Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session... Error wheneven I log-in

I get the following message whenever I try to log-in: Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
When I looked it up, a person answered to manually run systemd-machine-id-setup, but I don't know how to do that.
Any suggestions?

I'm not familiar with systemd-machine-id-setup, but I imagine it would just be for systemd.  Are you using systemd? (If you don't know then you are almost certainly not).
Is dbus in your DAEMONS array?

  • [Solved] [KDE] Cannot open ConsoleKit session error message on startup

    Hi all,
I've just installed updates on my system, and I now get a popup message along the lines of "Cannot create Consolekit session. Process /usr/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper received signal 5"
The corresponding message in ~/.xsession-errors is:
"Cannot create unix session: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildSignaled: Process /usr/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper received signal 5"
Any idea what might be going on? I have checked, dbus seems to be running. Other than that, the desktop seems to work normally.

  • Cannot open ConsoleKit session

    Hi,
recently I asked already on installing on RAID, now I finally managed to install (without preset Raid but LVM), and I thought the trouble is more or less over, but I thought wrong. I face a bunch of major problems after I installed base, xserver and kdebase; maybe they are related, but I'm not sure. (If not, I can open separate topics)
When I log into KDE I get
Warning: Cannot open ConsoleKit session: Unable to open session: Failed to connect to socket /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket: No such file or directory
What does it mean? Am I missing a package?
By installing the vaio power daemon I avoid a power management error, but I still have no battery reading, can't suspend-to-RAM or -HD. What can I check for?
And last but not least: Automounting doesn't work at all. fdisk shows my disk and I can manually mount it, but I prefer the automount way. This seems to be a problem from the begining. While I boot, external devices get displayed with
[sdc] No Caching mode page present
[sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
I guess this could be connected to the automount, maybe even the systembus. My laptop at home (completely different brand) has more or less the same setup with encryption and external key file, and it finds the flash drive without a problem. udisk is installed, and I can't recall that I ever had to do more to setup a system.
In Ubuntu live CD all this seems to work without a problem (even RAID worked), and even if I get alot of advantages, I would still like to go with arch for variouse reasons. Alone the AUR is worth it!
Btw, the particular laptop is a Sony Vaio Z2. You find a bunch of 'How to install [insert Linux distro] on Z2' on the internet, but even the Arch-HowTo-Version doesn't state any of my problems.
I hope someone can help me.
    Thanks!
    /André

    Hi,
stupid me. Of course dbus wasn't running. This simple thing fixed nearly everything. Even if Suspend now works and waking up not, but this is a minor problem where I should find a solution somewhere else (otherwise I can repost).
But it still doesn't recognise USB devices at boot, even that I set the usb and usbinputs hook. The error
[sdc] No Caching mode page present
[sdc] Assuming drive cache: write through
    still appears!
    /André

  • (gnome-session:4336): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display.

I'm having troble getting gnome running on my system.
    When I'm running gnome-session Im getting (gnome-session:4336): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display.
The exact same setup will allow me to run xfce4 without any problem.
I did manage to start gnome once with gdm, but then nothing but rightclick on the mouse and the desktop icons would work, and after that one time both gdm and gnome wont work.
I just did a base install of arch 0.7, xorg, gnome, nvidia and sound drivers.
Also, if I put exec gnome-session in my .xinitrc file I get a Fatal server error: Requested entity already in use.

the .xinitrc it is executed by the X window system after the X Server is started
if you run gnome-session from a console shell and there is no X server started, it cannot open the display...
the X server is normally started during "startx" or "xinit"

  • Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:

    Hi Folks,
Has anyone every came across this problem when trying to run firefox remotely? I use putty to connect to my solaris box but cannot display back firefox as the following error occurs :
    Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
When I run echo $DISPLAY nothing is returned. I have also tried setting the display using the following command :
    export DISPLAY=0:0
    Nothing seems to work.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Jacob,
You are seeing the warning because your machine does not have an Xserver running which is needed to convert to postscript using the command line (with Reader 7.0.9).
If running an Xserver is not an option for you, you could upgrade to the latest version of Reader (8.1.2) in which this issue has been fixed.
    Sincerely,
    Neha

Have you updated your iTunes on your computer? WIth a device running iOS7, you need iTunes 11.
When you removed iTUnes, did you see something named 'apple mobile device support' or something like it? (The exact name varies from operating system to operating system). If you see that, uninstall it too. That's the drivers for your iPhone and they should self-install when you plug your device in.
If all that is fine, have you checked your cable and USB port? a malfunctioning cable can keep you from syncing.

  • Cannot open 2 sessions on same computer

    Hello,
It's me again (I already posted some questions about Mavericks).
Now I discovered that I cannot open 2 sessions on my MacBook Pro. Mavericks does not recognize the password of a second user at login.
So I will have to buy another computer for my wife. Very clever from Apple !
    Eric

Mavericks recognizes multiple user accounts on the same computer just as did Lion and Mountain Lion.  You can switch between user logins without either user logging out.  But, the users have to be setup on the computer.  My wife and I share a MacBook Pro and it works this way just fine (in fact we just had a reason to use the computer this way last night).  Even tasks that don't need the speaker or mic continue processing in the background for the non-active user.

  • Possible cause of "Cannot open Excel file error"?

    Hi!
Here's my problem: one of our LabView applications creates .xls Excel
files.  However some of these files are too big to be opened into
Excel, so we need to open these files in DIAdem to analyse the data (in
fact, even the smaller ones often need to be analysed in DIAdem).
The problem is that DIAdem seems totally unable to open Excel files,
small or big, created by our LabView application or not.  The
error message appearing when we try to import Excel files is "Cannot
open Excel file"... which doesn't give any clue about the cause of the
error.   My question is: what may cause this error to
occur?  I searched both the help and the website without finding
    useful information.
The computer is running on WinXP with OfficeXP installed, and we are
using DIAdem 9.0.  If additionnal information is required, just
    let me know.
    Thanks in advance!
    Maxime B.

    Hi!
I did some experiments this morning.  First of all, the file I had
created using Excel that I tried to open yesterday just opened.  I
don't know why it didn't work yesterday, but, for now, it's
working.  Now, for my LabView-created files, I still get the same
error message.  However, if I open the files in Excel and try to
save, a warning message appears, saying that the file may not be
compatible with the text (separator:tabulation) format.  If I
ignore the warning and save the file as a .xls file, I can now import
it into DIAdem.  The problem is probably that my LabView-created
files are not "real" .xls files.  Now, this is a problem, because
I can't open some of the bigger files in Excel without having the data
truncated (Excel has a maximum of 65536 rows); last year, using DIAdem
8.X (I don't remember the exact version we had), I could open those
files without any trouble... Is there any way to get those files to be
opened with DIAdem 9.0?  I attached one of those files if it may help.
    Thanks!
    Maxime B.

  • Cannot open Firefox. Error Platform version 1.9.2.15 is not compatible with minVersion =1.9.2.16 maxVersion =1.9.2.16

Received an update yesterday that turned off Norton before installing itself. Now cannot open Firefox. Get error message.

This issue can happen if the updater wasn't able to update all the files.
    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Firefox 4.0: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • "Extraction Failed: Cannot Open Output File" error message when installing new drivers

Hello, I'm trying to install new drivers for my HP Photosmart C4385 Printer.  I downloaded the full feature drivers for Windows XP 32-bit, and when I start to install (extract), I get the error message:
    Extraction Failed
    Cannot Open Output File
And the process closes.  It happens at about 85% extraction every time.
Any idea why?  I called HP but since it is out of warranty they wanted money, which I think as absolutely ridiculous - won't even give me basic support??  Poor, poor customer service.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
If you haven't still got the  Full Feature software installer, download it from the link below and save it to your Desktop.  If you already have it, place it on your Desktop.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software10/COL20274/mp-53147-4/100_228_PS_AIO_02_Full_USW_enu_NB.exe
Make sure the Printer is disconnected from your PC.
Download and install 7-ZIP.  Once installed, right click on the software installer for your printer, select 7-Zip and choose extract files, then click Ok.
Open the newly extracted folder and double click the setup application to start the installation ( the setup application will probably have the same icon as the original software installer you downloaded ).  Connect the printer to your PC when the software asks.
    Hope this helps.
    Best wishes,
    DP-K
