Waiting too long for an answer for waiting too long

For the past month and a half I have been monitoring this discussion area and working with Apple Support and all to no avail. I seem to be the only person on the planet with this problem.............still.
I bought a 17" PB last July and with it the Airport Extreme package with the mushroom on the shelf. I have also accepted every update that has come along since then. All of a sudden, a procedure that I have been doing since July of last year, and coincidently time with a update to the computer and Airport, I can no longer do. It was possible to be on-line wirelessly at 100' minimum from my computer room and the Airport module. On occasion, I could eek out a signal at 150' in the master bedroom at the far end of the house. Now, if I should venture 15' from the computer room, I don't have a signal.
I have been through Apple support twice, taken my computer to the dealer for inspection,(which i passed), and tried just about every idea that has been put forward as a fix in this discussion area.
Two things have not happened: one, nothing has fixed the problem, and two, no one has seemingly come up with the fix. But more perplexing is the fact that no one is concerned.
Something has happened and I would really like to fix the problem.
And that is my rant for the year.

Monty, Let's start by first welcomeing you to the discussions.
The problem you mention is not unusual, There are several things that seem to cause this, the least of which appear to be caused by your Internet Service Provider, but not always..
Now your problem..
Start by first DO Not Change Any of your settings, especially if it was working correctly.
Next shut your computer clear off.
Unplug the AC Adapter from your Internet Service Providers Modem.
Unplug the AC Adapter from your Airport Extreme Base.
Make sure you have all periphials unplugged.
Now here is the hardest part is the wait.
Wait a minimum of 5 minutes..
After this wait. plug in your Internet Service providers Modem.
Wait until it re-aquires all of the lights, ( Normally 3) Depending on there Modem.
After you get your lights, plug back in your Airport Extreme Base Station.
Again you have to wait on your Base to Aquire the lights..
After you have all the lights on both your Modem and your Airport extreme base then and only the you can re-start your Computer...
Normally this will fix your problem..However, I have had to do this up to 3 times exactly as I said, to get everything to work correctly.
I have done this several times as I said caused by storms, Providers maintence and the like. a power blip several things can cause it..
Try what I mentioned an it should work for you, as I said if your settings are correct.. .......Do Not Get In A Hurry.......This can take upwards of 1/2 hour to complete.

    Today, i met a problem: Application cannot connect to database because database hang ( I also cannot connect to database with sqlplus) . Check alert log, only one error:

    The Row Cache is actually the Data Dictionary Cache. It is where definitions from the data dictionary (tablespaces, objects, users etc) are loaded into memory.
    There would be an associated trace file written with the occurrence of this warning.

    It is possible that the iForgot email is being sent to an email that you are unaware is defaulting as a rescue account. Try checking all email accounts that you may have had in the past, if they are still active.
    Contact Apple Support as they may be able to send the email to a working email.

  • How long do I wait for A DVD with Lion? 3.5Gb download would use 50% of my months amount - too much too slow.

    At 3.5Gb download, it will be too much for many MAc users.  How have 3 Macs that will run Lion but a download of 3.5Gb, as I am told, would use 50% of my family monthly download of 7Gb.  I'm not going to go that way which leaves me with no options unless I can buy a DVD.  APple shouldn't assume everyone has a massive download limit or very fast download speed.

    Don';t worry you are not alone.
    1) There will be no DVD (as of time of writing)
    2) There *will* be a USB Dongle though, available August from Apple
    3) You can go to an Apple Store (If you have one! ) - Download the Installer and BEFORE YOU RUN IT, you can either create a DVD or clone it. This is because when the installer runs it self destructs.
    4) Note you only need to download once - you can the use 3) above to clone and update up to 5 Macs on the same Appleid.

  • DVR Problem w/QIP7232P2 DVR Operation; HOW Long will I have to wait for 1.9.1?

    THE SHORT PROBLEM:
    1) DVR records only a few moments of pre-scheduled events then the recording stops with only 10 to 30 seconds stored content and this is reported in the on screen detail.
    2) DVR records a full 1 hour show however, after 20 or so minuets of playback, use of the fast forward, skip (to get around a commercial) or pause DVR functions will cause the playback to jump to the end and you can't see the rest of the story.  One must start the show over again, view stuff you have seen before to get to where the error happen.  If you fast forward too close to the point of the error, you will get dumped out of the show all over again.  Once you get close you just have to watch commercials and what you have seen before and then not use any DVR functions in order to watch the rest of the show.
    3) DVR records a full 1 hour show, you fast forward to a time that is say 50% into the show, the progress bar will move forward like normal to show you get close to the point of you stopped watching the show before (to help solve problem #2 above) BUT, if you go too far, the progress bar will jump back to the start of the show and you may be dumped out of the program or it may continue to move forward.  However the operation of the progress bar is not right.
    This would render the DVR less then useful.  Verizon has replaced my STB and talked me through the reset of AC power operation that is the normal fix for most STB issues.  I'm told this will require a software upgrade from 1.9 to 1.9.1.  OK, GET IT DONE and CREDIT USERS OF DVRs THE FEE PAID FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT WORKING.
    THE LONG STORY WITH DETAILS:
    All seemed to be well with the unit for a few months and the upgrade to the new 1.9 software looked like it went off without a hitch.
    But.....Starting on around 12/17/11 I noticed that my DVR was recording only about 10 to 30 seconds of programming during scheduled events.  Sometimes it would attempt to record the same event one or two times, each only lasting a few moments.  I called Verizon customer service I think on 12/20/11 and they asked me to pull the 120 volt power and then re-apply power.  This helped the problem but, remote testing seemed to show an issue and the customer rep decided a replacement unit was needed and Order No. MDDQ08V49U was created and another set-top box was shipped to me.
    It is too bad that the technology has been developed to allow the external storage of digital content however, one can't back the 200 plus hours of video one may have stored on a set-top box and restore it on a new unit.  It is also not possible to reproduce the vast extent of scheduling of events.  No, it seems when you change out a set top box, all the programming is gone and you have to spend an afternoon coping down the schedule from the Series Manager and then re-enter all new events by making new recording events; a very time consuming operation.
    So it is frustrating once after this afternoon is wasted reprogramming a new set-top is all done with the new set-top box installed, I find that on 1/5/12 when viewing recorded programming that should be one hour long, I only seem to get 22 minutes of playback.  I try to look at this in detail and see that the first 22 minutes indeed play back in a normal manor.  One is able to use the jump forward mode to skip over a commercial and all is good.  If after 22 minutes you don't do anything, playback will continue to the end of the 1 hour.  BUT, if after the first 22 minutes you try the skip or pause function, the program will jump to the end screen where you are given the option to: Program Options Page were you can select Play, Save until I delete, or Delete.
    On 1/4/12 I called Tech Support and asked what to do about this 2nd box having yet another DVR problem.  Once again I was asked to cycle the 120 volt AC power and disconnect and reconnect the coax "because electricity can build up in the set-top box".  (I thought that was a cute reason).  I asked the Customer Service rep if this was a Tier 2 or Tier 3 Troubleshooting method and she told me she was not authorized to tell me. 
    1/5/12 a Manager calls me back to follow up on a survey from the December service call and after seeing that I had a trouble ticket on 1/4 to see what is going on. He attempts to talk me into getting the on screen diagnostic screen to come up (press a mix of power and OK) but that just does not work like the old set-top box. We review the problem and he is not sure what else to do then send a Tech to the house to review the problems.  He did tell me the STB I had in December WAS a known bad number; something about an issue with ribbon cable fault going to the hard drive.  Well OK, but it seems ODD that the two like problems seem to happen to a known bad box and now to a new box that is not in the "bad" lot of numbers.  This new STB also had been running 1.9 like the old STB for some number of weeks/months without issue then BANG, a problem pops up!  It seems like this is a deeper problem but I trust with all the fact Verizon can find the right answer.
    1/6/12 Aaron Phelps, Cable Splicing Technician comes to look at the problem. Nice guy!  I show him the two recorded shows that have the problem.  He can't get the on-screen diagnostic up but we use the test via the Main Menu and all readings seem OK.  He also tests signals via an external meter with good results. 
    At last, he calls Tier 2 Tech support and I'm told by him that it seems some bug is in ver 1.9 and we will have to wait a month for a 1.9.1 to come out that should address a memory issue in the DVR.  I don't know is this is the real story but Aaron tells me the ONLY fix they have is to swap out STB and he has no other 7232 units so... I'd have to go back to a smaller hard-drive or wait a month to see what happens.
    To say again, it is a problem when the only answer in practice is to reboot the STB or replace it and this does not solve the problem.  The field Techs don't know about a software bug less they call tier 2 support.  Also, as it is so common to just replace the STB, the process may take only a moment in physical action to swap wires HOWEVER, it is an afternoon to get programming done so a new DVR is recording all the shows a Customer has established; on top of the time talking to phone Tech support and waiting for someone to show up to the home, that is a considerable investment in Consumer time.  If you can't back up the content with the local drive due to copyright issues how about a cloud approach? I'd encourage a known bug to be resolved quickly and perhaps solve the manor that a STB is backed-up and replaced.

    Claire had the added problem that a pre set event she set to record change by an hour.  I've not seen this but, I see in the Forum URL below, another person had the same problem as reported by "DC-Videophile" on 01-01-12 at 08:33 PM.  On this same forum "rich3fan" reports problems that I have on 01-04-12 11:54 AM.  The very bad news would seem from "markjrenna" 01-04-12 09:29 PM where it is suggested that 1.9.1 will not be out before 1Q12!!!!  That is a long time to have this problem.

    I notice with this event, when you hit fast forward, the progress bar moves forward with time then at a point it goes back to the start point, even when good video is playing in fast forward.  This program worked beyond 22 min then failed at maybe 38 min.  When I tried again, it failed at another point earlier (maybe 15 min) so it does not have a pattern.

    I am having the same problems. My guess is that a lot of people are having the same problems and just living with it. Those of us who know where to go on the Internet come here to find a fix.
    It seems Verizon has some explaining to do. Maybe they should try Beta testing new software a little better. I would rather have to wait longer for something that works. I am sure that some manager or director said this is close enough, deploy it and we will see what happens. Well, you are seeing the problems. Time to fix your mistake.
    All of us are telling our friends about the problems. The longer this goes on, the more people we will tell about it.
    Wouldn't you rather us be telling our friends that their is an error in the new interface and that you are working hard to fix it?
    If you want to be up front about this, then just tell us. We are adults and can handle it. If you made a mistake, own up to it and give us some credit for doing your Beta testing in the field.
    Customer Service is all about telling the truth and if you made a mistake, admit it and lets move on with a fix. I do not want to be told again that I should be able to unplug it, power cycle it, try the on-board diagnostics, etc., etc.......
    I am going to be repsonding on a daily basis to keep this topic at the top of the list.
    Time to come clean. You will feel better Verizon.

  • How much is too much to wait for the computer to work

    I need some help and ideas on this one since I am about to throw out every Apple product I have out the window.
    Let me try and keep it short:
    got my iMac end of June
    it crashes mid September
    took it to authorized service, told it will be fixed in two days, took them 35 days
    since I got it back it was always crashing and not working properly even though they said they replaced the hard drive and logic board and that that was the original problem with it
    about 20 days later when I saw there are too many problems with it to me something minor (internal mic never worked since I got it back from service, crashing all the time, iMovies won't open because of some mess in iPhoto library, etc)
    Apple sent on site repair, the guy replaced 7 parts in the computer!
    7-10 days later, the computer shuts down in the middle of the movie and won't turn back on.
    Before sending on site repair guy, the senior adviser told me that if the repair doesn't get my computer to stay working, I will get my computer replaced. After the computer died this last time, I called him and can not get him to call me back. I actually called him twice this week, in his work hours and didn't get a call back. So I guess all their "I am so sorry for the inconvenience, we will get to the bottom of this and get your computer working or replace it" is just bs they tell you to get you off the phone??
    Now the new senior ad. says I will get replacement if this repair doesn't work. Also was told I will get a call back from repair service in 24 hrs, which didn't happen. So here we go again! I even called the very first sen. ad. I got the number from - yes, you can guess, never heard back from her either.
    I have a list of 4 or 5 senior advisers that all tell me to call them if something we agreed on doesn't work, but I never can get to them nor do I get call backs.
    So out of the 5+ months I had the computer so far, it worked as much as it was broken. Now with holidays coming, who knows how long will I have to wait.
    This is really frustrating, to be told they will fix it or replace it yet I keep having to deal with not having a working computer.
    Is there anyone that is above the people that keep giving me their numbers without actually following up that I can contact and find out when can I get a working computer that doesn't have parts breaking down every week!!?!??!??!?

    Belle firstly has not been released.
    secondly Belle will not be released for existing symbian ^3 or symbian anna phones till after the whole world has Anna, to which Canada and Australia and some other places still do not have.
    And lastly Nokia do not do world wide releases, they are released based on carrier approval.
    So when it is released it will be given to the carriers first for testing then once approved it will then be released to the public. If it is not approved due to errors it will be taken back and fixed, then resubmitted for testing and so on until it is approved. However if the carrier just says no they dont want it released, then Nokia will not release it at all to any customers that are on that carrier.
    So just like Anna, you will have to wait till it is ready and testing has been completed and the carriers give the approval.
    Skyee has confirmed that Belle will not be released until after the Anna roll out is completed.

  • Is it possible to wait longer for USB with mkinitcpio-solved

    Hi,
    I recently installed from an arch0.7.2-base CD, but can't boot after the mkiniticpio upgrade, including with the kernel26-fallback.img.
    My root partiition is on a USB hard-drive, and it seems like the drive isn't being detected in time.
    With mkinitrd I could specify a delay to wait for USB devices to settle, but there doesn't appear to be anything similar in mkinitcpio, is there?
    This may not be the problem at all, of course, but on one occasion when I booted with break=y, just after the message about break requested, there is no ls binary etc.,
    usb2-4: new fullspeed USB device using OHCI_HCD address 2
    came up, which looked like it had found the USB device, but too late.
    (This is after it says it failed to detect the filesytem type etc.)
    When I do break=y and echo /dev/*, my hda devices are there,  but there are no sda devices, just  a series of usbdev files (e.g. usbdev1.1_ep00 ).  Is that normal?
    Sorry for posting yet another mkinitcpio question.
    Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Let me know if there's any other output I should post.

    Update:
    I'm fairly certain the lack of wait time for USB is the problem now.
    I can now boot into arch fine provided I use break=y.
    I get the messages about about not finding the root device then the break requested section then, after the ramfs$ prompt appears I get
    SCSI device sda: [number] 512-byte hdwr sectors [number] MB
    and so on...
    and when I type exit at the prompt it boots fine.
    To get this far I rebuilt the kernel26.img with the following in mkinitcpio.conf:
    MODULES="usb-storage ext3"
    HOOKS="base udev autodetect usb filesystems"
    (Not sure about this, but it seems putting usb-storage in modules got me this far?)
    I still need to get it to delay for USB for a bit longer so I don't have to type 'exit' at the ramfs prompt every time I want to boot, or is it some other problem?
    If this has been dealt with before, then sorry for the repetition, but I can't find anything covering it elsewhere.

    except I'd really like to be able to tell anyone viewing the page
    to please hang on and wait during the buffer period on the
    progressive download. it takes anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds for
    the player skin to appear and start playing the video.. I have
    previously been using embedded WMP which seems to have an advantage
    in this department since the player skin would immediately appear
    and display a buffering video % which would let anyone viewing the
    page know that the video is downloading and is about to play. With
    the flash they have no idea and the page appears not to be working
    for a "long" time (5 to 20 seconds) since not even the skin
    appears. Is there a way to improve these faults? My video is about

    Where did you choose to download the install files too?  This often occurs when choosing a location the Adobe Download Assistant does not have permission to write too.  Please cancel the download and try again this time choosing the default location of your User folder.

    Referring back to the thread above which seems to have gone 'cold' and for some strange reason the second page of that thread no longer appears/exists.
    But on that second page someone mentioned the solution below (with the idea that the EPG was causing the issue of pages rendering slow. Page render fine using Glassfish in another environment).

    the idea that the EPG was causing the issue of pages rendering slow. Page render fine using Glassfish in another environment). Probably the value of the SHARED_SERVERS parameter needs to be increased.
