Volume size information wrong

I think I found a concerning problem freeing large spare files.
After creating and removing a handful of sparse 200GB files (VirtualBox volumes), Finder is quite wrongly showing:
Capacity: 499.42
Available: 655.65
statfs is showing something more sane:
Filesystem     Size   Used  Avail Capacity  iused    ifree %iused  Mounted on
/dev/disk0s2  465Gi  223Gi  242Gi    48% 58462482 63465747   48%   /
inode counts seem to add up too.
neither fsck nor Disk Utilities are showing any problems with this volume. Obviously, a free count is badly wrong somewhere (does Mac OS use unmap on SSD volumes?)
So while the spare files existed, the Finder information was sane, showing a disk usage reflecting the actual allocation size (not spare file size). Upon deleting the files, the available count surpased the total volume size. I think somewhere between HFS+, SATA unmap and the SSD itself there's a potentially bad problem. My fear is at some point, used blocks are going to wrongly show up mapped into what the filesystem thinks is free space.
Had anyone else seen this?
I'll be restoring from Time Capsule as soon as I can.

  • How to get current local  file system volume sizes information from OMS?

    Hi
I know I can get this information from the table SYSMAN.MGMT$STORAGE_REPORT_LOCALFS.
But info stored in this table is not always up to date, but when going to the page em/console/monitoring/hostFilesystemOverview$target=xxxhostnamexxx$type=host$pageType=current$ctxType=Hosts the information is current.
I have accessed mentioned table in apex, from outside OMS, I would like to have current information instead of old.
    How to do that?
    Thanks

I think that there is nothing wrong with this table, just that the data is not collected every 5 minutes or so, only on a daily basis.
But as ca107207 said - when you go to the page, showing information about the files system, from the host home page - the data is up to date to the current second.
Therefore I think that OMS ask agent to send this value, but it is then not stored anywhere.
My question would be how to ask agent from outside OMS to get this information?
I have done a little reverse engineering on OMS packages and there should be a way to get this, using some procedures, pl/sql code with generating some cursors etc.
I'm not that good in pl/sql to create something like that, it would take too much time for me. I think that it can't be done without OMS at all, I just have another database with apex on the same host and apex display some information for other users about the file systems etc. It would be nice to have information about file system usage current.
    Thanks

  • Getting slice/volume size from kernel mode

Hi, my driver needs to be able to get a slice/volume size in LBs.
Until now, when I wanted to send IOCTLS in kernel mode I used the
    cdev_ioctl function.
However I'v encountered some strange problems when using this
function for disksuite devices. The DIOCINFO IOCTL works fine, however
neither DKIOCGVTOC nor DKIOCGAPART worked. The rc is 0 but the buffers
contained random garabage. Does anyone have any idea what's wrong?
    Further info:
1.On scsi or veritas volume manager devices these IOCTLS works fine, only on
devices controleld by the disksuite driver (md) am I encountering such problems.
    2.The OS is solaris 8.
3.The IOCTLS work fine from user-mode for all devices types.
4.I am using cdev_ioctl as follows:
    cdev_ioctl(hTargetDevice, /*The device dev_t*/
    ioctlCode, /*Ioctl code*/
    (intptr_t)pInputBuffer, /*The info structure*/
    FKIOCTL|FREAD, /*Kernel ioctl*/
    kcred, /*Root privileges*/
    &ioctlRval);
    Any help is appreciated.

Hi, for other peoples information - I finally figured out the problem. It was actually a faulty RAM module which I had bought. I had upgraded from 2 to 4 gb of RAM using an approved type of RAM for my particular computer. Finally I removed one module of RAM (after doing nearly everything else under the sun including trying to reinstall the operating system and wipe the computer etc) and the computer worked fine.

  • File DataTime and Size information

Is is possible in java to get the datetime stamp and size information of any exsisting file in Windows? I have looked into the File, FileReader classes and have been unable to find any methods that do this.

  • Applescript use Document size information

    HI ALL,
I am trying to put together a script that would fill up a slug with document size information:
    - Let say my document is 8.5"W x 11" H
    - Let say that my slug has a "document size" area with placeholder text, like DocWidth x DocHeight
The script would do a find and replace of "DocHeight" by the value of the Height of my document.
Here is an abstract of my applescript as it stands:
......... (there is more before this section: I set document size to a random size, 6"x6", then tells it to put some bleed, then a slug area, then to import my slug that is a snippet)
    tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
set myWidth to page width of document preferences of myDocument
set myHeight to page height of document preferences of myDocument
set find text preferences to nothing
set change text preferences to nothing
set find what of find text preferences to "DocHeight"
set change to of change text preferences to myHeight
        tell active document
            set myFoundItems to change text
        end tell
    end tell
Now my script works, but it gives me the following error:
Adobe InDesign CS4 got an error: Invalid value for set property 'change to'. Expected string or nothing, but received 6.0.
Does anyone know waht I am missing here ?
    Thank you for any help!!!!

Change to wants text, not a number. Try:
set change to of change text preferences to (myHeight as text)
I'd also want to focus that find/change just on the slug area. So if it's in a text frame called "Slug", you'd do something like:
set myFoundItems to change text parent story of text frame "Slug"

You can change the case sensitivity of the sparsebundle.. but I really doubt the error is real.
    See A8 here.
    http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
The sparsebundle should have case sensitivity turned on.
I cannot even fathom how it could have changed.
Let me recommend before you start fooling around with the sparsebundle.
    Do a full network start.
Power everything off.. start up modem.. wait 2min.. power up the TC.. wait 2min.. power up any other network gear like switches.. wait..
Now power up the computer and try it.
If the error is the same.. I would do a factory reset of the TC.. give it all short names, no spaces and pure alphanumeric. Then reset TM .. see A4 in the same reference as above.. and do a verify of the backups.. A5 above and try the backup again..
    No luck..
Then erase the TC and start over.. it is sometimes necessary as TM does get itself in a knot.

  • Changing Volume Size

I partitioned a disk a while back into two volumes. Now I'd like to change the volume size and it will be sort of a pain (though not completely impossible) to erase (temporarily move) the stuff on the disk. Is there a snappy utility where I can do this? I'm just reading help in the Disk Utility and it talks about combining two volumes if i don't mind erasing the stuff on the second volume, but I can't even seem to invoke that option ('partition' seems not to be a choice as help suggests).
Anyway, the second volume has a great deal of empty space and i'd love to balance it more OR just get rid of the second partition and I am hoping not to have to shuffle 100's of Gig of stuff here and there.
    Please advise.
    Thanks!

  • Volume size changing?

    Hi,
I'm running TM on my Mail server. Oddly when TM is switched on i get an odd pattern with the drive it's backing up. Almost like it's a log file that fills up and then resets. If TM is turned off this doesn't happen. (see below, drive in question is the Blue graph)
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v282/darrensen/Screenshot2010-09-20at092356.jp g
TM is also backing up the red graph.
The blue graph is the primary drive where the OS is installed. The red graph is on a partition which is where our Mail store is kept.
Can anyone explain why this change in volume size happens and how i stop it?
    Thanks for your time.

  • MAXDB log volume size

    Hi
I am offloading the content in DMS_CONT1_CD1 table (size 320GB) from ECC system to Content Server based on Maxdb database using Program RSIRPIRL(note 389366). I have installed maxdb instance with 18 data volumes of each 18GB each on content server.
I am not sure how much size should I allocate for log volumes for 320GB database to avoid log full situation during content offload? Content sever will be running with LOG WRITING ON.
Unix team will take the backup with TSM tool after offload is completed.
Is it advisable to put database on LOG OVERWRITE MODE for large data transfer? Please advice.

    > I am offloading the content in DMS_CONT1_CD1 table (size 320GB) from ECC system to Content Server based on Maxdb database using Program RSIRPIRL(note 389366). I have installed maxdb instance with 18 data volumes of each 18GB each on content server.
    > Is it advisable to put database on LOG OVERWRITE MODE for large data transfer? Please advice.
Yes, you might use this feature for your data loading.
All you've to keep in mind here is that if the data load fails in between, you've to restore the content server database to the state before the loading started (there is no automatic resume-functionality available in the data loader).
A nice option to use here is the MaxDB Snapshot.
Just take a backup and a snapshot right before starting to load the data.
In case the database crashes in-between the data load and there is some physical damage to the data volumes, you can use the backup to restore the database.
In case of less severe problems, where you just want to start over the load, you can easily restore the snapshot (which is done in seconds) and restart the data load.
For the log volume size - most customers just go by one log volume of 1GB.
For a content server (and most other applications) that's enough by far and, due to the way MaxDB handles log data and volumes, there is no advantage in having multiple log volumes!
So stick with one as it keeps things easy.
    regards,
    Lars

  • Extend volume - Storage Pools - iSCSI - "Extend failed" // "Error extending volume: Size Not Supported"

    Hi,
I've created a storage pools of 44x 1TB SAS, my storage pool name is "DAS" with 39.1TB (35.8 TB Free Space)
I have a virtual disk named "iSCSI_DFS", Simple, Thin, 20TB with 3.05 TB Allocated
I've created volumes on that disk, NTFS, Thin, Different size.
I create iSCSI VIRTUAL DISKS on those Volumes, same size (my volumes are full)
I want to "extend" my volumes size... I click on my volume, Extend Volume, enter a new size (current is 162GB so I enter 200 and select GB) and click OK
The Volume status turn to "Extend failed" with "Error extending volume: Size Not Supported"
Can you help? I need to change my volumes size...
    Thx

I also could not get my partition to extend using the new Windows Server 2012 interface.  Did you try to extend volume from the "computer management", "disk management" console?  Get there from Administrator Tools - Computer Management.  I
was able to extend my partition only from there.  You need to first make sure you have available space on the disk.  I had to delete an empty volume first before I was able to extend the partition.  Hope this helps.   Anthony :)
    Thx !!
While in the Computer Management, I realised that my Disk was "Basic" and not "Dynamics", Extending using the Disk Management suggest to switch to Dynamics, and it's now working.
The error in the Server Manager should be "Unable to Extend : Your disk is Basic" or something like.
The Disk is a virtual disk on my Storage Pools.!!!
