VIP device license - moving installations to new devices

I am considering purchasing two Educational CC VIP Device Licenses (as opposed to Named Licenses) for use in my computer lab.
My question is: Once I have deployed the software using the CC Packager, am I allowed to uninstall the software and move it to another device? For example, if one of my lab computers breaks down or is replace, can I move the license to a new computer, or is the device license forever tied to that computer?
It looks like this is fine for Named Licenses (since they are tied to an individual account) but It's not made clear if this is possible for Device Licenses.

Sorry if I'm being dense here.
My understanding is that the only version of Palm Desktop that will run on Vista is 6.2, so I have installed that version.
My old computer ran on an earlier version of both Windows and Palm Desktop.
When I open Palm Desktop 6.2 on the new computer and select "import", the only file types it sees are .dba and .vcal.
The datebook file from the old computer that appears (by it's last modified date) to include the latest information is a .dat file - and the version 6.2 won't see that file, so I can't (near as I can tell) import it.
Is there any option short of installing the OLD version of Palm Desktop on another computer with an earlier operating system and then using that computer to export the data into something that 6.2 can import (I'm only assuming that would work - but it seems cumbersome even if it would).
Thanks,

  • [SUCCES] Moving installation to new harddrive

Just wanted to share a little succes story with you, my fellow archers.
I decided to go SATA all the way and remove my last PATA drive. Only a few steps were necessary to acomplish this.
    1. Connect the new drive
    2. Partition drive
    3. Create filesystem (went for a xfs system this time. Old install was on ext3/4)
    4. using a livecd copy all files to the new drive
    5. change fstab and grub/menu.lst to use the new UUIDs
    6. Install grub
    7. Boot fallback image and reinstall kernel (got some errors, and this was the easiest way for me to fix it)
    8. Reboot and everything works
Anyone tried that with a windows install and having succes with it?

Okay fellas, here's what I did:
First I installed Windows 7 on the new harddrive and also made a Data partition (like used on the harddrive before).
So basically (not speaking of the changed UUID... will get to that later) my setup did not change very much, except that I have a bigger disk now
Booted with Arch LiveCD and made the ext4 partition I used to have for /.
Then I copied all the contents of my former / to the new partition. For this I used cp (following this wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dis … g#Using_cp), thanks to geniuz for the link!), which absolutely suited my needs (in this case).
NOTE on the wiki entry: You'll have to use
    cp -a /mnt/source/* /mnt/destination
    instead of just
    cp -a /mnt/source /mnt/destination
because otherwise it would create the folder source in the destination folder. Which of course is not what you want
After that I reinstalled grub to the MBR by first identifying its root (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRU … stallation), which of course now was on the new harddrive and then installing it to the MBR (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GRU … to_the_MBR).
I still had to do some fixing because of the UUIDs used in /boot/grub/menu.lst and /etc/fstab (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/UUID#by-uuid) as they had changed due to the new harddrive. You can also use /dev/sdX, but I had completely forgotten about ever using the UUIDs
My setup now (same as before, but differing sizes):
    /dev/sda1 = Windows 7
    /dev/sda2 = Data stuff
    /dev/sda3 = Arch /
    /dev/sda4 = swap
Hope anyone will find this helpful. The wikis concerning this topic are very good btw. only stating some minor typos/bugs

  • SoundBlaster X-Fi Driver Installation Fails After Moving Soundcard to New Slot

NSoundBlaster X-Fi Driver Installation Fails After Moving Soundcard to New Slot4 I recently moved my X-Fi Elite Pro soundcard to a different PCI slot to accommodate my new large PCIE graphics card.
Prior to moving the card, my?original SoundBlaster install went fine without any trouble. When I booted up after relocating the card,?it was not detected at all. So I uninstalled my SoundBlaster driver software and?rebooted the computer?thinking that was necessary to clear any hardware configuration settings from the old install. This made no difference. I then discovered my card was not seated properly and corrected it.
Next I installed the SoundBlaster driver software. The installation proceeded and finished with a request to restart the computer. Once I did, the computer detects my card and starts the hardware installation wizard asking if I want Windows to search online for driver software. It does not recognize the just installed SoundBlaster driver installation. I have a dual boot setup and this happens in both WinXP Pro and Vista 32 Home Premium.
    What's wrong here?

Forget it folks...couldn't wait for any suggestions so I just cleaned off my hard dri've and reinstalled everything. Works fine.

    New houses can do that.
We need more info - what email service is this issue about.  Do you use several (gmail, yahoo, icloud,...) and is this issue the same for all?  If you also use a computer or other device, is this issue common to them all?

  • Moving to the new BT Mail system

    Hi,
I have just received an email today and it looks like I will be moving to the new BT Mail system shortly.  So I am trying to ensure that I am all set up for it, but have two related questions I have not been able to find answers to ...
    1. I do not currently use the Yahoo web-pages, but my e-mail is instead forwarded to another account where it is merged with all my other e-mail from various accounts. Will this forwarding be carried over to the new system, or must I set it up again?
    2. The T&Cs worringly says that I must look at the BT Email webpage, otherwise my account will be suspended. What is actually meant by this as there are also instructions for collecting the email via IMAP and POP for PC programs or on a mobile device. How will people using email forwarding or a separate program/mobile be affected?
    With thanks
    Andrew

  • Licensing, moving 9i from Solaris to AIX 5L

    Hi,
I would like to know if I have to open a TAR in order to get Oracle 9i for AIX 5L?
We have used Oracle 9i for Solaris so far but we are moving to AIX 5L, and I was told by a vendor, that since we have Product and Software support the only thing I have to do is, to request it via TAR... is this true??..

As far as I know, if you purchased 9i and you have a support license and login to metalink, all you have to do is download the base release for 9i for AIX from oracle (at link below), and then download the database patches to bring it up to date. I would probably inform Oracle that your are moving to a new server so that they can keep their records up to date.

  • Moved to a new Mac - iTunes Media horro

    Hi,
this drives me crazy: I moved to a new mac and can not get my iTunes to work.
iTunes just does not find my media files.
My old setup on a PowerMacG4 was:
folder iTunes with libraries in my home folder, but the music was on another volume
So inside the "iTunes Music Library.xml" (thats how it is named in the old iTunes) there is the entry
    <key>Music Folder</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/blabla/Musik/</string>
pointing to the folder on the volume where my media files are.
Every media file has an entry in the xml, where the key "Location" points to the exact folder the file is located, e.g.
    <key>Location</key><string>file://localhost/Volumes/blabla/Musik/Alexandra/Die%2 0Legende%20einer%20Sa%CC%88ngerin/Mein%20Freund,%20der%20Baum.MP3</string>
I used "Migration Assistant" to move data from old disks to the new mac. Having connected the old volume blabla new iTunes found the files.
Having renamed the volume blabla iTunes still found the files and replaced all Location references. Magic?
So i copied all the media to my new mac to a new location and told iTunes (prefernece location of iTunes media) where my media files are.
Does not work. It still believes the file are on volume blabla. It never looks into te files copied to the new location!
Hmmm, so i looked inside the "iTunes Library.xml": The "Music Folder" is set correctly, but the files location points to the old volume.
Doing a replace for all locations in the xml doesn't work either, probably the itl-file holds the same information?
If i start iTunes again, it ovewrites all my changes made to the xml.
Not giving up yet, because I have read that if the itl is invalid, it gets rebuild from the xml i zap the itl and start itunes again. -> no more media files in the library.
I do not understand where iTunes stores its information, why there are two Library files (itl and xml) and which one is leading.
Please: how can i get itunes to recognize my media files.
This is the worst interface I've ever seen. I only want to move my media files and iTunes just does not let me do it :-(

The iTunes Library.itl file holds the key information. The .xml file is for third party support. If you have access to a working version of the library on the old machine then you can use the process in this thread to make your split library portable. Since the media has already been copied over you would then just need to copy the library files again while putting everything into the correct layout.
If that isn't possible it may be that you can trigger iTunes into fixing your broken links. Having set the media folder to the correct path in preferences, highlight a single broken tracks and attempt to Get Info. When iTunes complains the tracks is missing use the option to locate the track. iTunes should offer to attempt to fix other broken links based on the path to this one.

Well where is your library located now if not in the iTunes folder?  See the links below on what your iTunes folder should look like and put it back together:

  • I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?

I'm moving an internal hard drive from an old computer to a new computer.  (My new compute runs Windows 8.1) How do I transfer the catalog data to my new computer so the Organizer of Photoshop Elements 6 will find the data on the hard that has been moved to the new computer?  Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

  • Selling macbook Pro 2011. It came with Lion, I upgraded to mountain Lion and Mavericks. Can license be transfer to new owner? how?

selling macbook Pro 2011. It came with Lion, I upgraded to mountain Lion and Mavericks. Can license be transfer to new owner? how?

Good question now that Mavericks is free to all.
It used to be - and is probably still the case - that to comply with the license you should erase and re-install the OS that came pre-installed on the Mac when new. If there were restore disks they needed to be passed on with the Mac.
I'm happy to be corrected on this by someone who's more au fait with the legalese, but an upgraded OS is tied to an AppleID whereas the original OS is tied to the computer, not an AppleID.
My guess is, that if you launched the Recovery HD, erased the drive using Disk Utility and re-installed the OS, Lion would be installed.
Be interesting to see what others say.

  • Moved to a new address - Activate without a Technician?

I moved to a new apartment within the same building as my old apartment.  The apartments are FiOS Ready, so I don't have to worry about running wires, installing an ONT, etc.   In fact, the apartments were wired with ethernet ports specifically for FiOS when they were built, and I have already identified and configured the switch in the closet/ wall which controls which ethernet port in the various rooms is used for FiOS.
I've terminated and moved my FiOS service from my old apartment to my new apartment via My Verizon already.  However, the soonest date the online scheduler listed to have a technician come out is a week from now (which I've scheduled).  It is completely unacceptable for me to be without internet for a week.
Can I activate my moved FiOS service without a technician needing to come?

You will need to call customer service and see if they can change you to a self install or change your tech date. either way you need customer service.

I exported my passwords to a flash drive, and have a new computer. How do I get those passwords moved to the NEW machine?

Firefox doesn't have an "export" feature built into it for password data.
Exactly what did you do to "export" your passwords?
    Did you use this extension?
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/password-exporter/
If so, see the screenshots on that page to see the Import function.
If you copied the two files that are used for storing passwords from the old computer to back them up, just copy those 2 files into the Profile folder on the new computer to restore them.
