Voiceover compact voices

Hallo, I wrote an application that can read multiple text files and converts them into audio-files. Unfortunately italian voices (premium version) are not accurate as the english verisions, while the compact version are good enough.
The problem I'm facing with is that when I enumerate available voices the NSSpeechSyhnthesizer returns only the premium version of all voices. How can I access the compact version? This is a sample of my code:
NSArray* voices;
voices = [NSSpeechSynthesizer availableVoces];
I can see "Silvia" and "Paolo", but neither "Silvia Compact" nor "Paolo Compact" in the voices array. Can anyone help me?

Good question.
If you go into /System/Library/Speech/Voices you will find all the voices. If you look at the very first voice AgataCompact.SpeechVoice and go to Contents->Info.plist you find the bundle identifier "com.apple.speech.synthesis.voice.agata.compact". And [[NSSpeechSynthesizer alloc] initWithVoice:@"com.apple.speech.synthesis.voice.agata.compact"] will actually give you a working synthesizer.
You could use availableVoices, and whenever a voice ends in ".premium" try replacing ".premium" with ".compact". That will only work with voices that the user has installed, but that should be no surprise for the user.

VoiceOver - Better Voice?

Is there any way to buy and load a better VoiceOver voice? The one on the iPad is pretty bad I have had better ones on my computers for over 10 years now. I would really appreciate having a decent voice and am more then willing to pay for it. Taking a 10 year step back in technology is painful even for something as nice as an iPad.

The only way to buy and load anything for the iPad is from the app store. If you have searched there and not found anything suitable, then I don't think there is any way to add it. You can tell Apple you want this here:

What happened to Siri's voice? Why is it so robotic? Please help!

Hello there!
I recently purchased an iPhone 5s and I am noticing that while using Siri, her voice sounds very robotic and not like the Siri voice I left behind on my old 4s.
I purposely did not backup my iPhone 4s when I purhcased the 5s because my phone was buggy and the Apple reps said to do everything from scratch when I got my new phone. (They didn't want the old crap to transfer to the new so I started fresh).
I read on some blogs that if people turn off / back on Siri, she 'finds' her new / better voice, but I've had no such luck. Some people also said to turn off the 'enhanced' slider and turn it back on, which I've done as well.
I've given it 3 days -- thinking maybe she'd get a secret update or something. But sadly, she still sounds like a robot. I mean, she is a robot -- but she sounds WAYYYY more robotic now and not like the more natural sounding female I had on the 4s.
How can I fix this? I use Siri ALOT and it's bugging the heck out of me!

Please help this is very unusual!

Ok this is really annoying. My IPhone battery was low today so I hooked it up to my computer, for some reason I don't use the wall charger very much. When I hooked it up today, ITunes said it couldn't read the phone and recommended I do a restore. I did and now it seems I have lost the photos and video I had on there, I'm not sure if they were being synced to ITunes or not. I restored and it gave me the usual prompt if I wanted to set up the phone as a new phone or restore the backup from my old phone, and I said restore. After several minutes where ITunes appeared to be doing nothing, I disconnected the phone and reconnected it again, mostly to get ITunes to respond to my keyboard commands. From ITunes, I was able to get VoiceOver turned on, allowing me to use the phone. It was asking me the same thing ITunes was asking me, whether I wanted to set it up as a new phone or restore from backup. I said restore from ITunes, and it said connect to ITunes. I then pulled the cable and reconnected the phone again, but still can't get past this screen. How can I use my phone again? What could have caused ITunes to not recognize the phone? I hooked it up to the computer before I started the IOS update on Friday night, and when it was done it worked as it has always done. On the bus today I did reset my data usage and call time statistics but that didn't seem to do anything. Also, ITunes complained that there was no sim card, but I haven't let anyone touch the phone in several days, and I know I didn't take the sim card out. Can anyone help?

Update, I had to set the phone up as a new phone. After that, it synced to ITunes and complained that it couldn't read the phone, but it had shut off the compact voice which I was glad of. However, is there a way to get my messages, call history, and voicemail back? That part is as if it was a new phone. When I reset statistics, it said current period was 0 minutes, but lifetime was like 4 hours, which sounds right. How do I get this information and my recent calls back? Another problem I am having is the auto-lock setting has been set to default, despite it being different on my phone. Also, when it copied my apps, it just put them in a random order, not the order I wanted them in. Is there a way that I can quickly restore all this? I can restore apps to their correct places by moving them, but that takes quite some time, and still doesn't solve my other problems. Can anyone help? Does anyone have an idea what I should do in the future if this happens? What causes it in the first place?

Why does siri sound robotic?

Just updated my iPad iOS to 6.0.1 and now Siri's voice sounds robotic like someone's shoved something down its throat. Tried changing to different languages and they all have the same robotic tint to them. Any one have any idea what's going on? I have the most recent iPad ( iPad 3 I think)

Why Does Siri Sound fast/robotic?

I notice that with iOS7 that Siri sounds different on TV ad's and videos online, but after I updated mind does sound different but robotic, works fine and only after I bought a used iPhone 4s from a work friend and setup for my Mom to use as an iPOD her Siri voice sounds so much BETTER... like non-robotic and more natural voice, both are different from iOS6 but my phone is different not natural, I seen many posting about this problem but no real fix.
I have Apple Care and before I call or visit a store I thought ill post this?

Why is my iPhone 5s not letting me press any buttons

My iPhone 5s isn't letting me unlock it, it has a voice telling me what everything is , for example if I try to unlock my phone it says "slide to unlock iphone" and will not let me slide it. Even turning off my phone is a problem . What do I do?

Siri sounds bad

Since updating on iOS 7, Siri sounds really bad (like a computer voice). On other iPhones Siri sounds clear and natural. What's wrong with my iPhone 5?

In general comes a clean iOS install with so called compact voices. Those are the ones that sound robotic. As soon the device knows what language you are going to use, it will download the natural one. (Power and Wifi required just as with backups.)
After reading some of the rumors and assumptions in other Siri voice questions I like to add:
- the voice is generated on the device, not on Apples servers, thus a high load in the backend wont result in a bad voice quality.
- including all voices for all languages in the initial OS install packet would increase the size massively and waste space on the device you rather want to use for documents and Lapps. Downloading localizations is sensible common practice in app's. (See Where is my Water 1 from Disney on the iOS App Store for instance)

Sudden Change In Multitrack Behavior (Solved)

While mixing a session in Audition 3 today, I noticed something strange. I have a voiceover (cold voice) on track 1, which sounds fine. However, when I add a music clip on track 2, it seems to affect the track 1 volume. Track 1 plays fine at the start, but when I reach the point where the music kicks in -- where the red arrow is pointing -- the volume on track 1 drops dramatically. This has never happened before.
I haven't changed any settings, so I'm wondering if I've accidentally bumped something with my digital knee.

UPDATE: Uninstalled all audio drivers and let Windows 7 reinstall them. Problem fixed. FYI in case you encounter this.

To make matters more interesting, I swiped the Airport card from my wife's pseudo-dead G3 iBook 800 (video issue) and stuck it in my MDD 1.25...it's what I'm connected to the net on, right now. Sometimes it gets on, sometimes it doesn't.
So, in all:
MBP 2.16: Worked fine until the other day, now nothing, regardless of location.
Pismo 500: Works great, anwywhere in house.
MDD G4 w/borrowed card: Works, for the most part.

You can display more podcasts on your page, go to the main podcast page and then launch Inspector, next go to the RSS tab, In the Blog section, increase the Number of Excerpts to Show. This will increase the number of podcasts that you can display.

Ibook G3 700 purchased from Ebay...loaded with 10.4, no disks

I recently purchased an ibook 700 from ebay loaded with Tiger, however no disks were included with the computer...
what are the problems I am going to encounter down the road, not having the install disks available?
I don't know the admin password, and I'm assuming I can't reset it without the disks...do I need the admin password to install new programs?

forgot to mention that I am running mostly audio apps .... voiceover production, voice recording, etc
would like to install Logic Pro 7 on the ibook and would even be satisfied running an older version of Garageband to do one track mono recording....(I have a version of iLife 04' that I purchased a while back)
I would do all of the production on my G4 tower which is up until now has gotten the job done....I thought the ibook would be the perfect mobile/remote recorder with a portable USB audio interface.

I have a 32GB iPhone 5s on AT&T I recently installed a fresh copy of iOS 7.0.2 and now Siri does not sound like the new Siri she has the robotic voice again. I have went to Settings>General>Accessibility>Voice Over(Which is off)>Languages & Dialects>Default Dialect(Set to U.S. English) and turned enhanced voice on. I watched it download the enhanced voice. Still the same thing. I have powered off the phone and powered it back on. Siri still sounds like the siri of old. I have performed a hard reboot. Siri still sounds the same. When I first got the phone she sounded as advertised. Is there anything else I should try?

OS X 10.9 VoiceOver Utility Speech: Can't download voices

Pretty esoteric, but I've tried downloading several different voices in VoiceOver Utility and I receive a Speech Downloader popup stating "An unexpected error occurred while downloading the "Otoya" voice. Try again later."
The default Japanese voice (Compact) is really awful and I would greatly appreciate a tip toward a manual download link for one of the other Japanese voices. Or a tip about how to get the downloads to trigger properly (as they used to).
