VPN Client, PIX, sh uauth
We use PIX Vers. 6.3.5 for terminate VPN Clients. When I do the command show uauth, I saw some user with ip-address from loacl pool and some other with their global address. Why?
As far as I know, this is possible for the update of client version, not for the password change

Problem with VPN Client and PIX 7.0(5)
Hi, i have a problem configuring my pix 525 7.0(5) as a remote vpn server. I already configure the pix
sollowing this instructions (http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6120/products_configuration_example09186a008060f25c.shtml)
and i can establish a vpn using CISCO VPN Client; but i can't reach any resource from my inside network or any network define in the PIX.
I think that could be a missing nat or an acl; but i have do a lot of research but i can figure out the solution.
This is the configuration i apply

Which ports to open in PIX for outgoing Cisco VPN client connections ?
I have Cisco vpn clients behind the PIX and i want them to connect to a vpn 3005 which i behind another PIX . Can anybody tell me which ports i have to open on both the PIX firewalls ?
It depends on how you have deployed your VPN Remote Access users.
By default, if you enable IPSec-Over-TCP or IPSec-over-UDP, then port 10000 is used for both, these methods are Cisco Proprietary and can be changed.
If you use NAT-T (NAT Traversal), the Standards-based implementation, then it uses UDP-4500).
either way, the operation of the VPN depends on:
1) Whether these service have been enable on the VPN Concentrator
2) Enabling the relevant transport settings on the VPN Client connection Properties.
Regarding the PIX infront of the VPNC3005, you will need to allow these above ports inbound to your VPNC3005 Public interface.
Locally, it depends if you filter outbound connections through your PIX. If you don't, then the PIX will allow the connection for the VPN Client attempting to access the remote VPNC3005 -
PIX version 6.3 and VPN Client
I have an old PIX, running version 6.3. Its version cannot be upgraded due to hardware limitation.
I am setting up IPSEC VPN, with split-tunnel disabled.
However, the client was not able to connect to Internet.
Below is part of the configuration.
ip local pool internetvpn1 10.30.11.1-10.30.11.7
vpngroup internetvpn1address-pool internetvpn1
vpngroup internetpub1 dns-server 123.4.5.6
vpngroup internetpub1 idle-time 86400
vpngroup internetpub1 password *********
I can login to VPN Client, but when I do nslookup, PIX will show log as below
110001: No route to 123.4.5.6 from 10.30.11.1
110001: No route to 123.4.5.6 from 10.30.11.1
Anybody have any idea?I just found out that in version 6.x, traffic cannot pass through when the security level are the same.
For VPN Client, user traffic came from outside interface.
If split-tunneling is disabled and user want to access Internet, it has to go out from outside interface as well.
As "same-security-traffic permit inter-interface" is not available in 6.x, it become impossilbe for VPN client to access Internet, when split-tunneling is disabled.
Am I correct? -
Subnet mask 255.255.255.255 assigned to VPN client - can't ping LAN
Hi,
I configured PIX 501 with PPTP VPN to connect to the small office (PIX FW, Win 2000 Server, several Win clients, LAN IP 10.0.0.X/24):
ip local pool mypool 10.0.0.101-10.0.0.105
vpdn group mygroup accept dialin pptp
vpdn group mygroup ppp authentication mschap
vpdn group mygroup ppp encryption mppe 128 required
vpdn group mygroup client configuration address local mypool
vpdn group mygroup client configuration dns 10.0.0.15
vpdn group mygroup pptp echo 60
vpdn group mygroup client authentication local
vpdn username xxxx password *********
vpdn enable outside
I can connect to the office using Win VPN client, but I can't ping any hosts in the office network. I suspect that the reason for that is subnet mask assigned to the VPN client: 255.255.255.255. ipconfig of the VPN client:
PPP adapter Office:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.0.101
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :
Default GW is missing too, but I think this is not the main problem.
Any way, what is wrong with my config? How to fix subnet mask assigned to clients? Or may be my assumption is wrong and this mask is ok? What is wrong then?
Any input will be greatly appreciated!
GeorgeThanks for the prompt reply.

There are remnants of old config, I just recently took over this network, some lines look odd to me, but I did not touch what works. VPN config is all mine.
PIX internal 10.0.0.23 - is a gateway for the network. DNS server in LAN - 10.0.0.15.
I've been reading about the problem and came across several posts that this subnet mask is normal, but it puzzles me - how can this host communicate with anyone else if there is no room for other hosts in this network (according to the mask)?!
Thanks again!

Configure a VPN client and Site to Site VPN tunnel
Hi, I'm setting up a test network between 2 sites. SiteA has a 515E PIX and SiteB has a 501 PIX. Both sites have been setup with a site to site VPN tunnel, see SiteA config below. I also require that remote clients using Cisco VPN client 3.6 be able to connect into SiteA, be authenticated, get DHCP info and connect to hosts inside the network. However, when I add these config lines, see below, to SiteA PIX it stops the vpn tunnel to SiteB. However, the client can conect and do as needed so that part of my config is correct but I cannot see why the site to site vpn tunnel is then no longer.
SiteA config with working VPN tunnel to SiteB:

VPN client unable to access Internert via split tunneling.
I have split tunneling configured on a PIX 515. The remote VPN client connects to the PIX fine and can ping hosts on the internal LAN, but cannot access the Internet. Am I missing something? My config as per below.
Also, I don't see any secured routes on the VPN client via Statistics (screen shot below)
Any advice is much appreciated.

PIX-A-250#Hello Jennifer,
I can ping the 192.168.88.0/24 (host 88.3) from my PIX fine. The 88 subnet hangs off a 2950 switch. This is my diagram.
My configs are as follows. Please note I have left out the suggested lines of config from above as they had no effect.
Very much appreciate your time and effort with my issue.
Many thanks,
Rob

Help needed to connect to remote PPTP VPN via PIX 515e
Hello,
A user in our office needs to connect to a client's remote PPTP VPN but can't connect. The user is running Windows 7. We have a Cisco PIX 515e firewall that is running PIX Version 6.3(3) - this is what our user is having to go through to try and make the connection to the client's remote VPN.
The client's network guys have come back and said the issue is at our side. They say that they can see some of our traffic but not all of it. The standard error is shown below, and they say it's symptomatic of the client-side firewall not allowing PPTP traffic:
"A connection between the VPN server and the VPN client XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX has been established, but the VPN connection cannot be completed. The most common cause for this is that a firewall or router between the VPN server and the VPN client is not configured to allow Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE) packets (protocol 47). Verify that the firewalls and routers between your VPN server and the Internet allow GRE packets. Make sure the firewalls and routers on the user's network are also configured to allow GRE packets. If the problem persists, have the user contact the Internet service provider (ISP) to determine whether the ISP might be blocking GRE packets."
I have very little firewall experience and absolutely no Cisco experience I'm afraid. From looking at the PIX config I can see the following line:
fixup protocol pptp 1723.
Does this mean that the PPTP protcol is enabled on our firewall? Is this for both incoming and outgoing traffic?
I can see no reference to GRE 47 in the PIX config. Can anyone advise me what I should look for to see if this has been enabled or not?
I apologise again for my lack of knowledge. Any help or advice would be very gratefully received.
RosHi Eugene,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. Please see our full PIX config below. I've XX'd out names and IP addresses as I'm never comfortable posting those type of details in a public forum. I hope that the information below is still sufficient for you.
Thanks again for your help,
Ros

Remote Access VPN Clients Cannot Access inside LAN
I have been asked to set up remote access VPN on an ASA 5505 that I previously had no invlovement with. I have set it up the VPN using the wizard, they way I normally do, but the clients have no access to anything in the inside subnet, not even the inside interface IP address of the ASA. Thay can ping each other. The remote access policy below that I am working on is labeled VPNPHONE, address pool 172.16.20.1-10. I do not need split tunneling to be enabled. The active WAN interface is the one labeled outside_cable.

: endHi,
You have your "group-policy" set so that you have excluding some networks from being tunneled.
In this access-list named Local_LAN_Access you specify "0.0.0.0"
Doesnt this mean you are excluding all networks from being tunneled? In other words no traffic goes to your tunnel.
This access-list should only contain your local LAN network from where you are connecting with the VPN Client. If you dont need to access anything on your local LAN while having the VPN on, you don't even need this setting on. You could just tunnel all traffic instead of excluding some networks.

ASA 5505 VPN client LAN access problem
Hello,
I'm not expert in ASA and routing so I ask some support the following case.
There is a Cisco VPN client (running on Windows 7) and an ASA5505.
The goals are client could use remote gateway on ASA for Skype and able to access the devices in ASA inside interface.
The Skype works well but I cannot access devices in the interface inside via VPN connection.
Can you please check my following config and give me advice to correct NAT or VPN settings?

Any ideas what I need to add to get the vpn client to be able to ping the router and clients?
Thanks.I tried that and it didn't work. As for upgrading the ASA version, I'd like to but this is an old router and I don't have a support contract with Cisco anymore, so I can't access the latest firmware.

: endHello Wayne,
Can you use a different subnet range than the internal interface, this could cause you a LOT of issues and hours on troubleshooting, so use a dedicated different Ip address range...
I can see that the local Pool range is included into the inside interface Ip address subnet range, change that and the related config ( NAT,etc, ) and let us know what happens,
Regards,
Julio

VPN Client Tunnel Connection Pix506E
Situation: Trying to connect to PiX 506e for vpn client tunnel. The tunnel shows the following when using the sho isa sa command:
qm_idle 0 0
then after about 3-4 minutes the client workstaiton is receiving error: Reason 412: the remote peer is no longer responding
The same workstation on the same internet connection from the home office is able to connect to an ASA 5505 vpn client with no problems.
I have enabled: nat traversal on the pix506e and tried serveral options on the client side.
The Pix506E also has site to site vpn tunnels that are working without any problems.
Pix Software version: 6.3.5
Any ideas?Try to connect from a different internet connection and see if you are having the same issue.
Also, turn on the logs on the vpn client and see why it's failing. -
VPN Clients can't access internal LAN
Hello - I have seen a few other threads on this issue, but can't seem to fix mine. I have a PIX 506e. My VPN clients can connect, they get a DHCP address from our internal server no problem. But the clients can not ping me or anything else on the LAN. The clients are connecting ipsec. I know I must be missing something simple here. Here is my config. Any help would be great
Change the VPN Pool address to something else for example 192.168.10.0/24 etc. Then try and let me know. There could be ip overlap here.
