, when I eventually got it to boot on CD after many attempts said everything was fine.
Everything was fine on the hardware check.
    Changed the RAM, twice!
Tried this ribbon cable insulating thing I found on another thread, it booted up straight away and then not again for ages. Probably just a coincidence.
    Reset PRAM, PMU etc.
Paid a service place €50 to tell me what I knew and that it's probably the logic board, €800 odd to replace... no thank you.
It works perfectly when it's up and running. I did get the odd crash when waking from sleep.
    So my choices are, now that I've booted it again after a few weeks of attempts;
    1. Leave it on indefinitely as a desk top, don't sleep and don't install anything requiring restart, like Quicktime so I can't see iTunes videos.
    2. Start saving!
    3. Be saved by some genius out there...?

Have you tried isolating which RAM slot may be at fault. If the RAM has been changed and the problem is intermittent it could be a loose connection between the RAM holder and logic board.Actually 4 beeps isn't a RAM error but rather a ROM error. This would point towards a new logic board being required ££££. You could take a risk on ebay. There's plenty of Ti owners who smashed displays or broken hinges who break their Powerbooks up to sell in parts on ebay.

  • Video Rendering error 3 Compressor crash

         Hello all,
brand new on the forum here and have a problem i can't seem to figure out. trying to export a 35 min docu dram off my computer 2.2 i7 macbook pro 8 gig ddr ram os x 10.9.1. I  shot the footage on cannon 5d mark ii, all video is rendered and and color graded. whenever i try to export out of fcp it" unexpectedly quits" regardless of codec chosen. so i send to compresor and then run into video rendering error 3. if anyone knows what this means or has a work around or anything that can help it would be hugely helpful. i am four days away from a deadline on a two year project and cant get fcp or compressor to get the finished thing out.
    help?
    please?
    help.

Had the same problem, here is what you could do, highlight the project in timeline
To prepare to send, then go to "file" share master file' once share is completed should
    Automatically be a mov. File,
Select destination on your computer, Send.
Find movie in your destination folder then either burn, convert as needed.
This worked for myself. I tried everything before and was also getting error 3.
Give it a try. Good luck.    Mark.

  • Computer is keeping reporting that my Ti4600 has 16MB of Video Ram!

I don't know since when, but my computer is reporting that my Ti4600 has 16MB of video ram.
Is there anyway to fix it?
I've already tried reinstalling drivers and reinserting the Video Card.
    I use windows XP professional.
    thanks.
ps: i also found that my MSI update program doesn't work. Is there anyway to update bios?

    rbleader,
The error is just in the amount of RAM it says you have. Performance is not affected by it.
If you like you can completely uninstall all the video drivers and install the latest drivers either from MSI or nVidia and it will solve your problem.
    Take Care,
    Richard
