View *all* databases in oracle 8i
Hello all,
Is there a statement/command which i can type to view ALL the databases in the oracle8i database. I am having a certain problem with an application which is using the database, only i am not aware which database it is using!! I do have dba priviledges..
Thanks in advance
You cannot do this from SQL*Plus. SQL*Plus connects to a single database. From there you can see any other database your database has a link to. You can see which databases those are by querying DBA_DB_LINKS. That is not necessarily the same thing as all "the databases in the system". If all your databases are linked to the database you're connecting to, then you can monitor them through SQL*Plus - you just have to suffix everything in the FROM clause with @db_name.db_link. Which is a lot of hard work: OEM does make this sort of thing very easy.

So when you created database manually it is not going to edit oratab file. -

Ensure that all database components/objects provided by Oracle are VALID
Hi Guys
need some clarification concern the below point from -> 1503653.1
Ensure that all database components/objects provided by Oracle are VALID in the source database prior to starting the upgrade.
Ensure that you do not have duplicate objects in the SYS and SYSTEM schema.
Question 1:
what do you really mean by all the database components/ objects provided by oracle are Valid?
does the below object consider an Oracle object? I got to know this objects is invalid after after running -> dbupgdiag.sql
SQLTXADMIN SYNONYM 1
Question 2:
if my user application objects is invalid? Can i still be able to forward with the upgrade?
It seem that the main concern is those ORACLE's component/ objects have to be VALID.hi all,
want to add on.
does ORACLE's component means objects own by SYS and SYSTEM?
like the below objects that is spool out by the script -> dbupgdiag.sql
that it is in invalid status.

How to view all tables and column names from a remote database
Hey Guys,
I have a database in a remote server. I have the db link and the schema name.. Now i want to view all the tables in the remote database with column names.. 00942. 00000 - "table or view does not exist"You don't have to have 'dba' access, per se. You just have to have SELECT ALL TABLES privilege. when you use a db_link, you are connecting to the remote db with the user defined in the link, and .. on that db .. you will have the privileges of the user defined in the db link. Exactly as if you had used sqlplus to connect to that db with that user. -

PaulWhen you figure out how to capture that data, please let me know what storage vendor you will be using to store the information. I'd like to buy stock in it.
Seriously, whenever anyone indicates that they want the full history of everything that ever happened, I've got to wonder just how they envision using such massive amounts of raw data. -

ORACLE DATABASE SPACE USAGE report not showing all databases in 11g
Hi All,
I have scheduled "Oracle Database Space Usage (Group)" report for all databases available in the OEM11g. But in the report i am not able to see all the databases in the group. Can any one please help on this.
Regards,
GKWe had the same problem in 12c EM. This had to something with "tablespace allocation metric". This metric was disabled for some databases. This could be your case in 11g also. This metalink note might worth seeing .

Migrate peoplesoft sybase HRMS database to oracle 11g
Hi All,
I want to know if I can migrate a sybase peoplesoft HRMS database to oracle 11g using sql developer 3.0. I am trying to do this following the steps given in the link below but it is taking for ever for the convert step, I could see the messae saying building converted model.
http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/db/sqldev/r30/SybaseMigration/SybaseMigration.htm
The sybase database is 55GB and the version is 12. There are around 20,000 tables in Sybase Database.
Please advise, if this is possible with SQL Developer??
If yes, how long this process might take(for each step in the above link), based on any past convertions of the same size database??
If this is not feasable with SQL Developer because of the complexity of the database, are there any other tools we can look into which might be faster/better than SQL Developer.
Please advise.
Thanks..Hi Dermot, Tanks for the reply.

"Is there a chance the convert phase has hung, or does it refresh ever so ofter with details of another object being "migrated"?"
It is not hung. I can see the message 'Translating views' right now, and the View names change often but not fast roughly every minute. When I checked for what the session is doing, I could see the below two sql statements.
SELECT PROP_KEY, VALUE, PROPERTY_ORDER, CONNECTION_ID_FK
FROM MD_ADDITIONAL_PROPERTIES
WHERE REF_ID_FK = :1
ORDER BY PROPERTY_ORDER;
SELECT ID
FROM MD_TABLES -- Some times this is MD_VIEWS
WHERE SCHEMA_ID_FK = :1 AND UPPER (TABLE_NAME) = UPPER (:2)

Translating View xxx.
"Does the tablespaces your migration repository schema is based on have sufficient space?"
Yes, Since there is no data at this point, it is all done in one table space which is set to grow UNLIMITED. At this point the size of the table space is a little over 500M.
"Is SQL Developer being run on the same machine as the Oracle database containing the migration repository? (conversion can be alot quicker for procedure, view, trigger conversion if SQL Developer is on the same machine as the repository)"
NO. SQL developer is running on my machine but the migration repositary is in the database which is on HP-UX box. Below are some of the details of the server. Also, since the database in on HP-UX, I couldn't find SQL developer for UNIX. I also read in the release note of 3.0 that it is not supported with UNIX, Is that right? else is there a way I can install SQL developer on the Unix server and that might improve the performance!, if yes, please guide me with the steps to do this installation.

How to view all procedures from commandprompt
Hai All,
we have query select * from tab; in oracle
to view all tabels in database.Like this how can we view all proceduresThe oracle specific response:
In oracle, select * from tab is actually only included for backwards compatibility (With Oracle 5)
It is better to use the view USER_TABLES
ie select * from user_tables
For stored procedures:
select * from user_procedures
More applicable to the Java world, and also database independant, check out the class java.sql.DatabaseMetaData
It has methods
getTables() and getProcedures() that should give you much the same info, just directly in java.

Quick Migrate: SQL Server database to Oracle

MurrayMurray,
Apologies for referring to the 1.5 documentation but the 2.1 documentation still has the same information about creating a user to hold the repository.
You initially reported 2 problems -
1. Locating source plugin...failed
2. Checking multi-schema privileges...Privilege 'CREATE ROLE" is not granted with admin option.
For the first error have you installed the necessary JDBC driver ? I have just installed SQL*Developer 2.1 on a new laptop and could successfully connect following the documentation steps -
Oracle® SQL Developer
User’s Guide
Release 2.1
2.5.2 Before Migrating From Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server
To configure a Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server database for
migration:
1. Ensure that the source database is accessible by the Microsoft SQL Server or
Sybase Adaptive Server user that is used by SQL Developer for the source
connection. This user must be able to see any objects to be captured in the
Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive Server database; objects that the user
cannot see are not captured. For example, if the user can execute a stored
procedure but does not have sufficient privileges to see the source code, the stored
procedure cannot be captured.
2. Ensure that you can connect to the Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase Adaptive
Server database from the system where you have installed SQL Developer.
3. Ensure that you have downloaded the JTDS JDBC driver from
http://jtds.sourceforge.net/.
4. In SQL Developer, if you have not already installed the JTDS driver using Check
for Updates (on the Help menu), do the following:
a. Click Tools, then Preferences, then Database, then Third Party JDBC Drivers.
b. Click Add Entry.
c. Select the jar file for the JTDS driver you downloaded from
http://jtds.sourceforge.net/.
d. Click OK.
========
The second error is again documented in the 2.1 documentation -
5.99 Privilege Warning for Migration
This dialog box is displayed if you click Verify in the Quick Migrate box and the
database user for the connection does not have all privileges necessary for a
multischema migration. For multischema migrations, this user must granted the
RESOURCE role with the ADMIN option; and this user must also be granted the
CREATE ROLE, CREATE USER, and ALTER ANY TRIGGER privileges, all with the
ADMIN option.
If you are performing a single-schema migration, you can ignore this warning.
=====
Which errors are you now seeing and which user was used to hold the repository ?
If you are using GRAINTEST for the repository then create it using this syntax -
CREATE USER GRAINTEST IDENTIFIED BY password <=== change password as necessary
DEFAULT TABLESPACE users TEMPORARY TABLESPACE temp; <=== change tablespaces as necessary
GRANT CONNECT, RESOURCE, CREATE VIEW, CREATE PUBLIC SYNONYM TO
GRAINTEST WITH ADMIN OPTION;
GRANT ALTER ANY ROLE, ALTER ANY SEQUENCE, ALTER ANY TABLE, ALTER TABLESPACE,
ALTER ANY TRIGGER, COMMENT ANY TABLE, CREATE ANY SEQUENCE, CREATE ANY TABLE,
CREATE ANY TRIGGER, CREATE ROLE, CREATE TABLESPACE, CREATE USER, DROP ANY
SEQUENCE, DROP ANY TABLE, DROP ANY TRIGGER, DROP TABLESPACE, DROP USER, DROP ANY
ROLE, GRANT ANY ROLE, INSERT ANY TABLE, SELECT ANY TABLE, UPDATE ANY TABLE TO
GRAINTEST with admin option ;
then when making the migration make sure the Oracle connection is to this user.
Please update the thread with the errors you get after following these steps.
Regards,
Mike
