Warehouse Builder Installation Problems

Hi Forum,
I want to install OWB on a Windows2000 machine, having an Oracle 9i Database.
I read the installation guide, but I didn't understand the
differences between the users I must create during the installation (Repository User, Runtime Users, ...) and which I need to use when I Login.
Can You help me?

Starting from OWB 9.0.4 you will have to create a minimum of 3 users (possibly 4):
1 - Design repository user is the one you will log in when starting OWB (to enter the design client application). This schema will contain your design metadata. This user is created by running the runtime assistant.
2 - Runtime repository user schema is the one that contains the runtime metadata (*not* data) regarding what objects were deployed, when and what was the deployment outcome, what mappings and processes were run, when and what was the outcome. It is a runtime reporting and management system. This schema is created by running the runtime assistant.
3 - Runtime schema (the target, your data warehouse or data mart). This is where your data and data loading procedures will be stored and run. This schema is also created by running the runtime assistant (after the runtime repository is created, the assistant will ask whether you want to install this schema). A runtime schema is always affiliated with a runtime repository schema (2).
4 - Optionally, you might want to create (from the runtime assistant) the runtime access user. Since the Runtime repository user has powerful privileges, you might want to access the runtime repository by using the runtime access user rather than using the runtime repository user (2) directly. This user is a security precaution.

Hello,
You might build mapping where you manually configure some target/source object to have database schema and/or database link. In this case OWB warns you that mapping could fail due to lack of access privileges to that object.
But if you explicitly grant appropriate privilege to mappings owner thats OK. Mapping will work fine but your will still get this warning during validation/deployment.

Warehouse Builder Installation

Hello,
I would like to know whether if I install Oracle Database 10 Rel 2, select database option as Warehouse, do I need to install warehouse builder 10g again?
Or I need to seperately install wb again?
Kindly someone provide some insight.

Both 11gR1 and 11gR2 also work on 10g databases, 11gR2 is currently only production on Linux.
If you go the OWB 10gR2 route then its worth getting the latest patch set from Metalink and applying to the install prior to installing the repository (in my opinion).

Oracle Warehouse Builder 10.1.0.4 on Windows 2008 - 64 bits

Hi Gurus.
I'm currently working with a customer who wants to migrate all their database-servers to Windows 2008 on 64-bits processors. They're using Oracle Database Enterprise Edition 10g Release 2 (10.2.0.4) and Oracle Warehouse Builder (10.1.0.4). The OWB-clients will still run on Windows XP. I've used the "Certify"-funcionality on Metalink, but it doesn't really answer my questions. (It does* ansver some of my questions, but it also raises a few new ones....)
My main question is: Can you run serverside OWB 10.1.0.4 on Enterprise Edition 10.2.0.4 for Windows 2008 64-bits?

Oracle Warehouse Builder version 10.1.x was desupported on 16-JUL-2007.
The desupport notice is available on Metalink (Note 376384.1).
The Warehouse Builder installation as part of the 11.1.0.7 installation should be certified, but I cannot find specifics.

Is workflow included in 10.2.0.4 warehouse builder?

Is oracle workflow included within 10.2.0.4?
From otherhelpful replies, I have learnt we need to install oracle 10.2.0.1 then the 10.2.04 patch to bring us up to 10.2.0.4.
We need to run process flows so I understand we need oracle workflow.
Is this included within the warehouse builder installs (both client and server or is it just a the server-side we would need to worry about?) or do we need separate installs for these?
Does anyone know which versions of worklfow we would need for 10.2.0.4 in the event that separate installs are needed?

Thanks for the info.
Just finished installing 10.2.0.1 on Windows client and the 10.2.0.4 patch on top of that.
Can I assume I can ignore the bit in the readme below where it talks about the upgrade utility since we have yet to create our repository.

5. Navigate to the appropriate execution directory under the Warehouse Builder home directory and run the upgrade utility. The specific file you should execute depends on the release of the Oracle Database you are running.
For Windows, the .bat files are located under the win32 directory. If your Oracle Database is either 9iR2 or10gR1 run the following:
owb home/owb/bin/win32/DTupg102to10204_10gR1.bat
Or, if your Oracle Database is 10gR2 run the following:
owb home/owb/bin/win32/DTupg102to10204_10gR2.bat
For UNIX, the .sh files are located under the unix directory. If your Oracle Database is either 9iR2 or 10gR1, run the following:
owb home/owb/bin/unix/DTupg102to10204_10gR1.sh
Or, if your Oracle Database is 10gR2 run the following:
owb home/owb/bin/unix/DTupg102to10204_10gR2.sh
6. Enter the database connection information, the Warehouse Builder repository owner credentials, and the SYS user credentials.
The upgrade utility proceeds to upgrade the Warehouse Builder objects associated with the selected repository owner.
The upgrade utility logs any errors in the file owb home/owb/reposasst/upg/LOG.TXT. Note that you can ignore any creation errors reported due to objects already existing.

Problem with Warehouse Builder Repository Installation

I try to install OWB 11.2 on a newly installed 11.2 database on a German Windows 7 x64 machine. When I start the Repository Assistant I get at a progress of 40% and the line "Element SeedData.XML 99% verarbeiten" the Message: Die Eigentümerinstallation des Warehouse Builder-Workspace wurde bei Benutzer OWBSYS nicht erfolgreich ausgeführt. Before I run the Repository Assistant I started the scripts:

but the result is the same.
Where is my mistake?

I found my mistake. The tablespace was too small :-(
It had only 20MB instead of 200MB that I wanted to give it. Somehow strange. After I increased the tablespace to 200MB I got the following message in the repository assistant.
INS0005: Tablespace TS_OWB_REPO hat nicht genügend freien Speicherplatz zum Installieren der owb_repository_owner??-Objekte. Es stehen 0 Byte freier Speicherplatz zur Verfügung. Es sind 262144 Byte erforderlich. Erhöhen Sie die Größe des Tablespace, oder wählen Sie einen anderen Tablespace aus.
even if the tablespace was totally empty. After I set the tablespace to "autoextend on" the repository builder finished without errors even if it used only about 150MB of the 200MB.

Oracle Warehouse Builder Problem

Hello All,
I have just installed oracle warehouse builder 10g on windows 2000 system.
My database is oracle 10gR2
While connecting Oracle Repository Assistant, when I provide sys user/password and other credentials i got following error:
INS0003: OWB Repository Installation cannot continue without DBA privileges. Connect as DBA and use option Create a New Warehouse Builder Repository to continue the process.
Sys user is already having sysdba rights. I have tried to login with another dba account but still same error.
Any help??

There ware problem with compatibility of OWB10.1 with Oracle database release 10.2...
I have installed oracle 10gR1 and now it is working.

Problem in import of MetaData file in Oracle Warehouse Builder 9.2

My Problem is Related to Oracle WareHouse Builder.My system's configuration is following :-
Machine : P4
Operating System :Windows XP
ORacle : Version 9.2
Oracle WareHouse Builder 9.2
Ram :1GB
SGA Size :Approximately 650M
I have 2 MetaData files which I have to import into OWB.
First file's size is 9M.It got imported properly in 4 minutes without any error.
2nd File's Size is 30M.when
I start importing this MEtaData file.It goes upto 35% in Progress Bar.But after that it does not show any improvement.
I have left the machine running with this option upto 24 hours.
But nothing happened .It still shows only 35%.
I have checked log file/Trace file/Alert log files ,but there is no error in these files.
If any body have any solution about it,Please reply ASAP.I am stucked in this problem from last 7-8 days.

Thanks for your reply Igor.
As posted the OWB 10.1.0 software is running against a 9.2.0.8.0. database, so OWB still uses DBMS_JOB instead of DBMS_SCHEDULER in this database. In addition I already tested scheduling a simple job to run an OS command as suggested in note 365539.1 , and job scheduling is working fine.
There are no invalid objects in this database.

Problem in DB Link creation ( Oracle warehouse builder 3i )

I am facing a problem in DB Link creation.
Backend: Oracle 8i Server on my machine
DW Software: Oracle warehouse builder 3i ( client , repository asistant.....)
Operating system: Windows NT 4 SERVICE PACK 6
I wants to use the scott database( default database given by oracle ) as my input source.
How can I create the DB LINK ( for scott database) ?
How can I create the DB LINK ( for any other database) ?

I solved the problem.
Procedure I followed :
UNINSTALL ORACLE WRAEHOUSE BUILDER SOFTAWARE.
'GLOBAL_NAMES = FALSE' in init.ora file.
RESTARTED MY MACHINE.
INSTALL THE ORACLE WRAEHOUSE BUILDER SOFTAWARE.

Problem with Starting with Oracle Warehouse Builder 11g Release 1

I want to do the training modules for owb. I installed Oracle Databes 11g2 and was attempting to load all the demo files from the learning module Starting with Oracle Warehouse Builder 11g Release 1 (http://st-curriculum.oracle.com/obe/db/11g/r1/owb/owb11g_update_getting_started_intro/lesson1/less1_start.htm)
I get an error during the running of the tcl scripts in omb plus. Everything works until the last files in which an object cannot be found. I get the following error:
OMB02923: Attribute TIMES_CAL_MONTH_CODE of group SALES of operator SALES_OUT does not exist.
The only reference i can find to this is in the load_sales.tcl file from the zip-file and i have no idea what is going wrong. As a result 5 mappings are missing in the end result (all LOAD_.. mappings)
Can anyone assist me with this problem and provide a solution?

Additional information after looking at the tcl files and the data in OWB that was loaded.
The section where the error occurs connects two parts of a mapping, the OUTGRP1 and the SALES_OUT. THe SALES_OUT is based upon the cube Sales. This cube contains all the data that is being connected except for the 'TIMES_CAL_MONTH_CODE'. I have no idea based upon the code of the creation of the cube where they take the data from. None of the connected attributes is named specifically. The cube also contains the several groups, one of these is time. If you open the details of the group the list of input attributes lists the needed attribute but it is not listed seperatly like all the others that are connected for the mapping. Does anybody have an idea how to solve the problem based on this extra information and the code listed below.

Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g installation issues

Hi All,
I have downloaded the OWB 10g, from the site. I have Oracle 10g (Release 2) database server installed on the machine.
When I start installing Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g, it just does the client installation and I am not able to find out were should I search for the OWB server installation?
Even I have checked by installing the same but I just have Repository Assistant , Design Center and Repository Browser available on the machine. I could not find the Runtime Assistant & Control Center to work on?
Can somebody help me out with these issues?

How do I download and install Warehouse Builder Client versus Warehouse Builder Server?
Warehouse Builder is a single install image that contains both Client and Server components, which are installed at the same time as part of the installation process. If the deployment target database is on the same machine as Warehouse Builder Client UI, there is one single installation process. If the deployment target database is on a separate machine, the install process has to be run twice, repeating the exact same install process on the client machine (to run the Warehouse Builder Design client) and the deployment target machine. Normally when installing the repository, either locally or remotely, the OWB software needs to be already present on the machine. However, it is possible to skip or defer the step of installing on the target deployment machine. This is referred to as a “Remote Target Configuration”. More information on this can be found in the Installation Guide, Chapter 2, “Remote Target”.

The screenshots are about Oracle Enterise Manager, not OWB.
The message below "Database Instance: orcl" implies that the database hasn't properly started since OEM can't connect to the database instance.
I suggest you take this up with the database forum.

Problems launching Repository Assistant from Oracle Warehouse Builder

I have installed the Oracle Warehouse Builder 10g Release 2 although, when i execute the file launch.exe installed at OWB_ORACLE_HOME/bin/, it not work
Somebody know something about this problem?
Postdata: I have Kaspersky antivirus installed as well.

What process are you doing in OWB to get this error?

I'm trying to register a WorkFlow location in the Warehouse Builder, but it's appearing an ERROR saying that don't exist a WorkFlow Repository although the repository tables are already installed...

Problem getting DB Link to work with Warehouse Builder ...

Warehouse builder has a new Module wizard that attempts
to create a database link to a source Metadata Data Dictionary.
When I enter the DB link parameters after selecting 'New DB
Link'
I get a successful confirmation however when I try to click
on the 'Next' button on the wizard window I get 'Connection
Validation failed - the database link is incorrect'.
How is it that I success in creating a link then it fails
when I try to move to the next step in the wizard?
I tried many different ways of creating db links that I have
tested successfully but don't work within Warehouse Builder.
My environment is simple, both my Oracle 8i and Warehouse
Builder
are on the same machine and installed in the same home
directory.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
