WAE 574 disk prob

Logged into and got below, Can I do a hot reseat of the drive or do I have to shut down (docs say too) before reseating? Any other thoughts would be appreciated. No directory /local/local1! Logging in with home = "/". System Initialization Finished. Disk based software not installed. Some applications may not run correctly! #sh disks details Storage array not supported. Physical disk information:   disk00: Not present or not responding   disk01: Not present or not responding Mounted file systems: MOUNT POINT      TYPE      DEVICE                SIZE    INUSE      FREE USE% No RAID devices present. #sh disks tech Storage array not supported. === disk00 === disk00: Not present or not responding === disk01 === disk01: Not present or not responding Thanks in advance! Rich

Hi Rich,
Disks on this system should be hot swappable so I think you can go ahead and try a reseat without any intervention.
This is mentionned under the following link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/waas/v431/configuration/guide/maint.html#wp1139597
It seems that both disks were lost so even if they both come back after reseating, you might need to re-install the WAAS software as the raid array would have been lost.

Nicolas

  • Wae-574 single disk system replacement

    Hello,
We've had a wae-574 lose it's only disk. Can someone confirm the steps I need to do to replace it? I know I need to power off the unit and replace the drive. Do I need to do a disk shutdown beforehand?
Do I need to do anything to have it recognize the replacement drive and rebuild it?  All of the documentation I've found talks about replacing a drive in a multidrive raid 1 or raid 5 system but I'm not finding what steps I need to take in a single disk system scenario.
The system is still up and running it's just not accelrating any traffic at the moment.
    Thanks,
    Elliott

No problem. Mine knew the exact procedure but I had a hard time at the beginning convencing him the drive was actually dead since I could not generate the standard sysreprt or diagnostic report. There are no and apparently never were any drive lights. Once I got started I just had to figure out the missing pieces such as the de-register / re-register force stuff.. Also some of these did not apply as I do not have multiple drives for mirroring but the system let me know that. Here are the details he started me with...
++You need to burn this file into a disk and then follow these steps :
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/app_ntwk_services/waas/wae/troubleshooting/recoverycd/guide/17088rcd.html
There are 8 steps here, out of which you need to use 2,3,5 & 7 with the disk inserted and step 8 after manually removing the device. Step 7 should be repeated twice to make sure no file remains corrupted. Leave 1st,4th & 6th step entirely in this case.
++If you don’t have physical access to the device and the device is accessible remotely, you can download this file in accelerator.bin format from the Cisco website to your FTP server and install the software directly from there. In that case use this command on the CLI of the device :
    #copy ftp install ftpserver / waas-image.bin
(This example assumes that the file is in the root directory of the FTP server. Provide the correct path if needed.)
You can go through this document to refer how to install from FTP server:

  • WAE 574 resilience query

    Hi,
I am implementing WAAS on our network and am currently in the pilot phase, we are using WAE-7341 at our 3 data centre sites and 30 WAVE-574's at our branch sites.
As standard the WAVE-574's come with one hard drive, I am looking to buy an additional hard drive to go into each 574 so the disks are configured in a RAID 1 for resiliance.
My question is, if we were to keep with having just the one hard drive in each device and that hard drive went down, how would it effect the WAE and optimisation?
Would the WAE stay up? would it carry on accelerating traffic without local caching? if the device was rebooted would the device come back up? I'm trying to get an idea of what impact it would have if we didn't have a resiliance hard drive configuration.
Many thanks in advance for your help
    Adam

    Adam,
The 574 equipped with a single hard drive that failed would stay accessible on the network but would not be able to optimize or accelerate any traffic. The disk when replaced would also need the operating system re-installed. If the 574 were equipped with two disks in a RAID1 and were to lose a disk it would continue to function normally but without the redundancy. The failed disk would simply need to be replaced and redundancy would return once the RAID rebuilds anywhere from 2 to 5 hours.
    Regards
    Dave

  • Add RAID 1 to WAE 574

I just received a brand new WAVE-574 for our branch office, and noticed that it was shipped with a single drive configuration.  I just bought an additional hard drive from Cisco to go into this WAVE-574 so the disks are configured in a RAID 1 for redandancy.   I have been looking for configuration and setup instructions, but without any luck so far.
Could you please let me know the setup procedures?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!

    Hi Rocky,
The links I provided are config guide links and you only need appropriate CCO id to access them. I do not think these are partner only links.
Let me paste some of the details from the links provided by me and Fabio here:
    Replacing a Hard Disk Drive
The WAVE appliance supports as many as two 3.5-inch (Large Form Factor) SATA hard drives.
When replacing hard drives to the WAVE appliance, observe the following general guidelines:
•The system automatically sets all drive numbers.
•If only one hard drive is used, install it in the bay with the lowest drive number.
•Drives  must be the same capacity to provide the greatest storage space  efficiency when drives are grouped together into the same drive array.
Note All hard disk drives being used in the appliance must be identical.
Caution To  maintain proper system cooling, do not operate the appliance for more  than 10 minutes without either a hard disk drive or a filler panel  installed in each bay.
To replace a hard disk drive in a bay, follow these steps:
Step 1 Review the information in the "Safety Warnings and Cautions" section on page 2-2 and the "Safety Guidelines" section on page 2-3.
Step 2 Make sure that the chassis cover is in place and fully closed.
Step 3 Power down the device and and disconnect the power cord and all external cables.
Step 4 Slide the latch and then pull out the handle (see Figure 4-4).
Figure 4-4     Removing a Hard Disk Drive
Step 5 Pull the drive assembly from the bay.
Step 6 Wait  1 minute and then insert the new drive into the same slot by aligning  the replacement drive assembly with guide rails in the bay and sliding  the drive assembly into the bay until it stops. Make sure that the drive  is properly seated in the bay.
Step 7 Close the drive handle.
Step 8 Reboot the WAVE appliance.
Step 9 Check  the hard disk drive status LED after the system has booted to verify  that the hard disk drive is operating correctly. If the amber hard disk  drive status LED for a drive is lit continuously, that drive is faulty  and must be replaced. If the green hard disk drive activity LED is  flashing, the drive is being accessed.
Step 10 Wait 1 minute and then verify that the replaced disk drive is in the Rebuilding state by using the show disks details command in EXEC mode.
Note The  system automatically starts the rebuild operation when it detects the  removal and reinsertion of a drive that is part of the logical RAID  drive.
Step 11 Wait  until the rebuild operation is complete. A disk rebuild operation may  take several hours. You can check if the rebuild operation is complete  by using the show disk details command in EXEC  mode. The physical drive state will be Online and the RAID logical drive  state will be Okay after the rebuild operation is completed.
Step 12 Use the show disk tech command in EXEC mode to verify that the firmware and BIOS information is correct for both hard drives.
If you have multiple disk failures and your RAID-1 logical status is  Offline, you must recreate the RAID-1 array. For more information on  disk removal and replacement procedures, see the Cisco Wide Area Application Services Configuration Guide, Chapter 15, "Maintaining Your WAAS System."
Performing Disk Maintenance for RAID-1 Systems
WAAS supports hot-swap functionality for both failed disk replacement  and scheduled disk maintenance. When a disk fails, WAAS automatically  detects the disk failure, marks the disk as bad, and removes the disk  from the RAID-1 volume. To schedule disk maintenance, you must manually  shut down the disk.
You must wait for the disk to be completely shut down before you  physically remove the disk from the WAE. When the RAID removal process  is complete, WAAS generates a disk failure alarm and trap. In addition, a  syslog ERROR message is logged.
Note If  the removal event (such as, a disk failure or software shutdown) occurs  while the RAID array is in the rebuild process, the RAID removal  process may take up to 1 minute to complete. The duration of this  process depends on the size of the disk.
If the WAAS software removes a failed disk during the RAID rebuild  process, a RAID rebuild failure alarm is generated. If you  administratively shut down the disk during the RAID rebuild process, a  RAID rebuild abort alarm is generated instead.
When you install a replacement disk, the WAAS software detects the  replacement disk and performs compatibility checks on the disk,  initializes the disk by creating partitions, and adds the disk to the  software RAID to start the RAID rebuild process.
If the newly inserted disk has the same disk ID as a disk that was  previously marked bad in the same physical slot, then the disk will not  be mounted, and the post-replacement checks, initialization, and RAID  rebuilding will not occur.
A newly installed disk must be of the same type as the old disk and it must meet the following compatibility requirements:
•If  the replacement disk is for disk00, disk02, or disk04 of a RAID pair,  the replacement disk must be the same size as the running disk in the  array.
•If  the replacement disk is for disk01, disk03, or disk05 of a RAID pair,  then the replacement disk must have the same or greater RAID capacity as  the running disk in the array.
Compatibility checks, which are part of the hot-swap process, check for  capacity compatibility. Incompatibility generates an alarm and aborts  the hot-swap process.
Table 15-3 shows the drive-type compatibility for the WAE-612. All drives must be the same type.
    Table 15-3     WAE-612 Drive-Type Compatibility Matrix
    Drive Types SAS1 SATA22
    SAS
    Ok
    No
    SATA2
    No
    Ok
    1 Serial Attached SCSI
2 Serial Advanced Technology Attachment 2
To perform disk maintenance, follow these steps:
Step 1 Manually shut down the disk.
    a. Enter the disk disk-name diskxx shutdown command in global configuration mode.
    b. Wait  for the disk to be completely shut down before you physically remove  the disk from the WAE. When the RAID removal process is complete, WAAS  generates a disk failure alarm and trap. In addition, a syslog ERROR  message is logged.
Note We recommend that you disable the disk error-handling reload option, if enabled, because it is not necessary to power down the system to remove a disk.
Step 2 Insert  a replacement disk into the slot in the WAE. The replacement disk must  have a disk ID number that is different from the disk that it is  replacing.
Step 3 Reenable the disk by entering the no disk disk-name diskxx shutdown global configuration command.

  • HARD DISK PROBS / TIME MACHINE not behaving with TC ? READ THIS!!!!

I had many probs with the hard disk and now have a happy healthy TC working great with time machine, so I though I'd share my experiences with others hoping it will save you my huge pain !
    i,
I've spent hours and hours trying to get the harddisk to work properly. Set-up was easy-peasy and the Airport works great for the internet. However, when trying to use time-machine and the hard disk it was a nightmare !!! Each attempt at the back-up failed after about 4 gig with a 'unable to mount volume' error. If I re-tried, it failed. Following some of the tips on the forums, I deleted the back-up file created by time machine on the hard drive and the initial back-up started successfully but failed after about 4 gig again (I had 96 gig to back-up). There are various fixes flying around -
*_ensure you have a name for your computer - should be short and no spaces or funny characters. Same goes for your name of the timecapsule. Some people are saying you should use an ethernet cable for your first back-up but that should not matter at all.*_ I took mine back to the apple store in the end - a mac genius downloaded all the latest patches (only came out 19th march) for the time-capsule firmware, time machine software and airport express. Still didn't work, so conclusion was the time-capsule was knackered !!! SO MY RECOMMENDATION IS TO GET APPLE TO REPLACE IT BUT MAKE SURE YOU TRY THE ABOVE FIRST.
New time-capsule was attached to my imac, started up great first time. My initial back-up ran through perfectly first time through wireless - it took 15 hours but I did have 96 gig to back-up. time machine sees this no problem so it looks like everything is fine. _*I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE TC WAS MUCH MORE QUIET AND LESS HOT.*_
    Good luck !!

    Hi,
Well, The external drive you have problem with is from a third party vendor :-)
I just looked up your model and we need to start over.

How do you connect it to your computer?
Is it plugged in to the router via ethernet and you access it over WiFi.
The drive needs to be setup as per supplied instructions.
The manufacturer says it is Time Machine compatible but from my experience I know this is not switched on by default.
The main reason why you cannot access it is you basically have to set it up for your use and most likely authenticate to it.
At this stage I'm quite sure there is no much wrong with that drive. It just need setting up.
Let me know if you have any instructions from Seagate which you can follow.

  • WAE 674 Disk based software not installed.

    Hi,
Have an WAE 674 with 4.4.3c installed, with problem.
Using WCCP and I am able to logon to the device.
Have this msg and in in the CM it is down.

Some applications may not run correctly!
    Any sugestion?
    I have reload still problem.
    Regards Jan Rockstedt

What steps did you take to resolve the issue? I have the same issue on WAVE 594 running 4.4.5.
I get the error message when I telnet into device.

    Hi dast357;
If you have the protection plan, they should. That is why you paid for it.
Do make sure you have current backups because there is a good chance they will replace the drive for you.

  • Creative Zen hard disk prob

Hello, having some problems with my 30 gig ZenXtra.
    Had it for about a year with no problems but just turned it on and it came up with the rescue screen with the options;
    Clean Up
    Format all
    Reload OS
    Reboot
I tried clean up and it made no difference, reload os came up with 'harddisk problem' and reboot made no difference.
Is there anything I can do bar formatting?
    Thanks

Might try removing battery for 30 seconds or so then reinsert and power up... This has worked in the past when my micro goes ga-ga.
    Good Luck

    Hi all,
Does anybody have a serial console cable, and showing how 9 pin in both end should go to?
    Jan Rockstedt

    Hi Jan,
I ran into the same issue and there is little info on the pins. Purchased blank DB9 to RJ45 backshells and created our own. The pins below work with the Rollover cable conected to it to manage via Console 512/612.

  • [nForce] sata disk probs...

Hmmm...firstly I apologise if I may have posted something similar to this before!
    Anyway my problem is:
I am having trouble accessing my maxtor 6y200m0 sata drive, the Nforce3 sata raid driver that came with my board has been corrupted on the floppy, so I have downloaded and used the one from the NVIDIA website (thanks guys!!) and the maxblast 4 file from the Maxtor site, But when I try to access it, windows tells me it needs formatting (and if I try to format it, then it crashes!...windows recognises it in "my computer" and reports it on diagnostic programs, but it wont let me access it)
I have (as far as I can tell) set up my BIOS for Sata...but didnt put the Raid on as I wasnt sure if I needed it for one Sata!
Can anyone offer any suggestions for this problem?
    thanks in advance

Try HDD in other PC or try other SATA in this PC to see if it's a HDD problem.

  • Devkit-disks-probe-ata-smart causes HSM Violations on SSD

I've just experienced the same problem identified on this Ubuntu bug report:
    https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … mments=all.
It seems to be a general Linux kernel problem, and there are reports of it on Arch. Is a solution on the way?
My SSD started playing up, first exhibiting bad sector errors, then suddenly becoming read only as I was using it and finally refusing to mount when I booted complaining about a possible zero length partition. It also manifested the same problems described in this bug report when I booted up. Fortunately its the drive where I have my home partition, so its recoverable (not sure about the data in it, but there's nothing I can't afford to lose, even if I'd prefer not to).
I'm running Toofishes' patched eee kernel on an Asus 900. I'm fairly up to date (a week out at most). Is there a fix already in pacman, or do I try and apply this patch to my Arch system somehow? If so, how exactly. I'm okay with modifying the file, though I think its in a different place, but I'm a bit worried about it being overwritten by future updates.
Also, any ideas for recovering the drive, or restoring it. Writing 0s all over it seems a little drastic, and I'd prefer not to lose my home drive if I can.

  • Many small probs with my K8N Neo

    Specs:
K8N Neo Platinum w/ newest version of BIOS (I checked)
    1 GB PC3200 Kingston RAM (2x512MB)
ATI brand Radeon 9700 pro 128MB
    60.0GB Maxtor 5400RPM HD
    500w Viomax PSU (30A on +3.3V, 50A on +5V, 25A on 12V)
No other PCI cards installed at the moment
    Problems:
    1. My computer won't restart. Whenever Windows calls for a restart or I hit the button myself, the screen goes blank while everything else stays active. People here told me it was my PSU. My Radeon 9700 Pro requires an extra floppy power cable so I thought I'd test out another video card that didn't need extra power to see what would happen. My comp worked fine with a 9200. So I bought a 500w Viomax PSU, a cheap one, yes, but it got good reviews. I stuck it in there and my comp STILL wouldn't restart normally. It has changed however: it'll restart the 3rd or 4th time I hit the button, but never the first..... which it definitely should.
    2. My HD wasn't recognized by my mobo. After doing the first part of installing WinXP pro, my computer restarted (well, I had to switch the PSU off then on again to get it to work) but then I got "Error loading operating system." After a while of trial and error I arbitrarily changed the "Access Mode" in CMOS to "Large" instead of "Auto". Bingo, it worked, yay. Even though it works now, I still don't like the idea that my mobo couldn't automatically recognize my HD. I tested different ribbon cables and other HDs that I knew worked fine in other computers but they all wouldn't work in mine unless I put the setting on Large. hmmm.
    3. The supplied nVidia IDE driver slows down my computer and causes Video Errors. The windows logo takes FOREVER to show up (or it will freeze in the middle of its fading it for 10-15s) when those IDE drivers are installed. As soon as I uninstall them everythings chipper though. Note that this problem is IDE, which might go along with why my HD isn't recognized.
    4. When I open GoodMem, a memory manager/monitor that came with the mobo, my computer drastically slows down to a point where it's literally not usable. If I close GoodMem, it goes back to normal. I tried out a 256MB stick of my sisters just to see what happens and what'da ya know, GoodMem works perfectly.
I've never built a computer before and all this really makes me wanna RMA my board....... so here's the big question.... SHOULD I?
    Thanks everyone,
    -Robert Lee

    Hi
sounds more like a Disk prob, or Windows prob than Mobo or CPU,
Did you format the HDD on this comp, if it was formatted on another machine, it can cause it not to be recognised.
Virus or Spy progs can slow down a comp,  Try Task Manager, Ctrl +Alt + del, see what procs are running, if there is a strange unknown one it may be cause. If you go to the processor heading, the proc idling should not be using much CPU time, if something is using a lot of CPU time and is not essential, close it and see if it helps.
For the HDD, try disk management. Right click My computer, then manage then disk management, you will see if disk are healthy, you can also check them for probs.
May need defraged, and Chkdsk run.
In device Manager, does the IDE HDD show as OK, no yellow marks. You could try updating driver,
    cheers

  • Cisco WAE registration problem

    Hello,
I have a data centre WAE-574 using WCCP redirect. Behind a firewall I have the CM. In a remote location, +/- 600ms RTT, I have another WAE-574 in line mode. This was working perfectly until it was powered off. It lost all its config on recovery. I reloaded the config but cannot get it to register. The central-manager address is correct but when I enter 'cms enable' on the remote WAE it times out after several minutes. I have deleted the device from the CM.
If I check the data centre WAE with the "show stat conn" I can see sessions between the CM and remote WAE on port 443.
    WADMZJA02#sh stat conn

There is nothing I can find in the CM logs that relates to the remote WAE. Is this a timer issue ? Where can I see further diagnostics ?
    Best regards

    Hello,
The problem was WCCP. This was removed and the device registered and came online. However, When WCCP was re-enabled I now get the device going offline again. Is this an SSL issue between the 2 WAEs ?
