Virtual USB

Hello -
I hope I describe this correctly so please forgive me in advance....
I want to create a 9 button front panel VI that will send a predescribed hex string/number to the computer to act as a command in a third party software package.
The key is that it needs to be sent through a USB port so the 3rd party software will react correctly. I believe the correct terminology would be a virtual keypad input device that would be interfaced through a virtual USB port. Does that make sense? The third party software needs me to tell it the Com port to look at for the commands to be coming from.
I would like to see it as a device on my Windows device and printers screen as a com port. I would also like to be able to watch that virtual port to see the string that was sent.
I did quite a bit of searching here but don't see anything as I am asking for it. I am wondering if my terminology is leading me astray in my searching.
I tried to add a port in MAX with no luck. It seems to add it but in the VI, it doesn't show up as an available port and my devises and printers screen doesn't show it either. I tried to add Com2 in the MAX screen shot attached and trying to see it in the Visa resource control in the other picture.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give me.

Dennis – I am hoping that when a person of your experience levels suggests this could be a challenge, that will motivate a few to overcome it and tackle the challenge!
So for a little background, as a hobby, I develop input devices for the gaming community. These are up to 64+ inputs that are comprised of push switches, toggles, rotaries, slides and more. I package them, discrete wire them to a microprocessor, program them and offer them to the gaming community for flight simulators, racing rigs, etc. I call it a hobby because if I break even on cost I am lucky. I just enjoy it to help the guys that contact me. This is an external device obviously that interfaces through USB. Windows sees it as a gaming device. (Keyboard, joystick, etc.) (I attached a sample picture of one.)
The user assigns one of the inputs to a particular function within the setup screen on their software to controlk that function during their gaming simulation experience.
Over the past year or so, I have been using LabVIEW to create custom virtual dashboards to output telemetry information. These are performance parameters that the software outputs. This has been going well so I thought I would try another step.
My attempt here is to create a virtual interface front panel to do the same thing as my external micro-processer controlled hardware box does. That is why I wanted to try to pass the data through the USB port per the help you gave me above with the serial port emulator. I have all of that working per the attached pictures but the gaming software doesn’t see it as an input or react. Again, per the additional research, the software needs to see it as a gaming device in the devices and printers screen. This is how my external box shows up also.
Thanks for any help or direction you can give to get me there.

  • Connection PDA through virtual USB controller in Virtualbox

hi! i need some guideness for doing the connection with my pda device and usb controller in virtualbox
i ve found what to do on user guide of virtualbox. i'm placing the the specific part that i found in the page 49.here it is user manual of virtualbox:
On Linux hosts, VirtualBox accesses USB devices on Linux through the usbfs file
system. Therefore, the user executing VirtualBox needs read and write permission to
the USB file system. Most distributions provide a group (e.g. usbusers) which the
VirtualBox user needs to be added to. Also, VirtualBox can only proxy to virtual ma-
chines USB devices which are not claimed by a Linux host USB driver. Please refer to
the Driver= entry in /proc/bus/usb/devices to see which devices are claimed.

using synce you can install apps, browse files. It can even install from exe's using a tool called orange. Files can also be browsed through a vfs in kde. (and maybe gnome?). Syncing can be done with opensync.
can you tell me specific commands and examples because i havent done anything in the specific field, so i dont have a clue how it works? i have download synce , but except from that its all chinese for me...(sorry for that but im Greek and i cannot say that its all greek to me... ), i use KDE. ty

  • What is difference between using VIrtual USB port and standard TCP/IP port

    Have a dv6t 2000 laptop and connecting to a photosmart 6150
Trying to figure out why I have two printer devices installed for the same printer, actually three, one says 6100 series (have to connect to laptop docking station), one says 6100 series 1 (this one i can print to wirelessly) and the last one says 6100 series fax.
Both the 6100 series and 6100 series 1 only allow me to scan when it is docked but i can print wirelessly to series 1.
is there a way to scan wirelessly as well.  Allprinters are shared home network.

Let's handle the easy one first.  The 6100 series fax icon was installed by the HP software as a printer so that you can select that printer from a program.  When you select the 6100 series fax to print to, it sends out that document as a fax skipping the hard copy step of faxing.
When you look at the icons in the printers folder keep in mind that those are for printing not scanning.  Those icons do not represent a scanner being installed.  It would appear that you have setup the HP software once when docked.  I am assuming that the printer is attached USB to the laptop dock.
To clear this up, delete the series 1.  That is your network print icon.  Once it is deleted, undock the laptop and then rerun the HP software.  It should come up to a menu where you can select Add a Device.  Go through the network install and it should put a series 1 icon back into the printers folder but also enable scanning over wireless.
    I was an HP employee.

Virtual PC does not support USB.  Windows 7 XP Mode Virtual Machine supports the use of USB devices.  Virtual PC and Windows 7 XP Mode VM are not the same thing!

  • How do I remove USB virtual printer port

Im having some problems printing (see different thread) so I have removed all reference to the printers and drivers (nothing in devices and printers; nothing in print management), Ive removed all USB devices (except the mouse) switched off and removed the
battery for 60 minutes. The restarted.
    Still 3 USB ports
    Ive tried
http://www.ehow.com/how_6688235_delete-usb-virtual-printer-port.html  but I cant see the virtual USB ports in device manager
http://www.ehow.com/how_6910965_delete-usb-printer-port.html  But I cant (unsurprisingly) find the ports in installed programs
http://www.ehow.com/how_5869559_remove-usb-printer-port.htmll  (delete form devices and printers) But when I highlight the port from printer properties and click delete I get "selected port cannot be deleted. The request is not supported
Makes me think these are not properly installed ports.
Ive searched the registry for USB001 and there are 4 USB00? entries all under unknown printer with headings like 6&30e6e7fe&0&USB003. So I tried to deleted all of them. It lest me delete the parameter sub key but I am not allowed to delete the other
    keys (error while deleting key)
So after a bit of a search I came up with psexec (see link for more details and do take backups and read the instructions)
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/56fed319-a532-46a4-a384-fd795998c4a3/regedit-permissions-access-denied-or-error-while-deleting-key-even-as-admin?forum=w7itproinstall
And that allowed me to get rid of the ports from the registry but they were still visible in Devices adn printers under ports (after slecting a device)
So how do I get rid of these wretched ports?
    TFAI

    Hi,
Yes, you could create a new port for other printer. Of course, you also assign it to a different print if you don't use this printer.
    The detailed steps are below:
    1. Click the START button, click navigate to "Control Panel", then navigate to and click on "Printers."
    2. Once the printers window is open, click on "Add a printer" in the dark blue menu bar.
    3. At the "Choose a printer port" section click on the "Create a new port" radio button then select "Standard TCP/IP Port" for the "Type of port."
    4. At the "Type a printer hostname or IP Address" section select "TCP/IP Device" for "Device type" and input the proper hostname depending on the printer that you are installing, the IPs for all of the different departmental printers can be gotten from the
main printer help page on this website.
    5. At the "Type a printer name" section type in what you would like to call the printer under the "Printer name" section, this is entirely up to you. Here you also want to make sure that the driver that it says it will install corresponds with the model
    of printer you are installing.
    6. After the installation you should get a section called "You've successfully added [printername]." Here you should click the "Print a test page" button to make sure everything is installed correctly.

  • E3200 - USB port does NOT work for more than one device

We needed a new router that had the dual band connectivity as our previous router stopped working properly when we started using a baby monitor operating on the same 2.4 GHz. The choice was between E3200 and E2500. We chose the E3200 mainly because it also offered a USB port. We were hoping to use that to connect our printer and two external drives (thus bypassing our old desktop that's been working as a server). However, it turns out that the USB port on E3200 does NOT support USB hubs! So, you can ONLY use ONE device - either a printer or one external storage drive. That wasn't really clear at all from the description. I feel like we wasted the extra $50 hoping to get functionality that just isn't there. Can't believe that in this day and age, Cisco thinks we all have only ONE USB device we might want to connect to the network! The router itself is fast enough, but the extra $50 for a USB port that doesn't do much and some speedboost phantom ability is just not worth it.

Just to save time to you all, after numerous attempts to install a USB hub to my E3200,
I wrote to Cisco Customer Service (live chat) and I specifically requested how to set up the usb hub or the virtual USB port and they said that they do not have a software to install a USB hub.
    Hope this help
    Massimo

  • EA6500 - USB Control center - Could not find router when hooked up wirelessly

Not sure if this is the right place but I felt it should be posted somewhere on the internet.
I recently purchased a Linksys EA6500. I decided to try to hookup my printer through the it. I installed the USB Control Center and had some issues with it. It wouldn't detect my router. All I would get is "A compatible router with USB port was not found on your network".
When I hooked up my laptop to the ethernet port I was then able to get a connection to the router with the software. If I left my Wireless connection on while I did this I would unplug my computer ethernet the USB Control Center remained connected until I closed the software. When I reopened it could not see the router again. I tried on another laptop and it was working correctly.
At this point I started my research into the software and noticed in the help menu 2 things.
    1) the software was made by belkin
    2) they had other thing hooked up including keyboard and mice
    http://i.imgur.com/6NAQ5Jv.png
With this information I decided to try to make troubleshooting a bit easier by using a Lenovo Multimedia Remote with Keyboard N5902. I tried it on the second laptop that had no problems first and it kinda worked. The keyboard part worked and the mouse didn't. So I went to the computer that had issues connecting hooked it up via eithernet to test and I blue screened it. The dump file said the "AMD USB Filter Driver" crashed.
This lead me to 3 areas I need to troubleshoot on this laptop.
    1) USB Control center
    2) My Wireless adaptor (Atheros AR9285)
    3) USB Drivers
First thing I did was troubleshoot the AMD USB Filter since that did blue screen. The USB drivers on this computer are a mess. I have the standard A6 chipset drivers, the vmplayer virtualized usb drivers and then the virtual drivers for the USB Control Center. I updated what I could (Still crashed) and in the end used the Catalyst Install Manager to remove the AMD USB Filter driver and the Lenovo N5902 kinda started to work. On this computer the Mouse part worked and not the computer. Not worried because I did not have to run to the printer (wasting paper) and router all the time to keep troubleshooting.
The next thing I did was update my wireless drivers since it was the wireless portion that was having issue and not the ethernet. This did not work.
Finally I came back to the USB Control Center software. The Driver it is using is called "SXUPTP Driver" in the System Devices catagory. There were no downloads availible on the Linksys site for the software so I went to belkin and downloaded there latest version. I installed it and had the same issue. can detect the router wired but not wireless. I then look to the Driver manufacturer, Silex Technologies. They had no product called USB Control Center. Googled SXUPTP and a Microsoft page refed to "SX Virtual Link" made by Silex.
    http://silexamerica.com/campaign/sx-virtual-link-downloads/
I extracted the drivers and installed them. USB Control center still has the same problem. Installed SX Virtual Link software and it works.
    http://i.imgur.com/7wSEq8i.png
It works really well. I decided to hook up a USB Hub and put on different devices to see what I can do. The only Disapointment was the Microsoft Lifecam Cinema was not found. If did find a few other random things.
    http://i.imgur.com/aBI66jY.png
The only downside is that With the USB hub the router can no longer find USB storage devices to act like a nas. I'm ok with that since I did not like the idea of router in control of internet data sharing. I am ok with the fact that I can still hook up a thumbdrive via SX Virtual Link. In fact thumb drive not reconized by the usb storage in the router can be used via the SX Virtual Link. What I'm looking at now is hooking up an external DVD drive to it for devices that do not have drives. SX Virtual Link DOes reconized when a device is in use by a computer running USB Control center. there is no compatibility uses.
I am using Windows 7 64bit on an hp laptop with an A6 chipset connected wirelessly to an EA6500 router.
In short if you are having issues with USB Control center and your other drivers are up to date then just try the SX Virtual Link.
I felt this neede to go somewhere on the net.

Great Advice and solution Rob, it is working with your advice.
    Thanks

  • How do you simulate an encoder using a virtual channel?

I am trying to use MAX to simulate hardware so I can create a program before I purchase the hardware. I will be purchasing a USB-6211,  TTL quadrature encoder, and LVDT.
I want to simulate a quadrature encoder and a LVDT. I have created a virtual channel for each and a virtual USB-6211.
The LVDT is simulated by creating a virtual analog input channel. This virtual channel works when I test the vi.
The encoder is simulated by creating a virtual angle counter. This virtual channel does not work when I test the vi.
How do I get this virtual angle counter to work?

    Kristen,
I do not get an error. The problem is that I do not get any action from the virtual channel.
     For
example, when I created the virtual analog input channel, this channel
provides a simulated varying voltage when I run the vi. The virtual
angle counter channel does nothing at all when I run the vi.

  • How to hotsync a Palm TX in Virtual PC 7 (& use Medicopeia, for example)

I was able to sync the Palm TX of my wife in Virtual PC 7 & Windows XP. To do so, I enabled Virtual Switch in PC Settings so Windows would have its own IP address.
Then, I asked the Palm TX to connect through WIFI (through our home network) by giving the IP address of Windows XP (you can find it in Hotsync -> Network -> TCP/IP Settings). The connection worked the second time, @ full speed. It took almost 5 minutes to install Medicopeia on the Palm TX.
I did this manoeuvre because I could not hotsync the Palm with the usb cable... Hotsync (in Windows XP) would just not see the Palm TX, even though XP would see it. Hotsyncs seems to be looking for a COM port, and not a USB port. I could not understand why... Anyway.) All of this was done with Hotsync disabled in Mac OS X.4.

  • Howto set up USB printer on E4200 in Linux?

I just got a new E4200 v2 wireless router.  I'm intrigued by the USB port, especially for using it to connect a printer.  I currently have a D-Link wireless print server that I'm using to create a network-attached printer, but if I could remove an extra device and just have the printer connected straight to the router that would be great.
So how do you do it?  The documentation says to go through the Connect software but that's only on Windows or Mac.  I'm running Ubuntu.  My current setup exposes an IPP or LDP port or something...I don't remember which, but it works via CUPS.  I found some forum posts here from a year or so ago that mention being able to manually configure things, but none of them had details.
Is it possible or am I out of luck?

I think it is not  possible to use the virtual usb feature of that router since your computer's OS is not supported by Cisco connect 1.4. Try to verify this concern from ubuntu but I doubt that you will be able to make your printer to work with the router w/o using the print server.
