Wallstreet w/OS 8.6 and a Stylewriter 2500?

This sweet old Wallstreet won't stop working so I need to find a suitable printer......as an earlier topic posted revealed, matching it to a Stylewriter II seems not to be an easily workable option so I found a 2500 on ebay but can find no specs defining the system limitations. I use the Wallstreet to store /read/print receipts from an older Visioneer Paperport that also is so easy to use and refuses to break. I would upgrade the Wallstreet's system to 9 to make my choices easier but I'm afraid then the Paperport will begin acting up as I have a fit getting a stable Paperport window on my ibook running OS 10.3.9.
Any help would be appreciated
Gee it aint easy getting old.....

According to the Swedish handbook (S030-9904-A) for the Color StyleWriter 2500, the minimum requirements are a Macintosh computer with a 68020 processor, 4 MB of RAM and System 7.1. I guess that the corresponding information can be found here as well.
If possible, use the printer driver (Chooser extension) that came with the system software. Otherwise, you may want to try the CSW 2500 driver download here.
A StyleWriter II will work with SW II, SW 1200 or CSW 1500 drivers.

  • Replacement serial cable needed for an Apple Color Stylewriter 2500

    Hello,
I have a question. I lost the serial printer cable for an Apple Color Stylewriter 2500, but if I order a replacement serial printer cable from we love macs, will the cable still work just as good as the original apple cable? I didn't want to have troubles with printing and data errors with the replacement cable. Or should I try to get as close to original one as I can?
Any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks.

To answer some basic questions posted to aid people in helping me. These are
I believe it is version 11 of iphoto as i tried to update but it says it has the latest update and Mac is 2 weeks old from new.
    OS is Lion.
I have just tried to look everywhere on the Mac to see where the photos might be.
There are no error messages showing on screen and it was fine before my wife did what she did. Even though we have back -ups of 95% of the pictures. I would like to know what happened so that it won't happen again.

  • Running CC and importing some 2500 items to be rendered and aerendercore stalls

    System: Apple MP6,1 12-core, 1TB SSD, 64GB RAM, dual D700s.
This seems to happen now and then. It's not consistent, but when it happens it is obviously annoying. Up to the point where aerendercore is running flat out it's using all 24 threads on my MP6,1 12-core. Then it suddenly stalls and the aerendercore process falls down to using around 8% cpu as seen in Activity Monitor.
When aerendercore stalls it seems to be hung and the application cannot be quit.
Is there a solution for this or maybe a workaround I can employ.
    Thanks...

Ask in the AE forum and provide info about what your "2500 items" actually are made up of - comp settings, footage types, what effects/ features used, render settings, output module settings etc.. That aside there are some genuine compatibility issues with the flower vase MacPro and OSX 10.9.3 and you could be seeing some of them as well...

  • Hp c410 printer and netgear wnr 2500 wifi router

For the past 8 years, I have been using a linksys router.  Every night, I shutdown everything including the router and the internet modem.   The next morning I would re-start everything and the printer would automatically reconnect through the router.  I finally replaced the dinosaur of a router with a netgeat wnr 2500 wifi router.  Now when I shut down the router, I have to recreate the connection.  I have used both the manual method and the WPS method, and neither has held.  I have also had occasional problems with the connection being lost or being difficult to make.  I would appreciate any suggestions.
    This question was solved.

    Hey @iwilder,
I understand that since hooking up your new Netgear router your HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One C410a Printer fails to automatically reconnect to your network each morning as you disconnect all of your devices from power each night. However, your printer was able to automatically reconnect to your original Linksys router each day.  Because your printer does work fine once the wifi setup is run we know that the wireless card in your printer is functioning properly. I do believe that this issue is due to a setting conflict with the new Netgear router. I'm going to run you through some steps below to resolve this issue for you.
    Step 1: Connectivity:
When you plug in all your devices in the morning, ensure that you plug your router in first. Once the router is on and functioning, plug your printer in. If the printer is plugged in prematurely, your network connection wont be active on the router and will cause  your printer not to automatically reconnect to your network. Therefore, this may just be a case of not allotting enough time for your router to power on before plugging in your HP Photosmart.
    Step 2: Check Router Settings:
Certain settings on your router may cause your printer not to automatically reconnect. This doesn't meant that anything is 'wrong' with your router. It may just be that your router is doing its job too well and is not allowing your printer to automatically reconnect to the network as the printer is being seen as a 'threat'. To resolve this can I please have you ensure that the following ports are opened on your router and that the following settings are adjusted. If you're not sure how to adjust these settings on your own you may need to have Netgear support walk you through this.
    Incoming (UDP) Ports to Open:
    137, 138, 161, 427
    Outgoing (TCP) Ports to Open:
    137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500
    Please also check:
    - Mac Filtering should be OFF
    - Firmware updated
    - Firewall may need to be 'off' for testing
Once these settings have been checked, please unplug your devices. Plug your router back in first. Allow your router at least 30 seconds to re-establish its network connection and then plug your printer back in to verify if the printer automatically reconnects to your network.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • Wallstreet and os9

Hi all, i just got a PB G3 Wallstreet 233, and i had swapped out the HD and RAM, i go to boot up the OS 9 cd to install OS 9.0.1, and it says that i cant install when i try to start the macos install.app. Was wondering if there is any suggestions that can help me get os 9, so i can use xpostfacto to install tiger...thanks for the help in advance!!

    Vilem,
I am a little unclear on two points:
    - You mentioned using two 512MB memory modules; the Wallstreet (and also early iMac and Lombard) can run only a maximum of 512MB (2x256MB) plus the 256MB modules are a different architecture than generic 256s that meet all the specs. Here is one company that sells this specific memory:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/iBooks-PowerBooks/G3-Lombard/
    - Since you have just purchased the Wallstreet, are you aware of the OSX partitioning requirement of HDs larger than 8GB on the Wallstreet?
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106235
    - You are apparently using a machine-specific OS9 CD since it is version 9.0.1 which was never a general-release version. In addition, since it is pre-OS 9.1, it will not boot the Wallstreet.
    - If you want to install Tiger via XPostFacto, you can in fact install just Jag/10.2 or Panther/10.3, install XPostFacto, then install Tiger...no need to install 9.x if you have 10.2/.3 already installed.
"Runs on Mac OS 9.x or 10.2 through 10.4"
    http://eshop.macsales.com/OSXCenter/XPostFacto/
I hope you have either Tiger CDs or a DVD-ROM drive for the Tiger DVD. I had neither so I installed 10.4 on my Wallstreet by removing the HD and using a FireWire enclosure connected to my iBook; you still need to install XPostFacto with Tiger since XPostFacto modifies some files so Tiger will boot.

  • Wallstreet will not boot every time - Huh!? [scratches head]

So I just placed the hard drive in my Wallstreet Powerbook. Running G3 233 mHz, 320 megs Ram, OS 10.2.9. I reloaded all the software on the computer, everything worked great. So I installed the software for my PCMCIA Wireless card and USB card. It lock up a few times, but that's probably because I don't really have enough RAM. But ended up rebooting after that crash.
The next day I went to turn it on. It powered up but a blank screen popped up with a disk and a question mark on it.... So I put a OS 9.2 install disk in it to boot it off that. It took a few trys to get the computer to recognize the disk, but finally found it. I opened the start up disk and I can see my new hard drive. I choose that, and rebooted. No problems. I surfed the web and checked email. Everything worked fine, even the USB card.
So today I boot it up again and now It will not recognize the CD drive... I can not boot off either CD or hard drive. Have anyone ever had problems like this with their G3 Powerbook?

    Gauge,
Glad the replacement battery is working well.
The PRAM battery, actually called a rechargeable backup battery in powerbooks, has no reset. It is just a simple rechargeable battery without any electronics controlling it. Your Wallstreet is 9 years old and this battery may be losing its battle with Time.
Here is how the battery works and also how you can test it:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30580
It is a major disassembly to replace this battery, so if having a charged main battery installed and/or always having the power adapter connected maintains your time/date, I would not be concerned about replacing the PRAM battery if it is dead.

  • Can I use Apple StyleWriter with OS X

After getting good input from the board, I installed OSX and am now learning to use it.
With OS 9.2.2 I used two printers, the Apple StyleWriter 2500 and the EPSON 777. I would like to continue using the Apple StyleWriter with OSX, but don't know how to go about it. I have the Epson set up and working so I have found the correct way to get the printer on line.
Has anyone tried to install the Apple StyleWriter with the OSX?
I do have the driver that I downloaded for OS9.2.2, but don't know where I should insert it on the harddrive for OSX.
Any guidenace and or help would be appreciated.

Has anyone tried to install the Apple StyleWriter
    with the OSX?
All Apple StyleWriters will work via a serial connection in OS X. How do you have the StyleWriter connected to your computer?
I note that the StyleWriter 2500 has an optional LocalTalk configuration. The StyleWriter 2500 will not work in OS X via a LocalTalk connection through a LocalTalk to Ethernet bridge such as the AsanteTalk.
For OS X drivers for your printer via a serial connection, go to Christian
Walther's site. You will need to download the Foomatic for StyleWriter package. You will also need to install ESP Ghostscript. I would recommend using a newer version than found on the StyleWriter page. The newer version can be found here.
For more information on serial printing in OS X, please see my web page.

  • External Cardbus Firewire Hard drive Wallstreet

    I have a Wallstreet G3 upgraded to a G4.
    I have a cardbus IE1394 Firewire
I want to add an external firewire hard drive. I have to have one with it's own power supply, correct?
How large a drive can I get?
    What rpm?
Has anyone had any success with such a setup on the Wallstreet?
I am in System 9.2.2. That is why I want the external - to remove all my files to the external drive and reformat my internal hard drive and add system 10 to my internal.
    What problems do you forsee?
Any help will be gratefully considered.
    Gayle in Saginaw, MI

    Gayle,
A FireWire card works just fine in a Wallstreet in both 9.x and 10.x, and yes, you will want a FW HD with its own power supply. You can also use any size FW HD...there is no limitation. I would not spend a lot of money on the fastest drive since I don't believe you are editing video, etc, where speed is mandatory.
Please be aware that you cannot boot to an external drive through a FireWire PC card, only through built-in FireWire ports.
You will need to add the three FireWire extensions to your OS 9.2.2:
    FireWire CardBus Enabler 1.0.1
    FireWire Enabler 2.8.5
    FireWire Support 2.8.5
The above are the latest versions in 9.2.2 running on my Wallstreet. Since you are running 9.2.2, the easiest way to get the latest versions is this: Insert the FireWire PC card in the PCMCIA/CardBus slot; you should see a generic PC card icon on the desktop. Now launch your MacOS 9.2.2 Update and run it on top of your installed 9.2.2. The installer will "see" your FireWire hardware and install the two extensions it has, FW Enabler and FW Support.
The third necessary extension, FireWire CardBus Enabler 1.0.1, can be had by downloading "FireWire 2.5" here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58642
You will have to run the FireWire 2.5 Installer; then you can drag the older versions of FireWire Enabler and Support out of the Extensions folder, leaving just the FireWire CardBus Enabler extension. Now you can run the MacOS 9.2.2 Update (with the FW PC card inserted) and get the other two extensions.
    Regarding OSX:
    - What version do you want to run? The Wallstreet natively supports up to 10.2.8, and higher using XPostFacto.
    - What is the size of your internal HD?
    - How much built-in RAM do you have?

  • Stylewriter II on OS 10

Hi everybody. I'd like to resurrect my old Stylewriter II printer to my Gr Powerbook OS 10.3.9. Question: Has anybody done this and do the old drivers work under OS 10? Is there another, newer driver needed and available? Lastly, the only USB serial adapter I've seen is the Keyspan version at about $75. Anything cheaper out there?
    Thanks.

Yes! It can be done. And there are two methods. The first is quick and easy, the second is slow, satisfying and geeky.
Easy method one. Plug the StyleWriter into the Mac using the Keyspan adaptor. Install the OS X StyleWriter drivers from this site:
    http://cw.kolleegium.ch/stylewriter/
Job done. You can now print to your StyleWriter. Be aware that it only works with Canon based StyleWriters like the StyleWriter II - so you should have no problems.
Geeky method 2 - you'll need more than just a USB serial adaptor. To pull this off you are going to require:
    1 LC ethernet card
    1 LC Mac
1 Postscript RIP for Stylewriters. I recommend StyleScript.
Install the ethernet card and drivers on the LC series Mac. Plug the LC into your network and the StyleWriter into your LC.
Install the postscript RIP on the LC.
Hey presto! The LC and Stylewriter are now a Postscript printer and your OS X Mac will print to it quite happily. Okay, I know it's not very practical - but it is, at least, possible.

  • Powering Up Stylewriter 2200

Got a couple of stylewriter 2200s for practically nothing a year ago, couldn't find a power supply to test them with. I thought they would go well with my PB520c, or 190cs, or 1400c. I finally got a power supply, and they both don't show any result when I plug them in. Do they need to be hooked up to a computer to make noise or lights? Normally I would immediately blame the power supply, since they both act the same (nothing), but they have sat idle for quite a while. The power supply does get warm when plugged in. There is a bump on the bottom of it near where the cord connects that leads to the wall socket, that looks like it could be a light, that doesn't do anything.
Where would be a good place to find out if the printers or power supply are any good?

The Stylewriter must not be connected to a Mac to work(if it's a ColorStylewriter2200),there must be a green LED on top if it gets power. You may measure the voltage on the outcome of the powersupply. If there is no voltage it's defect. Is a battery attachment with battery there?

  • Wallstreet suddenly sleeps during boot

I was recently given a 266mhz Wallstreet with a cracked screen and broken solder joint on the power socket. I successfully re-soldered the power socket, and was able to install an early version of OSX, upgrade the hard drive, go back to OS9.22 (so I could try installing 10.3 using XPostFacto). The problem started after installing my new screen. Booting into OS9.22, everything looks great until the desktop is displayed. I see the menu bar along the top, and suddenly it goes to sleep with a flashing green light. I tried booting to my OS9 and my OSX CDs to try reinstalling, and it does the same thing. As soon as it displays the desktop on the boot disk, my Wallstreet enters sleep mode. Most of the time it won't wake up regardless of what I try. A couple times I noticed that it tried to wake up (showed desktop for a second before sleeping again) - possibly on the bootdisk attempts.
I tried re-seating everything inside, including pressing hard on the processor board. Removed the keyboard, CD & floppy drives (I have no working batteries). Removed the top memory module. Still no improvement.
    What could cause this?

    Mana,
I would try this test: Remove the HD, then boot to a CD. If the Wallstreet finally stays awake, your HD is probably affecting the magnetic sleep switch. Read this reply I made to a user with a similar problem:

  • Wallstreet won't recognize DVD card in lower slot, but OK in top slot, ideas?

I've had this Wallstreet since it was new, and it came with the DVD drive and card. It's performed fine over the years- though the DVD is a bit touchy when it heats up. I've replaced the PCMCIA cage twice. Since installing the 2nd one, the decoder card isn't recognized by the machine when I put it in the (proper) lower slot. It shows fine in the upper one, but that's not where it goes if I want the DVD player to work. I can get other cards (a USB/Firewire card and an Aria extreme card) to show up fine in the lower slot. In short, I can't tell if it's the card, or the cage that is the problem. Or if it's something else.
I replaced the PCMCIA cage the 2nd time (about 2 years after the first replacement) as it would no longer accept cards, and if I touched the machine wrong when playing a DVD, the screen would turn an ugly muddy green color and I'd have to reboot. It would also sometimes do that on its own without being jostled. It got more finicky as it got hotter. Could something on the logic board be a problem?
I've tried using the player in both 8.6 and 9.2.2, but the card doesn't appear when in the lower slot in either one. Any ideas before I fiddle with trying yet another card cage?
    Wallstreet 300MHz   Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier   8.6/9.2.2/10.2.8, 512MB, 60GB

    Maureen,
    Welcome to the Discussions.
It is curious that the DVD Decoder PC card would stop working at the same time you replaced the card cage. According to Apple, if other PC cards work in the lower slot, then the problem lies with the DVD Decoder card.
Just out of curiosity, shut down the Wallstreet, then perform a PRAM reset from a cold start. After releasing the keys for the PRAM reset, immediately press the shift key so no extensions load. If you then insert a PC card in either slot, you should get a message like "the necessary software to support this card is not present...do you wish to eject it?" Click 'no' and the card should still mount on the desktop with a generic icon. See if there is any difference when inserting the decoder card in the lower slot. Possibly a PRAM reset and/or extension conflict is causing a problem.
Are you sure you have all the DVD software components loading?

Generally when creating a Word file from either a Mac or Win7 pc and opening it on two different machines (either one first) it always prompts that the file is open and will be opened as read only.
However opening a CSS file does not prompt that it is already open on or from any machine which is causing code edits to be lost.
What we found from out testing:
    - The file can be saved from one user to the server and WILL NOT PROMPT on other machines until the saving machine has the Dreamweaver program closed completely
    - The file can be closed and  Dreamweaver minimised to the launch bar but it still will not register on other machines that it has been changed.
    - Also, until the  Dreamweaver program is closed on the machines, it will continue to open it's saved version of the file.
    Example Scenario:
    - User 1 opens test.css (which is 2000 lines) and adds some code to the end of the file to bring it up to 2500 lines

    - User 1 saves his file and closes it - but  Dreamweaver is still open.
    - User 2 also saves his file and leaves  Dreamweaver  open.
    - The server will report the size and last edit of the file the same as User 2 as he was the last person to save it (and if you open from the Win7 Machine it will show as User 2’s 2300 line version)
    - If User 1 then open's the file again (from either the 'recent' in Dreamweaver OR clicking on the file directly in Finder...which version opens.... The version that User 1 saved! Not the true version on the server, but the version that User 1 edited and saved with 2500 lines in it.
    - Same for User 2, he will open 'his' version with 2300 lines in.
    Other information:
    - Files are opened directly from the server
    - Sometimes the users will save incrementally and re-open
    - Most of the time users will save incrementally and keep the files open
    - The users will never not save incrementally and just save when closing the file once finished
    - The users are usually working on the files all day
    - It is always the bottom lines of code that are lost. It could be a case of the two versions being mixed up and cutting off the newly added lines based on the line count (possibly).
It is as if Dreamweaver is holding a cache of the version locally and then only properly looking back to the server when it has been completely closed. It is very difficult to see how the server is causing such an impact on these files, there are very few logs which are giving any indication to the root cause of the problems.
Anyone know if this is a known issue?
Is there a way that there can be a featured implemented on the server that doesn't allow another user to open a file if it is already open on another machine?
    Thanks

Your server file handling has nothing, and really nothing to do with Adobe software. If files don't get locked for (over-)writing and/or lose connection to the program opening them, then your server is misconfigured. It's as plain and simple and that. Anything from "known file types"/ file associations not being set correctly, MIME types being botched, crooked user privileges and file permissions, missing Mac server extensions, delayed file writing on the server, generic network timeout issues and what have you. Either way, you have written a longwinded post with no real value since you haven't bothered to provide any proper technical info, most notably about the alleged server. Either way, the only way you can "fix" it is by straightening out your server and network configuration, not some magic switch in Adobe's software.
