VSAM (COBOL Structure) to Oracle Table
We have to convert COBOL structures to Oracle table.
COBOL structures are related to VSAM datasets.
Is there any tool or steps to convert the COBOL structure to equivalent Oracle table.
We tried of converting manually, but it involves lot of REDIFINES , OCCURS, and sub level etc.
Can any one guide me?
This website refers to Oracle Application Server 10.1.2, which can be downloaded here on OTN, but I don't know if there's the option the download only these adapters. Complete Application Server is very large.
By the way I've just seen this EDA/SQL gateway seems to be completely desupported. We used it a few years ago to migrate legacy applications.

I am doing a one Senario which is Custom idoc and Custom Tables of oracle they both have same fields and Same Sturucte does it possible from to do 1:1 mapping shall i process these in 1:n.Need a sugestion in these How i can slove these problem. IF some from india will give their cont pho to my mail id [email protected] i can call them and dicuss about these problem..

RajHi Raj,
you scenario can be:
R/3 -> XI -> JDBC
The flow is asynchronous - so you dont have any responses. If you want to use BPM/acknowledgements to catch errors have a look to <a href="/people/udo.martens/blog/2005/09/30/one-logical-system-name-for-serveral-bpm-acknowledgements Logical System Name for serveral BPM Acknowledgements</a>
You can split the IDoc (<a href="/people/jin.shin/blog/2006/02/07/multi-mapping-without-bpm--yes-it146s-possible without BPM - Yes, its possible!</a>) to several JDBC messages or put serveral statements into one message (

Hello friends,
Can you please help me with the following requirements?
I have a xml structure like this
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<data>
<var name="document">
<string>Sales Order</String>
</var>
<var name="results">
<recordset rowcount="2">
<field name="sales_num">
<string>12345</string>
<string>A0192</string>
</field>
<field name="ord_qty">
<string>10</string>
<string>50</string>
</field>
</recordset>
</var>
</data>
I have to read this xml file and copy the data to the Oracle table
Sales Table
CREATE TABLE SALES
SALES_NUM VARCHAR2(20 BYTE),
ORD_QTY NUMBER(4)
Expected Result
x. Sales Num Ord Qty
1. 12345 10
2. A0192 50
I tried to follow the approach provided in this link http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/9i/ParseXMLDocuments9i.php . But it doesn't work with the XML structure I have.
Thanks,
Maheshplease let me know the solution as well. i need this

Using OleDbDataAdapter Update with InsertCommands and getting blocking locks on Oracle table
The following code snippet shows the use of OleDbDataAdapter with InsertCommands. This code is producing many inserts on the Oracle table and is now suffering from contention... all on the same table. How does the OleDbDataAdapter produce
inserts from a dataset... what characteristics do these inserts inherent in terms of batch behavior... or do they naturally contend for the same resource.
oc.Open();
for (int i = 0; i < xImageId.Count; i++)
// Create the oracle adapter using a SQL which will not return any actual rows just the structure

"DIRECT_INVOICING, EXCLUDE_FLG, DTTM_CREATED, DTTM_MODIFIED, IMAGE_DATA, PROCESS_INSTANCE FROM sysadm.PS_RI_INV_PDF_MERG WHERE 1 = 2", oc);

Need help for SQL SELECT query to fetch XML records from Oracle tables having CLOB field
Hello,
I have a scenario wherein i need to fetch records from several oracle tables having CLOB fields(which is holding XML) and then merge them logically to form a hierarchy XML. All these tables are related with PK-FK relationship. This XML hierarchy is having 'OP' as top-most root node and ‘DE’ as it’s bottom-most node with One-To-Many relationship. Hence, Each OP can have multiple GM, Each GM can have multiple DM and so on.
Table structures are mentioned below:
OP:
Name Null Type
OP_NBR NOT NULL NUMBER(4) (Primary Key)
OP_DESC VARCHAR2(50)
OP_PAYLOD_XML CLOB
GM:
Name Null Type
GM_NBR NOT NULL NUMBER(4) (Primary Key)
GM_DESC VARCHAR2(40)
OP_NBR NOT NULL NUMBER(4) (Foreign Key)
GM_PAYLOD_XML CLOB
DM:
Name Null Type
DM_NBR NOT NULL NUMBER(4) (Primary Key)
DM_DESC VARCHAR2(40)
GM_NBR NOT NULL NUMBER(4) (Foreign Key)
DM_PAYLOD_XML CLOB
DE:
Name Null Type
DE_NBR NOT NULL NUMBER(4) (Primary Key)
DE_DESC NOT NULL VARCHAR2(40)
DM_NBR NOT NULL NUMBER(4) (Foreign Key)
DE_PAYLOD_XML CLOB
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
SELECT
j.op_nbr||'||'||j.op_desc||'||'||j.op_paylod_xml AS op_paylod_xml,
i.gm_nbr||'||'||i.gm_desc||'||'||i.gm_paylod_xml AS gm_paylod_xml,
h.dm_nbr||'||'||h.dm_desc||'||'||h.dm_paylod_xml AS dm_paylod_xml,
g.de_nbr||'||'||g.de_desc||'||'||g.de_paylod_xml AS de_paylod_xml,
FROM
DE g, DM h, GM i, OP j
WHERE
h.dm_nbr = g.dm_nbr(+) and
i.gm_nbr = h.gm_nbr(+) and
j.op_nbr = i.op_nbr(+)
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I am using above SQL select statement for fetching the XML records and this gives me all related xmls for each entity in a single record(OP, GM, DM. DE). Output of this SQL query is as below:
Current O/P:
<resultSet>
<Record1>
<OP_PAYLOD_XML1>
<GM_PAYLOD_XML1>
<DM_PAYLOD_XML1>
<DE_PAYLOD_XML1>
</Record1>
<Record2>
<OP_PAYLOD_XML2>
<GM_PAYLOD_XML2>
<DM_PAYLOD_XML2>
<DE_PAYLOD_XML2>
</Record2>
<RecordN>
<OP_PAYLOD_XMLN>
<GM_PAYLOD_XMLN>
<DM_PAYLOD_XMLN>
<DE_PAYLOD_XMLN>
</RecordN>
</resultSet>
Now i want to change my SQL query so that i get following output structure:
<resultSet>
<Record>
<OP_PAYLOD_XML1>
<GM_PAYLOD_XML1>
<GM_PAYLOD_XML2> .......
<GM_PAYLOD_XMLN>
<DM_PAYLOD_XML1>
<DM_PAYLOD_XML2> .......
<DM_PAYLOD_XMLN>
<DE_PAYLOD_XML1>
<DE_PAYLOD_XML2> .......
<DE_PAYLOD_XMLN>
</Record>
<Record>
<OP_PAYLOD_XML2>
<GM_PAYLOD_XML1'>
<GM_PAYLOD_XML2'> .......
<GM_PAYLOD_XMLN'>
<DM_PAYLOD_XML1'>
<DM_PAYLOD_XML2'> .......
<DM_PAYLOD_XMLN'>
<DE_PAYLOD_XML1'>
<DE_PAYLOD_XML2'> .......
<DE_PAYLOD_XMLN'>
</Record>
<resultSet>
Appreciate your help in this regard!Hi,
A few questions :
How's your first query supposed to give you an XML output like you show ?
Is there something you're not telling us?
What's the content of, for example, <OP_PAYLOD_XML1> ?
I don't think it's a good idea to embed the node level in the tag name, it would make much sense to expose that as an attribute.
What's the db version BTW? -
How to load csv file in oracle table
Hi,
i have csv files to which i want to load the csv file data and table structure in oracle. my csv files on the window machine but database is runing on ibm aix.so how to do it please any one can help me about. thanks a lot in advance
i know th syntax below
$sqlldr userid=username/password control=<filename> log=<log filename>Hello,
Yes, with SQL*Loader you can do it.
But first you have to create a Table into your database with columns and datatype matching
the content of you "csv" file.
Then, you'll have to prepare a control file and use the option fields terminated by "," as it's
a "csv" format.
Then, you could execute your statement.
Please, find enclosed a link with some example about SQL*Loader and "csv" file:

Hope this help.

How to extract data from Oracle Table to an Oracle XMLtype field
All,
I'm very new with ODI and I'm looking for a way to implement the following scenario:
I have the Oracle table A, already mapped to Data Model A. This table has the following fields:
field X (PK)
field Y
field Z
field W
I have a table B, already mapped to Data Model B. This table has the following fields:
field X (PK)
field V (XMLType)
I want to extract the data from Table A to a XML file with the following structure:
<X> yada yada yada </X>
<Y> yada yada yada </Y>
<Z> yada yada yada </Z>
<W> yada yada yada </W>
and then insert this file into the field V of Table B. How can I do that?
TIA,

How to read a CSV file and Insert data into an Oracle Table
Hi All,
I have a Clob file as a in parameter in my PROC. . File is comma separated.need procedure that would parse this CLOB variable and populate in oracle table .
Please let me some suggestions on this.

@OP,
I have a Clob file as a in parameter in my PROC. . File is comma separated.need procedure that would parse this CLOB variable and populate in oracle table .You don't have a "clob file" as there's no such thing. CLOB is a datatype for storing large character based objects. A file is something on the operating system's filesystem.
So, why have you stored comma seperated data in a CLOB?
Where did this data come from? If it came from a file, why didn't you use SQL*Loader or, even better, External Tables to read and parse the data into structured format when populating the database with it?
If you really do have to parse a CLOB of data to pull out the comma seperated values, then you're going to have to write something yourself to do that, reading "lines" by looking for the newline character(s), and then breaking up the "lines" into the component data by looking for commas within it, using normal string functions such as INSTR and SUBSTR or, if necessary, REGEXP_INSTR and REGEXP_SUBSTR. If you have string data that contains commas but uses double quotes around the string, then you'll also have the added complexity of ignoring commas within such string data.
Like I say... it's much easier with SQL*Loader of External Tables as these are designed to parse such CSV type data. -
Use of Logical Partition in a Oracle Table...
What is the use of Logical Partition in a Oracle Table as Target. Techincal Manual does not say any significance.
My question is:
If the Table has no partitions and if we add Logical Partitions using Data Service, what purpose will it serve?
We are planning to load 30 Million records a day into a Oracle Table. As of now the Target table has no partition and we are planning to have that soon. Is there a better way to load the data into Target Table, using Partition, Bulk Loading(API), Degree of Parallelism, etc., We have not dealt data of that volume, inputs are highly appreciated.
Regards.
Santosh.Initial Value:
Indicator that NOT NULL is forced for this field
Use
Select this flag if a field to be inserted in the database is to be filled with initial values. The initial value used depends on the data type of the field.
Please note that fields in the database for which the this flag is not set can also be filled with initial values.
When you create a table, all fields of the table can be defined as NOT NULL and filled with an initial value. The same applies when converting the table. Only when new fields are added or inserted, are these filled with initial values. An exception is key fields. These are always filled automatically with initial values.
Restrictions and notes:
The initial value cannot be set for fields of data types LCHR, LRAW, and RAW. If the field length is greater than 32, the initial flag cannot be set for fields of data type NUMC.
If a new field is inserted in the table and the initial flag is set, the complete table is scanned on activation and an UPDATE is made to the new field. This can be very time-consuming.
If the initial flag is set for an included structure, this means that the attributes from the structure are transferred. That is, exactly those fields which are marked as initial in the definition have this attribute in the table as well.
hope it helps,

Basic doubt about Primary Key/Foreign Key in Oracle Tables
Hi,
I have a doubt whether Primary Keys/Foreign Keys are allowed in Oracle. Some of the people I know are telling me that Oracle does not encourage having Primary Keys/Foreign keys in its database tables.
However if I go to the ETRM and look for information about some of the Oracle Tables, I am informed that Primary Keys do exist. However I am being told that ETRM is not a reliable way of having correct information about table structure.
It would be great if any one of you provides me with some insight in this. Any pointers to a document would be great.
ThanksIt is not that PK/FKs are disallowed in Oracle Apps (there are some on the standard Oracle Apps tables), but they are typically not used. I am not positive what the logic behind this is, but my guess is that it was party due to the earlier versions of Oracle Apps pre-dating declarative database referential integrity in Oracle DB and also on performance issues with the standard referential integrity with the earlier versions of declarative database referential integrity.
As far as eTRM is concerned - I understood that the data is based on a design repository rather than a physical Oracle Apps DB. So all of the information in there is logically correct, but not necessarily enforced via the standard Oracle DB declarative referential integrity (rather by the application code or APIs). -
Is there a preferred format of XML that can be laoded into an Oracle table?
XML files vary quite a bit. From mere fragments to file carrying schema, etc. What is the preferred format of an XML file that can be loaded into an Oracle table assuming that the Schema agrees with the table structure.
It does not seem to load an XML file even with W3C namespace and all.
Krishnaswamy JayaramWith XE there is XML support in the database but no XQuery, JNDI, or Servlet support.
If you give a specific example it could be helpful, here are simple write and read tests on XE;

Loading xml file of 1GB in a oracle table
Could any one help me out , how can i load a xml file of large size in a oracle table
using pl/sql developer.
ThanksHi,
I am also trying to process large XML file but getting the following error. The code works fine if the smaller size file. Could you please help me how can I process and upload the XML file of more than 10MB size into an oracle table. The table structure does not match at all to the xml tags. I am trying with the following code.
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-04031: unable to allocate 2520 bytes of shared memory ("large
pool","unknown object","session heap","koh-kghu session heap")
ORA-06512: at "VMI_USER.PKG_VMI_FILE_UPLOAD", line 978

I am using Oracle 10g and having the following method to process the xml file to upload it's contents in the database table conditionally:
PROCEDURE pr_process_xml_file(pin_xml_file_name IN VARCHAR2)
IS
l_bfile BFILE;
l_clob CLOB;
l_parser dbms_xmlparser.parser;
l_doc dbms_xmldom.domdocument;
l_nl dbms_xmldom.domnodelist;
l_n dbms_xmldom.domnode;
l_nl_party dbms_xmldom.domnodelist;
l_n_party dbms_xmldom.domnode;
l_nl_nad dbms_xmldom.domnodelist;
l_n_nad dbms_xmldom.domnode;
l_nl_line dbms_xmldom.domnodelist;
l_n_line dbms_xmldom.domnode;
begin
-- the xml file to process
l_bfile := BFileName('DATA_DIR',pin_xml_file_name);
-- Create temporary lob
dbms_lob.createtemporary(l_clob, cache=>FALSE);
-- open xml file in readonly mode
dbms_lob.OPEN(l_bfile, dbms_lob.lob_readonly);
-- load the file contents in the clob
dbms_lob.loadfromfile(l_clob,l_bfile,dbms_lob.getlength(l_bfile));
-- close the xml file
dbms_lob.CLOSE(l_bfile);
-- create a parser
l_parser := dbms_xmlparser.newparser;
-- parse the document and create a new DOM document
dbms_xmlparser.parseclob(l_parser,l_clob);
l_doc := dbms_xmlparser.getdocument(l_parser);
-- free resources associated with the parser now it is no longer required
dbms_lob.freetemporary(l_clob);
dbms_xmlparser.freeparser(l_parser);
-- get a list of all the DOCUMENT nodes in the document using the XPATH systax
l_nl := xslprocessor.selectnodes(xmldom.makenode(l_doc),'/TRADING/DOCUMENT');
-- loop thru the list and create a DOCUMENT record
FOR cur_doc IN 0 .. xmldom.getlength(l_nl) - 1
LOOP
.. here I process the contents of file tag by tag and load them in the stagging table first
END LOOP;
.. Here I load the data from stagging table to target oracle table.
xmldom.freedocument(l_doc);
end;
This works fine if the size of the xml file is smaller like 1-2 MB but not for large file.
Please help.
Thanks - Pawan
