VM Server 3.0.2 -Unable to add servers to new server pool

Hello everyone,
Please forgive me if I'm missing something obvious. I am new to Oracle VM, and just setting up a test platform for the first time. (used virtualbox before).
I have a network environment that has 2 VM servers, 1 VM Manager (all 3 machines running on separate physical boxes). I have a 70Gb SAN share connecting with iSCSI from a freenas host. I have been able to see both VM servers as unmanaged, and can see the SAN share as Unmanaged iSCSI Storage Array. It let me create a test server pool, and allocate the SAN share as an available resource. When I attempt to add either of the VM Servers to the pool, I get the following job failure with error:

I have tried rebooting, rediscovering both servers, which complete successfuly. I just can't seem to get them to join any server pool that I create.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Many thanks in advance,
Jim

I'm not seeing any specific reason for the error in that output, which is annoying.
Also, double-check that DNS is working across all the machines: the Manager and the two Servers need to be able to resolve the hostnames of everything else on the network, so if you don't have DNS fully configured, you'll need to edit the /etc/hosts of all three machines first.

  • Unable to add caldav/carddav server

    Hi,
We purchased a z10 recently because we read it supported caldav/carddav.
But we are unable to get it working,
The server is functioing fine and our macs, windows, ios and androids all work fine with the current setup but our new Z10 is giving errors.
When we connect via http we always get the error that our login details have been changed or are incorrect.
When we c onnect via https we always get the error the server is online (default message).
We tried adding the port to the url, we tried adding the direct path to the calendars (url/calendars/username/) but nothing seems to work. We already contacted the store where we purchased it and they suggested to take it back and offered us a new androids devices but we like the device and really want to be able to get it working. But caldav/carddav is a dealbreaker for us.
    Anyone any suggestions?
    Our caldav/carddav is using sabredav.

     Some questions:
Are there any other databases running on this Std Edition SQL service?
[a] Yes there are, we have Kaspersky enterprise DB, Report Server DB and local application DB.
Are there any other services running on this WSUS Server?
[b] Yes there are, we have Active Directory, Kaspersky enterprise, SQL Server 2005, and WSUS all on the same server.
How many days since your WSUS server was first installed?
    [c] It's been about a year now.
What is the physical size of the SUSDB.mdf file?
    [d] 9,666,752 KB
What is the hardware configuration of this machine, including disk drives?
    [e] Intel Xeon 1.86, 2GB Ram, HD C: 39GB - E: 25.2, running Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2.
How many client systems are you servicing from this WSUS Server?
    [f] Around 40.
    What products/classifications are you synchronizing.
    [g] Windows XP-vista, Windows Server 2003, Office 2003-2007, SQL Server 2005.
Okay, for starters, you have an underpowered/overextended machine running Active Directory, ASP.NET, and a database server, all on a sub 2GHz CPU with 2GB RAM, and not enough disk spindles. The machine has had WSUS running for about a year and is 9GB in size.
There's no doubt in my mind that some of your performance issues are directly related to disk and database fragmentation.
There's also no doubt that some of your performance issues are directly related to memory starvation.
I'd suggest the following long-term fixes:
    1. Get a second machine. Make it a dedicated database server. Provision it accordingly to support servicing multiple database applications.
    2. Lacking #1, this machine needs more memory. It also needs more disk spindles. At a minimum the databases being serviced should be on a dedicated physical drive; ideally there would be two dedicated drives allocated for supporting database services. The
For the short-term fixes, do this:
    1. During after-hours time, if you don't already have one, build a temporary machine that can act as a DC/GC, while you take this machine temporarily offline.
    1. Shutdown the Update Services service, SQL Server database engine, and any other services dependent on the SQL Server database engine (Kapersky, and other reporting applications). Disconnect from the network to temporarly eliminate DC traffic. (You could also shutdown the AD services, but disconnecting the network cable is ever-so-much easier.) Defragment ALL drives.
    2. Restart ONLY the SQL Server service. Obtain this SQL script to Reindex the WSUS Databases.
    3. Restart ONLY the Update Services service. Attempt the Server Cleanup Wizard again. Run it in two passes. Pass 1 performing everything except  remove unused updates. Pass 2 running only remove unused updates.
    4. After completion of the Server Cleanup Wizard, reconnect the machine to the network and resume all other services.
    5. If you're able to complete #3, secure the services of a well-qualified DBA to determine if there are any misconfigurations in your SQL Server setup that would account for why your WSUS database is 9GB in size -- such as improperly configured autogrowth parameters. Based on the products you're updating and only forty clients, 9GB is about 3x the maximum size I would expect to see in a WSUS database. It's possible this is simply caused by excess unused updates, it's possible it's caused by fragmentation, it's probable it was caused by unnecessary autogrowth of the database due to insufficient update maintenance. You'll want a DBA to assist you in shrinking that database after you successfully run the Database Maintenance and Server Cleanup Wizard.

    Hi Brain,
Yes you are correct. I am trying to achieve this by manually deleting the all hidden .svn folder from the workspace. Now I am getting the Versioning-->Import Files option for the workspace. Still in between the process of importing the files to new SVN. Is it the correct approach, or any one has other approach to do it.?

  • Add New Server with Configtool Questions

    Hello All,
We are running EP7 SP12 on W2K3 with 16GB RAM and 4 CPUs.
As part of one the Go Live checks done to the system a while back, it was recommended that we increase the number of Server processes to the instance.
So, I followed the information here (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/68/dcde416fb3c417e10000000a155106/frameset.htm) to add 3 additional servers to the instance.  When I restarted the J2EE engine, it basically sat there in a 'Starting Apps' status.  I waited about 2 hours before I stopped the startup process.  I went back into Configtool and did a 'Remove Server' on the last, Server3, process and restarted J2EE.  This time, everything did start OK, but now I have a few questions I hope someone can answer.
    1.  Is there a limit to the number of Server processes that can exist in a single instance?  If not, what would cause the J2EE servers to essentially hang on startup although they didn't look hung, just extremely slow starting up.
    2.  I thought when you did the initial 'Add Server' it was supposed to create a duplicate Server process.  But, when I check the directory structures of the newly created Server processes, they aren't anywhere close to being the same as the original Server0 process.  For example, we have a custom redirect in place when people logon to the Portal, but this wasn't transferred/copied to the new Server1 or Server2.  The same was true for other customizations.  Also, when looking at the structure, Server0 has approx 80,000 files and 15,000 sub-folders.  When looking at the new Server1 & Server2, they are both different in size in both files and folders in respect to each other and compared to Server0.  Shouldn't they all be the same?
    3.  A follow up to question 2.  If they aren't the same and they are supposed to be the same, can we just copy the missing files & folders from Server0 to the new Servers?
    4.  Lastly, since I did a 'Remove Server' in Configtool for Server3, it does not appear in the MMC when the J2EE engine starts.  This I expect.  But, it did not remove the directory structure for Server3.  If I try to manually delete the Server3 directory, it simply says it is in use and won't let me delete the structure.  So, is it safe to delete this structure since it isn't being used anymore?  If so, I'll stop SAP and delete the structure offline.  Do I have to do any database cleanup once I do this?  If so, can someone point me to some documentation as to what needs to cleaned up in the DB and how?
    Thanks,
    Tom

    Thanks for the info.
Interesting though.  I open a message with SAP and posed these same questions.  Their response was similar to yours, but it opened up a whole new set of questions.  What follows is the text of that message for others to benefit from (clipped for clarity):
SAP's response to the original set of questions posted here:
    =====================
....1.Number of server nodes depends upon the CPU speed.J2EE Engine
can support upto 21 server nodes in a intance.
If number of server nodes is big,it will slow down the startup process.
2.When you create the "New Server"its not the dublicate server.
Its a new server. You can not copy mising files from one server to other
J2EE engine syncronises the server nodes in the instance.
3.Yes.You need to manually delete the file system.Configtool deletes

was true for other customizations. Also, when looking at the structure,
Server0 has approx 80,000 files and 15,000 sub-folders. When looking at
the new Server1 & Server2, they are both different in size in both
files and folders in respect to each other and compared to Server0.
Shouldn't they all be the same?"
    You replied:
"2.When you create the "New Server"its not the dublicate server.
Its a new server. You can not copy mising files from one server to other
J2EE engine syncronises the server nodes in the instance."
But, from actual experience, it does NOT synchronize the nodes, rather
    it is a partial synchronization.
So, are the following staements true:
-When a new server process is added, ONLY standard SAP delivered files
& folders are synchronized. True or False?
-No custom files/folders are synnchronized. True or False?
-Custom values, whether part of standard SAP deliverables or custom
deliverables, are NOT synchronized. True or False?
-Each server node needs to be configured independently. True or False?
The reason I'm asking such specific questions is because of what we are
seeing. I'll use the same example from before. We modified the
index.html file for the Portal in Server0. When we added the new
server nodes, this index.html file was not synchronized. Instead, the
default index.html file was created for the new server nodes. That is
an example at the file level. Here is an example from a configuration
perspective. In Server0, in the Visual Admin tool, we have a TREX
server specified in TREX service properties. When the new server nodes
were created, this setting was NOT transferred. Therefore, TREX didn't
work until I specifically went back into VA and added the TREX settings
to the new server nodes. This is a major problem and opens up three
    more questions:
1.How do we know what settings were transferred vs. those that weren't
    transferred?
2.Also, if you can't copy missing files/folders from one server to
another, then how are we supposed to get those files/folders into the
    new server(s)?
    3. Is there a way to do a comparison between the server nodes to see
    what settings are missing?.....

    SAP's reply:

    NO there is no way.

You need to deploy the appliactions again on the new server.

    No there is no way......
    ======================
So, although I really didn't have the answers I was looking for, I confirmed the message.  It seems ludicrous to me that there is no way of doing a comparison or manual synch between two server nodes.  Also, I can't believe you have to configure each node independently let alone when you do a deployment you now have to deploy to each server individually, of which I haven't found any docs explaining how to do that.  So if someone here has a suggestion I'd appreciate it.  Although at this point, given the fact the server nodes are so out of synch as to make them almost unusable, we might just delete them all and go back to one node, although I don't want to have to do that.

  • How to add a second DNS server entry

Our primary DNS server is having problems (internal system) - we want to keep its listing on our mac server however. We need to add a second DNS server - we don't care what it is, we might want to add 2 additional servers - one internal and one external (google dns for example).
How do we do this through server admin? Thank you.

Solved. Added entreis in DNS section of Server Admin. Adjusted DNS entry in network section of system prefs to reflect loopback address. Stopped and restarted DNS. Thanks.

  • Adding another Search Node to a new server

    Hello,
I have a new server on which I would like to install the WCI search service, and disable the current one on the server that has the search on it. The reason is to take load off the existing server.
I ran the WCI installer on the new server and just installed the search service - and left it defaulted - it is called node01 on port 15250. But in the Cluster manager I cannot add the new node.
I tried changing the name of the server to the new server name, but kept the node and port the same - but it won't add.
    i.e
Node Name Host Name Port Partition
    serverA01 serverA.com 15250 0
    serverB01 serverB.com 15250 0 <----this won't add
    I get:
The number of partitions did not change
The number of nodes changed for partition 0
This can be an expensive repartition operation
    and I see:
    Starting off repartitionCmd

It seems like I have to reimport the cluster.pte to make it work. The it forces the Hostname to ServerB.com. But I can't have two search nodes with different servers?
    Is this correct?
    Thanks,

    V,
Actually, I was asking, if (when you installed the second node), you specified a shared location for the cluster files. It is a screen in the installer that specifically asks this question. Not well docuemented :|
Typically the easiest course, when moving a search server, is to delete the old installation of search server, install a new node from scratch, point the portal at its URL, and run Search Repair (overnight or over the weekend, with Verbose logging).
I have some notes to share on scaling a search server if you eMail me privately, [email protected]

  • Break cluster and move databases to new server

Hello everyone.  I have a question that may be basic but I am by no means a SQL person.  Right now we have a SQL 2005 cluster running on VM ESXi with a celerra backend storage.  Some drives are mapped Raw.  We recently put in a new
VNX and we are not able to migrate the SQL server over due to how the drives are mapped.  I am thinking that I want to build a new SQL server and move the databases.  The new build will not be a cluster since we have point in time recovery manager
from EMC.  Now my thinking is, can I break the cluster, move the 2nd node to the new ESXi and storage and present new storage or would it be best to just build a new server?  Is it easy enough to change an instance name after SQL is running?
Several applications refer to the SQL Cluster and they are critical so I need something with least amount of downtime.  Would doing backup of all of SQL and then a restore to the new system be best?  Any thoughts or direction?  Thanks
    Joe M

The most straightforward and reliable method is to build a new server, migrate the databases using backup/restore, test the new server, and cut-over by shutting down the old servers and either reconfiguring the client applications or renaming the new server
to have the same network name as the old server's SQL Cluster Client Access point.
You can also use DNS redirection instead of renaming the new server, although using a DNS hostname alias for your server requires some additional security configuration.  EG

  • Restore SharePoint Database to new server - What to do about external content type?

I currently run SharePoint 2010 and have a content database back-up which I want to restore to a new server.
I was able to restore to a new server and everything seems to be working, except that I have one list in my previous site which had an external content type in it linking to a database for our ERP system. The ERP system's database will also be located on
the new server (same as the new location for the content database). How do I link the external content type from my list to the new location of the ERP database?
One thing which I've tried is to create a new BDC and set up a new external content type within the list. That seems to point to the new location just fine, except that I would have to remap all every single item in the list individually.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You will need to modify your BCS Model to reflect the new location of your ERP database. Another option is to use SQL Aliases, which will allow SharePoint to think the new location is still by the old name.
    http://mmman.itgroove.net/2012/07/setting-up-a-sql-server-alias-with-sharepoint-server-2010/
This is assuming that you are retiring the old database server.

  • Report deployed to new server does not display static image

    Hi,
We have several web sites on a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, SP1, 64-bit.  It has installed .NET Framework 4 Client Profile and Extended, ver. 4.0.30319 (according to Control Panel->Programs, as well as c:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework).  Two of the sites use many Crystal Reports, most of which include a static image as a logo. This image is embedded in each report; there is no stand-alone image file that gets deployed.
Recently, we migrated to a new server, running the same version of Windows & .NET Framework.  As near as we can tell, the 2 servers are nearly identical, as far as configuration and permissions, etc. One notable exception is the DefaultAppPool, which is Classic on the original server and Integrated on the new. (When I changed the new server to Classic, the apps failed to run properly.)  The other exception is the old server is on a stand-alone box, while the new server is a virtual machine.
For one of the apps on the new server, the embedded logo images are not displaying on the page.  Instead, there is a little red X with the word "Image".  For the other app on the new server, the reports display fine.  Furthermore, if I copy one of the "broken" rpt files from the "broken" app to the "good" app, the report displays correctly!  And of course, the same file displays correctly in all circumstances on the old server.
This suggests to me that there is not a problem with the report file, per se', but rather with the environment to which it is deployed.  Permissions?  If so, where?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

The search string 'crystal red x net' (search box in top right corner) should return a number of KBAs, docs, blogs, etc. See if any of those help.

  • Moving Exchange from old server to completely new server

    Hello All,
I hope to get some good pointers here.  I currently have Exchange server 2007 SP1 running today.  The server is old and the warranty just expired.  I have been given permission to buy a new server and migrate to it.  I have the new server
up and running with Exchange 07 SP1 installed.  I am looking for the best way to migrate and move users from one server, to the new one and decommission the old one.  The storage is    Are there any special steps I need to take?  Do
I need to do any ADPrep to tell AD to use the new server?   I've tried looking for a guide or a how-to but all I have found are vague and brief ways to install Exchange server, but not to migrate from one server to a new one. These are two separate
    physical servers btw.
edit -  I forgot to mention that the exchange store is on a SAN via iSCSI
    Thank you,
    David

    David,
Moving exchange in ten easy steps:
1.Bring up a new server as a new server in the same site. Use a different name for the new server. If you need to move Exchange to another server with the same name, follow the instructions in the Microsoft article “XADM: How to Move Exchange Server to a
New Computer with the Same Name” (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q155/2/16.asp).
2.To move user mailboxes to the new server, start Microsoft Exchange Administrator, click Tools, and select Move Mailbox. You can move all the mailboxes at once, one at a time, or several at a time. In many cases, you can move mailboxes during working hours
because each user is locked out of his or her mailbox only while that mailbox is being moved.
3.Create replicas of the public folders on the new server. When the contents of the folders have been replicated (do wait a little while!), remove the folders from the old server.
4.Create new connectors on the new servers. Change the costs of the old connectors you're replacing to be higher than the new ones, then recalculate routing.
5.Create mail exchanger (MX) records pointing to the new Internet Mail Service (IMS) as appropriate, and change the cost on the old MX record so that it’s higher than the costs on the new records. When you’ve verified that messages are flowing across the
new connectors, remove the old ones, then recalculate routing again.
6.Follow the steps in the Microsoft article “XADM: How to Remove the First Exchange Server in a Site” (http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q152/9/59.asp) if the server
you're replacing is the first one in the site.
7.Leave the old server up for a while to give Messaging API (MAPI) clients time to connect to the new server automatically ( the old server provides referrals to the new one). It's true—you don't have to reconfigure MAPI clients!
8.Tell POP3 and IMAP4 users how to reconfigure their clients to point to the new server.
9.If you have a WINS or DNS alias for the old server, point it to the new server.
10.Stop the Exchange services on the old server, then use Exchange Administrator to delete the old server's server object, thus removing it from the site.
I hope that helps you out.
