Vista Airport Drivers - Causing Vista Slowdown

Hiya,
Dont know if this is the right place really, but I have started to play around with Vista on my 20¨ Imac Dual-Core2.
Everything runs excellent and I get a very respectable 4.5 Experience rating - BUT, the system slows down every 60 seconds or so just for a few seconds.
After doing some research, I've narrowed the problem down to the wireless Airport drivers - in the iMac, the Airport card is listed as a Broadcom 802.11n.
I cannot find any working drivers at the moment though - has anybody else experienced this and any ideas of a fix please?
Thanks, Paul.

Thank you for your fast response. What you have said is indeed correct too. Thank you for pointing out the X-Fi Xtreme Gamer card said for XP on the box. You are Creative, you are a massi've company. Your excuses don't wash. The problem us consumers have , and I'm sure I speak on behalf of most of your?valuable customers who have migrated to Vista/Vista?64 is the computer industry being?apparently unable?to provide 00% working drivers and applications for?the new operating system from Microsoft at the time of it's launch? The truth is, the launch of Vista/Vista 64 has been a disaster for the everyday PC consumer?(vista 64 in particular) because not even the 'major?players' have provided the level of driver support their customers quite rightfully expect from them. It is a shambles. Whether that is Microsofts fault or the others?like you?not deli'vering?I don't know. What I do know is I am fed up with it all.
Ok, I have already had to ditch a TV Tuner card that no longer works with Vista 64 (no driver support!) and I'm disappointed,?but we are talking about a very small company here. Creative should be ashamed of themselves to not have 00% working drivers and applications ready at the time of the Vista launch. Not just Creative, but all the 'major companies' out there (who I guess I can't mention here right) should be really and truly ashamed of themselves at how they have treated customers. It is an awful situation right now. I am a PC enthusiast and I love playing games. I pump a lot of my own money into the computer industry. Right now I feel abandoned and fed up (no I'm not going over the top) by Microsoft and the computer industry.
This experience could put computer enthusiasts off?for good because this is diabolical, unacceptable and is?not good for your business or anyone else in the computer industry. Now then, let me think,? WII, PS3, XBOX360 (yes prior to Vista, no after it). Life doesn't have to be this complicated does it.

  • Firefox causing system slowdown?

The past few weeks my system has been slowing down/lagging after a period of time. It usually gets so bad that it affects Chrome as well. Usually when this happens Firefox either crashes or has problems with a script. At first I thought this was due to having three windows with multiple tabs open, but even with one window with multiple tabs opens I'm still having slowdown issues. I need to know what is causing these slowdowns so I can fix them.

    Hi,
There's two problems here, maybe, just one. Your crash signature is caused by either hardware acceleration or Firefox ran out of memory because your System Memory percentage is at 96-98 in your reports, that's high.
Try each solution and tell me which one works.
Firefox has hardware acceleration set to "on" by default, but it's still young, which means some video cards or drivers might have problems with it. You can try to disable hardware acceleration to see if that alleviates your problems.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps for Firefox version 29.0 and above:
*Click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select Options for Windows or Preferences on Mac or Linux. For Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
This also looks like out-of-memory crashes where something is using up all available memory.

  • What are the main causes of slowdown (long term)?

I've had my MacBook for about 3½ years now, and it's starting to slow down. (Hardware specs are in sig.)
Yup, I know it's normal. It's happened with every computer I've owned, regardless of platform.
*_WHAT I CURRENTLY DO ABOUT IT_*
I routinely run Maintenance (http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/maintenance.html), a free app that—yep, you guessed it!—performs maintenance on your Mac. It uses a mix of maintenance scripts that are built-in to OS X (OS X runs them silently, but this allows them to be run on demand), and some of its own methods for cleaning a Mac to keep it running smoothly.
I've found that Maintenance does help—I definitely recommend it!—but the older my MacBook has become, it seems the less Maintenance can do to mitigate the slowdown that comes with age.
    *_MY CURRENT BELIEF_*
I don't think it's because the hardware is old by today's standards, because in my experience if you reformat any machine it will operate significantly faster, even after restoring all of the software that was removed by the format.
I've become increasingly suspicious about the hard drive's free space's effect on a system's performance. I've always known that it has a noticeable effect—less swap space for virtual memory—but I'm beginning to wonder if the effect of a mostly-full hard drive is much more than I have previously imagined. Just a feeling.
    *_MY QUESTIONS_*
*#1: What are the leading causes of slowdown (long term)?*
*#2: What are the solutions to each of the above problems?*
    • acknowledging that there may not be a solution to every problem, and
    • some solutions may solve a problem “more completely” than others

    • I was under the impression that Disk Utility's “Repair Disk” would fix all non-permissions-related errors (other than physical damage, obviously). If they can be fixed by a backup-reformat-restore, then I take it they are software (filesystem) based problems. If so, why can't software solve the problem without a reformat?
Disk utility can and does repair permissions and basic disk errors. However it does not rebuild directory data.
    • How exactly do directory structure errors happen, and what other consequences do they have (if any)?
The article on alsofts website should help
    What is directory damage?
It is worth noting that in the future when Mac OS X support the ZFS disk format directory damage will be a thing of the past.
    however as you said
Yep, I'm at 11.2% free disk space. Thanks for the info!
I think this is your main issue. Try moving your itunes and movie to an external drive then see how your mac performs.
Also a good way to reclaim some space is to delete all the language localisations you dont use. It is amazing that iWeb alone can install a few 100megs of foreign language templates that you will never use.
I used to use Mike Bombich's delocalizer to do this but that app is not longer available so I use monolingual now.
edit, as you have macbook you are lucky in that it is really straightforward to install a bigger internal hard drive.
You can now get 5000GB 2.5 inch sata hard drives. You could take out the old drive hook that up to a usb to sata cable, install a bigger hard drive. then connnect the usb cable to your mac. Then boot from your Leopard Disk then use disk utility clone your old drive onto your new drive.

  • Drivers cause BSOD {URGENT}

    Good day
About 2 years ago I bought this laptop for a really good deal and i was impressed with the performance i got with it. Its quite a powerful and quality piece of tech.
    There are some drawbacks...
In the two years ive had it ive formatted the laptop twice. Once to upgrade to windows 8.1,  and now because windows got corrupted and it didnt want to use a restore point. Which is normal for windows, it doesnt last forever.
Drivers are a mess. Most i can gather is i'm suppose to download my laptop's drivers from here.
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-Pavilion-dv6-Entertainment-Notebook-PC-series/522...
There are 3 different wireless lan drivers, the chipset drivers cause BSOD's, i can install every single driver on the list and i still have about 4 unknown devices in my device manager.
Point is Im better off googling for the hardware ID's and scrubbing forums for my drivers.
Please could Someone supply me a link where i can download a complete Driver DVD image for my laptop model that works.  I am more than willing to download a 1.4 gig torrent if it has proper work everytime drivers.
Infact i would even drive to hp head office if they could supply me with a hardcopy.
    Help Please!
    Before i break something.
    Back on windows 7 btw

    Hi @Pixelite ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have looked into your issue about your HP Pavilion dv6-7030ei Notebook and needing a recovery disk. Here is a link to show you how to and or order the Recovery Media you need.
FWI: The driver page shows all drivers that were installed on all HP Pavilion  Notebooks.
I would uninstall all the drivers with a yellow mark or caution on it. Restart the Notebook and if they are still there right click on the device and install or update the drivers.
I hope this helps you out.
    Thanks.
Please click “Accept as Solution ” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
Click the “Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom to say “Thanks” for helping!

  • Is Mavericks causing intermittent slowdowns

Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, my iMac suffers constant slowdowns.
    1.  I wonder whether kernel_task (typically using more than 600 MB memory), or com.apple.IconServicesAgent (typically using more than 200 MB memory) are normal values?
    2.  Many experts in the Community say that CleanMyMac is worse than useless, that it can actually "damage" the OS. Could CleanMyMac cause intermittent slowdowns? Should I ditch this software anyway?

  • Airport Drivers

I wnat to configure my 15" Powerbook G4 Titanium (400MHz, pre gigibit, OS 10.3.2) so that I can use wireless networking. After unsuccessfully trying a Belkin card, I just ordered a Sonnet Aria Extreme. The manufacturer's web site indicated I need Airport Drivers vesion 3.1 or later. How do I determine what version drivers are installed on my computer. If they are not the correct version, where can I find the right ones?
    Powerbook G4 (15-inch Titanium)   Mac OS X (10.3.2)

I notice you're running 10.4.2. The latest Mac OS X version is 10.4.6, and these incremental updates include AirPort Extreme updates. Therefore keeping on top of them ensures your AirPort Extreme drivers will be current.
    Run Software Update!

  • Airport is causing kernel panics

Hello. A few days after I got the logic board replaced in my iBook G4, I began experiencing frequent kernal panicking. This only happens when the Airport is enabled. I've checked the panic.log and "Airport" is the only discernable thing I can find in the jumble of code. I took the iBook back to the store and they reseated the Airport card, but the problem is still occurring. I still think it is completely hardware-related. I've reinstalled OS X and that didn't help at all (freed up some space though). Do you think a brand-new Airport Extreme would fix it? Also please keep in mind that this model iBook has a completely INTERNAL built-in Airport Extreme, not the one that's located underneath the keyboard. I can't access it without taking the entire machine apart and voiding warranty.

Yes, it works when booted into safe mode. It works perfectly as long as I keep the Airport off. I'm 100% certain that the Airport is causing problems, but I'm not sure if it's completely hardware or if there is some software difficulties as well. I ran AHT and the Airport passed, but that doesn't solve much because the Airport will work fine up until it panics.

  • Ascaron Entertainment says that buggy X-Fi drivers cause problems with new Sacred2 game. See Rea

    Hi CL.
Ascaron has just released Sacred2 ( http://www.sacred2.com ) - an action RPG that uses OpenAL. Ascarons Readme.txt from Patch 2.0 says that graphical corruptions and crashes can occur if the OpenAL API is used in game.
They say we need to wait for updated drivers released by your company before OpenAL can be used with Sacred2 and X-Fi cards.
Is this correct? Are you aware of any problem?
Thx for any reply regarding the matter.

With the English demo of Sacred 2, the sound is fine as long as you do not select "OpenAL" in the options (which is off per default). Selecting OpenAL caused horrible screeching sound. This was tested on Vista x64 with the lastest release driver 2.8.4, I did not test with the current beta.
Regarding who's fault it is, I don't know.
Too bad few games using OpenAL, because it is hardware accelerated sound that should work in Vista. Seems most games are using some sort of softwarebased sound renderer today.

  • Screenshot Pimp 6 causing browser slowdowns Just an FYI...

Just an FYI for anyone whose experiencing page freezes when loading images and has Screenshot Pimp installed.
OK... to start im using w2k pro... believe it or not!! Never liked XP much and vista...FORGET IT! Now testing the w8 developers preview. SOOOO...this problem MAY only affect W2000 which is why I bring up the OS. If you're using an OS newer than 11 years...u not experience this... ;-) !!
Recently experiencing slowdowns with images loading. Specifically GOOG or BING "images". While trying to use the scroll bar pulldown in windows ...so many photos will load...then the scroller just stops...and the page is frozen till more photos load. The entire browser freezes up. I just figured it was my OS build getting old (no viruses or spyware present).
I disabled all my addons in FFOX and re-enabled them one at a time. Screenshot pimp 6 was the problem.
Ive switched to PIXLR Grabber 2.1 and it works without issue. Only thing about PXLR ...I cant say I like the addtl entry in my right click bcus Ive accidentally gone for the GRAB instead of COPY since it appears at the top of my right click menu when I try to copy text. ALSO PIXLR asks every time where u want to save the image and once that was set using screenshot pimp...u didnt have to tell it every time. But... at least PIXLR works without freezing the browser.
    YMMV
Happy thanksgiving to all! - Dave

TYPO....was trying to say you MAY or MAY NOT experience the problem if your OS is newer than 11 years. WHERES THE EDIT BUTTON PPL?!!!
Also... forgot to add... I was having the page freeze issues in FFOX 6 7 and 8. I finally decided to track it down and found it was screenshot pimp...just to clarify.

  • Airport is causing my MacBook Pro to crash on startup

I have a MacBook Pro which I bought refurbished from Apple around May/June 2011.  It has been working fantastically for one year (of course, the length of my warantee), and immediately began experiencing problems in August of 2012.  I moved to a new apartment complex, and my charger stopped working.  Reasonably, since I had it for a year and it had experienced some wear and tear.  At first it was typical finicky behavior, not charging, wiggling the cord, etc.  Then, suddenly it began shorting out and shutting my computer down with a surge of power.  That happened about 4-5 times (the final time, it sparked), without warning as I was using the computer (this was all in the course of one night, my charger suddenly giving out).  Of course I went to the Apple store the next day, got a new one, no biggie.
That was the beginning of August, pretty much immediately after I moved into my new apt.  I almost think the outlets may have contributed to some of the problem, tbh.  Never had any problems back home.  Now, I am using the internet service provided by the complex, and my airport has developed some serious issues.  I'm not sure if it is because of the connection, because of my laptop, or a residual problem as a result of the charger shorting out, but that **** thing crashes my computer at least 5-6 times a day, without fail.
Upon opening up my comp, starting it up, or just toggling the mouse to wake it from hibernation, the airport wil dutifully search for a connection and be frozen mid-search.  One of the "bars" will get stuck and the entire thing just stops working.  Can't perform any tasks, rainbow wheel appears (only when hovered over top bar) etc.  If I wait around, the rainbow wheel will keep going for about 10 minutes and then the computer will just shut itself down.  Click, it's gone.  Gotta restart.  Usually I have to manually restart it as soon as I see that it will freeze.  Well, I wasn't positive it was just the airport crashing it, but recently I "experimented" a bit and toggled the airport to see what would happen.  Of course, after turning it off & on, it froze mid-search and crashed my computer.  Darn!
So I'm certain it's the airport causing the problem, but what do I do?  This all started directly after my warantee expired and I don't know if Apple will fix this without charging me an arm & a leg.  This sort of frequent restarting & crashing can't be good for my computer and it's a hassle for me to deal with all day.  I've tried doing some of the basic system updates (one of which was the airport, which I hoped would solve the problem, but nope).  Can any of you tech-savvy folks tell me if there is anything I can do?   If not, anyone else had this problem?  I'm struggling here, really hesitant to take it to Apple bc I'm sure they will overcharge me & I can't afford all that.
Is this the behavior of a faulty airport card?  In which case, do I just... buy a new one..?  I really don't know if I can fix this problem at home or not.  Please help!

Thank you for the reply.  I booted in recovery mode and repaired permissions and disk using disk utility.  However, this did not resolve the issue.  Each time I attempt to run this update (HT3669), my macbook pro crashes.

  • Tecra M3 video drivers causing crashes

My Toshiba Tecra M3 is crashing (freezing or blue screen of death) with drivers 71.14, 71.36, and 76.44. It uses an NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600 TE 128M. When I uninstall all video drivers (or boot into safe mode), the laptop runs fine, although of course scrolling is deadly slow and I can't suspend or hibernate. But when I install either of the two WHQL certified drivers from Toshiba's site, 71.44 or 71.36, I can consistently create a crash just by running a 3D screensaver for more than 3 minutes. The same thing happens with the 76.44 non-WHQL driver from laptopvideo2go.com.
Sorry if this is not the best thread to post on, but I would desperately appreciate any help you can offer on what driver might work reliably. At this point, I'm not at all interested in great graphics performance; I just want a stable laptop to do some work on. Is there perhaps some setting within the driver to turn off whatever fancy features are causing the crash?
The laptop has a 2.13 GHz Pentium M and 2 GB of RAM. It's running WinXP SP2 with all updates and is using BIOS 1.20, the latest. And I doubt it's a related, but here's a different problem I ran into with the VPN, Wi-Fi, and Matlab.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

    Hi danhkon
I suppose that your notebook worked properly at the beginning. Can you maybe remember since when the unit started to make these troubles to you? It is not easy to give you a proper opinion or any kind of solution because every problem is caused by some reason.
First of all I want to say that you should use just display driver given by Toshiba and not some driver that you found on the net. The drivers that you got on Tools & utilities CD or drivers that you can find on Toshiba site are all tested and they should work properly. As far as I know Tecra M3 is a new model and also delivered with SP2. That means that all drivers are also tested to work properly with SP2.
Before you spend lot of times searching the right solution you should, in my opinion, save your data and reinstall OS using Recovery CD. On this way you will have a stable laptop to do some work on it. If there is no second partition you can make it for data saving using expert mode installation.

  • Creative Drivers causing non-stop Blue Screens

    Hey Everyone,
I have a very serious problem with my Creative drivers, which is driving me absolutely crazy.
I have owned a SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Notebook for quite some time and it has been working just fine in my laptop (I'm aware that this is the SoundBlaster forum, not the PCMCIA forum, however, since this is a driver-issue, I felt that this may be the better place to ask for help). I stopped using the card for about half a year and now that I want to use it again, the drivers keep blue screening my system!
I'm pretty clueless what more I can try to make that thing work again. I've uninstalled the drivers I had on my computer and tried every single version of the drivers available from the Creative website. Somewhere in the middle of the installation process, right after the drivers were copied and the card is being initialized, the system will hang without a bluescreen and without responding to Ctrl+Alt+Del or Num Lock. So in order to prevent that from happening, I started removing the sound card from my system, right after the installer started copying the drivers. That way, at least the installation process could finish successfully. However, after restarting my system, inserting the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook, emupia2k.sys would cause an IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL stop error. As I said, this happens with ALL of the drivers available from the Creative website (v2.09.006 from 0/09/06; v2.2.0002 from 03/6/07 and v2.8.000 from 03/23/09).
Out of curiosity, I then tried daniel_k's hacked drivers from the forum. These installed fine and without crashing my system during the installation process, however, they did still crash my systemwhen sound was playing back. You could forsee an impending crash by the sound starting to get messed up, sounding digital, choppy and roboty. The bluescreen that would appear was usually caused by commonfx.sys
Now I have completely given up on Creative dirvers and started using the open source drivers from the kX project. Problem with these drivers is that they do not support the Audigy 2 ZS Notebook fully, but at least my sound card works without causing my system to bluescreen.
My plea to the community: Please give me some kind of idea what I can do to get that card working smoothly again. The Creative drivers have never been very reliable on my system, but this is just rediculous. I can't stick to the kX project drivers, since I need SPDIF output, which doesn't seem to work with those drivers.
Here is what I have already tried to fix the issue:
    - Uninstalled all traces of Creative drivers with Revo Uninstaller (using the built-in scan for leftovers)
    - Used Driver Sweeper .5.5 from Guru3D to delete leftover sys files and other Creative components - http://bit.ly/AECNY
    - Used Device Remover to delete references to the old Creative hardware from the registry - http://bit.ly/jingo
    - Scanned the registry from anything containing "Creative" or "ct" and deleted it, if I deemed it safe
    - Searched my hard dri'ves for anything referencing ct or Creative and deleted it.
    - Scanned my registry with CCleaner
    - Used the Creative Setup tool included in some of the older versions of the Creative drivers and used the driver removal feature that it has, to remove the drivers. Curiously, the tool would keep on detecting the driver, even after having removed it and performing a restart.
    My System:
I run Windows XP Tablet PC Edition, with Service Pack 3 and all updates since then. My BIOS is the latest there is (from some time in 2007) and my PCMCIA controller is a Toshiba ToPIC00. I haven't updated my BIOS, the drivers for the CardBus controller or for my chipset in the half year that I did not use the sound card in.
?Creative Developers: If you like, I can crash my system a couple more times with your drivers, and send you a full kernel memory dump! Those things are about 200 megs each, so be sure to tell me the location of an FTP server or similar, that I could use.
    Thanks for all your help

  • NVidia drivers cause system instability

    Hello,
I recently purchased an MSI 865 Neo2 FIS2R mother board.  Here is how
    I have it configured:
    o Power Supply - FSP400-60PFN 400W (3.3V/28A, 5V/40A, 12V/15A, 5VSB/2A,
    -5V/0.3A, -12V, 0.8A)
    o Processor - 2.8GHz P4
    o RAM - 2 512MB PC3200 Kingston HyperX CL2
    o RAID 0 - 2 Maxtor DiamondMax 9 Plus SATA drives.
    o Video - Aopen GF3Ti500
o Primary IDE Master - TDK Indi DVD 440N
o Secondary IDE Slave - 56X CDROM Drive
    o Floppy Drive
I installed Windows XP on the RAID without incident.  When I tried to
install the NVidia display drivers (45.23), the system became
unstable.  Specifically here is what I noticed:
o The black Windows start-up screen with the blue progress bar would
flicker between black & blue around the same spot each time.
o From the login screen, when I chose my account, it would
briefly show my desktop and then I would hear the relays in my monitor
click, the screen go black, a second click and my screen would be fine
    again.
o If I used the display properties control panel and chose the
advanced option, again, click, blackness, click, everything's OK.
o I noticed that when I tried to use Window's Media player to play a
CD, it would crash during the 2nd song.  It would crash sooner and
sooner each time I restarted it until it was crashing as soon as I
started it (assuming I didn't reboot).  After than IE would crash,
Windows Explorer might crash or the system might spontaneously reboot.
o After rebooting, the system would be less stable, with IE or Windows
explorer crashing sooner than before (without even using Media Player).
This would continue to get worse (across re-boots) until it would
start crashing while loading Windows XP.
MAT and DOT are in the default setting and I have not tried adjusting
    any voltages, etc.
If I booted in safe mode and uninstalled the display driver, everything
would return to normal and the system would run fine.  I checked the
IRQs to make sure that wasn't a problem.  I noticed a device from the
Intel Chipset and the VGA card were both sharing IRQ 16.  I don't know
much about this (including how to change an IRQ) so I tried disabling
the Intel device (it dealt with the USB and I have no USB devices
currently attached).  The system didn't seem to mind having that device
disabled.  I reinstalled the display drivers, but the system behaved
    exactly the same.
I also tried stepping down to the 44.03 version of the drivers but
they actually made the system worse (my screen split in half and
    things turned purple!).
I also tried swapping between the GF3Ti500 and a GeForce4 MMX 440 The
only difference is that while starting windows, the monitor would
briefly go black instead of flickering between black and blue.  Both
cards run fine in my old machine, an MSI NForce mobo, using the
    45.23 drivers.
Since the problems usually started when I was using Media Player, I
tried disabling the sound device.  The system seemed to run fine (with
the exception of the monitor clicking).  I could play movies with the
media player, browse with IE, etc. with no crashes.  I couldn't find
any resources conflicts between the sound and the vga card.
Windows trouble shooter suggested updating the mobo BIOS.  I was
previously running 1.3. I tried updating to 1.7.  The reflash seemed
to go fine.  But when I rebooted, all I got was a black screen (no
beep).  I looked at the D-Bracket and noticed that it was stuck on the
RTC test.  I don't think that's the problem.  The next step is
initialization of the video system.  I tried the emergency recovery
procedure (with the 1.7 BIOS).  It worked, but still the screen
remained black, stuck on the same test.
How do I get (either) video card to work?  And should I just leave the
system flashed to 1.7, or try to use the emergency recovery program to
    get back to 1.3?
    Thanks in advance!

Hey Guys.  Thanks for the help.  I don't doubt that the NVidia drivers are fine, they're just part of the puzzle.  Just to be sure, I got a new PSU.  Here are it's specs:
    +5V/40A, +12V/24A, +3.3V/32A, -5V/-0.5A, -12V/1.0A, +5V SB/2A, max load 530W.
As I mentioned earlier, I had tried updating the BIOS to 1.7, after which it sticks on the RTC test (see my original post for details).  After installing the new PSU, it still stuck on the RTC test.  I tried reflashing to 1.3, but now the memory test is failing.  Does that seem right?  The RTC test is after the memory test, so why should reflashing to 1.3 cause a memory failure?  I'm assuming the reflash didn't work correctly.  If I can get it to work (fingers crossed) I'll let you know what happens.

  • Reinstalling Airport drivers

    Hi -
I have a regular BootX boot time kernal panic which i have traced to the attempt to load AirPort Exteme drivers in 10.4.2. What is odd is that after a reboot (or cold boot), I get a KP, have to restart, and my PB is then fine. In other words it only fails every other boot, like clockwork. Booting Commmand-V shows the panic occurs in loading Airport driver.
So I would like to remove and reinstall the drivers. Can anyone advise 1) where I can get the latest drivers/kext files and 2) what I need to do to reinstall?
    Many thx.

The latest drivers are provided by Airport 4.2:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport42formacosx1042.html
If installing Airport 4.2 fails to solve the problem (which is highly likely), I suspect that only an archive and reinstall of MacOS 10.4 will be necessary to solved your problem.

  • AirPort Extreme Causes WinXP to Restart

I installed a new AirPort Extreme yesterday in compatabiity mode.
    1. Works perfectly with my MacBook.
    2. Works perfectly with my WinXP laptop.
    3. Causes my WinXP desktop (freshly installed) to restart when attempting to connect to the network... every time.
There is no error message or blue screen... just a sudden restart. I suspect it is a compatibility issue with the Linksys WMP11 wireless network adapter and installed the latest driver from Linksys.
Are there any settings that need to be changed to correct this?

    Thanks for the welcome.
In a sense, it is an AEBS issue as the Linksys adapter works with other routers. The problem began with the introduction of the AEBS into the network.
As in marriage counseling, the issue is not with one or the other but between the two (not that I would know).
