  • Are you really spoilt as a developer if you are using BEA Workshop?:)

    Hi everybody,
Sorry if my question may bother you and there is not the appropriate place to post it, but none of my colleagues or friends are using BEA, so there is nobody else with whom I can share this thoughts.
I am a graduate student and I am trying to accomplish my thessis in Web Services Security. The fact that I chose to use BEA was a book about securing Web services and there was mentioned BEA.
Everything was fine till today when I had a discussion with my professors and showing them the application and how BEA Workshop works I received as a comment "you got spoilt with this platform".
I should confess that I don't have experince as a programmer and using other web application platforms, but if something like this is done, I don't understand why I should choose the hard way to accomplish something, why I have to write many lines of code?
Any comment is accepted pro and cons:-)
    Cheers,
    Mariana

    Hi

  • Really?  All Adobe has for customer service is a forum?  I have a simple question.  Can't just contact someone?  Are you that cheap?

really?  All Adobe has for customer service is a forum?  I have a simple question.  Can't just contact someone?  Are you that cheap?

Not to be critical, but in the time you have waited to find out how to contact Adobe you probably would have had your question answered by someone here on the forum. Many times people have been given bad information when they have found a way to contact Adobe. Much of the so-called technical support has been outsourced overseas. And the people manning the phones have no experience with Adobe products. So you can complain some more. Or, you can ask your question. It's your choice.

  • Are we really vulnerable for plugins?

Are we really vulnerable... or is the admonition to perform updates a catchall for out-of-date plugins? What I mean is, do these plugins really miss a new vulnerability every other week, or is the term "vulnerable" used to mean that there is a newer release available and you should just update it later, because maybe this release fixed something.
I really want to know when cyber creeps have unleashed a new round of havoc via bad code in the plugins. However, I don't have the time to chase updates in Acroread or Java every week. Besides, after every series of updates, I always need to open up Microsoft Autoruns and disable their self-installed processes to call home and check versions whenever I boot up. I'm sorry, but any updating will be done by me when I'm not late for something at work. I can't say how many times my computer is stalled checking for new versions (and downloading and installing them while I'm trying to do accomplish something!)
So if these vulnerabilities are just a reflection of there being a new version available, I'll research and weigh my options for the day and just avoid vulnerable sites for a couple weeks (that's a joke - I always avoid vulnerable sites and have never gotten a virus). However, if these really mean that bad guys are actively deploying malware, I'll take them more seriously. I know how to manage the risks if I know what this message means.
One might wonder why plugins to display images and documents would be so vulnerable anyways. Is there really code in them that says "ok, the document is displayed, is there anything else the server side would like us to run on the client PC?" :) Looking at the recent Apple QT versions, they're not clear if the "arbitrary code" that gets run is that the PC will continue to execute random stuff in memory (which is more likely to lead to a crash) or if it's code placed in the image that will get executed.
    Thanks in advance for clarifying...

hello, yes the updates from adobe and oracle for its plugins contain fixes for discovered vulnerabilities regularly. this should not be taken lightly since outdated plugins are the #1 infection vector for malware on the web nowadays...
''edit: you also might not be safe by just visiting known & "trusted" sites, since also ad-networks or content delivery networks might get hacked and used for the spreading of malware.''

  • Are you seeing a colour shift in 720p and 1080p h.264 slideshow exports?

When I export video from Lightroom 3 (or 3.2), I see that 720p and 1080p output can be very different in colour from other resolutions. It's as if my display profile were being ignored when playing back those particular resolutions.
Playback client: Apple's QuickTime Player X on Mac OS X 10.6.4. If I use VLC or QuickTime Player 7, colour is consistent across all export resolutions but is consistently wrong compared with the original photographs. (Again, it's as if the ICC display profile is being ignored.)
Display profile: my display is profiled and the profile is an ICC v4 file but I can reproduce the issue with some v2 profiles, as well.
    AVC vs h.264
One oddity (that might be a peculiarity of QuickTime Player) is that when I view the 720p and 1080p movies, and ask for information about codecs (command-i), QuickTime Player X tells me that these two movies use AVC encoding. For all the other sizes, it says claims h.264. My understanding is that these two are effectively the same thing; on the other hand, it's curious that the two sizes showing different colour from the rest are identified differently. And QuickTime Player 7 claims AVC for all resolutions and always gets the colour wrong.
Is this just a QuickTime Player X bug? It gets colour right for all resolutions except 720p and 1080p, and provides a clue by saying the movie uses the AVC codec? Or is this an encoding issue?
    Other sizes are fine
Exporting and playing back any other h.264 movie size, from 320 pixels right up to 960 pixels, provides perfectly acceptable colour in QuickTime Player X .There's a slight shift compared with the originals but nothing dramatic, and it's consistent across different sizes.
Any thoughts? Can you reproduce the problem?
I've tested this on a bunch of different Macs but they're all running 10.6.4.  Can anyone see this problem? Would anyone like to test on Windows and report back? The results seem to vary wildly depending on your display profile and how far it is from a canned profile so if you really want to be sure of seeing the differences, switch your display to "Wide Gamut RGB" for the playback test, then compare the 720p/1080p files with the rest, including the sRGB reference.
Would anyone like to tell me I'm being a complete idiot and overlooking something blindingly obvious? I won't be upset.
I was just about to post a note on the blog but thought I'd better post something here first. I'll probably ask readers to provide feedback here rather than on the site. I get the feeling that this issue won't be a big deal for most people.
    Some examples for download
I have a zipped collection of single-image slideshows generated by Lightroom at each available resolution, together with a 960-pixel JPEG (sRGB) of that same image to act as a reference. You can download it here (5.9MB). For the moment, you'll probably have to ignore the URL that you see in the slideshows and in the Read Me file—it points to the blog post that I was preparing but which I haven't yet published. I'll do that next so anyone reading the blog will come here and post.
Thanks in advance, and apologies if I'm being dumb about something.
    Update
I've added a 720x480 file that shows the same problem and updated the URLs shown in the movies and the Read Me file.

    Bahi,
just to illustrate what mess this is, I tested for you on Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6) using the same wide gamut monitor. Here are two screenshots from that experiment. I converted the screenshots from my display profile to sRGB to show you what I see and scaled down 50% (this is a 30" behemoth). First Leopard.
You see they are all the same, but different from the sRGB export you provided. The GB sticker is too blue and the tint on the car is wrong. I doubt anybody but a photographer would notice though.
    Next is Snow Leopard:
Here the 320 pixel, the 480 pixel and the 960 pixel image are different from the 720 pixel, the 720p and the 1080p ones. Neither is strictly correct as they are all different from the sRGB display. This is consistent with their being no real color management, just gamma corrections and color space transforms (video is usually not stored as RGB but as YUV, necessitating a transform for display). Annoying, but not much you can do about it.
Just doing some quick googling I came across many mentions of issues such as this. It clearly is just a big mess.

  • Seriously, Nokia what are you playing at?

I know there are aleady countless threads about the battery life but I really want a proper response from anyone on here who can speak for nokia?
WHY are you washing your hands of "battery issues " after this latest update when there are clearly so many people still with issues.
9 hours since last charge now on 52%. That's with email checking every now and then over 3g and some facebook and some whatsapp. Few minutes of listening to music too.
It's clear the latest battery update just changed the calculations so it showed there was more time estimated left...... (reckons 18 hours left but I'm more concerned about how much has gone in the past 8 hours rather than how much it says is left)
Diagnostics tells me the full charge capacity is 1354mAh.....:/
I'd also LOVE to know how you can claim these figures
    9.5 h
    Maximum 3G talk time
    335 h
    Maximum 3G standby time
    55 h
    Maximum music playback time
    6.5 h
    Maximum video playback time
I can't even get 55hours max 3g standby time let alone listening to music for that long.
And I don't even want to hear "turn data and wifi and location off when you're not using it"
    I shouldn't have to

I have to agree with the OP - in that I feel that the battery life on these Nokia's is very poor.  The fact that this is Nokia that we're talking about, the same Nokia that built it's kingdom on bullet proof dependability and huge battery life, maybe compiles the problem.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 - 1650 mAh and this new Lumia 800 (1450mAh).  I charged both last night and then used the SGS2 as my main phone all day with the Lumia along for the ride just to compare.
Both phones had WiFi turned on and the phone set to 2G.  I installed a couple of apps on the Nokia and had it checking emails every 30 mins.
The Nokia has just died after less than 18 hours - of basically being on standby all day only. No calls, no maps, no GPS, no screen use, just emails and twitter check twice.  Stone dead.
My SGS2 is still showing 54% charge after much more demanding use.  Even taking into account the extra 200mAh of the android battery, that would still equal around 48% remaining.
Although others may feel that this is acceptable, especially if they simply don't use the phone very often in a day, for people that actually need to depend on their Lumia for any level of productivity away from a power source, this is terrible.  Throw in the fact that it's a sealed unit....pretty ridiculous.  My old N8 lasts vastly longer than both these phones.
    Design 10/10
    OS 6/10
    Productivity - 2/10
As a long time user of Nokia phones and more recently Android handsets, coming back to Nokia feels a little like they've taken 2 steps forward and 3 steps backwards with the Lumia.
I would like to return this handset to Nokia and try something else...maybe the N9 has a better battery life?

  • Are you "hoarding" contacts? It may be time to purge your database

I moved homes this month, which is a pretty excruciating process if you’ve not done it recently. Everyone with whom I’ve commiserated tells me this: If you have a packed box that you haven’t opened in six months or more after the move, just get rid of it! One friend said he still had packed boxes from a move two years ago. Yeah.
Generally, most of us are not that concerned about those un-opened boxes; out of sight, out of mind. But what happens when we have to move homes because of budget? Or we need the space for something else more valuable? It can often be an emotional decision, but the boxes may have to go.
If you’ve been managing a marketing database for any period of time, you’ve probably amassed a good number of contacts. While the number and quality of those contacts is important, the better question is, what are you actually doing with those contacts? Are some stuffed in boxes in the back of your database? Or are you actively marketing to and engaging all of them to drive revenue for your business?
So how do you spot which contacts are destined for the trash heap?  Begin by segmenting out reachable contacts in your database to whom you’ve not sent an email in the last 6 months. Filter further: are they a good fit to your ideal customer profile and relatively new to the database? If so, drop them into an educational nurture program and get them moving on their buyer’s journey!
There’s another potential collection of dust-collecting contacts: those that you have emailed, but never engaged at all – no opens, clicks, landing page visits, web site visits, form submissions, nothing. Apply the same yardstick: if they fit your ideal customer profile, try to bring them back, but perhaps via a channel other than email.
These are just a few recommendations for making the most of your database. However, even after these campaigns, you’ve likely still got some leftovers and it may be difficult to let go. We marketers are told as a best practice never to delete contacts from our database. But why keep something from which you’re not gaining benefit, especially if you have to pay for it? This ultimately waters down the overall value of the rest of your database.
Using Eloqua’s segmentation capabilities, you can easily discover untapped opportunity in your database while isolating and deleting the junk contacts. The modern marketer takes action – don’t rent storage units for your unengaged, poor fit prospects!
So, do you know what’s shoved in the back of your marketing database?

    Gaea,
We recently deleted out approximately 400K contacts from our database (not using the method described above but using our own process) and have had amazing success. The open and click through rates are going through the roof and our overall impact on the organization is improving greatly. Anyone that hasn't cleaned house recently is really leaving money on the table by diluting their messaging and trying too hard to be too much to too many people.

  • For the average person what really is the point of the activity monitor app when all you really want to know is whether your mac is running at its best?

I have had my imac for nearly 18 months now,
It's okay, is the best I can say about it.
    It cost me around £800+
So recently (and foolishly!) I downloaded OS Mavericks when I was actually looking for a freebie word processor programme (I got Bean because it's simple like me.)
Now the point of all this is that Mavericks has new features like a redesigned Safari (But I ain't noticed any difference yet) and Imaps (Huh!) and Ibooks and Imovie or something.
So when you are oldish like me, you really don't want people to keep changing and introducing new stuff (most of which is pointless anyway) all the time; because it takes us old ***** a while to get used to the last "improvement."
So you try and get rid of all these new apps that you don't want and didn't ask for anyway,
and then you find out you can't, because they're an integral part of the new OS.
    Brilliant!
Then you find that Mail has to redo itself and this thing no longer works properly etc. and you start wishing you hadn't got up that morning...
So you try and get it all back the way it was..
    And you can't.
Because you don't have an external hard drive to use the Time machine back up facility.
So you get in touch with Apple Support and it's now nearly bedtime, but at least you feel like you might be gettin' somewhere.
You talk to the supportguy and suddenly you can't remember what the problem is and what your name is, and you're thinking you might as well order in a pizza seein' as you've drunk the last of the gin..."
Anyway the guy manages to keep his temper and you get some degree of order restored but the machine still seems "jumpy" so someone says to you
"Check out the Activity Monitor! That'll tell you if something's not working right."
So you do, but it doesn't.
Just a bunch of numbers and CPU stuff and User Idiot Input etc.
All you really want is some little box to pop up and say,
"Hey! yyyou've really ssscrewed things upppp-p here, old mmmmman!!. This programme is no longer functioning properly, that thing appears to frozen, and you just wiped half your saved photos of Aunt Jessie's 94th birthday celebration (the one's where she had her eyes open)..
Press here for a full maintenance overview and repair menu.."
By this time you are on the floor, your leg's got cramp and you really really need a pee.
But there ain't no maintenance programme, just an activity monitor app you can't make any sense out of, so you yank the **** power cord out of the socket and go to bed..
    So you try and

DVD-R media that is single layer has 4.3 GB formatted capacity.
DVD+R DL media has 7.8 GB formatted capacity.
DVD-R double sided has 4.3 GB on each side.

  • Hi there how are you guys out there of this forum? I got a question for y'a

Hi there how are you guys out there of this forum? I got a question for y’all
I wanted to know how I could record different folders using iTunes
Cause when recorded 2000 thongs on the DVD
There were 2000 songs to go through
So I really wanted to have had folders and then the music recorded inside them
So I could get right to where I wanted real quickly
Could anyone please teach me how to do that real quickly?
Can we do it with iTunes?
I know we can do it with Nero.

    1) Go to file, select new playlist. Creat the playlaist.
    2) Download your music into iTunes.
NOTE: CHECK 'Recently Added' before you download your music.
If the select boxes has a check in them, turn it off by
holding down the 'ctrl' key and selecting one of the
checked boxes. This shold turn off all the checks.
It would be better to clear 'Resently Add' of all
previous downloads, but I don't know how to do that
    yet.
    3) under 'PLAYLIST' on the right, select 'Recently Add'.
all of your song should show there with a check in the selection
    box.
4)Hold the shift key and select the frist (selete records name),
then the last recorded tune. All of the recordings shouls light
    up blue.
    5) While holding the 'shift' key, drag one of the records to your new
playlist. All of the blue highlighted song will transfer to the new
    playlist.

  • An alert mesage e.g(Are you sure you want to delete)

    Hi all,
How can I come up with the alert message within the jsp pages?
Is my first time to do that? Actually I want to delete the records. But before
I delete I want to get an alert message e.g. are you sure you want to delete?
If you press OK button then it proceed to delete. And if you press CANCEL
Than it will go back to that same page.
    Please help.

Such an alert must be programmed as client side, not server side code. It's not java but javascript and it runs on the client's browser, not on your server.
    You include an element like:
    <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="Javascript1.2">
    function askDelete() {
      return confirm("Do you really want to delete this?");
    </SCRIPT>
      <INPUT TYPE="submit" name="delete" value="Delete"
onClick="return askDelete();">An onClick handler on a submit or image input field that returns a value blocks the action if the return is false.

  • Downloaded iBooks on my Macbook Pro but when I tried to sync it on my iPhone, this appeared: "Are you sure you want to sync books? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPhone "My iPhone" will be removed". Love the iBooks as well as music. HELP!

Downloaded iBooks on my Macbook Pro but when I tried to sync it on my iPhone, this appeared: "Are you sure you want to sync books? All existing songs, movies and TV shows on the iPhone “My iPhone” will be removed". Love the iBooks as well as music. I really don't want to loose my music. HELP!!!

From the message you are receiving, it sounds like you either, 1) haven't synced your iPhone with that computer before, 2) are using two different iTunes accounts, or 3) both.  If you have purchased music or movies through your iPhone with a certain iTunes account and purchased books through iBooks on your MacBook through a different iTunes account then there is no having both on the phone.
Apple doesn't allow content from two different accounts on a device at the same time.  Also if two "libraries" have been created, one on the iPhone and one on the Macbook then syncing will erase data that is not associated with that particular library.
If you are using the same iTunes account for both, then you should be able to redownload any purchased items (music, books, etc.) from iCloud, assuming you have set that up.
    I hope this helps!

  • Are you having trouble Saving a copy of a pdf document in Adobe X? Well here is the solution!!!!

Use another Web browser! There are confirmed problems with IE8 and Firefox. Opera works just fine, and I am assuming since Google is 'tea-bagging' just about everyone (or everyone is 'tea-bagging' Google, I'm not really sure) that it probably works in Chrome. There! Problem solved! Adobe sucks!

You can create a script that will lock the fields before signing. But when you edit the document after the student signs, the signature will no longer be valid and the document will show that it has been changed after signing. Adobe restricts the number of files you can collect information on with forms that can be saved and emailed. The restriction used to be 500 files unless you purchased the appropriate LiveCycle product to enable the pdf files for saving.
Why in the world are you requiring potential students to sign forms. Many students will not know how to sign pdf files. Just have a button that will submit the information to a website for you to extract or to send you the information in an FDF file and import the information form. You can have a button that will lock the fields they fill out. This will ensure you do not have to worry about the 500 file limit.

  • Where Are You @ Audition 4+???

Hello  I really need to speak to the makers of audition.  Your product is so great i cannot for the life of me see why your letting this product slip away.  I have been using Adobe Audition my entire life.  Your product allwos me to work faster and more creative then any other product on the market.   Audition 3 is almost a perfect product.  It really dosent need anything else for me except a few features are missing for me..
We need windows 7 64bit compatability.  Majority of pc users by now have windows 7 64bit working with audio / video these days.  The reason is we need to take advantage of all the ram and speed of a 64 bit software.  for small studios getting by with the 32 bit is wonderful.. but we use a ton of rack plugins for tube compressors, reverbs, and effects through out our sessions.   we need to keep the pc running smoothly in very large sessions.
We absolutely need a better universal way to use our own DAE controllers.  You left us stranded here with one option.  The mackie control.  What about those of us using the Mackie Hui or other controllers?  I have searched the depths of the internet looking for a way to get my Mackie HUI working and have went as far to almost hire a programmer to help using the Audition SDK.  If anyone can help on this subject please shead you light on me here im so tired of looking for a solution.. thanks
Your taking forever on getting your team together and taking your product to the next level... Meanwhile die hard supporters of your company are getting left in the dark and your rival companies are luring us slowly in by listening to what we need and delivering it..  For instance ive seen pro tools copy a few of your features through out their updates because people wrote them asking them to have that feature.. One nice feature they havent stolen yet is in the edit window you can highlight the area and simply move volume up and down as needed.  Love that feature while mixing down..  You guys have in my opinion the best audio functioning software and layout but your missing midi controller compatability..
Over the years ive been listening to everyone else say adobe audition is low and how i should  upgrade to pro tools, nuendo, or something professional... But i defended my love for this software because  Its  fast, it functions with little pc load and how its professional all the way arround.
Can you at the least release an update for the midi controllers!!!  im using the mackie hui because i like to see a meterbridge. You only have support for the mackie Universal.. But there should be a lot more controllers supported.  I also own the jl cooper cs-10 and digidesign control 24.
Anyways im not here to listen to the BS... im hoping we can get some insight from the developers on this one here.  Also if youve found a way to use the mackie HUI interface in audition 3 100% please help with that.  Thanks for your time.

Thank you for the excellent reply.  This helps so much.
a few questions in reply to your statement.
1   Some of the more high end mastering processers and plugins that are purchased independently are corrently taking advantage of faster processing using 64 bit.  I am currently running adobe audtion in windows 7 64 bit and it works great i was just curious if they were going take advantage of technology and write a version for people who use larger stuidio sessions and more plugins whom need 64bit.. For instance putting 32 tracks with three active racks on each track creates pc load that causes jittering and errors.  UNLESS... you are running quad core extreme or i7 processors and using 6 gigs of ram.. I continue purchasing the fastest pc i can build.. i want to be able to do my job in audio smoothly and in less time.  I think more professionals would take your product more seriously knowing they can take advantage of their pc recources..  Unfortuinatly 32 bit versions are limiting us like a bottle neck and people getting in to some serious amazing mixes really need to open the pipeline with out errors and hickups.   *just for the record.. im not trying to insult the 32 bit version of Audition because i believe its a fantastic piece of software as is but as a consumer and someone who uses it daily in a comercial environment i would love to have a version made to run on my 64 bit architecture.  I work in audition daily and blow away the clients who are "pro tools this and that"  fans because ive been working in this software environment my entire life so i know the ins and outs and it delivers a much better sound IMO and proof of work.  You cant seriously tell me that because there is a few people still running xp the company hasnt released a 64 bit version.  I would suggest leaving the version 3.0 created for that version and using 4.0 to stay updated with todays technology and PC uses windows 7... My audition system uses 3 monitors.. the 1st is a 46inch that shows my workspace the second is a 32" that shows the mixer and FX rack the third is a 22" that shows the FX plugins controls.. i leave all three wondows maxamized and up to see whats going on while recording a session..  Nice you have this feature.. Just to give you an example of the setup and why multiple cores and processiong and why were using 64 bit.. we are alsio taking advantage of faster hard drives, ram,  ect..
    2.     The drivers fro the mackie board i was reffering to was made in 1997 and IMO is a great tool available for adobe to use to give us hands on production.  It features a full meter bridge and controlls basically everything your mouse regularly clicks on.. I purchased this specifically to use with my adobe audition and went in to set it up in my studio and..... i was greatly dissapointed to find only one support controller available for the mackie universal which is a slightly newer version but dosent have a meter bridge...  There is not many professional automation mixers available for us to buy so supporting the few that are out there would be nice.. and im sure if you contacted mackie or any other company making boards you will find them happy to supply you support to place them in the software...   Its a little diffrent for me as a consumer writing them now asking for a basic control driver for my MACKIE HUI which now is discontinued and asking them to make me a driver that i can mod in to your system...  thats way too difficult.. Im asking if you would look in to this for future development so we can take advantage of automation and control in all available consoles.. Profesional recording  environments use these surfaces shouldent your software support them?
    3.  Adobe audition is great dont let someone program and change the whole layout arround. this work environment is so perfect.. it really im really a die hard audition user i work in this environment and think its the best.. There really isnt much to change. IMO it just needs support in the areas noted above.. It would be cool to maby update the skin a little but you really dont need much... Portal 7.3 masthead customization - How to remove Logoff dialog box "Are you sure you want to logoff?"
I have recently upgraded our portal to 7.3 sps10 and we are using the Ajax framework
I have a requirement to Remove the Logoff Dialog box "Are you sure you want to logoff?"
I am able to Import masthead.war into NWDS and get the project ready for development with the appropriate jar and libraries.
I am able to deploy the project also. I need help finding How to turn this dialog box off and just log the user off. I was able to accomplish this in Classic frame work page HeaderiView.jsp.
    I have looked at afpmasthead.org.sj and masthead.jsp. I am not a js/jsp developer.
I can see the logoff dialog box being created but I am having trouble finding the logoff code.
Please advise me on the code changes required to remove the  Logoff dialog box "Are you sure you want to logoff?" from the Ajax framework.
Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you
    Sarah

Thank you Troy for your Helpful Threads.
    Problem Solution:
Followed the thread on How to download and change AFP Masthead on SAP Portal 7.3
Located the file which contains the logoff code from thread http://scn.sap.com/thread/3265584
The File with the Logoff coding in it is a Javascript file afpmasthead.js
Identified logoff code without dialog box using this thread https://scn.sap.com/thread/3307601
    NovaDialogBox.performLogout();    (perform logoff)
I was able to remove the Logoff dialog box Do you really want to logoff? And replace it with logging the user off.
afpmasthead.js  All the code is on 1 line,  To fix this go to -->Source -->Format
Comment out the following lines of code and replace with logoff code
    logoffLinkElement.onmouseup= function(aS) {
    logoffLinkElement.onmouseup= function(aS) {
    NovaDialogBox.performLogout();
