Want to insert and retrive an image in DB2 database

Plz can anybody tell me ,hw to insert and retrive an image from DB2 database...using SERVLET.....
I am also facing a problem of hw to call a servlet in JSP page...as i m new to servlets....Plz i need help as soon as possible in detail
Thanx in advance.....

You're here in an English forum. You would do our (and therefore also yourself!) a lot of favour if you write your posts in correct English. Please also elaborate about the technical coding problem in detail, so that we can provide you more specific help. I only see some requirements and complains in your post.
Anyway, all what I can do for you at this moment is to suggest you to carefully read the Java EE tutorial to learn about JSP's and Servlets: http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc Once you're finished with that, then go through the JDBC tutorial to learn about the Java database communication API: http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jdbc

    I want to store and retrived images in the BFILE format using inter media.I found a article in the oracle site that Oracle interMedia image supports BFILEs.But this article is not demonstrating the use of BFILEs.Please help me to findout the solution.
    Thanks in advance.

    The advantage to using BFILE storage for your is that it's an easy way for Oracle
    Multimedia to access your images without importing them into the database.
    The disadvantages are that the images are read-only. If you want to scale an image or
    convert to a different format, you will need to create a destination image to hold the result. This
    will necessarily be a BLOB based image.
    Adding images is difficult to do from within an application program. Generally you would add new images to a file system that is accessible to the Oracle Database, then insert new rows in your table with appropriate BFILE pointers to the new images.
    BFILE images require separate backup from the database. Also there is not way to transactionally coordinate your BFILE data with your relational data.
    If you are using Oracle 11g, you can use the SecureFile option for BLOB storage. This is much faster then the previous BLOB storage (now called BasicFile) and much faster then BFILE also.
    That said, below is a code snippet that shows how to insert a BFILE based image, set it's properties, show it's properties and select the BFILE locator to access the content. You would need to use the DBMS_LOB package (in PL/SQL) to read the content. From other APIs, (e.g., Java) you would need to use the proper interfaces to access the BFILE.
    Note that you need change the USER, PASSWORD fields in the code. Also you should change the directory location and image name for your use.
    -- create a directory object indicating where the images are stored;
    create or replace directory imgdir as '/tmp';
    -- and grant permission to read to a user;
    grant read on directory imgdir to <USER>;
    conn <USER>/<PASSWORD>;
    -- create the images table
    create table images(id integer primary key, image ordsys.ordimage);

    dbms_output.put_line('image source is local');

  • Rescuing and/or Accessing Images From Aperture Database Without Aperture

    Early reviews of Aperture mentioned that Aperture created a closed, inaccessible database of all the images contained therein. This apparently means that these images cannot be accessed unless you have Aperture. Does anyone else feel nervous about this? What happens if the Aperture database is corrupted and won't open? As far as I can see, you would be toast because you couldn't reach your images. I would appreciate hearing from someone who can address these concerns. How stable is the Aperture database? Is there a chance it could be corrupted and refuse to open? And if so, how would you go about rebuilding it and/or rescuing your images? It also appears that the only way you can move images is by exporting them (which requires a working program).
    Any thoughts?

    No problem! Trying to answer these questions is a very helpful way to learn the app by looking at aspects of it I have not encountered yet.
    Yes, you can rebuild the Aperture database in a similar way to Entourage (and iPhoto). Holding down command-option after launching Aperture will make a Rebuild Library dialog appear. HOWEVER, don't do this unless you really want to see it work, because there seems to be no way to cancel the process. You can choose Rebuild Now or Don't Rebuild. If you choose Don't Rebuild, your Projects will nonetheless need to be recovered before use. The dialog mentions a Rebuild Later button, but there is no such button available.
    I have done this a few times both ways in the course of writing this, and there does not seem to be any negatives to rebuilding other than the time rebuilding takes, so if your projects aren't large it may be worth doing now to get comfortable with the process.

  • Inserting and retrieving data from a al32UTF8 database USING SQL Developer

    hi guys,
    Before i post my questions , i think its better for me to provide you guys with my understandings first so that it easier to understand where/if i have gone wrong..
    I am using Window XP and Oracle 10g
    Non-unicode client - a client program that need to use the OS code page for mapping of the retrieved unicode data from the database as well as the support of displaying/inserting the characters from that code page to the database.
    E.G sqlplusw.exe
    Therefore, when using a non-unicode client
    1) we have to set the OS code page (Control panel - regional and language setting - advance - language for non unicode program ) to the code page that contain the characters we are going to display/insert.
    2) we will also have to set the NLS_LANG characterset to the character set of the code page we are going to insert so that when we do a insert (for e.g in thai ) , oracle will know, and auto conversion to UNICODE can take place. This is also true when we retrieve unicode data from the database so that conversion to the correct character set can take place.
    INSERTING
    THAI ---> conversion ----> UNICODE
    RETRIEVING
    THAI <---- conversion <---- UNICODE
    I hope my basic understanding is correct up till this point.
    Unicode client - a client program that supports the displaying/inserting of unicode characters without the need of setting the OS code page (Control panel - regional and language setting - advance - language for non unicode program )
    E.G isqlplus http or SQL developer
    However,
    1) There is still a need to set the NLS_LANG so that correct conversion can take place between the client and the database.
    For e.g, when retrieving if we set the NLS_LANG character set to ZHS16GBK (chinese) and the data store in unicode in database is E.G (THAI) , then the conversion would be wrong .
    Since it is a unicode supported client, then the NLS_LANG character set should be set to UNICODE as well.
    Here come my questions
    *Important - please help if you are busy and have no other time to answer the rest of the questions
    *Q1) If i were to use a unicode client, what should i set my NLS_LANG character set to ?
    AMERICAN_AMERICA.UTF8 ?
    *Q2) Where do i set the NLS_LANG character set information in SQL Developer, i know there is a metalink for setting NLS_LANG using isqlplus but i cant seems to google any result for SQL developer.
    Q3) Is my basic understanding right until this point ? If not, please explain in a more generalised term as i am really not familiar with character sets, code page, unicode , glyphs and fonts..
    Q4) If a unicode client does not need to refer to the OS code page (set in regional and language) , is there a UNICODE code page for the client to refer to , or is there any Window API available ?
    Q5)
    There is still a need to set the NLS_LANG so that correct conversion can take place between the client and the >>database.
    For e.g, when retrieving if we set the NLS_LANG character set to ZHS16GBK (chinese) and the data store in >>unicode in database is E.G (THAI) , then the conversion would be wrong .am i right on this point for UNICODE supported client ?
    Thanks for spending time to read my questions and i hope to hear advices from you guys soon.
    Million thanks again for sharing.
    Best Regards,
    Noob but willing to learn

    The requirement to always set NLS_LANG is not true for JDBC, which ignores NLS_LANG altogether. Java programs fetch text data into String variables, which use Unicode UTF-16 by design. JDBC sets character set conversion so that data is converted between UTF-16 and the database or national character set.
    The requirement to set NLS_LANG is not generally true for OCI, either. The first call in an OCI problem can be OCIEnvNlsCreate(). This call has two parameters that allow the caller to define the character set to use for VARCHAR2/CHAR/LONG/CLOB/statement text and the character set to use for NVARCHAR2/NCHAR/NCLOB. Only if these character sets are specified as 0, NLS_LANG character set is used. Also, OCI programs can specify different character sets for each bind or define variable (i.e. input/output buffer). Note: OCI programs always use NLS_LANG to initialize the language and territory settings for the client program and the database session. Only the character set can be specified is OCIEnvNlsCreate().
    OCIEnvNlsCreate() can specify the client character set as UTF-16 (in platform endianess). This is not possible with NLS_LANG.
    Various interfaces building on OCI, such as Oracle ODBC and ODP .NET, explicitly initialize OCI with Unicode character set, and thus ignore the NLS_LANG character set as well.

    No you can’t do it as Vashmi already said so , you can upload the pictures in ALV, but  in your requirement I must say you should see the OSS note # 353949

    [1] Question: Is it possible to configure the profile e.g. for a                   person?
    Answer: It is possible to add or delete sub-profiles. You can do this in the customizing (transaction OOPF). There you can deactivate sub-profiles for an object type. Or add a new existing sub-profile.
    <b>[2] Question: How can I bring a picture of the person into the                   profile header?
    Answer:
    You should have an employees picture with format JPG or BMP...
    Start transaction OAAD to add the picture to SAP ArchiveLink. Press the Create-Button there. You have to type in PREL for the Business object and HRICOLFOTO for the Document type. Then press create. On the popup you must maintain the wished Personnel number for that the picture should be valid. Then press 'Continue'. Choose the picture and continue.
    For the screen header 00 (if it isn't changed) you should see the picture in the profile.</b>

  • ODBC, bulk inserts and dynamic SQL

    I am writing an application running on Windows NT 4 and using the oracle ODBC driver (8.01.05.00, that inserts many rows at a time (10000+) into an oracle 8i database.
    At present, I am using a stored procedure to insert each row into the database. The stored procedure uses dynamic SQL because I can only determine the table and field names at run time.
    Due to the large number of records, it tends to take a while to perform all the inserts. I have tried a number of solutions such as using batches of SQL statements (e.g. "INSERT...;INSERT...;INSERT..."), but the oracle ODBC driver only seems act on the first statement in the batch.
    I have also considered using the FOR ALL statement and SQL*Loader utility.
    My problem with FOR ALL is that I'm not sure it works on dynamic SQL statements and even if it did, how do I pass an array of statements to the stored procedure.
    I ruled out SQL* Loader because I could not find a way to invoke it it from an ODBC statement. Secondly, it requires the spawining of a new process.
    What I am really after is something similar the the SQL Server (forgive me!) BULK INSERT statement where you can simply create an input file with all the records you want to insert, and pass it along in an ODBC statement such as "BULK INSERT <filename>".
    Any ideas??

    Hi,
    I faced this same situation years ago (Oracle 7.2!) and had the following alternatives.
    1) Use a 3rd party tool such as Sagent or CA Info pump (very pricey $$$)
    2) Use VisualC++ and OCI to hook into the array insert routines (there are examples of these in the Oracle Home).
    3) Use SQL*Loader (the best performance, but no real control of what's happening).
    I ended up using (2) and used the Rouge Wave dbtools.h++ library to speed up the development.
    These days, I would also suggest you take a look at Perl on NT (www.activestate.com) and the DBlib modules at www.perl.org. I believe they will also do bulk loading.
    Your problem is that your program is using Oracle ODBC, when you should be using Oracle OCI for best performance.

  • Saving images on my database and calling the open file dialog

    i want to be able to save image in my database or alternatively save them on a file system. meanwhile i want to allow them choose the name of the image in the folder by using the win_api_dialog.open_file. My platform is win2000. do i need to add any other thing to this like a particular library or just anything. please i need this help urgently.database os is unix ware.

    Hello,
    You can do this without using library. Suppose you have a table with BLOB data type column and one form which has image box to display and store image boxes.
    Now by using READ_IMAGE_FILE read picture file. To write picture to file use WRITE_IMAGE_FILE. and
    if you want to give users open file dialogue box then use GET_FILE_NAME builtin.
    All the best.
