Virtual Painter 5 plugin in CS2

I recently had computer issues and VP5 disappeared.  I've only been able to find a trial version.  I've found no way to upgrade; the "Buy Now" button doesn't work.  I have the serial number.  Any ideas as to how I might get it back?  Or, faiing that, can anyone recommend a comparable and reasonably priced replacement?

Well, it is VERY difficult to locate a site on which one may ACTUALLY PURCHASE Virtual Painter 5, BUT here are the respective links for Virtual Painter 5 Standalone for Windows and Virtual Painter 5 Plug-In for Photoshop:
https://secure.shareit.com/shareit/product.html?productid=300025766&sessionid=2719563237&r andom=fa724410df34f1b4827b3853ec99f799

Today (January 17, 2015), I was able to purchase each individually for $55.00 apiece, so they are somewhat pricey.  In the past, there were three versions of Virtual Painter 5: Standalone, Plug-In and Deluxe, where the latter was simply both Standalone and Plug-In.  There is a single installer for all three, and the item actually installed depends upon the specific serial number entered at the time of installation.  Both the Standalone and Plug-In versions may be installed on the same system.
I installed both without issues on a Windows 8.1 64-bit OS, and confirmed that the Plug-In version works with Photoshop CS6; once installed, you may have to apply the filter effect you want and then select "Last Used" (or whatever that option is called) under the Filters menu.  Also, I was able to use the plug-in in other applications that work with Photoshop plug-ins.
One caveat to the above is that someone on Microsoft's Windows 8 team, in their great lack of wisdom, decided to replace the legacy Windows Help application with a stub.  That means that to view the Help file included with Virtual Painter 5 (or any other legacy Windows Help file for that matter), it is necessary to replace the stub version of winhlp32 (an executable) with, for example, version 5.1.2600.5112 from a Windows XP system.  Once that replacement has been accomplished, it is also necessary to temporarily grant EVERYONE rights (e.g., full rights) to the installation folder for Virtual Painter 5 (standalone and/or plug-in), and while those rights exist, to then open the Virtual Painter 5 help file using the Virtual Painter 5 application (or plug-in); the added EVERYONE rights may then be removed.
I hope this is helpful!

  • Porting Illustrator CS plugin into CS2

It is said in a pdf that cs2 plugins wil run on cs3. Will CS plugins run on CS2? Will it be compatible? I m using MAC OS X..

Not easily. Plugins on CS2 and newer are Mach-O binaries, CS and older are PEF binaries. XCode can only generate Mach-O binaries, Codewarrior can generate either IIRC.
It is possible to do a PEF wrapper on a Mach-O library, but the learning curve on this is rather steep.

Was soll ich da jetzt machen?

  • Setting the layer name from a format plugin with CS2 and before

    Hello,
I wrote a new format plugin and the name of the layer shown in PS , when I read a file, does not seem to be consistent on all computers for versions CS2 and before :  some times I get "Background" and some times I get "Layer 0" .
When the layer is named is "Background",  it is locked. If I double click on the layer, I get a panel to rename it and the name suggested is "Layer 0" (and not "Background").
Somehow, it seems that my plugin is not doing exactly the right thing or there is a setting in PS options (or in the registry) that controls/causes that behavior. My understanding is that we can't name layers from the plugin before version CS3 (setting the layerName field in the FormatRecord makes no difference for CS2 and before).
I do not care much about the actual layer name as long as that name is consistent for all installations. Does anybody know what is going on?
    Thank you!
    Gilbert

If it has transparency, it has to be a layer ("Layer0").
If it doesn't have transparency, it is treated as a background.
And yes, changing the background to a layer does normally rename it to "layer X".

  • RAW-Plugin for CS2 in Windows 7

    Hello,
I use Windows7 and CS2. Everything is fine, but I cannot find the right folder for The RAW-Plugin "Camera Raw.8bi" to display Raw-files in Bridge and Photoshop. Has anybody the same problem and found a solution? thanks in advance!

    Is you Win7 64-bit or 32-bit?
For 64-bit the plug-in (Camera Raw.8bi) must be placed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CS2\File Formats
If there is a copy anywhere else, delete it.

  • Will hsbhsl plugin from cs2 work in cs3

if its the same version in both where exactly do you place it in the directory on a mac? i cant  get it to load

Why don't you just use the version that came with CS3?
You put the plugin in the plugins folder - anywhere inside will do.

  • Missing Filter Plugins in CS2 - Photoshop

Good evening all, I'm trying to work with an old copy of CS2 photoshop and illustrator. I am unable to use any of the artistic filters in photoshop, that menu item is grayed out, as are several others. I was very confused, then I happened to open the "About Plug-ins" menu item, and I noticed that poster edges, and pallette knife, are not in the list. So I'm thinking somehow the plugs ins have been corrupted, or moved or something. I haven't used the program in several months. Is it possible to upload a new set of filters. Obviously I can reinstall, but I can't find the &*^%$ discs. (I know, I know ...!)
But if anybody has any clues, I'd appreciate it.

Are you using the Photoshop SDK (a tool for programmers)? If not, I
recommend asking in the general Photoshop forum, where there are a lot
more people who might be able to help.

    Bob,
What error would you get trying to open CS3 .inx on a CS2 installation that wasn't at build 688?

  • Downsave Indesign cs3 plugin to Indesign Cs2 plugin

    Hi,
I have developed a plugin for Adobe Indesign CS3 using XCode in MAC.I need to downsave the same plugin to Indesign CS2.how should i go about this.Any help would be appreciated.
    Rgds,
    Oviya

There is no quick solution to converting a CS3 plugin into CS2 - especially on Mac.  You will have to get CodeWarrior (the supported version, search the forums for the version(s) and how to configure), add your code and 'reverse the porting guide/fix compile errors.

  • Photoshop CS2 trial to full lic - impact on LR

    Hi,
Here are what I have installed in this order:
    - Expired trial Photoshop CS2
    - Lightroom (CS2 already expired when I install LR)
I am going to reinstall a full license Photostop CS2 soon, would this have an impact on my existing LR?
    1. Do I need to reinstall LR so that LR can use (or rather can 'see')
    2. Photoshop CS2 to open individual files?
    3. Would changes on the RAW images done by LR are reflected in CS2?
    4. I like LR's Library layout, do I really need to install Adobe Bridge?
    5. If I use CS2 top open files direct from LR (bypassing Bridge), what colour management is best for both worlds? ProColor RGB?
I use a Mac by the way.
    Thanks.
    Thomas

    1. No, LR is not affected by CS2 licencing procedures. LR not even uses activiation like CS2 which is very much appreciated.
2,3 You have to ensure that you use the latest Camera Raw plugin for CS2 (ACR 3.7). If you activate the automatic update of XMP metadata you will be able to see changes you made in LR in Bridge and CS2.
    4. You do not have to. But if you are using CS2 heavily besides LR I personally would recommend Bridge
    5. It makes absolutely no difference if you open a file directly in CS2 or via Bridge concerning color management. ProPhoto RGB is very well suited to deal with 16Bit raw photos and it is the internally used color space of LR. But please note that there is no best choice. It really depends on your workflow and output.

  • InDesign CS2 - don't want to ignore Whitespace elements

    Hi,
I am working of InDesign CS2 on XP-SP2, while doing manual XML import i can successfully uncheck "Do not import contents of whitespace-only elements" but i can't do the same using script....
I am using following chunk of script in CS2 which doesn't work with ESTK2.
    mydoc.xmlImportPreferences.ignoreWhitespace = false;
I noticed this works well with CS3 plugins in CS2. I need to resolve this with CS2 only. Let me know if you have any clue.
    Thanks.

Under Document Offset, specify the number of lines that are to be ignored at the beginning of the document.
This enables you to skip comment lines or column names during processing. If you do not make an entry, the default value is zero lines.

  • CS2- CS3 Observer questions.

    Hello.
Im porting a plugin from CS2 to CS3 on MAC and have run into a problem with the observer structure.
In the CS2 plugin we simply used the default values available, IID_IUNKOWN & IID_IOBSERVER...
i IsAttached (IObserver *observer, const PMIID &interestedIn=IID_IUNKNOWN, const PMIID &asObserver=IID_IOBSERVER)=0
    Called simply like this... mySubject->AttachObserver(this);
As of CS3 however this no longer possible for the "intrestedin" parameter to be left undeffined, instead the specific IID you want to monitor is required. If I understand things correctly.
i AttachObserver (IObserver *observer, const PMIID &interestedIn, const PMIID &asObserver=IID_IOBSERVER)=0
Where can I find information on what IID is connected to what action? My main interest is in guide movements and switching documents both of which my plugin have to react to.
What IID should be used to notify the plugin of movement of a guide?
What IID should be used to notify the plugin of switching of the current document?
Is there any documentation anywhere on what IIDs should be used to monitor what actions?
    Grateful for any help.
    Carl Johan Rydberg.

Thanks Dirk, the observer finally observed.<br /><br />But how can I make sure it is a guide that is being moved? In the old code theChange was sent by kMoveGuideAbsoluteCmdBoss so it was available immediately. Also since it was the IID_IDYNAMICUPDATE that was the protocol used it was possible to check what state it was in before executing our function.<br /><br />if (theChange == kMoveGuideAbsoluteCmdBoss )<br />   ICommand* cmd = (ICommand*)changedBy;<br />   InterfacePtr<IDynamicUpdate> update(cmd, IID_IDYNAMICUPDATE);<br />   IDynamicUpdate::DynamicState state = update->GetDynamicState();<br />   if (state == IDynamicUpdate::kEndDynamic)<br />   {<br />      mystuff->UserMovedGuides(kTrue);<br />   }<br />}<br /><br />Where do I find the kMoveGuideAbsoluteCmdBoss you mentioned and how do I access it to check if it was a guide movement that was signaled?<br /><br />Carl Johan Rydberg

  • Problem opening up a RAW file with CS2

I just bought an Olympus E30 camera and shot in RAW. When I uploaded to my computer I was able to open them up with the Olympus editing program but when I try to open in CS2 it gives me an error message that it doesn't recognize the file. File example: _C181661.ORF

In order for photoshop cs2 to open the E30 files you need to use the 6.6 DNG Converter to convert your files to dng copies and then cs2 should be able to open them.

Also the newest camera raw plugin for cs2 is 3.7
