Visual Studio licence required?

Is it possible to use the Oracle tools with one of the "free" Visual Studio distributions?  If so, could it be used as an alternative development environment for SQL Developer?
thanks,
Michael

Oracle Developer Tools will not work with Visual Studio Express Edition since that edition does not allow "Add-ins".
So the answer is yes, you need a Visual Studio license to do what you are requesting. You can still use the Express Edition if you are only hand coding .NET code that uses ODP.NET.

    Hello There, I have Genuine Visual Studio 2013 Professional Licence. I am using it in the Windows 10 Technical Preview Virtual machine ( Parallels ) on my mac. When Microsoft will release final build of windows 10, I am gonna buy it. and install it as a
    clean new virtual machine. I want to revoke my current licence from this VM so that I can use same licence on new VM. Do simple uninstallation from this VM, removes licence ? Is there any online revocation Process ? please help. Thank You.

    Hi,
    According to the Visual Studio and MSDN Licensing White Paper:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13350
    Visual Studio Professional are licensed on a per-user basis. You are allowed to install Visual Studio on just about any number of machines where you are the single user of the software:
    All MSDN subscriptions and Visual Studio Professional are licensed on a per-user basis. Each licensed user may install and use the software on any number of devices to design, develop, test, and demonstrate their programs. MSDN subscriptions
    also allow the licensed user to evaluate the software and to simulate customer environments in order to diagnose issues related to your programs. Each additional person who uses the software in this way must also have a license.

  • Visual Studio/ Oracle set up with both local and remote database

    Hi, I am developing a database application in Visual Studio 2010, and have installed Oracle Database 11g Express on the same pc - (Windows 7, 64bit).
    Now I am faced with what I need to install next: I've seen that Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio is required/recommended, but as it comes as part of the ODAC suite, it asks if I want to install the client or server version. Which should it be?
    And would the situation change if I also needed to connect to a remote (Oracle 10g) database? I'm keen to avoid having tnsnames files all over the place, if at all possible, but would I need a separate Oracle client installation in either case?
    Many thanks,
    Nick

    Hi,
    Are you actually going to drag and drop things from Server Explorer, and or use Sever Explorer to create/edit/debug stored procedures and such? If so, you'll need (32 bit) Oracle Developer Tools installed, and you'll need to install it into a separate home from the Express home.
    If you're just going to "hand code" ODP.NET, you can use the ODP.NET that installs in the Express home. Note though that in VS2010, projects default to compile target of "x86", so to run a 64 bit app with the 64 bit ODP/client (assuming you installed 64 bit db home), you'll need to change it to x64.
    You can connect from ODP.NET without tnsnames via the EZConnect version of the connect string.. ie,"data source=//serverhost:port/db_service_name; user id...etc.."
    You can use 11g client against a 10g database.
    Hope it helps,
    Greg

  • What are the requirements in terms of system drive for visual studio 2013

    According to this thread "visualstudio.uservoice.com/forums/121579-visual-studio/suggestions/2120283-allow-users-to-install-entirely-to-another-hard-dr"  it is not possible to install visual studio fully on another drive rather that
    the system drive. This link "visualstudio.com/products/visual-studio-professional-with-msdn-vs#Fragment_SystemRequirements" states the system requirement for visual studio pro 2013. However can somebody clarify what is needed in terms of system drive
    requirement e.g. out of the 20 gb, how much is needed on the system drive.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Exact space required will vary widely based on installation components chosen and what you may have already installed on your system.
    And When you install your VS in another Drive and run the VS installer, you can see system requirement in installation screen.
    Because my work computer only have C Drive, I test the VS2012 professional installation in my home computer E drive. The Screen below:
    I think the system requirement can also display when you install  VS 2013.

  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 runtime LICENCE

    I want to welcome everyone. It's my first post on this forum.
    I want to provide my Windows Form application to a client. This application was written in VS 2010 and it uses SAP Crystal Reports for generating simple report.
    I've read [Crystal Reports Licensing Explained|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/10cd9e15-120d-2c10-3fb5-be299000b6b7&utm_source=crvs2010&utm_medium=lp&utm_campaign=licensing_explained] pdf and I've learnt that in my case redistribution of software that embeds the Crystal Reports runtime engine is free.
    My question is:
    Is there something else I must include in my application package for instance a licence file? Or maybe I just have to include SAP CR runtime or ask user to download it from the SAP web site and that's it?
    Marcin

    Hello Marcin,
    Welcome.
    Please note that whenever you distribute your application (which uses Crystal reports) to others who may not have Crystal designer product, you need to provide the runtimes along with the application. The runtimes provide the necessary dlls in the machine for running Crystal inside the app.
    You can use an exe to install the CR runtimes and then deploy your app. OR you can include the msm files and create a deployment package.
    You will get the runtimes for CR4VS2010 [here|/people/coy.yonce/blog/2010/11/12/crystal-reports-for-visual-studio-2010-production-release-now-availableCystlR%2528SAPWeblogs%253ACrystal+Reports%2529].

  • Licencing of Windows 8.1, SQL Server and Visual Studio

    1. Windows 8 (OEM Version)
        a. Is it legal to re-install Windows 8 OEM version on a PC (this might

        b. Can I continue to use same Windows 8 OEM version even after upgrading
    a PC (for example change of processor, change of hard disk, change of RAM etc.)
    2. SQL Server (Developer and Express) Version:
       a. Your site mentions that SQL Server Developer edition can be used for

        a. Is it legal to use Visual Studio Express Edition for software development

    I had emailed this query to [email protected] yesterday but I have not received any reply.

    This question is a bit broad for a forum post. What have you tried and where does it fail? This code will give a list of files in an app folder. It might get you started: [c# code, but should be easy to translate to VB]
    public async Task<List<string>> GetFileListFromFolder() {
    List<string> fileList = new List<string>();
    StorageFolder storageFolder = await Package.Current.InstalledLocation.GetFolderAsync(@"myFolder\");
    foreach (StorageFile fl in await storageFolder.GetFilesAsync())
    fileList.Add(fl.Name);
    return fileList;

  • Visual Studio Ultimate is required to execute test.

    I'm trying to run a Load Test using VS2013 Ultimate but VS keeps telling me I'm not :)  Snip is attached. I try to run a fairly simple Load Test, GET call against a single web page. Using Constant Load, 5 users, 20 iterations. The individual
    Web Test runs fine. I'm running from my dev box so Admin, Controller and Agent all on same machine. Machine is Windows Server 2012 R2
    Exact error is "Visual Studio Ultimate is required to execute test."
    I'm signed in, my profile looks right and my subscriptions are good. What am I missing? Whats going on here?

    Hi rlakin,
    Thanks for your posting in the MSDN forum.
    As you said that the Test Controller and Agent are in the same machine, I think you run your load test with them, am  I right? If so, how about run your test locally wihtout using the Test Controller and Test Agent. For example, just disable the
    .testsettings file, run it again.
    If it still has this issue, how about running it in other VS machine? If the same test works well in other VS, I doubt that it is your VS IDE issue.
    In addition, Where did you get this VS2013 version? Maybe you could re-download it from the official site, test it again.
    http://www.visualstudio.com/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs
    If possible, please also install the VS2013 update 4.

  • Does creating a labview dll from simulink model require visual studio

    I've asked the same question at the Simulink forums, but maybe someone here has the answer:
    I'm trying to perform this process here:
    http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3447
    However, I get the following errors from the Simulink Real Time Workshop:
    Error building Real-Time Workshop target for block diagram 'SensorCAN_sfcn'. MATLAB error message:
    Error using ==> setup_for_visual>LocIssueMSDevError at 324
    Invalid setting for environment variable MSDevDir or DevEnvDir.
    The setting is: ''
    You can verify the setting by checking for the existence of:
      %DevEnvDir%\..\tools\vsvars32.bat          (for Visual C/C++ 7.1)
      %MSDevDir%\..\..\vc98\bin\vcvars32.bat     (for Visual C/C++ 6.0)
      %DevEnvDir%\..\tools\vsvars32.bat          (for Visual C/C++ 8.0)
    I do not use Visual C, what little programming I do has been done in Borland Builder or with command line gcc.  Is there any way to make simulink look for a different dev environment?  Or does this process require Visual C?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thanks, I've got SIT 5.0 installled, but it turns out we have a site license for VS 2008, so I now have that as well.  I've got a new problem though, and although I think it's related to Simulink, these forums seems a little more responsive than that Matlab forums. So....
    I’m working with someone else's s-code, and I haven't used Simulink in the past. As I said in my original post, I am attempting to use SIT to turn the s-code into a dll for use in a LabView RT application. I opened the mdl file in Simulink, and I’m now trying to build the LabView dll in the Simulink Real Time Workshop.  The target file is nidll.tlc and Matlab starts the SIT when launched, so it appears the tools are aware of each other.  However, when I attempt to build the dll, I get the following error:
    fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'rtlibsrc.h': No such file or directory
    I’m using the following: Matlab 2008b, SIT 5.0, and MS Visual Studio 2008, so the libraries and includes should be fairly up to date. What I don't get is that the files that are calling for this include are auto-generated by Simulink, so I don't know why it's not finding the rtlibsrc.h. Still, I found that in the RTW subdirectory, and copied it into my local directory. This gives me a different error:
    ### Linking ...

       Creating library SensorCAN_sfcn.lib and object SensorCAN_sfcn.exp
    SensorCAN0_sf.obj : error LNK2019: unresolved external symbol _rt_Lookup referenced in function _mdlOutputs
    Again, self-generated code, now with unresolved external symbols? I'm assuming that I'm linking the wrong version of a dll or obj that contains mdlOutputs, which appears to be something from Matlab. Can anyone point me in the correct direction? Missing headers and incorrect libraries lead me to believe that I've got a search path issue somewhere, but the Matlab/Simulink/LabView/Visual Studio are all fresh default installs.

  • Javascript - Object required error for visual studio 2010

    Hi - I have downloaded the crystal report RTM for visual studio 2010.
    My App server is windows 2008.
    We are using crystal reports as part of CRM application
    I am getting  javascript error 'Object Required'  at the following line:
    The debugger after the error message refers to this:
    bobj.crv.stateManager.setComponentState('ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder2_CrystalReportViewer1__UI',eval('('document.getElementById('__CRYSTALSTATEctl00$ContentPlaceHolder2$CrystalReportViewer1').value')'));
    The website has all the required aspnet_client files and have made sure the application is able to load them.
    When tried with a new sample solution the reports work.
    Please help. I need to make the crystal reports work with the CRM solution...

    I am assuming this is happening after you have deployed your app and that the app works as expected on your development computer(?). Please confirm...
    I need you to tell me the following:
    1) how was the app compiled; any cpu, 32 bit, 64 bit?
    2) how was the CR runtime deployed (what MSI / MSM did you use?)?
    3) if this app is installed under custom app pool see the following:
    Deploy the CrystalReportViewers13 virtual directory as a sub-directory of your application.
    Copy the Crystalreportviewers13 folder to be a sub-folder at the root of your application. You can configure where your application looks for this folder by using the following Help file [SAP Crystal Reports .NET SDK Developer Guide
    |http://help.sap.com/businessobject/product_guides/sapCRVS2010/en/crnet_dg_2010_en.zip] and search the document for ("web.config";). In the section "Configuring your web.config file" follow the instructions specified for setting the resourceURI attribute. This way you can control updates to the viewers when deploying your application.
    Note the resourceURI value is the name of the viewers directory and should be preceded with a Tilde
    ie value="~/crystalreportviewers13"
    Also, have a look at the following two articles. Both are pre CRVS2010, however the ideas re. deploying to a custom app pool still apply. All that changes is the folder name.

  • Known Issue: Visual Studio Tools for Universal Windows Apps Requires Windows 10 Build 10074 or later (Windows 10 Insider Preview SDK and tools, April 2015 release)

    The Visual Studio Tools for Universal Windows Apps requires Windows 10 build 10074 or later. If you use an earlier build of Windows 10, you will see a notification in Visual Studio, the XAML designer will not be available, and you will get the following
    error when deploying apps to your local machine:
    Error : DEP0700 : Registration of the app failed. Deployment Register operation with target volume C: on Package

    To work around this issue, either
    Use Windows 8.1 and deploy to the Windows Mobile Emulator
    Or, update your computer from an earlier Windows 10 flight to build 10074 or later. To do this,
    in Settings, open the Update & security section, and select the

  • How to remove or hide toolbar context menu in visual studio IDE

    Hi All,
    Currently we are extending Visual studio and it's functionality.
    As we know, we can have different categories of tool bars like standard, build, debug etc shown in pic -
    or we can access the categories via -  View Main Menu -> Toolbars
    Basically My requirement is that, I don't want to show these options (Build, Debug, Debug Location, Layout, customize , Text Editor, Standard etc) shown in context menu or shown in submenu.
    How can I achieve it ? Please advice.

    AFAIK, you can only customize it manually, but can't hide the builtin menus:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/vstudio/wdee4yb6(v=vs.100).aspx
    or maybe you can try vsct:

  • Visual Studio 2012: Can't access Sharepoint Web Services because of Discovery Credentials Prompt

    Hi.
    I've exactly the same problem that is descripted
    here, so I'll add its description here.
    My SharePoint is 2010
    I am trying to access the web services that are located in this url:
    http://<part_of_th_url_omitted>/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx. I have no problem accessing
    this URL using my broswer, that is, when I type the URL and my browser's address bar and press enter, I can see the list of the services that are available. I encounter no problem by accessing this site through my browser at all.
    However, when I try to access the services from that URL (http://<part_of_the_url_omitted>/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx),
    a Discovery Credential Dialog box prompts me for my username and password. SO what I do is I enter my username and password that I used to access the sharepoint using my browser, the problem is, the dialog box doesn't seem to accept the username and password
    that I enter as the dialog box is keep on appearing.
    Below are the detailed steps on how I go about in adding the Web Services.
    1. From the Solution Explorer, I right click on the "Service References" folder.
    2. From the context menu that appears, I Click on "Add Service Reference...". The "Add Service Reference" Dialog box will appear.
    3. From the "Add Service Reference" dialog box, I click on the "Advanced,,," button which can be seen at the bottom-left of the dialog
    box. The "Service Reference Settings" Dialog box will appear.
    4. From the "Service Reference Settings" dialog box, I click on the "Add Web Reference..." dialog box. The "Add Web Reference"
    Dialog box will appear. This is the dialog box where I can type the URL of the service that I want to access. So I type "http://<part_of_the_url_omitted>/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx".
    AFter typing that, I click on the Go button (which is the green arrow button at the right of the address bar of this dialog box).
    5. After doing that, a prompt dialog box will appear which has the title "Windows Security" and it is aking for my username and password. SO
    what I do is I enter the Username and the Password that I use in accessing the sharepoint site (http://<part_of_the_url_omitted>/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx)
    6. The prompt seems to accept the Username and Password, but after that, a new dialog box appeared with the title "Discovery Credential" and
    it says "The Service 'http://<part_of_the_url_omitted>/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx' requires a username and
    password". SO what I do is I enter again the un and pw that I use to access the sharepoint site, the one that I used inm the previous dialog box.
    7 After entering the username and the password and clicking the OK button. The dialog box reappears still asking for a username and a password, but this
    time, it shows a different message. It says "The Service 'http://<part_of_the_url_omitted>/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx/$metadata'
    requires a username and password". SO it really, what oonly changed is the URL, it has now the $metadata at the end. What do I do? I eneter the username and password again.
    8. After clicking Ok again, the dialog box reappears, now it says "The Service 'http://<part_of_the_url_omitted>/_layouts/1033/error.aspx'
    requires a username and password." Now it shows a very different username. Of ocurse, I still type in the username and password and click Ok.
    9. after doing that, the dialog box reappears again and it shows the same message as in step 6. So I do steps 6, 7 and 8 in a loop.
    10. When I finally get tired of entering the username and password, I click on cancel. The message box reappears again. So I click on cancel again. After
    doing that, I can then, surprisingly, see the list of the web services. However, not surprisingly, I still can't use it because the "Add Reference" button which I need to click in order to use the Web services is disabled. So I can only see the list
    of the services but I can't use it.

    Hi Gaston,
    I would suggest you the following thread, check whether it meet your scenario, it shows that if you have set IE options to remember the username and password, and you have enter wrong password before, this issue may happen:

  • Visual Studio 2013 WP Emulator not working after adding more RAM

    After a few days I installed VS 2013 on my laptop which had 3GB RAM and got notified by visual studio that I need at least 4 GB for hardware virtualization. Now I have 6GB RAM and Hyper-V restarted and VS still doesn't recognize my new RAM and doesn't give
    me an option to run the WP emulator.
    Did any of you had a problem/solution with this?
