Want to get an ibook + 1 question

I am looking at lap tops to get. I'm checking out a couple of PC notebooks and the ibook G4 (14 inch). Probably going to get the ibook. I was wondering if anybody could tell me anything that I should purchase with the ibook (i.e. more RAM or something like that). Also if you could share your experiences with it thus far and if you are satisfied with it.
The question I have is that I also have a PC with iTunes and a lot of music on it. I was wondering if it was possible to transfer my music library from PC to ibook via external hard drive. Will it read on Mac's OS.
Any advice or expertise would help. Thanks

Laptop PC or MAC? my 2cent....
We have many Laptop here Acer, Compact, Hp, others.. and Mac.
The Mac we got around 5-7 years ago are still working!
A writer just changed is first Mac laptop (first generation must be over 9 years old!!! The Hard drive can get noisy this tells you that you are due for a changed. Anyway in Oct. 2001 the biggest HD was 48G for a Laptop 2.5" - Today you find 100G for $160 (pageComputer.com. Rules of thumb, 4 years is the limit for a HD. Regardless MAC or PC. Before 2002 the MAC had IBM Hard Drive! Anyway, the look, the care for the CPU, the Add on, Programs, well just simply better for Mac in General. PC are find too but they are PC, Ok for iTunes and the Web usage and Microsoft application but even having your Mac is not like owning a PC. We still have a nice LOOKING Shell iBook Tangerine working for Web etc.. (second generation)we gave it to our kids.
My Laptop is 4 years old PowerBook G4 titanium, still love it today. What I do hate about it? the technology is growing so fast that the Laptop does not have what the new one has today inside it! Someone her got the Dell 17", nice machine got most of it! a good screen and a good price too. Well Apple will have the Intel... then I will get another then with Intel but still a Mac. therefore did you ever find yourself behind the wheels of a nice car? like RR, Bentley, etc... well you got the feeling... it is like buying your Mac! See how CompUSA store is presenting all PC comparing to the MAC line. Movies, Magazine ad, TV show always are showing Mac products without PAYING them for it!!!!!!!!
Ahhh! Software issues? well let me tell you that is it true that PC have 10's of thousand more Stuff (junk)and Free (with some virus). The real programs and the one you need and all utilities are there by the bumdle for you Mac. Do not forget the OS is Unix, you can control Linux (all are free - not the best looking apps), or start a PC without quitting your Mac (Virtual PC like) although not as fast but very impressive (for a show off).
TIPS:
1- get all the RAM you can get (see Froogle.com, buy a MacAddict Mag or MacWorld - published by PCWorld look at the last pages,
2- get the biggest HD, get the DVD-R (good for Backup). For a Laptop I like to spend the most $$$ every 5 years. For a Station Tower the one just under the best model (technology is just going to fast, that the money spent on the top model is not well spent)
3- Yep! agree on the external HD. Dot Mac is cool for backup too! but do buy an external HD for real back up. or a nice Ipod as a back up? (bad idea, you loose it... you are dead)
4- I did look at prices the other day if you spend lot of money on either one.. the price will be the same! I spent 4 years ago $3650 for the top of the line Laptop. Today is the same price. For the cheapest the Mac start at $950 and PC you can find them just a bit less (Dinner pockect money for 4 years of pleasure?)

If your iPhone can't be updated to a higher iOS version then the only way to get them is if you downloaded versions of them which were compatible with iOS 4.2.1 and you still have copies of those versions somewhere e.g. on your computer or on a backup - only the current version of each app is available in the store, and as apps (and other content) are tied to the account that downloads them, you will need to have older copies that are linked to your id

  • How can I get the iBook app on my Mac to backup ePubs I created with Pages on my iPad? Only seems to want to work with purchased from the ibook store.

How can I get the iBook app on my Mac to backup ePubs I created with Pages on my iPad? Only seems to want to work with purchased books from the ibook store. The problem is, once I create a document in Pages and turn it into an ePub to be opened in iBooks, I delete the document in Pages, because I don't need two copies taking up space on my iPad. Before Maverick, iTunes would backup everything in my iBook app on my iPad. If something ever happened to my iPad, all of my created ePubs would be lost and I would be screwed. I suppose I could keep everything on Pages and go to iCloud and download my documents to my Mac, but that is a lot of steps. I may have to do that if there is no other way, but I am hoping someone will have the answer for me. Pretty disappointed in iBooks app for Mac at this point.

iBooks only syncs purchased books. Others must be synced in iTunes.

    Hi,
While creating your Apple ID initially, have you setup a rescue email, if yes then when you enter a wrong answer to your security questions, it gives you link to send reset security info mail to your rescue email address. If you have not setup a rescue email, then you will have to contact Apple.
Please read the following line at the bottom of this article  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5312
If you decide not to provide a rescue email address, you can't reset your security questions and answers yourself later in the event you can't remember the answers to your questions. You'll need to contact iTunes Store support to have your questions and answers reset.
Please get the contact info as per your country from this link http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; this can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.
They wouldn't be security questions if they could be bypassed without Apple verifying your identity.

The Cloud by the song indicates that is is an iTunes purchase but it is not downloaded on the iPod. If you only want download iTunes purchases to show in the Music app go to Settings>itunes and pp Store and turn off Show aLL.

Don't know if there is an option make the download window stay up, but you can bring it back with Ctrl+J then right-click on the download to open the folder it was downloaded to.

Hello, I have a secret question and I want to get it back
    <Email Edited by Host>

First, remove your email address.  This is a public forum.  You are not talking to Apple directly.
How to reset your Apple ID security questions.
Go to appleid.apple.com, click on the blue button that says 'Manage Your Apple ID'.
Log in with your Apple ID and password. (If you have forgotten your Apple ID password, go to iforgot.apple.com first to reset your password with a password recovery email)
Go to the Password & Security section on the left side, and click on the link underneath the security questions that says 'Forgot your answers? Send reset security info email to [email]'.  This will generate an automated e-mail that will allow you to reset your security questions.
If that doesn't work, or  there is no rescue email link available, then click on 'Temporary Support PIN' that is in the bottom left side, and generate a 4-digit PIN for the Apple Account Security Advisor you will be contacting later.
    Next, go to https://getsupport.apple.com
(If you see a message that says 'There are no products registered to this Apple ID, simply click on 'See all products and services')
Choose 'More Products & Services', then 'Apple ID'.
    A new page will open.
Choose 'Other Apple ID Topics', then 'Forgotten Apple ID Security Questions'.
    Click the blue 'Continue' button.
Select the contact option that suits your needs best.

  • I want to get ibooks 3.1.3 for ios 6.1.6

i want to get ibooks 3.1.3 for ios 6.1.6

If 3.1.3 was the last version compatible with iOS 6 then maybe by:
If  you  have iOS 4.2.1 or later on the iPod and there was version compatible with that version, then you should be able to get a compatible version by:
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.
Otherwise you would have had to previously downloaded it and have it on your computer.

  • Hi - was looking to buy a macbook air soon but wanted to get it with lion software....anyone know when that is available and second question is what is best software for personal money management that works with lion.....use quicken now   thanks

Hi - was looking to buy a macbook air soon but wanted to get it with lion software....anyone know when that is available and second question is what is best software for personal money management that works with lion.....use quicken now   thanks

    quicken should work with lion.
Quicken Essentials will work with Lion.  Most people that have used Quicken for a while (i.e. Quicken 2007) have found that Quicken Essentials isn't much better than a basic spreadsheet.  It is a significant step down from previous versions and does not offer many of the features previously offered.  Right now, it seems like the two most common options are iBank and MoneyDance.
Frankly... this is a major opportunity for these companies.  The largest commercial distributor of this type of product has been Intuit (Quicken).  That makes it hard for any other company to get any of that market as so many people were already using Quicken and may have had years of data stored in it.  Now, with Quicken effectively out of the picture, it's a great chance for another company.  Just imagine if iPhones were suddenly off the market.  That would give other manufacturers a tremendous opportunity since they wouldn't have to fight an up hill battle against a market giant.

  • Student! Powerbook 15" or Ibook 14", questions?

I'm a student about to go to college, and recently have been won over by the mac OS from friend and visit to Apple Store.
I'm not sure whether an ibook 14" or powerbook 15" would be a better choice? and have a few questions that would affect my choice!
-Is the overheating problem really bad with the 15" powerbook? (i was set on getting this model but after having read about this problem, seems quite bad???)
-Is the screen resolution on the 14" ibook bad?
-Is the ibook 14" realtively fast at dvd encode, cd rip etc? (the processing speed made me look at powerbook more)
-Is the 128MB Video upgrade worth getting for powerbook?
-Is the widescreen worth getting over ibook's screen, when am big DVD fan? or do DVD's play well on ibook?
    Please help!

Is the overheating problem really bad with the 15" powerbook? (i was set on getting this model but after having read about this problem, seems quite bad???)
Don't know check the powerbook discussions
Is the screen resolution on the 14" ibook bad?
Not at all. The number of pixels is the same as on the 12" however so there is a little debate over the crispness of the image but I think it's great.
Is the 128MB Video upgrade worth getting for powerbook?
I would love to have 128mb and if you go with a powerbook and you use graphics heavily (games, photoshop, imovie, video etc.) definetly go for it although it may contribute to the heat factor.
Is the widescreen worth getting over ibook's screen, when am big DVD fan? or do DVD's play well on ibook?
DVD's play as well as the do on most pc's and with the proper connection to a tv you'll get a great picture. A Powerbook seems to be an expensive choice for playing DVD's. As an substitute for a tv/dvd player the ibook or powerbook (ie in a dorm room) will be just fine. Keep in mind that a widescreen dvd will still have bars above and below on a widescreen 15" powerbook.
For my money the ibook is the better deal. If you want you can use the money you save to buy a nice 21" widescreen lcd tv and a dvd player for your movie collection. Having said that if you are a big gamer or heavy graphics user the powerbook may be a better choice (a tower is even better for these types of operations). It really depends on what you plan to use it for.
    Good luck with your decision

  • Buying my first Mac and I'm deciding to get an iBook G4

Basically the title says it all. I've had the knowledge of how great Macs are for years but I've just now got a semi stable job to afford one. I am about to finish high school, so I need a laptop for college and I've already decided on the iBook G4 14 inch because it's perfect for my needs. However I had a few questions.
    1. Should I order my iBook now or wait a couple of months? Keep in mind I would really rather not wait and have to buy a Mactel iBook. Maybe my desktop in a few years when Intel builds something exclusively and specifically for the Mac but not now.
    2. Is virtual PC or a program like it still available to download to run Windows based programs?
    3. If I order the iBook online, is white the only availabe color?
    4. What is the .Mac subscription deal and is it worth it?

I didn't see the need for .Mac myself when I got my iBook last month. My mom bought an iBook shortly after me (copier!! ) and got a deal from the store she was in (I ordered online so no deal) and got a year of .Mac. She has yet to say it's changed her life or anything.
.Mac provides backup and some "goodies". The nice thing is it's easy to sync to and completely incorporated with the things it syncs with. As an example - you can backup your iCal I believe - so instead of taking your iCal stuff and backing it up in another form, you can just backup the exact iCal/Address Book info and never fear losing it or having to reinput it because it didn't save exactly as iCal. BUT - as a flip side to this - you can buy an external Firewire harddrive (look for sales you can get large ones pretty cheap) and make a clone. Then you can back up your ENTIRE internal drive - including all the programs, games, and documents you wind up setting up and using. Then, if your internal dies or something happens - you have an EXACT copy (as long as you keep it updated) on the external - which if you use it solely for storage should be stable and not have the same issues an internal might have from constant use after a number of years. Personally, this is what I plan to do as I'd rather have an exact duplicate of EVERYTHING then pay money to just back up a few important applications. The other things like webspace I already have and don't need another site or e-mail address, etc. But these things might be appealing to a user who isn't as computer saive and doesn't want to get into cloning - or has never had webspace and wants to make a site, etc. It's really up to you if you'd find it beneficial - but I for one feel the biggest benefit is backup, and for a set price I can get an external and backup MORE, so I can't see paying a yearly fee for that.
