WAAS hardware is OE612, but Rescue Disk detects model as OE512

I've had this issue with 2 RMA'd OE612s already. They originally shipped with 4.0.19, which worked fine, but failed on upgrade to 4.2.1.

I suspect that the Installer program on the Rescue CD can't detect the Hardware properly, and thus can't find the proper drivers for the platform.
Is there any manual method of forcing the Rescue CD Installer to use a particular hardware model?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi Zach,
>What led you to change the Adaptec configuration?
I was directed to do so by TAC, although I wasn't sure why, since our other WAE-612-k9s didn't have this option enabled.
>What is the state of the device prior to upgrading?  Does the WAAS software boot?
After disabling the hardware raid, the WAE could run any 4.0.x version, but could not upgrade to 4.1/4.2. I tried both the "rescue CDs" for 4.1/4.2, and the "copy ftp install" methods. "Rescue CDs" would work right up to the option for "wipe disks and install .bin" image, but would report "no disks" as shown above. The "copy ftp install" from version 4.0.27 would install the 4.2.1.38 image, but upon reboot, it would fail during the boot sequence

Frustrated, I looked at the boot logs and might have found an issue. On the "faulty" WAE-612, the boot script detects two SCSI adapters; only one shows up in BIOS POST.
The first adapter (Adaptec AIC79XX) has no drives, but is assigned the device name "scsi0"
Under the second adapter(Adaptec AIC94XX), the Hard disks are detected, and it's assigned a device name of "scsi1"

To contrast, our functioning WAE-612s do not have this second detected Adaptec host adapter, and are properly assigned a "scsi0" for their device name.

On our faulty WAE-612,  in the section that tries to mount the detected drives, it appears that the script is looking for the physical drives under the "scsi0" device name, using the AIC94XX driver.. .

I'm guessing this fails because there are no physical drives on "scsi0", they are assigned on "scsi1". If the disk mapping script  would've tried , I think the drives would've been mounted properly.
I was hoping there was a modified script out there somewhere, but after our 3rd RMA'd WAE exhibited the same characteristics (these were all in Chennai India), I directed the onsite tech to remove the Adaptec 29320ALP UltrasSCSI adapter.
With the adapter removed, the 4.2.1.38 code installed and booted properly.
When I forwarded my results to TAC, our Rep mentioned that the WAE-612-k9 ships with both ACNS and WAE capabilities. He said that ACNS uses that additonal SCSI card.
I'm fairly sure our configuration is not unique; our environment consists of  32 WAEs, and this is the first time that I've encountered this issue.
I'm just happy it's resolved now.
Thanks for your insight, Zach

  • Hard Disk failed but no problems detected in hardware test

My macbook crashed yesterday when I was running a photo sideshow. When I turned it on a flashing question mark appeared. I have followed instructions in the mac manual and looked at some discussions here. If I hold down the options key on startup there is no hard drive there and there is also no have drive if I run the disk utility but when I ran the hardware test it said no problems detected and I have repeated the test several times. This might mean there is an issue with the software but how can i reinstall it if I can't see the hard drive? I'm not sure what to do or what the problem is so please help
    Thank you

Did you ever receive any information on how to solve this? Did you have to send your computer back to the mfgrer?

  • Odd BIOS disk detection

ok, so I gathered up most of the spare hardware I have and crammed it into one server.... it's not a powerhouse, but it's got 1.5GB of ram and 60GB+80GB hard drives...
problem is, every time I reboot, I get "master hard disk failure" - I have to go into the bios, do the little disk detection, and then save and exit... happens every time I reboot...
anyone have a clue what could cause this? I don't really have alot of time to pull random pieces in and out...
I'll try it with just one single disk later on... but any speculations from the peanut gallery would be appretiated

it's a tyan something or other... max support is for P3 @ 866MHz, so it's fairly old, but not *that* old...

  • Verify SCXI chassis: Configuration specifies a SCXI -1600 module but nothing was detected

    Hello NI Engineer,
I am using SCXI 1001 chassis with SCXI 1600 control module, SCXI 1520 signal conditioning module and SCXI 1314 connector block to acquire data from strain gage. Once I right clicked SCXI 1001 under device and Interfaces in MAX>> test>>I found a pop up window as “Verify SCXI chassis: Configuration specifies a SCXI -1600 module but nothing was detected”.
This is what I did.  I connected wires from strain gage to SCXI 1314 connector block which is then connected to SCXI 1520, placed in chassis. I connected SCXI 1600 controller module to computer using a USB 2.0 cable. As soon as I switched on chassis, I found a pop up at task bar as “SCXI 1600 is detected”. I opened MAX and right clicked NI SCXI -1001 under devices and interfaces>> Properties>>selected the accessory under module tab and got “Configuration complete” message at top of pop  up window, But once I right clicked NI SCXI 1001 >> test >> I found an error as mentioned above. Also once I right clicked NI SCXI 1520, under NI SCXI 1001>> Configure TEDS>> I was not able to click scan for HW TEDS option (i.e. It’s not shown up). How to overcome these two errors? Please help me. I also attached screen shots with this. I am using windows XP.
    Thanks

    Hi Dhaya,
You seems in the correct direction to configure the SCXI hardware. There is nothing to test on the SCXI-1001 chassis instead you can test on the individual channels inside the SCXI. SCXI 1600 will auto detect the modules inside the SCXI Chassis and display it in MAX. The next step that you may need to do is to configure the Accessories (Connector Block) that is attached to the SCXI-1520 mentioned.
Once you configure the connector block, you should be able to test SCXI-1520 channel.
In regards to TEDS, Are you using SCXI-1314T connector block (http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/13735) which is for TEDS sensors?
    I hope that this helps

  • Hardware changes might not have been detected

    Hello,
I am getting the error message "hardware changes might not have been detected" for five days now. Using HP Pavillion g6Notebook PC/Product No. : D8Q59EA#ABF running OS Windows 8 (not wanting to upgrade to 8.1)
After Windows automatic security and KB updates, and HP update, five days ago I started having error messages when trying to watch videos online. Video would start and five seconds in 'black-out' with error message 'unable to play video' imbeded in video itself. I then noticed sound abscence on my laptop and noted that although all sound controls are at proper settings, there is no sound. Device manager is showing NO exclaimation marks or warnings. HP Action center is saying 'no issues' and Control Panel automated fix tools are all coming back as 'unable to fix problem', OR, when running troubleshooter in CP for hardware and devices getting the "hardware changes might not have been detected message". I have tried using a restoration point to before issues began, which temporarily fixes the sound issue but it then goes off again. Same with 'HP recovery' option for 'drivers', temporary fix that does not remain. Tried 'system restore' from a restoration point just done where sound WAS working but even that, once done, quickly lost the sound. Tried Microsoft onliine auto fix tools and they too are unable to fix the problem. Windows updates all up to date, no 'optional updates' available other than Bing Desktop and Microsoft Silverlight, both of which I do not want or need. Drivers all up to date it appears, including with HP Updates. Intuitively it feels as if the drivers are up to date, recognized and functioning, but then 'something' is 'disconnecting' their recognition/functioning, IF it is in fact even a driver issue. I have been reading for several days and narrowed it down to that. Seen a few articles re the EXACT same problem referenced on an OS Windows 7, but not ONE where a solution that fixes the problem exist! Thank you in advance for your help and please advise if further details are required.  I have added no new hardware recently, or ever, in fact to my laptop, only Kaspersky Pure MANY months ago and it is working perfectly without conflicts.  Thanks again.

    Hi RedmoonWolf,
Bit of a puzzler of an issue for sure. And you're right, there's very little out there in terms of similar error messages, and how to fix them.
I would consider going to the Windows Update window, and noting which ones went through lately. Then, another place to start first might be to go back to that same restore point again, and this time halting the automatic updates.
Once that is stable again, try updating any browsers you use, and also Adobe flash, as a lot of videos work off of that.
Secondly, before doing any more updates, go ahead and run the system file checker - might be something that it'll catch and fix: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833
Finally, if all is going alright, create another restore point, and then try the updates again, hopefully this time around they'll work

  • Paragon Hard Disk Manager 2011 Suite rescue disk freezes iMac

    Hi,
After seeing several recommendations here and on the net for Paragon's Hard Disk Manager 2011 Suite, and having good luck with their HFS+ and NTFS products, I decided to purchase it today. Immediately after installing it in my Win7 x64 boot camp setup, I used their tools to create a disaster recovery disk on a CD.  The burn went fine (and the volume name is PARAGON), I rebooted my iMac to test it out. However, after clicking on the disk in the bootup screen, my iMac freezes, causing me to power it down to eject the disk.
Along with the download came an .exe to create a WinPE disaster recovery disk. I booted back into Windows and ran the exe, successfully creating the WinPE rescue disk. However, when I tried to boot with this disk, it also froze on the volume selection screen. Again I booted into Windows and fired up HDM, thinking there was some kind of option to make a rescue disk that's compatible with my iMac, but I couldn't find anything
I'm thinking it might be due to my iMac's BIOS (or lack of one) that's causing me problems, but I'm not sure. I would think that the Linux/DOS option in the normal rescue disk creation would work, but it doesn't work for me.
Does anyone have a clue on what's going on? Paragon advertises support for HFS+ volumes (and I saw my many HFS+ partitions displayed in the program's main screen) and boot camp, so there is something really funny going on.
    Thanks.

Well, I found out that the problem is not with the Paragon rescue disk, but with the inordinate amount of time my iMac takes to recognize non-OS X bootable media. I'll explain...
After trying several different manufacturer's media and still getting the same frozen system, I was about to give up. As a last resort I was going to try putting the media on a USB stick, but my stick was in the car.  I ran outside to get it from the glove compartment and headed back to the family room. I looked at my iMac's screen and there was the Paragon Hard Disk Manager main screen!! I couldn't believe it; the media and the burn was good after all.
Taking my iPhone and getting my stopwatch app, I powered off my iMac (with the rescue disk still in it), turned it on, and as soon as I heard the gong, I pressed the 'c' key and hit 'start' on the stopwatch. I was astonished to find that it takes 1 minute 48 seconds for the iMac to begin the boot process. No wonder I thought the disks were causing my iMac to hang. I was sitting on the white screen or the volume chooser bar  for almost 2 minutes while my iMac did.....nothing. No spinning disk, no progression bar (like sometimes appears when you boot OS X and there's a system problem), no nothing.
After reading the net, I found out that my (apparently) frozen boot is not my problem alone. It seems to occur with different machines and different setups. It must have something to do with the BIOS (EFI) emulation, because once boot starts it runs fast.
If anyone has a clue about the frozen white screen, please post here. I'm glad it's not my machine or my burning techniques, but it's a bear waiting 2 minutes each time Win7 needs to reboot (which seems to happen at least twice a day).

  • How to boot from rescue disk

    Hi,
I am running Macbook Pro, snow leopard 10.6.8
My resuce disk is based on 10.6.4
I tried to boot from rescue disk to repair the main disk.
I failed to boot from the rescue disk as my rescue disk (from CD) is not being recognized. I tried multiple options such as holding down  "C", "c", "option" key etc while the system is restarting. Only the main disk was being shown as the bootable option (while holding down the option key when restarting) but not the rescue disk.
I verified that my rescue disk is good. Infact, I could boot a Lion MacBookPro using my resue disk.
    Any inputs are appreciated.
    Thanks

It was 10.6.4 (Snow Leopard). It was the same as the rescue disk version.

  • No boot disk detected or boot disk failed

I'm asking this for my father. He does not have the internet right now.  Nothing to do with this issue though.
He has a Pavillion 23, model # 23-1270.  A week ago he went to turn on his computer and got an error message saying, " No boot disk detected or boot disk failed.  My sister called HP and one of the techs said it was the hard drive and it needed to be replaced.  So it was replaced.  Went to put Windows 8 back on from the disk, and it still pops up with "No boot disk detected or boot disk failed".  My sister ran diagnostics on it and it comes back saying that the hard drive passed.   But nothing about the dvd/cd player.  Would it not pick that up?  It is part of the computer.  My question is:  Now that the hard drive has passed, and its not reading the Windows 8 disk, is it a dvd/cd problem, or is it some thing totally different?  My sister and my dad have money issues right now and can't afford to use an HP tech.  So I'm hoping that someone knows what could be wrong and what I may be able to try.
    Thank you so very much,
    Andrea K.

     Hello liv2lrn,
This is bad news especially around Christmas time. Your fathers computer is not worth fixing. Motherboard is corrupted, because these steps given faild. It is cheeper to buy another computer then it is replacing a motherboard.  That's even if HP has one in stock. What I would do is shop on E-Bay you can find real good deals there for another good used one.  I puchased a high value Sony VGC-LLT25E 24" screen computer for $300.00 Amazon at the time had two listed for $1999.00 and the other one at $1800.00 both were sold with in two weeks.  I got lucky . That computer has out lasted three HP computers witch are newer. It is in mint condition runs a whole lot better then my HP's computers do.  Shop wisely.  You can save lots of money like I did.
Good Luck I am sure you can find a real good deal like I did.

  • [Athlon64] 'No disks detected' when installing WinXP64bit on striped SATA RAID

I've been using my RS480M2 board with a dual boot config (WinXP Pro 32bit and WinXP Pro 64bit) using a Maxtor Diamond Plus 80G SATA hard drive configured as an IDE/ATA. I set the controller as "IDE Controller" in the bios. Everything has been working just fine and I must say that I really do notice a big performance improvement on the WinXP64bit compared to the WinXP32bit.
I then purchased another Maxtor 80G SATA with the intention of setting up a SATA RAID 0 (striping) config to see if I will get more performance gain. So I changed the controller to "SATA Raid Controller" in the bios. Then I used the Sil3112A GUI (by pressing F4) to configure my 2 SATA hard drives as RAID 0. I tried installing WinXP Pro 64bit but the SATA RAID drivers I've tried just do not work. The Windows setup would indicate that there are no disks detected. I already tried the 32bit SATA RAID driver, the one at Silicon Image site, a few ones at PlanetAMD64, etc. No luck!!!
So I just installed WinXP Pro 32bit using the provided Sil3112 SATA RAID driver floppy diskette that came with my board. And it installed without any problems. All is well. So the problem is: WHERE THE HELL CAN I GET A SATA RAID DRIVER FOR WINXP64BIT???
To anyone who has the solution to my problem, kindly email the driver (or link) at [email protected]
    Thanks.

Sorry for the late reply. I finally got to install Windows XP Pro 64bit onto my RS480M2-IL configured as SATA RAID 0 (striping) with 2 80G DiamondPlus SATA hard drives. The sata drive that worked is the one on this link:

Please Help

Your problem is not Boot Camp, in fact, is your optical drive. Win XP requires indeed sp2, but also the internal drive, does not work from external optical drive.
For other possible tricks, please use the appropriate Boot Camp forum, not here. Mac OS X may be installed from both external and internal optical drive and/or internal/external partition of a disk, any disk. Windows is not so generous.

  • Can't create rescue disk nor boot from installation disk

I can't make a rescue disk.  Get an error message.  As instructed I booted from the Windows 7 install disc and it comes up with no mouse or keyboard support.  What is displayed is the choice of languages. Can't get a command prompt. Am I missing
    something?
System is a MSI 297-3 board running Windows 7 64 bit. 1 hardrive and 1 dvd.

  • Disk Utility says everything's fine, but Install disk doesn't find my internal drive as a possible destination. When I startup with Command   S, I get a looping "cannot mount errno = 19" message.

Disk Utility says everything's fine, but Install disk doesn't find my internal drive as a possible destination. When I startup with Command + S, I get a looping "cannot mount errno = 19" message.
Problem started when I used Tech Tool Pro 6 to "de-fragment volume". Had to cancel that process before it finished because I ran out of time. Thereafter, when I startup my machine normally, I get the gray Apple logo at first, but it changes to a prohibited symbol (circle with a slash thru it) and hangs.
When I startup holding the Option key, I can see my internal drive, but I get the same results as above.
When I startup using the MacBook OSX Install DVD, it does not find my internal drive as possible destination.
When I startup using the MacBook OSX Install DVD and then run Disk Utility, it finds my drive, allows me to "repair" and says everything is fine.
When I startup with Command + S, I get a looping error message "errno = 19" and cannot stop it to do anything else.
When I startup from Disk Warrior v4.4, it does not find my internal drive to do any repairs.
When I startup from Tech Tool Pro 6 and run the "computer check" diagnostics, everything passes but the Volume Structure, which fails at "Volume Extents (B-tree)." When I use TTP's "Tools" option to run "volume repair" it will show my internal drive and allow me to click the GO button, but nothing happens and nothing changes.
I have a Time Machine backup on an external USB drive, but for as long as the internal drive doesn't mount, I can't use the backup to restore.

It's a false report and should be ignored.
I would not rely on TT as I've already said earlier even before Grant posted similar advice.
I really think the Rigid Disk Block may be corrupted. This holds the partition map and could prevent a volume from being unmounted. Unfortunately, there is no way to fix that without repartitioning the drive which will remove everything. So, before going down this road I hope you have backups or can make a backup.
    Drive Partition and Format
    1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
    4. Quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.
    5. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

Disconnect other USB devices from your computer and connect iPad to a different USB 2.0 port on your computer (not on your keyboard).
Turn iPad off and turn it on again. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button on top of iPad for a few seconds, until a red slider appears. Then slide the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
Restart your computer. Then reconnect iPad to your computer.
