View CAD Files in Forms?

I am trying view AutoCAD files in Oracle Web Forms. Until now, we have been using an ActiveX component in a client-server environment where all the clients are on Windows. We now have a need to move over to thin-client architecture and hence need to find a solution where I can view AutoCAD drawings through a web browser. The Oracle 8i database runs on a Solaris server and we are currently using Forms 6i.
Has anyone had any experience or know of any technologies which allows for CAD drawings to be viewed (either embedded in forms or in a new browser window) regardless of what platform the client is on? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thank You.
Jay Kurji.

ActiveX would not be working on the Web Forms in an embedded way. That's bad news. What you can do is use the AciveX and open the CAD file in a separate browser window by using web.show_document.
If for you the client side platform idependence means LINUX or any other OS that has a browser, then I think you will have problems unless you can transform the Auto CAD file to simple image files. But then you loose the intelgine maps you will only have dumb GIFs.

  • Need to open CAD files - SAP Visual Enterprise Generator

    Hi Experts,
    We have got a requirement where they should be able to open CAD files in SAP (i.e SAP ECC6.0 EHP6).
    Can this is acheived with SAP Visual Enterprise Generator ?
    If yes, kindly suggest if it comes as an ABAP Add-on that can be deployed or a Business Function which can be activated to enable this functionality ?
    Many Thanks in Advance !!!

    Hi Fergal,
    Thanks for the quick response..
    As per the Installation Guide we understand that SAP VEG is another standalone component that has to be installed(correct me if am wrong) in another WIN machine. But we are actually looking out for something like the below where in one of our IDES system we are able to view CAD files stored in DMS in a SAP Transaction (cv04n):
    In SPRO we could see some options for VEG in our IDES system.
    We need the same in our actual project ECC system
    The above can be achieved only after SAP VEG 7.1 installation only ? Or is it something which is already a part of ECC6.0 EHP6 that needs to be activated?
    Thanks !!!

    We were able to do the same thing with Oracle Application Server and Oracle WebLogic Server. I cannot remember how different the processes were, but it seems like they were very similar. I am going to give you the instructions on how we implemented a "Read PDF" procedure on the WebLogic Server. If you are still on the Application Server you may have to do some Google searches, but it all boils down to the mod_plsql DAD Configuration file.
    Our PDF was located in a table with the following structure:
    CASE_DOCUMENTS
       (id_document                    NUMBER NOT NULL,
        doc_blob                       BLOB,
        note                           VARCHAR2(240),
        created_by                     VARCHAR2(20) NOT NULL,
        created_dt                     DATE NOT NULL,
        case_id                        NUMBER NOT NULL,
        filename                       VARCHAR2(100) NOT NULL)Based on that table structure we created a procedure named READ_PDF which you will reference below in the dads.conf file below:
    CREATE or REPLACE procedure read_pdf (p_id_document IN number)
    is
      view_file     blob;
    BEGIN
      select doc_blob
        into view_file
        from case_documents
       where id_document = p_id_document;
      OWA_UTIL.MIME_HEADER ('APPLICATION/PDF', FALSE);
      HTP.P ('CONTENT-LENGTH: ' || DBMS_LOB.GETLENGTH (view_file));
      OWA_UTIL.http_header_close;
      WPG_DOCLOAD.download_file (view_file);
    END;
    GRANT EXECUTE ON read_pdf TO financial_user_role  -- Name of role to execute
    /Basically, you are passing in one parameter and that is the primary key for your table. You are selecting the pdf stored in a BLOB for that primary key. The commands below that allow the pdf to open up so you can view it – we got this off some search we did a few years ago.
    Now, you need to add logic to your Oracle Form that will call the procedure above, but the URL is based on the dads.conf file that we will set up below… Anyway, we created a button on the form module with a label of "View". In the WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger the logic looks like this:
    -- The View logic uses the DAD (Database Access Descriptors) method to view a .pdf file from the form.
    -- The DAD was created on WebLogic Server  with the name findadgen.  This allows an http request be made
    -- to the database.
    declare
      v_file          varchar2(400);
      v_success       boolean;
      ret_val         number;
      v_http_link     varchar2(400);
    begin
      -- The format of the link is as follows: hostname:port/pls/DAD_name/procedure_name
      v_http_link := 'http://finas03:8888/pls/findadgen/read_pdf?p_id_document=' || :case_documents.id_document;
      web.show_document(v_http_link, '_BLANK');
    end;The name of our WebLogic Server is "finas03" so that is what is listed in the URL. The "findadgen" is the name of the <Location> in the dads.conf file below, the "read_pdf" is the name of the procedure we created above, the "p_id_document=" is the IN parameter listed in the READ_PDF procedure created above, and the ":case_documents.id_document" is the reference to the primary key in our Oracle Form.
    For WebLogic, you can either go through Enterprise Manager (directions below) or update the dads.conf file on the filesystem directly (if you update the dads.conf file directly then skip to step 4 and ignore step 5):
    1.     Enterprise Manager -> Web Tier -> ohs1
    2.     Oracle HTTP Server (pull-down) – Administration – Advance Configuration
    3.     Select File – dads.conf
    4.     Add something similar:
    # ============================================================================
    #                     mod_plsql DAD Configuration File
    # ============================================================================
    # 1. Please refer to dads.README for a description of this file
    # ============================================================================
    # Note: This file should typically be included in your plsql.conf file with
    # the "include" directive.
    # Hint: You can look at some sample DADs in the dads.README file
    # ============================================================================
    <Location /pls/findadgen>
        SetHandler pls_handler
        Order allow,deny
        Allow from All
        AllowOverride None
        PlsqlDatabaseUsername financial
        PlsqlDatabasePassword sdo_3#d1
        PlsqlDatabaseConnectString ffindbTNSFormat
        PlsqlNLSLanguage AMERICAN_AMERICA.WE8ISO8859P1
        PlsqlAuthenticationMode Basic
        PlsqlDefaultPage read_pdf
    </Location>You are adding the <Location> section to your dads.conf file. The "finddadgen" is the name that you will reference in a change you fill make to your Oracle Form. The "financial" is the Schema, the "sdo_3#d1" is the password for that Schema, the "ffindb" is the database that the stored procedure is located on, and the "read_pdf" is a stored procedure you will have to create in order to read the pdf.
    5.     Press the "Apply" Button
    6.     Obfuscate the DAD password by running the dadTool.pl script located in $ORACLE_HOME/bin (This was done on Unix on our server with the following commands):
    $> LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$ORACLE_HOME/lib;export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
    $> cd $ORACLE_HOME/bin
    $> perl dadTool.pl -f /u01/app/oracle/middleware/asinst_1/config/OHS/ohs1/mod_plsql/dads.conf
    7.     Restart the Oracle HTTP Server using Fusion Middleware Control:
    Enterprise Manager -> Web Tier -> ohs1
    Oracle HTTP Server – Control – Shutdown
    Oracle HTTP Server – Control – Start Up
    If you followed the instructions above, you should have created a stored procedure, added logic to your Oracle form to reference that stored procedure, and created an entry in the dads.conf file. Once you move the form onto the server and you restart the HTTP Service, you should be able to view a pdf that is stored in a table directly from your Oracle Form.

  • Viewing Auto CAD file in DMS Screen

    Hi,
    Our client wants to view Autocad file within SAP DMS Screen (SAP Screen side panel).
    As per my study, We need Visual Enterprise Generator (VEG) to view 2D, 3D and few other format files.
    VEG will convert CAD files into lightweight format (Viewer format) and it will get stored in the same Content server where the Original stored.
    I understand that VEG is not part SAP ECC, we have to get seperate license for VEG.
    Is there any other way, will fulfill my requirement?
    Else, What is the licensing cost, technical requirements to implement VEG?
    Please help me on this.

  • Is there a way to add an upload option to an email form? For example upload a "cad file" or "pdf"?

    Hi Is there a way to add an upload button to an email form? I want clients to upload their pdf's or cad files along with their email from the website.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
    If you are using a third Party hosting like Gadaddy, than this cannot be done using Muse webform, but you can use jotform (or many available over the Internet) to create and insert the form in your Muse site. Please check the link here

    Dear Surya,
    of course you can have the same behavior for PDF and CAD files. You just have to create a new workstation application for these filetypes in transaction DC30 and maintain the correct parameter so that these files are also viewed by the integrated ECL Viewer.

  • Adobe 9.1.3 and FireFox 3.5.1+ "...can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser"

    This is the issue but I'm not sure there is a resolution:
    Firefox:  Version 3.5.1
    Adobe: Version 9.1.3
    When navigating the web, click a URL that opens a PDF inside the browser and you get an error * "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is
    running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser".  Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again".  I did read a post that doing a "repair" from the Adobe Reader application should fix this, they also reference a few registry keys to check becuase the post states it's lost the application path to Adobe version X.  I don't necessarily buy that "fix" and here are my details below.
    In FireFox if you navigate to Tools > Options > Applications > Adobe Acrobat Document
    You're given choices:
    Always ask:  DOES NOT WORK, produces afore mentioned error *
    Save File:  Works, saves the file to a directory on your PC
    Use Adobe Reader 9.1 (defau...:  Works, opens your PDF's outside of your web browser
    Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox):  DOES NOT WORK, produces afore mentioned error *
    Use other...:
    IE seems to just work as expected.
    If you open Adobe Reader > Edit > Preferences > Internet > Check "Display PDF in browser" - DOES NOT WORK, produces afore mentioned error *
    This would seem to be an Adobe error rather than a FireFox web browser problems since FireFox does seem to know the correct path although I suppose you can't rule out that this is a FireFox problem since 2 out of the 4 PDF open options DON'T WORK.
    Any thoughts on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Other information:
    Adobe 8.1.5 works perfectly with FF 3.5.1+ when opening PDF's in the web browser, we also had no problems with previous versions either.
    MSI push via Active Directory from Adobe 8.1.5 upgrade to Licensed Distribution I signed up for, Adobe 9.1.3 which was upgraded from 9.1.0, to 9.1.2, to 9.1.3 via an MSP patch.
    Operating system:  Windows XP SP 2, plenty of RAM, plenty of Drive
    IE version this works with the new version of Adobe 9.1.3 is version 7 (7.0.5730.13)
    Our FireFox MSI's come from Front Motions website and as far as I know we've never had problems with their MSI's, also tried the new release of FF 3.5.2 from their website.
    I think that about covers it.  Anyone else experiencing the same problems or have a patch?

    After troublshooting this for the entire day today the issue seems to be a MIME problem.
    If everything is woking perfectly, in Tools > Options > Applications...
    You should see 4 or more things related to Adobe like "Adobe Acrobat Forms Document", etc.  If you don't see at least 4 MIME entries either your Adobe installation is hosed or your FF installation is hosed.  I haven't figured out which is causing the issue.
    What I did was remaster my patches from my original Adobe 9.1.0 MSI with the two updates via the command line in the directories with the source files.  On the 9.1.0 original file I first remastered my MST transform with the Adobe MST utility.  I then applied my patches.
    msiexec /a AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd912_all_incr.msp
    msiexec /a AcroRead.msi /p AdbeRdrUpd913_all_incr.msp
    I then uploaded that to my network share, unlinked my group policy, made a new group policy, added a batch file to delete adobe.com from program file and the desktop on system startup even though my MST was supposed to take care of that - it's not a perfect world is it?  :-)
    I then reapplied my GPO's for both FireFox 3.5.2 and Adobe 9.1.3, I checked to make sure the MIME extensions were there and they were.  You might have to go into your Adobe Preferences and select that open in browser setting depending on what happens or adjust your MIME settings in FireFox's options but it should work.
    That's what worked for me.  It's possible a few other things I did along the way tweaked it out, in my group policy on the first run I did select to upgrade previous group policies, for the remaster and repush I didn't select any previous GPO's to upgrade.
    It's hard to tell what one thing tweaked it out or what combination of things tweaked out the install.  I did also reinstall Adobe 8.1.5 and FF 3.0.10 before doing all this since our machines currently have that setup, I'm not sure if that affected it either, it's just hard to tell but I don't think it did simply because I had done that several times in troubleshooting this issue.
    If anyone else has more specifics that would be great!

  • Accessible PDF files and forms

    I am beside myself with the lack of help and/or interest in the Accessiblity area. We have been mandated to make all our PDF files accessible on our Web site. We have been able to master many of the issues regarding tags and form fields, but still have questions regarding updating the original PDFs without loosing the tag structure.
    Is there any options on the Adobe site that may concentrate on this area? I called tech support yesterday (Bronze contract), was on hold for 10 mins and got disconnected. After leaving my number, they never called me back again.

    Bill
    The point was not having to create the tags again in a new file before
    replacing the pages containing the form fields in the old file. We have
    many forms that get updated right up to the last minute and to go through
    the tagging process is too time consuming. We do not use PDF Maker, but
    produce all the PDFs directly out of InDesignCS3 to Adobe Acrobat

    I am really suggesting replacing all of the pages. I was thinking that the
    tag structure would go with the replacement and you would need to create
    the other PDF with PDF Maker to keep the tagging. I may be wrong, but that
    was the view I had. If you replace a single page, I am not sure what might
    happen since that would generally not be done with PDF Maker.
    Since you already have the application process going, it is probably
    easiest for you to try the variations on replacing pages and such --
    basically what I would be doing.

  • Requesting user capability to "Save Response as PDF File w/form design intact"

    Love the new admin "Save Response as PDF File with form design intact" feature, but we really need for our indivual users (i.e. the ones filling out the form) to be able to do this. Our director still needs a hard copy of the form for manual signatures and those who pay by check. Our committee chairs use the online data (from excel file) but we also need the user to print a hard copy to physically turn in to the director. A .pdf file with form design intact that our user could print out and turn in would be helpful.

    Hi,
    We have an "Ideas" page where you can add or vote on feature ideas:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/formscentral?view=idea
    I am pretty sure this idea has been added for you to vote on, but I didn't find it to link to.  I know it is a popular request though so if you need to add a new idea click "Create an idea" under "Actions" in the top right, I am sure it will get a lot of votes..

  • Cannot view PDF files within Safari 6.0.1

    I have lost the ability to view PDF files within the safari web browser.  When I press on a link to a PDF file a blank/black screen will appear.  If I right click on the page I have the ability to Save the PDF file and then I can open it in preview.
    I also have AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin installed in ~Library/Internet Plug ins/ ... folder.
    I have tried deleting these files and restarting Safari but nothing seems to be working. I have tried installing the PDF Browser plugin form Schubert to no avail
    Does anyone have any suggestions on how can I get the ability to view PDF files in Safari using Moutain Lios OSX?

    Back up all data.
    Quit Safari. In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Copy the line of text below into the box that opens, and press return:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then launch Safari and test.
    If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
    If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • After downloading a pdf from a website, how can I view the file in Safari 6.0.4 (just as I can in Safari 5.0.6)?  I bet that it's simple, but I've missed something, somewhere, and a solution will be greatly appreciated.

    After downloading a pdf from a website, how can I view the file in Safari 6.0.4 (just as I can in Safari 5.0.6)?  I bet that it's simple, but I've missed something, somewhere, and a solution will be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Kirk,
    Thank's for your efforts, and I just wish that this was the solution.  Unfortunately, it isn't because, after double-clicking on the pdf in the website, it simply "opens" in another Safari window as a black screen - the pdf is there, somewhere, but not visible (either as an icon, or as a document).
    When I right-click in the black Safari window, where the file is supposed to be, the only option available to display the file is to "Open file in Internet Explorer" (which is not what I want to do).  Other options include saving or printing the pdf, which I don't want until I've confirmed that it's the form that I want.  The same options are offered if I right-click on the file icon in the website.
    Any other suggestions, please?

  • View BLOB content through Forms 6i URGENT... URGENT...

    I have a table which stores word documents as BLOB. My database is on UNIX machine and I access the database through a Citrix machine through Oracle Forms. My client wishes to open the word document in Forms which is stored in BLOB in the database. My database version is 9.2 which supports me to import and export files from file system to BLOB and vice versa using DBMS_BLOB and UTL_FILE packages. But, my only concern is regarding opening the word document through Forms 6i. Is that possible through OLE or any other means? I've tried all the sources. I know I can do it using Webutil, but it will not work for Forms 6i. Please help me in this regard. I have an urgent release tonight. Please. Please. Please. Please help me. Thanks in advance.

    I know that OLE can solve the problem. But issues is my word document is stored as BLOB in the database. My database is in UNIX. So, I can't export my files into UNIX and open them. I can't view them either from Forms. Please let me know if you have any alternative. Please can you guide me with step by step procedure as to how this can be done if we can do it using OLE.
