Viewing Excel Sheet in LabVIEW

I have a series of MS Excel 2007 files (xlsx) that I would like to embed and view in LabVIEW 2012 by selecting them individually. Currently the only way I can see the Excel sheet in LabVIEW is to place my ActiveX container on the front panel and then 'Select ActiveX Object' followed by 'Create Object from File'. The Excel sheet then fills the ActiveX container and that is exactly what I want my front panel to look like. However, I do not seem to be able to 'Create Object from File' programmatically using Nodes and have to manually link each file to display my result in the ActiveX container. I am sure I am missing something and any suggestion on how to acomplish this programmatically would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance!

Jeff,
I tracked that link down from nyc's broken one.  That kept wanting to open the Excel file in Excel itself, rather than in the web browser window.  BUT, there was a note in the help for one of the subVIs that said this "Note: If the Excel Workbook opens in a new window instead of the Web browser window, change the view options for the file type. From the Windows Control Panel, double-click Folder Options and click the File Types tab.  Select the .xls file extension and click the Advanced button. Place a checkmark in the Browse in same window checkbox.?
In Windows 7, that option apparently doesn't exist, but it led me here, which told me to change the registry.  After doing so, the Excel file now opens in the embedded web browser.
Thanks, gentlemen.

First, you are not reading an Excel sheet but a text file (a csv file is a text file). From the listing of the function used (from the lvproj file) you are using the Read From Spreadsheet function, this function will return a 2D array. Use the Index Array function to extract the x and y value columns. Bundle them (using the Bundle function) and wire the output to your XY-Graph.

  • Live search of on Excel sheet

I have been working with Labview for over 2 years now but I have little to no experience in data management. I have used C++ or VisualBasic in the past for data management.
What I am trying to do is open an Exel file and actively search through it. For example, (going to use food because that is the easiest) the excel sheet is open with all items on display, user types in "burger" and anything with that name will be shown. So you will get hamburger, cheeseburger, blah blah. When the word is deleted the whole menu will show. There could also be a column with "tags" such as a dessert or sweet. That way if the user knows he is looking for a dessert but sure exactly what he can do a vague search.
This is just an example; I am not working on some automated menu. I have Googled and checked the examples, but the best I can find is a way of displaying my excel sheet in Labview. Any hint, tricks, or examples that might save me some time will be greatly appreciated. I appreciated all the help and much thanks in advanced.

Excel exposes a huge number of functions through an ActiveX interface. You'll need to experiment, and search through the MSDN documentation, to find the functions that do what you want. It looks like most of the Excel examples that ship with LabVIEW use the Report Generation Toolkit, which may not have the functions you want; there's also a "Write Table to XL" example that shows how you can interact directly with Excel, although the coding style is not ideal. Somewhere between those examples though you should see enough to get started.

  • How to download the pivot view to the excel sheet with all features

    Hi,
Using discoverer, my co-worker is able to download the pivot view to excel sheet with all enabled features, like pivot table in excel.
Is this can be done in obiee? if this feature is present in obiee, plz will you explain me how to do in obiee? its urgent.
    Thanks,

    Hi abc,
I don't think BI office plug-in supports you the pivot table features of MS Excel.
Even if you import a pivot table from BI, it is rather treated just as a table in Excel

  • If data in Excel sheet Refreshes will it reflect in Xcelsius (html view)

I have created one excel sheet which has data from 2 excel sheets. I have created this excel sheet using excel macros. I am using this excel sheet as input for the xcelsius. Everything is working fine.
But when the data in thr excel sheet is modified it is not getting reflected in Xcelsius.
I have gone through the online material available. But that asks for xml source. I am not using xml as the source for my excel sheet. I am using excel sheet as the source.
Is it possible to update the data in any version of Xcelsius (4.5 or 2008)?

There is an article that can explain how Xcelsius Engage 2008 and higher (not Present) can use XML to update your presentations from a modified Excel spreadsheet. I think you should use the ActiveX to fullfill your requirements.
You can refer to this example
    <LabVIEW Folder>\examples\comm\ExcelExamples.llb\Excel Macro Example.vi
Use activeX to write and read data.

  • Changes in the Dimensions not reflected in the Current View and Excel Sheet

    Hi Experts,
We're using BPC MS Platform Version 7.0.112 and we're having problems. When we make changes in the dimension members like adding members or making changes in the hierarchy or groupings, it takes time for the changes to reflect in current view or in the excel sheet. After full processing of the dimension we can see the changes we've made when we reopen the dimension member but when we try to use the member we've added in the template, it's not yet in the current view. I've already tried, full processing of all the dimensions, processing application and reassigning aql index, refresh dimension members and yet the changes we've made doesnt appear in the current view. And what's odd is that sometimes the changes we've made would appear after a day or two or nothing at all.
What could be possibly causing this issue?
    Thanks,
    Marvin

    Hi Dzmitry,
Thanks for your response, I'm just wondering whats causing this? We never had this issue on older versions of BPC though, so it would really help if we would know the cause of this. Basicaly when do changes in a dimension, after processing (Full Process, System Offline and Process through member sheet), we just had to set the AppSet status to available and refresh the dimension members in Excel and all the changes would already be visible.
    Thanks,
    Marvin

  • Pasting data from Excel sheet to Table in web dynpro View

    Hii All,
Is it possible to copy data ( some rows) from Excel sheet and paste in table in a view?
I tried doing this, but only first element is getting pasted..
Does anybody know how to do this?
Is there any way to perform similar thing?
    Pls help.
    regards,
    Amey

    Hi,
Copy paste may work if you have that many rows in your table(not sure).
One thing you can do is upload the excel and then populate the context of the node bound to the table by fetching data from the excel
For this you can make use of JXL or APACHE POI.

  • Problem in reading data from Excel sheet to 2D string array (ActiveX & LabView).

I am trying to read data from Excel sheet to 2D string array (ActiveX & LabView). Error -2147352571 is generated (type mismatch) if cell value is "#NULL!", "#N/A" etc. What should I do?

    Hello
Is the error happening when the cell value is #NULL or #NA only?
Sometimes these errors occur because of an ActiveX object mismatch. The version of the ActiveX object might have changed or been updated since the VI was created. The VI tries to use an earlier, incompatible version of the ActiveX object.
To solve the problem, you need to link automation refnum terminal to the correct ActiveX object. To do so, right-click an automation refnum terminal and choose Select ActiveX Class»Browse from the shortcut menu. From the Type Library pull-down menu, select the latest version of the library you want to use, such as Microsoft Excel Object Library. In the Objects list, select an ActiveX object, and click the OK button. Link ea
ch automation refnum terminal in the VI and its subVIs until the run arrow is not broken. Also, you might have to replace some or all of the Invoke Nodes and Property Nodes for the ActiveX objects.
Also, I came across this Knowledgebase. The error number is slightly different but it is always good to check it out and make sure it is not your case.
    Hope this helps.

  • ALV Excel View - how to save the excel sheet

    Hi,
i've a colored ALV, when the user is choosing the excel button from the ALV menu bar the alv is shown as an excel. But: the sace button in the upper left corner has now a mouse-over text named "update" and the file tab is missing.- So how can he save this now as an excel sheet? We are using excel 2010. Saving as spreadsheet is not an option cause all colors are lost.

We have had this same issue since we upgraded to EXCEL-10.
Here is what I came up with.
First, open a new EXCEL spreadsheet from the PC (not from within the SAP application)
Select the “Customize Quick Access Toolbar”, then select “More Commands”
Under the “Popular Commands” select “Save As” and press the “Add” button.
    Then the “OK” button
You should now see the “Save As” button in the upper left hand corner of the screen (with the Save, Undo and Redo buttons.)
When you display the next SAP report as EXCEL, you should have access to this button.

  • View an excel sheet in LabView8.0

    Hi,
I am using LabView8.0. i have a normal button on the front pannel. i have to handdle an event for this button that, if i clicked on this button, an excel file(existed) should open. can you please tell me how can i acheive this.
    Thanks,
    Bannu.

One small correction. The Read From Spreadsheet File will not read a native Excel file. There is however, a shippiong example called Write Table to Excel which does show you how to open an .xls file. There is also the Excel Board where you can find other examples. If none of that helps, do a search for Excel in the LabVIEW board. There are several thousand results returned and at least one of those will help.

Are you trying to save the data in excel and display that excel sheet?
If yes, you can do that using Report generation toolkit.
