VTS Files

I am trying to copy a portion of a previously burned DVD to a new DVD. The way I accomplish this is to use mgeg streamclip, and make a movie file, then use the movie file in iDVD.
The downside is you are uncompressing and then recompressing a video so many times the quality starts to degrade. Can you just take the VTS file and use those somehow so your not loosing any quality. I don't need to edit any portions of the series of files VTS021.VOB - VTS024.VOB
Anyone have any suggestions?

I tinkered around a bit and I did get it to work. Here is the situation I had, and here is what I did.
I had an old DVD of a project I did 6 months ago containing two videos. I wanted to update the titles on the beginning of a short video, but wanted the second video to remain unchanged, so I used mpeg stream clip and made a file that I edited in final cut, then I took that file to iDVD to export a disk image . I then created a new folder to put to copy the contents of the old dvd(the video ts folder) then took the VTS file from that newly created disk image and swaped it with the old DVD VTS file and then took the whole thing and made a new disk image using DVD Imager.
The dvd is working great and I never had to uncompress and recompress the second portion of my DVD with no loss in quality

  • Combining vts files

I just got a new computer and have had to load all my programs from the start. (GRRRRRRR) just about have them all back, but I used to have a free program that would combine my vts files. does anybody know the name of a good program, I forgot the name, I had put a renamed it on my old computer which is now in windows heaven, or **** depending on which side of the Mac/Window line you are standing, but anyway, need a program to combine them all.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Convert DVD (VTS files) to play on N97 using MPEG ...

I have used settings such as:
mpg4, 800kbps, 640x360, aac audio @ 128kbps. The most ive got on the n97 is audio playing with strange long streakey lines as the video.
Mpeg streamclip is a free download. Please can anyone help? Also, is there another way to compress VTS files to use on n97. Using Quicktime pro, i can set the 'Baseline profile' in mp4 settings, which i believe makes a difference so maybe i should export as mpg2 in streamclip, and export in QTP

    I am a MAC* user with a Nokia n97 - oh dear
*Mac is short for Macintosh, a computer made by a company called Apple.

I'm not familar with VTS files or Streamclip so it's difficult to know what could be the problem.
MPEG-4 files should be fairly compatible, the problem is if you use AVC (H264) codecs then it doesn't work.
There are a number of video converters for Mac.
Some more details about the converted file would help.
    Like:Container type
    Framerate
    Codec level
    etc.
Also is the source interleaved or progressive and how are you setting the conversion.
640K Should be enough for everybody

  • Export VTS Files

    Good Morning,
Is there anyway after exporting from DVD Studio Pro, that enables you to compress the file, (very small). That will leave the menu intact and working?
I created a menu for a show and I needed to convert to a flash file, the clip is intact, but no menu
I have tried many many different ways to accomplish this using different Combinations of compressor,FCP, Toast and Quicktime all updated versions,
    Any suggestions
    Best,
    Stu

The quickest and easiest approach is to use SQL*Plus.
    spool "someFile.txt"
    SELECT col1 || '|' || col2 || '|' || col3
FROM someTablewill generate a pipe-delimited text file called someFile.txt. Depending on the size of your data and the nature of the query (i.e. do you need to do this with a bunch of different queries), and the timing constraints, you could also write a simple JDBC or OCI application to dump the data. I seem to recall Tom Kyte having a script on asktom.oracle.com that will use utl_file to dump a delimited text file, but that's going to be the slowest option.

I recently had some 8mm film transferred to DVD. I am trying to edit the film clips using Premier Elements 4.0. so I can reburn the films on a single BluRay disc. Some of the film clips copy into the project but others don't. I tried copying the VOB filed onto my hard drive and then changing the file extensions on the VOB files to MPEG but this was no help. Some of the VOB files contain numerous film clips but my software does not appear to be able to recognize them as such. I need to know if replacing my old Premier Elements with the new Version 13 would solve this problem or not. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    What do you have now.....
What computer operating system do you have?
We can go into the finer points of source and your intentions, but for now it would appear that you are using SD 4:3 source media to get to a HD 16:9 result. Lots to discuss in this regard.
What was given to you on the DVD disc? DVD-VIDEO 4:3 or something else?
If DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, you should expect to find on the disc a folder named VIDEO_TS. That is your target for your video files.
If you were given a DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, then all you want from it are the video files, specifically
VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VOB, and so on through that series until possibly getting to
VTS_02_1.VOB, and so on. How many files you have beyond the VTS_01_1.VOB file will depend on the size of the DVD-VIDEO.
Does the above scenario apply to you?
The alternative might be someone giving a DVD disc (data disc) which contains just the VTS files mentioned which were copied from
the VIDEO_TS Folder. So, you do not get the whole VIDEO_TS Folder, just the essential video files. Does this scenario apply to you.
I see no need to replace your Premiere Elements 4 with a later version unless you have a huge project and need a later version that will be a 64 bit application running specifically on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit computer.
Consider...Premiere Elements 4 and if you have DVD-VIDEO on DVD....
    1. Place the DVD disc in the burner tray
    2. Open Premiere Elements 4 and set the project preset for NTSC DV Standard (assuming you are working in a NTSC setup)
    3. Go to
    Get Media
"DVD, Digital Camera, Mobile Phone, Hard Drive Camcorder, Card Reader"
"Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" and its Advanced dialog.
Set the Source in the latter dialog for the drive which has your DVD disc inserted in its tray
You should see your VTS_01_1.VOB thumbnail in the "Adobe Premiere Elements - Media Downloader" Advanced dialog.
With this VOB selected, click on Get Media to get the file from there into the project.
    Should work fine.
Complications may be involved if the people who processed your footage gave you something other what is described above.
Please review and consider, and then we can plan our project strategy accordingly.
    Thank you.

  • Simulation works fine, VTS wrong... :(

    Hi all.
I have a dvd 9 project, simulation is working fine,
but when I make VTS file, it's all wrong.
Menu doens't loop properly, it goes to the wrong menu.
    Anyone has any clue??
    Thank you.

Because I have audio set up menu, so going back and forth between stereo
and 5.1, it will resume to wherever I was.
ex: move resume 1, jump to concert
and same thing for song selection menu and bonus menu..
Concert works fine, but Song selection menu is the one all messed up on Build..

  • Coverting DVD to QT file for web encoding

Is it possible to convert a DVD (-R) which I produced in idvd, to a QT file as I have deleted the origional imovie file on my HD

Since you were asking about a DVD with recorded material, the VOBs naturally are on the suspect DVD.
VOB (Video OBject) is just a fancy name for MPEG-2 video. You can rename a VOB to .MPG or .MPEG and it still plays.
Load the DVD. You can leave the DVD player which will auto-launch, going or not, however it is handy to find the title and chapter you want as you can scroll through the display to see those in the controller by clicking on the word title or the word chapter as the case may be.
Go to finder, select the DVD - the two folders on it are in the finder window. Open the VIDEO_TS folder, see a bunch of VOBs, all bigger than 0 bytes, drag those off the DVD. Do not use MPEG Streamclip on the DVD itself unless you also want to grow a beard. Ignore other file extensions, BUPs and IFO's and VTS files. Not what you want.
Double click on the first one and let MPEG Streamclip go to bat for you. Say yes when it asks if you want to open them all.
Honestly, if this is a little daunting and you know which specific chapters or titles and chapters from the DVD you want, use Mac the Ripper.
You can pick say, Title 3 and Chapters 1-5, and it rips those, and makes one nice VOB for you that you have it all in one package. Then open that in Streamclip (or iSquint) and export.

  • Setting a Layer Break for GEAR Pro Mastering Edition with EncoreDVD & IFOEdit

Setting Layer Breaks Manually for Encore/GEAR Projects
Although we can write straight to a DVD+R DL disc directly out of EncoreDVD 2.0 and we can also create our Master DLT tapes directly out of EncoreDVD 2.0 also, there are times when these options simply are not sufficient.
For example - we wish to Verify the successful writing of a DLT Tape, or we wish to create a QC disc for our clients in DVD-R DL format.
Either way, the "option" of using a +R DL disc is often unacceptable.
Another very good reason for +R DL discs to be NFG is that they are NOT DVD-Video format, and as such tend to expect the layers 0 and 1 to be of equal size.
Yet another reason could simply be we are using EncoreDVD 1.01, which does not support direct writing of any DL discs at all.
The solution is to use GEAR Pro Mastering Edition to create your DLT or DVD-R DL disc directly from your Encore project instead.
And here's how you do it.
You are going to need copies of both GEAR Pro Mastering Edition, EncoreDVD (any version) and finally a copy of the freeware application IFOEdit http://www.ifoedit.com/. Additionally, we will also need the GEAR Layer Break Calcuulator, provided for free on their excellent support site at http://www.gearsoftware.com/support/documentation/layerbreakcalculator.xls
Now we are ready - lets look at how it is all done. Don't be put off by what looks like a lot of math here either - this gets easier every time you do it and all it takes is a little common sense and practise.
The best way to proceed is to use EncoreDVD to build your project to a folder. This will not make any Layer Break settings at all, and will allow us to create a new DL Project in GEAR and also allows GR+EAR to build the UDF/ISO structure for us.
So once we have written our tested and checked project to a folder, the next step is to close out of EncoreDVD and launch GPME. By the way - if you're not certain that you need the expense of GPME for a one-off project you can simply download their 30 day trial version and use this as it is 100% fully functional in every way - there are no limitations at all.
When GEAR loads, select to create a new DVD-Video project and be certain you tick the DVD9 box in this screen too. Another window will appear now asking you to locate the folder where the Video_TS files are stored. Point this at the Video_TS folder and GEAR will create a basic DVD9 project for you.
Next we need to load up the Excel Spreadsheet with the Layer Break Calculator we downloaded earlier. I always use a different machine for this as I don't have Office installed and any open source application that can read an XLS file will do the job. If you don't have one, I recommend either OpenOffice or Star Office to do this. There are a lot of helpful calculators in XLS mode, and you won't regret it. Just try to keep all this stuff well clear of your authoring system though. But I am rambling, and I'm sorry. Back to buiness.
Once we have loaded up our Layer Break Calculator, we need to enter in some numbers.
Back over in GPME, where we have our shiny new DVD9 project sat there waiting for instructions, there is a file structure on the lower left hand side of the project screen. Att the top of the list we should see something very much like "VOLUME (projectname) (DVD-Video ISO/UDF)"
Right-click on this, and select "Properties". A screen will appear with all sorts of numbers in it, and we ignore the lot of them except for the "Total Volume Size in Sectors" - which we need to write down, nip across the room to our spreadsheet, and type the number in right at the top where it says "Total Volume (project) Size"
Another set of (probably) meaningless numbers appears - and the 2 we are interested in here are the ones where it says "RULES" and specifically "Layer Break Point must be Greater than .....
    And Less than.....
Write these 2 numbers down, and hop smartly back across to where we have our GEAR project open on our authoring machine. Or simply minimize the spreadsheet if we are doing all this on the same system.
We now need to click on the folder marked "Video_TS" in the bottom left of the GEAR screen, and on the lower right we need to click once on the bar in the middle above all the VOB files marked "start sector" to arrange all the files in the sequence they will be on the disc. This makes finding our VTS file so much easier.
Somewhere in that list there will be a file that has that range of numbers in it. If we are really lucky, there will be more than one, which means that one of these will soon become our Layer Break.
When we have identified the correct file, take a note of it's name - it will be VTS_01_4.VOB or something with a similar structure name wise.
Next, we need to write down and enter into the Layer Break Calculator the start sector number of the VTS_xx_1.VOB file that holds our values.
I will try to explain why. If our Sector range is to be found in the example we gave earlier, say VTS_01_4.VOB, we need to note the start sector of the file VTS_01_1.VOB. This is because all these VTS_xx_x.VOB files are all extensions of the same file. They are just in handy blocks so that the Computer can keep track of them without breaking any rules about file sizes. Anyway, we write down the Start Sector of the file VTS_xx_1.VOB where xx is the file where the Layer Break range is to be found.
Just to try & make the concept clear, if the range were found in the file VTS_05_5.VOB, our start sector we need to write down is VTS_05_1.VOB
Enter this into the Calculator/Spreadsheet in the place where it says "Chosen Video Object VTS_xx_1.VOB Start Sector.
Now this will tell us exactly where we need to look next, and tell us we now need to hunt for a cell start sector between a range of sectors.
It might be something like "1,148,678 and 2,051,052" sectors.
This is where IFOEdit comes in.
Launch IFOEdit - and you may as well go back to GEAR, and close the project - but not the application. Go to the "File" menu, and from the drop dow select "Delete GEAR Project" and delete the one we just created, as we will need to change it anyway. Why you will find out later on.
From IFOEdit, you will see 2 halves of a screen. Down the bottom left there is an "Open" button. Click on this and locate the Video_TS folder, and specifically the file VTS_xx_1.IFO, where xx is the file we know from earlier the Layer Break will be placed.
Immediately your head will start to ache, your eyes will glaze over & your brain will wave a little white flag, as some serious mathematics suddenly appears (Well, that's what happened to me the first time. I was too fascinated to be confused - sheer bewilderment is perhaps the best expression. And I still don't know what most of it is for.
The one we are interested in can be found in the upper half, and is called "VTS_PGCITI".
Click on this, and a lot of little others will appear immediately below it.
You will see VTS_PGC_1 and so on until you run out of blocks.
The odds are high our layer break will be in the longest file - but this does not always hold true, so we start at the top & work our way rapidly down. What we are looking for is twofold.
1 - A Cell Start Sector within our range defined earlier.
2 - A cell Start Sector flagged as "NON Seamless playback.
If we can fill both these criteria, we have our layer break.
Write this number down, and enter it into our spreadsheet - and close down IFOEdit as we are done with it for today.
Back in the Spreadsheet we are almost done. Once we enter this number in, it will helpfully calculate exactly where in our Virtual image from earlier that sector lies, and will check to see if it is divisible by 16. Don't worry for now why, just know that it has to do this.
The chances are high it will not be, so the spreadsheet will tell you how many sectors the whole image has to be shifted forwards by, and what the new Cell Start Sector is in this revised image. This is automatic, and you get 2 figures.
1 - Offset. This number will be between 0 and 15.
    2 - Layer Break Sector.
Time to go back to GEAR, and in our "Options" drop-down menu we will have another one called "Preferences". In this, we need to tell GEAR to ask us for the start sector to be entered for each file.
Now we create our project again - but this time GEAR will ask us for the start sector of VIDEO_TS_IFO, and the figure 640 will be highlighted.
Add our offset figure we were given earlier to this so if our offset was 11, enter in 651.
GEAR will do all the rest automatically for you.
One more job to do now.
Go Back to "Options/Preferences", and under DVD we need to tell GEAR we are changing the Layer Break. Click on the "Change" button, and use the up/down arrows to arrive at our newly discovered Layer Break Value.
Save the project - we're done. And write down that offset & Layer Break whatever you do.
You can now write to DVD-R DL, DLT tapes (and if you right-click on your DLT drive in the lower "Devices" screen, and choose "Properties", you can tell GEAR to verify the tape after writing too. It will write both layers first, then verify each one.
There is, however, a minor "GOTCHA" in GPME when writing DLT tapes.
It is allowed to set the IDENT.TXT file to be included on the DLT tape by means of a tick box. However, as this file is not actually required for replication in DVD-Video, but only in DVD-ROM - GEAR will not include the file
i even if the box is ticked
    but it
    i does
add a pointer to the file in the DDPID file instead. The upshot of this is that a DLT tape where IDENT.TXT has been selected to be included will be
i rejected by the factory as unusable.
This is because when they try to verify the DDP image on the tape it will fail as IDENT.TXT is NOT on the tape.
You must ensure this box is NEVER TICKED - I fell for this one recently, and had to rework 7 DLT tapes.
There is yet another way to get a DL project to the factory if you do not have a DLT machine, and do not have access to DL discs in the correct format.
Write the DDP images to 2 single layer discs instead!
This requires the use of GEAR Pro Mastering Edition again, and is incredibly easy to do.
What you need to do here is follow the original guides in the FAQ sections for setting the Layer Break manually, but instead of writing the project to DLT tapes or to DVD-R DL/DVD+R DL media, what we do next is write the project to a DDP file on the HDD instead.
This will result in 2 folders appearing - Layer 0 and Layer 1.
Each of these has the necessary information for the replication plant to manufacture the discs - all we need to do is get them onto 2 discs instead of 2 DLT tapes.
    This is simplicity itself.
    Launch your burning application.
    Create a new DVD-ROM project.
    Name it (Project)_Layer_1
Broswe to the 2 folders with the DDP files in them, and add the contents in this exact order
    DDPID
    CONTROL.DAT
    IMAGE.DAT
    (Checksum.txt - optional)
    (Log file - optional)
    Burn the disc.
    Repeat for Layer 1.
That is all there is to it.
What will happen at the factory is the Eclipse verification system will look for the DDPID file at the root level of the disc. If it cannot find it, it will assume it is dealing with a standard DVD-ROM disc instead, but if it is there it will know what is going on, load the files, and ask for Layer 1 after it has finished in the normal manner.
I hope this helps out - if not, please post in the main forums, and I'll try to help out.

    Hi Ryan,
Yes, you'll only get the LB sector number when you format with one of the "tape images" (go with DDP 2.0). And unfortunately, Gear doesn't allow transfer of DDP or CMF Images to DLT.
Gear is working on a version that will incorporate DVD-9 making within the program.
Meanwhile, If you go with the instructions on their site to create a DVD-9, be sure to add: "correct VTS sectors" in the VIDEO_TS folder with IFOEdit, and set the region info in the VMGM_MAT to "0"; and be sure to flag all instances of a cell properly for the layer break, in the case they reside in any Stories that span the Layers.
But if I may; It's highly recommended that you hire out tests on the resulting DDP image to make sure the layer break did indeed fall where you expected, and that there are no other issues (Same goes with any DDP image destined for replication, created by any other program).
Or better yet, consider hiring someone to premaster for you (I wonder who? , who also includes navigation proofing, spec compliance testing (MEI and sometimes with a player bank) and verifying the finished Image (EclipseSuite); all for one low fixed price, i.e. no charge in the event a resubmission to me is required (pre consultation, also included, nips lots of common mistakes in the buds). This insures that only a bullet-proof Image is finally sent in to the replicator.
There I go with commercials again! But for sure, Gear's current DVD-9 method is not for the faint of head; and premastering in general, is not the innocuous activity it appears to be. Real trouble eventually awaits (unless measures are taken), due to the nature of the critter.
    Take care,
    Trai

  • Unable to place disk image in Camera Archives

The Final Cut Pro X manuals show that one can import a disk image of a movie into Final Cut Pro X by opening the camera archives. I have made a disk image file (.img) from an iMovie 6 project file. (The video appears as a VTS file in the Video TS folder.) How do I get it to appear in my camera archives file so that I can import it into Final Cut Pro X?

That's a disk image for an authored DVD. You can't. It's in an MPEG-2 that's not supported for production only for delivery. You would need to use something like MPEG Streamclip to rip it.

  • Idvd #8 and widescreen still doesnt work!?

ok, i shot some HDV 1080i, downconverted it as sd widescreen, edited in imovie as widescreen, exported using quicktime as 16X9 853X480 dv video, imported that into idvd widescreen, and the preview shows 4X3. HOW HARD IS IT FOR THIS TO WORK CORRECTLY? Does apple actually expect us to all just buy apple tv's instead?
    come on now...
    thanks for any help.

I just updated to iDVD 08
I have anamorphic 16x9 QuickTime .MOV files I created from my Final Cut Pro project file. These do not appear as widescreen in a WS iDVD project. That started all of this.
I've created a new copy of the video using Anamorphicizer -- no luck
When I run idvd-ws-fix from terminal,
I created an image file from iDVD and mounted the image file as TEST_DVD. In terminal I ran the script:
    /Applications/idvd-ws-fix-1.1/idvd-ws-fix --output=my-new-disc.img "/Volumes/TEST_DVD"
Copying VTS files to temporary directory.
/Applications/idvd-ws-fix-1.1/mkisofs: Warning: -follow-links does not always work correctly; be careful.
    2.95% done, estimate finish Sat Jan 19 11:11:00 2008
    5.90% done, estimate finish Sat Jan 19 11:10:43 2008
The script ran fine and created my-newl-disc.img in the applications folder where I had stored the script folder.
HOWEVER, when I mounted the new image and played it in the MAC DVD player, my anamorphic video was still crushed to 4x3. Very frustrating.
I then opened a .IFO file form the new image TS_VIDEOS directory in HexEdit. When I look at 00000200 all I see is a row of zeros.
Next, I mounted the image again and copied both TS directories into a test directory. I changed permissions in both AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS directories to read & write, apply to everything (requires your user password to confirm).
I opened the VVIDEO_TS directory in myDVDEdit. I edited: VMG Menu; VTS Menu 1; and VTS 1. In each case, using the VMG or VTS menu tab, I changed Aspect from Auto pan Pan&Scan Letterbox to 16x9 for both VMG Menu and VTS Menu; and from 4x3 to 16x9 for VTS 1. myDVDEdit stated that the video aspect ratio is not the sasme as the stream one. Do you want to correct the VOB files? I hit CORRECT.
When I opened the VIDEO_TS folder in DVD player, my anamorphic video finally played wide screen.
I ran this test again from a new disk image created from iDVD. I mounted the image, copied the TS directories in to a second test folder, changed permissions on both TS directories, then opened the new test directory in myDVDEdit. I made all the changes noted above and hit SAVE.
I opened the new test VIDEO_TS directory in DVD player and my anamorpohic video played wide screen.
I believe I had tried this before with no luck because I failed to change VTS 1 to 16x9.
Next I burned a DVD from the image file using Disk Utility.
When I played it with DVD player -- back to square one! The anamorpohic video played squished as 4x3. Did the same when I played it on my setup DVD player attached to a 4x3 crt TV.
I opened the VTS01O.IF, in HexEdit, scrolled down to 00000200 and found the first entry was 4F. I changed this to 4E and saved the file. Did the same for BTS010.BUP. I left the VIDEO_TS.IFO file set to 00
I then burned a new DVD. No luck.
Please add your findings to this thread.

  • Video, Website and Software incompatibility

Hi Folks! Three questions about incompatibility on my iMac:
    1) The following website will not open or allow me to run their website appllication software,
    https://www4.webcrf.net/nma53032/pfts.dll?PVN=21678
The site is a pharmaceutical research platform for Sherring Plough. It runs on my Windows computer at work or the old one at home. I would like to run it on my iMac. Any help?
    2) Running a cd produced with the exam results of my recent MRI doesn't run on my iMac, but runs fine on Windows computer. The App Store provided me with the free Opera software, which I duly downloaded and upgraded, fortunately for free. But nothing happens. Any help?
    3) I have two dvds with film files that I can run by using the disk but if I try to copy the content onto my iMac (or on my old Windows machine too) I get files that will not just play a movie or series of files, nothing. Both of these dvds download onto my computer with the same file types: VTS files, a whole folder full of them. They are categorized as Unix Executable Files. Some are grouped in an audio folder, others in a video folder. But they don't behave like a file that I can open and run. Any help?
    Thanks!  J

    Hi, and thanks for responding.
    1) The end result was that the website in questions was created exclusively for use by a windows program and, even when running 'emulate windows' webbrowsers, it just will not work. And the company webmaster also said it was not made to run on a Mac. The only option left would be to pay for software to set up a virtual machine that runs windows on my Mac.
    2) To run an MRI cd on a Mac I had to use Osirix, which was free and works fine.
    3) Handbrake seems tobe the answer. Thanks for suggestion this. I had some trouble because I assumed I could find it at the Apple App store. Not there. (A busy lilfe tends to help confuse things.) But my brother in law put in on my compter and now I have just to do it.
Thanks, I'll note Correct Answer for that one on 3.
    Ciao  J

  • DVDSP 4.1.2 - Not building correctly...

I have two issues now with DVDSP (one an old issue) the other new. Both are proving to be quite irritating now.
    1. This is a new issue that has cropped up. I currently have a project that, when you hit the "play" button, first plays a brief intro, jumps to a logo animation, then goes on to the main video. It simulates perfectly. When I "Build" the project, hitting the play button results in a jump directly to the main video skipping the intro pieces. I've deleted the entire folder where I output the VTS files and tried to re-build to project to no avail. So, what's going on with this? Any ideas why the intro pieces won't "Build" when it works in the simulator fine?
    2. Old, ongoing issue - Refreshing assets. I know this has been written about before but I still have issues getting assets to properly refresh - even after deleting the PAR folder. Wrong media still plays which usually results in my re-creating substantial portions of my project - deleting a menu item, the tracks then the asset; then rebuilding that portion of the project from the beginning (importing the asset, re-create the menu and add the track (this problem usually happens with the video/audio exports from FCP).
    Thanks for the help

For the first issue, make sure that your end jumps are correctly set each time - use the connections tab to be sure... but remember that it might be connected to your second issue.
With the second issue, deleting the PAR files usually works, and for the most part simply changing the asset is alright, too. However, to be sure it works, when you import a replacement asset add a digit to the end and increment it each time so that there is a unique name every time. Then, when you get to build, do not 'reuse' an existing Video_TS file (which is the connection to the first issue).

  • Layer Change Point - help?

I've read through numerous posts here about the same subject, but none answered my question.
I'm authoring a dual-layer project, total size is 8.4 GB. It consists of a feature, and the disc is literally packed with bonus extras (making of etc). I've tried making every chapter in the main feature the layer break, and even chapters in some of the extras, but when formatting itcontinually says that layer one's size has been exceeded. I 've also tried shifting the VTS files around, as suggested in the manual, but still no luck.
    Can anybody help?

When your videots is loaded you will see a series of blue arrows next to all of the cells that you can use as layer breaks. Expand a VTS with a blue arrow, expand the PGC, expand the cell, until you see navpacks will blue arrows. Click on one of theses navpacks. in the info about this navpack you can see the total time elapsed from the nearest marker. You can also expand the preview window so that you can view exactly what part of the video this is.
Many thanks for your help. I have opened the video_ts file with DVDAfterEdit Demo. The blue arrow points to:
    VTS4 (1 PGC) -> PGC 1 TT 4 (12 programs) ->PG 8 PTT 9 (1 cell) -> Cell 8 (1292 nav packs) -> and then V1C8 Nav Packs 594-857 are highligted with blue arrows.
How do I find what point this relates to in my DVD project? VTS 4 in my project is the main feature, although I'm unsure where this app is telling me the layer break should be. Does a layer break need to be a cpapter, or can I make the layer change any other way?
If you do not have any options you'll need to add markers to the project in Tracks where you think the LB can go. Uncheck the Type: Chapter option. This means it'll be a cell marker and will not impact the chapters in your project. Build again and open to see if the cells are available.
I have no options forthe layer change to occur on chapters. Where do I find Type: Chapter option? I don't see this anywhere.

  • 16:9 DVD created in iDVD plays cropped on Panasonic DVD player

I created a DVD from a 16:9 QuickTime movie using iDVD 7. Everything works fine when I play the video on a computer (Mac or PC), but when I play it on my DVD player (a recent Panasonic that plays all commercial 4:3 and 16:9 DVDs perfectly) it plays the video cropped to 4:3. In other words it completely loses the left and right edges.
I have a 16:9 LCD TV so I verified that the settings on the TV were fine and they were. I am certain that the image that the TV receives is already a 4:3 image, it isn't cropped by the TV.
I tried to change the settings on the DVD player manually to see if it was a problem with the player (although I doubted that to start with as I had no problems with commercial DVDs ever). It didn't matter if the DVD player was manually set to 4:3, 16:9 or Auto, all I could get was differently resized versions of the 4:3 cropped video. It appears that for the DVD player, the extra information outside the 4:3 box doesn't exist, it will only play the 4:3 part of the 16:9 video.
Does anybody know why this happens and how to fix it?
Thanks, this is driving me nuts as I've already rendered and rebuilt and re-rendered this project twice and I need to get this DVD to my friend before he moves.
    Andrew.

I think I figured it out.
    Download myDVDedit from http://www.mydvdedit.com/index.php?pg=downloads
From iDVD save the VIDEO_TS folder (or copy it from your disc/disk image) to your computer.
Open the VIDEO_TS folder in myDVDedit
Use myDVDedit and change all of the VTS files to use an 16:9 auto Letterbox aspect ratio in the IFO section
    Save VIDEO_TS from myDVDedit
Load up Toast and burn a new DVD from your VIDEO_TS folder.
I'll test this at home and let you know if it worked on my DVD player.
    Cheers, Andrew.
