Hi there,
Not sure if this will help, but I think you can use a mic to do a voice over. You can use the line in option when setting up the voice over. But you must have a quarter inch jack on the mic.

  • Apply a Batch Process of Clean Up and Level Voice Over?

I want to apply a batch proces of "Clean Up and Level Voice Over," which is a preset.
However, batch processes can only use "favorites." So I try to create a favorite with the preset.
But this gives me an error, "A new favorite could not be recorded because no supported actions were recorded."
Can this be done? If so, what am I missing or doing wrong? I've read the help on the favorites and I'm following those instructions. I start recording, select the presets, apply, then stop recording and I get the error.
If I just select the presets and don't apply them to a wav file while recording preset, I get the same error, "A new favorite could not be recorded because no supported actions were recorded."
    Please advise.
    Thanks,

    Hi Bill,
Audition CS 5.5 could record individual effects as favorite operations, but not effects racks.  (While I can't discuss what's coming in CS 6 right now, I might suggest that this problem was one that bothered many of us on the team and one that we actively pursued solving early in CS 6 development...)
The workaround I can suggest right now would be to Start Recording a Favorite, then open and apply each effect from the Clean Up and Level Voiceover preset one at a time, with the Default settings.
    1. Adaptive Noise Reduction
    2. Speech Volume Leveler
    3. Hard Limiter
Then Stop Recording the Favorite and it should behave equivalent to the effects rack preset when used in the Batch Process tool.

  • Voice Over in Premiere Pro CS5

    Hi there.
A quick question about doing voice overs. I am recording using a Tascam US-122, with mono on. I am recording a voice over onto Audio Track 1, but it records to normal volume on the left side, and barely any volume to the right.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks,
    David

You're right, we weren't on the same page, and now I understand!
So  I added a mono track and yes, there is only one levels display. I  recorded, then copied and pasted it to a second mono track and panned  one hard left, the other hard right, and I got equal levels in both  channels!
    Ok, so problem solved.
But  one last question.... I'm still not really understanding what I'm doing when I record in mono. The screenshot below shows the playback of the mono recording... with one Levels display for the mono track, Audio 3, and two Levels displays in the Master. And 2 channels are playing back in the Master. So when I play it back now, I'm getting sound in both channels.
I'm not sure why creating a mono channel, as you suggested, ended up with a recording that plays back in 2 channels on the Master.
    Thanks,
    David

  • Voice Over causes the computer to crash

If my computer has sat idol for a short period of time and I try to use voice over prior to something else, I will get the message "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the power button for several seconds or press the restart button. I do not see this message other then with voice over.
Voice over has always been very sensitive. I need to arrange my desk top as standard and then have the canvas at 100%. This works.
Voice over is set at source and input M-audio mobil pre, rate 4800 hz, gain 150, volume -14 and sound clues checked.
Is this something I am doing or is there a fix out there for this? I do have a work around but was wondering if there is a better way.
    Thank You

You can wait unless the problem you have is stopping you from completing the job. In that case...
You can do this anytime. Connect the new drive and change the scratch drive preferences in SYSTEM SETTINGS. Do not create folders, simply select the root of the drive you wish to use. Once you have done so for both the Capture Scratch and Render files, FCP will create project specific folders on the new drive. Save the project and close FCP. You will then have to copy the elements from the old scratch drive to the appropriate folders on the new drive. Launch FCP, open your project and then reconnect the media in your project, directing it to the new drive. FCP will likely not connect to the render files once they have been moved so you may have to re-render your sequence.
Before you do any of that, you might try trashing FCP Preferences first to see if that fixes the problem and allows you to finish the job.

  • Voice over sounds like coming from a toilet paper tube

OK, I was born in a poverty stricken area of Pennsylvania, and we used toilet paper tubes for toys.
More self-disclosure than you wanted, but during an interview, the questions did not come out very clear. I used the voice over tool, and the difference between the sound and the voice over is very noticeable. The voice over sounds "tinny" and distant.
I copied the sound tracks to make it louder and played with the pan and the volume, but to no avail.
    Any suggestions?

I am using a Logitech USB mic. Perhaps that is
    my problem to.
OUCH! this made me wince in sympathy pains. what you need for a decent voiceover - i do this in my edit room - are some sound blankets on the floor, a sennheiser me66 in the mic stand pointing down, above and in front of he talent, going into your mixer and then into your vtr or your mac. personally, i go into my vtr and use tape so i can turn off the computers.
that usb mic isn't gonna cut it!

  • Standard Voice Over Effects

    Hello,
Still a bit new to Sound Track Pro 2 and there seems to be a massive array of effects available and I was wondering if some more experienced users could help me.
I am recording a voice over for a rolling news type segment with one mail narrator. Are there a few effects out there anyone can recommend that they would normally use for this style of audio, that kind of BBC news reader effect.
I am aware that my query is quite general but any advice would be appreciated.
Mac OS X (10.4.10)   8 Core Mac Pro & Intel MacBook

no I don't think so, the guy is news and media commentator Ray Snoddy - I've seen him on many occasions and that's just his normal voice.
On a live news programme like that he wil be mic'ed up by the studio sound op with a lavalier mic and the settings through the mixer will be set to get as true as possible. Levels will be taken prior to broadcast for each speaker but that will be likely only to be for volume.
On a live programme like that, with many contributors, there's no time for fine tuning anything else. Even with the pre-recorded inserts, the only tweaking will be for levels - it will be assumed that the item has been recorded correctly and only if there was some problem with the recording will any attempt be made to correct it.
Live news just doesn't have the time.
Obviously the studio will be acoustically appropriate to start with.

  • Voice over tips?

    Hi Everyone,
I am currently trying my hand at creating voice overs. I have a reasonable mic/preamp setup plugged into one of the higher end Sony Vaio laptops so I already get a descent raw audio file. However, that's exactly what it is: raw. I would be really grateful if any of you could give me some tips on making the audio (spoken male voice only) sound more professional. Perhaps not quite as deep and resonant as the film trailors but something towards that direction. At the moment I am experimenting with the compander and then I normalize the file. This has given fairly good results.
Your help will be much appreciated.
    Many thanks

Nothing beats an acoustically dead or well treated room for that closeness. I don't have it, but the Reflexion filter from Selectronics is pretty good. It's a half barrel of heavy duty damping material mounted around the mike.
When I use a dynamic mike, I point it not directly at the mouth but to the tip of my chin or even from the side. This way I avoid plosives like heavy B's and P's. It also rounds off treble gently, emphasizing the bass in your voice slightly. This kind of 'natural EQ'ing' is preferable to digital filtering afterwards IMO.
Inside Audition I always remove any noise that might creep in, like fan noises etc. I also roll off all bass below circa 70 hZ. You must listen to your recording to find the correct frequency; it shouldn't affect the sound at all. The reason I do this is to remove rumble and deep resonances that will not be audible on most computer speakers anyway. My recordings ends up in the MP3 format, and low frequencies tend to 'steal' a lot of energy from the compression algorithm. When there aren't any really low frequencies, you free up resources so that your VO is treated better. This is especially evident with hard MP3 compression.
If I'm not the last hand on the file I will deliver my files without any dynamic or EQ treatments except perhaps normalizing to -3 db. If I make the final file I actually use some hard limiting too. Max is at -3 dB, because I've found that laptop speakers especially can break up at anything above that. I push up the volume a bit to get more presence and intelligibility on poor speakers. It depends on your target audience.
Nevertheless, you need one of those rare 'million-dollar-voice' guys in to get that particualar voice. Technology can't do it alone. The attitude of the talent/speaker will make a huge difference. Don't sit hunchback'ed and talk, pretend you are a teacher (in a quiet class!) and you want to say something important to all, without shouting. Singers in the studio are often told to sing with a smile - however artificial - because it improves their voice. Similar tricks for VO. Things like that...

  • Voice-over and weird key combinations trouble.

    hello,
I have a macbook of the previous gen. with OSX leopard. Last night a voice-over turned on which talks to everything I do even telling me on what internet site I am, everything that I was using was outlined. And the keys had an other order. So for example: F11 was not for turning down volume but became the expose button.
I did not turn these functions on and I don't know how to turn them of either.
So please help because it's really anoying
    Thanks in advance
    David

    Hi,
you did turn them on, you just didn't notice it. Go to System Preferences/Universal Access and turn off VoiceOver. You can deactivate or change the key combo so it won't happen again.

  • Voice over track gone silent

    Hello,
I have a video on top of which I have added a voice over (my mom commenting on some 40 year old captured 8mm movies) in the audio track underneath the video track. Worked just great, but last time I opened the file, my voice over audio has gone silent. Each voice segment still shows, but I do not see the audio waveform anymore. When I take a voice segment and drag it on my hard disk, it produce a voice xx.mov file, which Quicktime would not open (I get a message like: "The movie could not be opened. The file is not a movie").
I have, of course ensured that all volume settings on the mac and in iMovie are set properly (check boxes at the right f the tracks, volume slider below the video preview, etc.) I have also tried to view package by control-clicking on my iMovie file and clicking on "show package": I checked the content of the Media folder: all my voice file appear, but when I rty and open any of them, quicktime would not open them.
Has anybody had the same issue? Any way I could resolve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated as it took forever to record these voice-overs.
    Thank you in advance, Regis

  • I can't hear my voice over

I'm just about finished with my new video project, and it's about 30 mins long. The video clips were edited and placed first, then the music (which was dragged and dropped from the desktop; it is located under the clip not as background music), and now I want to record the voice over. The voice over process goes well until I'm finished recording. I can be heard through the mic, when I'm finished a purple clip appears with wave lengths of volume, and other audio volume is brought down to hear the recording. All these things happen like they're supposed to but the voice over is silent. I boost the volume up to 500% and still nothing. I try the same thing in another video project and it works perfectly. The only difference is in that project the music is background music (the audio track covers/surrounds the video clip). Someone please help. I was supposed to release this video tonight, but as always I hit a bump in the road.

Where are you using the phone? On what volume setting?  The 4s has multiple microphones that are supposed to filter out background noise.  Perhaps you are using it in some setting that is complicating this. Alternatively you can take it to a service center and see if there is a problem with it.  My friend has one that she uses all the time on speaker setting and others hear no echo.  It's either something you are doing or a faulty phone.

  • How do I turn off voice-over service on ipad?

(Please read this all the way through to avoid confusion)
When I watch certain channels On Demand on my ipad, there is a voice-over for the visually impaired .. a narrator that describes every single little thing the characters are doing (which is amusing when it's a sex scene). I cannot find any way to turn this off. It's mostly on USA network. I have looked everywhere and can't find a way to shut it off. It has nothing to do with the closed-captioning, or the audio/secondary audio function. Can anyone help?

See this Apple doc -> iPhone: Configuring accessibility features (including VoiceOver and Zoom)
    VoiceOver
If VoiceOver is on and you want to turn it off from the device instead of from iTunes, remember that a double-tap acts like a single tap and you need to use three fingers to scroll when VoiceOver is on:
    Press Home.
    Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
    Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
    Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
    Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On"  next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.
You can configure the device to display options for VoiceOver, Zoom, or White on Black when you triple-click the Home button. This feature is off by default; to enable it, tap  Settings > General > Accessibility > Triple-click Home.
If VoiceOver is on and the screen is black, but you can still use the device by pressing volume up and volume down, you may have screen curtain on. Try triple-tapping using three fingers on the device display to turn off screen curtain. Or connect the device to iTunes (see above).
You can also turn it off from iTunes, that document goes over that too.

  • Voice over left channel

I'm recording voice over on a presentation through my apogee duet.  It's obviously a mono source and in the duet interface I have it panned center, however the playback seems to only record the voice to the left channel.  Anyway to get that to both channels when I record?  I really don't want to edit the audio after the fact.

As your not willing to say what this device is or how its connected, I will provide generic settings:
1 -  System Preferences > Sound > Input:      select the correct sound device from the list, speak into the mic and move the input volume slider until the level indicator displays about  75%
2 -  Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup:    select the correct audio device from the list on the left,  drag the M slider all the way over to the right the value box should now show 1
When these settings are made, the 2 rows of the recording indicator in Keynote will show a USB mono mic correctly set to dual channel.

  • Voice Over Keeps turning on.

First of before you guys start in I already know how to turn of the voice over in sys prefs and using the F5 method. I have also checked my log on items and there are only two things there. One is disabled and the other is ICAL.
Problem: Voice over turns back on every time I restart my computer and I hate it. It is getting really annoying to have to turn it off every time I start my computer. the only thing I can think of is to maybe create some sort of script to automatically turn it off, but there has to be a better way. Feel free to ask me the stupid questions, apart from the things that I already tried.
Btw, my computer is a mac book pro with os x leopard and is fully updated according to the update thing.

I just try the log out and log back in thing and it did not turn back on. I then tried restarting all together and it did not turn back on. So i guess it is fixed. I wish i knew what happened to have it turn back on though. I'm really sure how i could have accidentally hit cmd & F5 to turn it on but i guess i must have. I was probably adjusting the volume and some how had my finger on the cmd button instead of 'fn'. Another I D 10 T error lol.
Thanks for the help. I'll prob be back if it comes back on though. I'll make sure i dont hit the cmd and f5 key together.
