Visa in Labview 6

Hi
Do applications (exe) written and built in LV6 still work with the VISA
installable which worked with LV5.1.1 applications. I just noticed that
all serial comms in LV6 are visa.

  • Report generation VIs in Labview 6.1

    Hello,
I am havinf problems with using Labview 6.1 VIs for report generations. The VIs provided by Labview are not executable! It seems as if they had internal errors, non fixed errors. Moreover, I am not able to open the diagram because it is password protected. Does someone know if there is any patch to fix this or the reason why these VIs don't work?
    Thanks a lot!
    Regards,
    María

    Hello Maria,
are you using the report Generation Toolkit for MS Office or the standard vis that LabVIEW provides for report generation?
If you use the Office toolkit, this may help:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/3efedde4322fef19862567740067f3cc/c8888a9a74e75c4786256cda00694a1e?OpenDocument
If not, this may also help:

In any case, WHAT I WOULD TRY FIRST is to do a Mass Compile of the folder where the report vis are located.
Here you can see what this does and how to perform it:

One last question...are you having trouble only
with executables or also during development?

  • Closing without closing RT engines VIs with LabView 8.0

In LV 7.1 you clicked 'Closing without closing RT engines VIs' in the File menu. How does this work with LabView 8.0?
Is the only way to Configuring Startup VIs on LabVIEW Real-Time Targets or to get the  Application Builder?

I think this knowlege base entry explains the solution to your question. Please let me know if this isn't what you are talking about.

  • [RESOLVED] My windows XP machine is trying to open .VIs in Labview 7.0 instead of 8.5

Edit: Looks like I'm not sure how to delete a post so I'll just update with how I resolved the issue: by opening LV8.5 and running a .VI from this instance, the option to use 8.5 became available in the 'open with...' list!
    Howdy!
Somehow over the weekend my machine (Windows XP, 32-bit) decided that it wanted to start referencing LV 7.0 to open .VIs instead of v8.5 like it's been for the previous months. The main issue that I'm seeing is that since all versions of labview are simply called "labview.exe", I can't get Windows to change from one version to the other (since, in the 'open with...' interface, it doesn't show another instance of Labview when I navigate to LV 8.5 via the browse function) and the registry is just as ineffective -- HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.vi\OpenWithList simply has "labview.exe" with no information of version whatsoever.
So I come to you fine folks of the forums: Have you come across this issue before? If so, how was it resolved?
    Thanks much!

  • Reading/writing to serial port w/ VISA in Labview

I'm writing a Labview program to control and to read data from a Varian vacuum pump controller. It is connected to the serial port in my computer, and I have been trying to open a VISA session to communicate with the instrument. So far, however, the computer cannot see the instrument--I get the same error messages reading and writing to the instrument as I do to an empty serial port. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem might be? Thank you.

There are a lot of possiblities. Is the cable correct? You probably need a crossover cable (TX and RX) swapped. You also need to check and make sure the serial ports on both ends are set the same (i.e. baud rate, handshaking, stop bits, etc.). Make sure that the port is enabled. I've seen people try to use a comm port only to find that a modem card installation caused the port to be disabled. You could also try using hyperterminal to talk to the instrument. If you can communicate there, you can eliminate any hardware problem.

  • Compare two VIs in LabVIEW Full Development System

I am using Labview 8.6 Full Development System. I want to compare two VI's, what is the best way to do it? I am  using TortoiseSVN source code control software.  I found some VIs (vi_diff.vi) in this forum. But this VI will work only in Professional Development System. Because this vi will use LabVIEW8.6\project\procmphier.llb\CMP compare two VIs.vi. This vi will work only in professional system.
How can I compare two VIs in my current LabVIEW system. Pls give suggestions.
    Thanks
    Nesara

If you pay more for the PDS than the FDS, you want more features. The diffing is one of those. So you either get the upgrade $$$. Or you do it manually.
Manually, I go for a complete VI documentation (I don't remember the menu entry) of one of the VIs and have that open as pdf while going through the code of the other.

  • Where Used for VIs and LabVIEW Project

Is there a way in LabVIEW Project Manager to check the Where Used status on all the VIs at the same time? I am going through a project trying to weed out VIs that are not used in the project. I know I can check the "Find Callers" for each VI, but this feels slow and cumbersome. Is there a way I can generate a report to find the Where Used status on all VIs in a project?
    Thanks,
    Matt

You also have the Find Items with No Callers Dialog Box as of LV 8.5

    hello all
i hav a built a VI that aquires a thermocouple signal through my daq card....i intend to use sound VIs whenever my temp.exceeds set point..in short sound should b generated whenever temp.exceeds certain limit...... i hav used a "Beep" VI in my code....but no beep occured even if my temp.crossed set point.....is there any other platform required for using sound VIs??....i work on labview 7.0 professional development suite.

    hello
after i posted this msg i heard a beep sound on my  pc speakers by placing only beep vi on block dig...and also with my code running properly.( that when my set point exceeded beep started ringing)......but after that i tried experimenting on many sound VIs.....n now when i place beep vi seperately on a block diagram it is not giving audio signal....same is happening with my code also....i cant here sound.....after successfully hearing  beep sound on my pc speakers now wat suddenly happened with it??......would it b due to opening and closing many sound vis at a time??....like it happens in case of DAQ devices..that wen v use traditional daq devices n try using DAQmx devices after that they don't run unless v reset our traditional daq drivers.....so is it possible in case of sound vis also?...atleast a separate beep vi should run giving sound on speakers if i assume my code is wrong...

  • Using LabJack VIs in LabVIEW

Hi, I'm using LabVIEW with a third party DAQ card, the LabJack U12. I know that its drivers are supported by LabVIEW, but I can't figure out how to add the LabJack VIs to the library. when I added the includes VIs into the user library, then ran LabVIEW, the user library was filled with blocks with question marks in them. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

You may have to copy the LabJack library file (the folder where that is located) to the addons folder (directory) so the path in Windows Explorer would look like: vi.lib\addons\LabJack. With a new folder containing the LJ library files. I think this is something I had to do on atleast one of the computers I use.
Or you can ask the LJ support at: [email protected] Or you can post in the LV section of their forum on their website, I'm sure they or someone would be able to help you there as well. It probably wouldn't be a bad idea to e-mail them anyway, they have great tech support.Message Edited by MAH2681 on 03-31-2005 04:54 PM

  • Where are the Flex Motion VIs in LabVIEW 2011

    Hi all!
I just installed LabVIEW 2011 and tried to open an old project made with LabVIEW 6.1, but it can't find the Flex Motion VIs like "Load Target Position.flx" and such. How do I get them back? Do they have to be installed separately?
    Thanks in advance.

Simply saying 'it did not work' is not very descriptive. Drivers do come with LabVIEW (at least when purchased) but in any case, did you try clicking on the 'Support' link at the top of the page and entering '7354' as a search item. It would have brought you here. Im not sure but I think the old flexmotion is obsolete and you would need to replace with NI-Motion functions.

  • How to install VISA after Labview and NI-DAQ are already installed

I have Labview 5.1.1 and NI-DAQ 6.6 installed and running properly. I now find that I need to install VISA. Must I uninstall everything (hardware, NI-DAQ, and Labview) and then run the Labview installation again to install VISA? Or can I just go ahead and run the Labview setup again in order to install VISA?

No, you do not need to uninstall any of your hardware or software to install VISA. There are two ways that you can install VISA.
    1. You can modify your installation of LabVIEW by going into Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel, clicking on LabVIEW and selecting Modify (or Change, depending on your operating system). If you have your LabVIEW CD in the CD drive, you can simply enable VISA support in the Installer Tree. This will install VISA on your computer without modifying the installation of any of your other programs.
    2. You can also download NI-VISA from our website and install it. You will probably need a reasonably fast internet connection, but this may be the easier way to install it. The URL for the VISA download page is linked below. Ve

  • Sequencial execution of two VIs in LabView

    Hi,
I am sure other people have encountered the similar problem, but I can not seem to find relevant posts
    on the NI forum.
I have two VIs.  I like to execute one VI first (which is a while loop), and a second later execute the 2nd VI.
Since the first VI runs "forever", the 2nd VI would never get executed if I put the two VIs in a sequence
    in a main VI.
What is the best way to do this? I apologize for the newbie question.
    Best regards,
    Jianglai

You can use queues or notifiers to do this. Here's an example using notifiers that runs a second vi once after the first vi has run in the loop.
See the Master/slave or producer/consumer design patterns (they are included in the LabVIEW templates) if you need to run the second vi more than once.
