Warning : Missing Statistics

Hi,
I was doing some tests with AdventureWorks2012 and using 'big' tables from Adam Machanic (http://sqlblog.com/blogs/adam_machanic/archive/2011/10/17/thinking-big-adventure.aspx) and I found something that I didn't understood.
When I did this query below :
select * from bigTransactionHistory
where transactionDate between '2008/06/01' and '2008/06/30' and productid=1370
I received a warning in the plan about missing statistics in transactionDate field. But the bigTransactionHistory table has a composite index over productid and transactionDate. As you can see, productid field is on the query, so why query optimizer is complaining
about missing statistics for the 2nd field ?
What would be the usage for this statistic ? So, when we use composite index we still need individual statistic in each field ?
Thank you in advance,

Hello,
Because statistics related to indexes with multiple columns only have histograms for the first column and not for the other
columns. The other columns have density information only.
Please make sure that AUTO_CREATE_STATISTICS and AUTO_UPDATE_STATISTICS are on, and you won’t have these warnings anymore.
Hope this helps.

  • How to handle the MISSING STATISTICS:Table or Index has no optimizer stats

    Dear All,
    For some of our recently created Ztables, we have been receiving an error message of MISSING STATISTICS in the system saying that Table or Index has no optimizer statistics. To solve the problem, when I go for creating an index with the key fields of the table, I receive a message that these fields are already there in the index 0 (primary index).
    Pls advice how to solve this issue.
    Regards,
    Alok.

    Hi friend,
    Please delete all primary and secondary indexes and redo creation of index. Now u will surely be able to create it.

  • Unavailable Fonts Preview-Information-Warning Missing SC5

    Chris Cox suggested I start a new on this subject when I mentioned it in another thread.
    CS5 12.0.1 — 10.6.4:
    I open a layered .psd with a text layer (font not available on system).
    Ps opens and gives missing font error.
    Ps displays a substituted font.
    Type layer shows no warning of missing font.
    Type layer does not clue me what the missing font is — I can only guess:(
    +++++++
    CS4 11.0.2 — 10.4.11
    I open the layered .psd with a text layer (font not available on System).
    It opens and gives missing font error.
    Ps displays missing font properly.
    Ps Type layer displays warning.
    When I click in the text to edit — it calls out the missing font by name and warns me the font is missing and will be substituted.
    +++++++
    Am I the only one with this problem?

    - Please turn off Automatic font activation & Alert me if system fonts change in Preference from Font Book first.
    Hi, I am not sure what you mean, if you mean turn FAP Auto font activation off, I removed the FAP plugins from Ps so I believe that would turn Auto activation off?
    I don't recall ever opening Font Book and I don't understand what change in preference from FB you are talking about.
    Your missing font text layer shows yellow icon, correct?
    If you double click the yellow icon, missing font name should show.
    With the FAP plugins installed in Ps 12.0.1 (10.6.4), I don't have the yellow missing font warning icon in my font layer (Ps just loads a substituted font and there is no way for me to call it up) — but I know exactly what you are referring to, the yellow icon is just not there with FAP plugins loaded.
    If this is a bug as I suspect the lag I discovered, you should be able to reproduce it with ease on YOUR machine:
    10.6.4
    Install FAP 4.120
    Install Ps CS5 Plugins pictured below (these aren't available yet on fFAP website)
    open a file
    create a text layer, save file as .psd
    remove font from system
    reopen .psd
    okay missing font warning
    original font displays for a moment then is replaced
    layers pallet> font layer does not show yellow icon or recover missing font info
    quit Ps
    remove FAP plugins from Ps
    reopen .psd
    you have yellow icon warning back with missing font info...

  • I bought iWork via download. Message warning missing files

    ok so I own a MacBook Air. I got a trial version of iWork 08 on a DVD. Once the trial expired, I decided to buy it via download. It works fine on my iMac however, getting it on MacBook Air was hard. The only way I could get the files was by sharing a screen and basically dragging the iWork folder onto my MacBook Air's hard drive. The applications seem to be working, however, whenever I open the apps it gives me the warning files missing. Ignore and continue or something. I think this is why I am having trouble migrating docs from iWork to Office for Mac 08. Any suggestions?

    knarfy,
    We keep seeing this problem in this discussion group when someone tries to install iWork on a computer on which it's already installed. Not this matters now, but here's what you should have done: since the trial version is identical to the purchased version (except for the time limit), you should have just used the new serial number and plugged it into the the trial version. That's all you needed to do in order to get a legit, fully functioning copy.
    What I would do now is to do a Spotlight search in the words iWork, Pages, Numbers and Keynote, then delete everything I find (making sure to move my personal files out of those folders first). Then I would do a fresh install. Since you're using a MacBook Air, I would download the trial version, then plug in to that the new serial number from the purchased version.
    Hope this helps.

  • Checkstyle warning: Missing package-info.java file

    Hi,
    I'm getting a checkstyle warning for a simple class which looks like:
    package tools.interprocess;
    * Class for testing RMI.
    * @author spinth
    public final class RMITest {
         * Private constructor.
        private RMITest() {
         * Main method.
         * @param args User arguments
        public static void main(final String[] args) {
    }The warning message says: Missing package-info.java file
    I really couldn't figure out what this means and how I can fix it. Do I have to add something to the source tree?
    I'm using Eclipse for development and Eclipse-cs as my checkstyle plug-in.
    Thanks.
    Edited by: spinth on Apr 15, 2010 12:37 PM

    If you don't want that warning then simply turn it of.
    A package-info.java file is there mostly to attach JavaDoc to the package itself.
    If you don't need/want that, then the checkstyle warning is useless. Checkstyle (and similar tools) are meant to be tweaked to your needs and not used blindly.

  • Document Warning Missing File

    I have iWork '09. When I open a saved pages doc many photos that were copied and pasted are now missing. Also in Numbers I tried to use a template that came with numbers and parts of that template where missing too. How do I fix this and can I get my photos back?

    It sounds as something in the iWork applications is missing. If you create a new user account and try Pages and Numbers in that account and it still is missing images in templates it is a application problem. If the applications works fine in the new account it is probably a corrupt preference file.
    The preference file is named com.apple.iwork.pages.plist or ...numbers.plist . You find them in Users/ your name / Library/Preferences folder. Drag them to the Trash/Bin start Pages and see if it works now
    If the applications still have problem in the new account uninstall iWork. You cannot completely delete iWork by moving the iWork '09 folder to the Trash. Instead, use Yvan Koenig's script:
              •          Go to http://www.box.com/s/00qnssoyeq2xvc22ra4k
              •          Choose public_YK > for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items
              •          Click on uninstall iWork '09.zip, decompress it, open it in AppleScript Editor and click the Run button
    Restart the computer and install iWork again and do the updates to at least version 9.0.

  • Font Warning - Missing font - Arial Bold

    Hello All,
    I have searched around for this one, and not found the answer.  I have just rebuit my PC (windows XP) and
    re-installed all software.  I am now getting the missing font dialog for one of my fla files.
    I check "Edit/Font Mapping" and it says that Arial Bold is missing.  When I check the fonts in my "C:\WINDOWS\Fonts"
    directory Arial Bold is there as a true type font (ARIALBD.TTF).
    The only font that show up in my Flash (and Photoshop too) is "Arial."  Any hints on how to fix this?
    I will guess it is some sort of install error or system error?  I did not have this issue before the rebuild.
    Thanks,
    eholz1

  • Save after checkin -- warning missing for .dita files?

    I've been preparing guidelines for our writers to work with the FM SharePoint Connector. I've cautioned them to save before checking in.
    Still, it is possible to check in, continue editing, and then try to save.  While exploring the recovery procedures for this, I noticed that unstructured .fm files and .dita files behave differently. With an .fm file, I got a (not quite accurate) warning that "the file has changed on the disk since you last opened or saved it." But with a .dita file, I got no warning at all.
    Has anyone else noticed this?  It looks like it might be a bug.

  • Obtain cache hit and miss statistics

    Hi,
         I have a cache developed in-house, which implements the HashMap functionalities of get(key), put(key, object) etc, and in addition, maintains hit and miss counts. I'm trying to replace this cache with Coherence because eventually I wish to migrate to a distributed cache. It's essential, therefore, that I fit Coherence into my application in such a way that though I would currently be using Coherence's local cache functionality, later I should be able to use the distributed cache functionality without any changes to my code. Hence, I'm using CacheFactory to obtain a cache whose config I define in the coherence-config.xml file. Here's my problem: I notice that CacheFactory.getCache() returns an object that implements NamedCache. This interface does NOT support the maintenance of cache hit and miss counts. I need this functionality! How do I work around this?
         Thanks,
         Lakshmi.

    Hi Lakshmi,
         It would look something like this:
         // This example uses the default
             // coherence-cache-config.xml which maps all cache
             // names starting with 'local-' to a 'local-scheme'
             String sCacheName = "local-test";
             NamedCache cache = CacheFactory.getCache(sCacheName);
             CacheService service = cache.getCacheService();
             Map mapLocal = ((DefaultConfigurableCacheFactory.Manager) service.getBackingMapManager()).getBackingMap(sCacheName);
             if (mapLocal instanceof LocalCache)
                  LocalCache cacheLocal = (LocalCache) mapLocal;
                  out("Misses: " + cacheLocal.getCacheMisses());
                  }Hope this helps.

  • New table without statistics returns invalid number of rows

    Hi,
    I've been searching for a while now for an explanation for the following "problem"
    We have an Oracle 11.1.0.7 database on AIX5.3
    In this database we have two tables, called KRT_PRODUCTS_INFO and KRT_STRUCTURES_INFO ( the table name don't really matter ).
    The scenario is as following:
    If we recreate these tables like:
    CREATE TABLE KRT_PRODUCT_INFO_BUP AS SELECT * FROM KRT_PRODUCT_INFO;
    DROP TABLE KRT_PRODUCT_INFO CASCADE CONSTRAINTS;
    CREATE TABLE KRT_PRODUCT_INFO (...) TABLESPACE PIM_DATA NOLOGGING NOCOMPRESS NOCACHE NOPARALLEL MONITORING;
    CREATE INDEX KRT_PRODUCT_INFO_X1 ON KRT_PRODUCT_INFO (PRODUCT_NUMBER) NOLOGGING TABLESPACE PIM_DATA NOPARALLEL;
    CREATE INDEX KRT_PRODUCT_INFO_X2 ON KRT_PRODUCT_INFO (PIM_ARTICLEREVISIONID) NOLOGGING TABLESPACE PIM_DATA NOPARALLEL;
    INSERT INTO KRT_PRODUCT_INFO (SELECT * FROM KRT_PRODUCT_INFO_BUP);
    COMMIT;
    CREATE TABLE KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO_BUP AS SELECT * FROM KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO;
    DROP TABLE KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO CASCADE CONSTRAINTS;
    CREATE TABLE KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO (...) TABLESPACE PIM_DATA NOLOGGING NOCOMPRESS NOCACHE NOPARALLEL MONITORING;
    CREATE INDEX KRT_STRUCTURES_X1 ON KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO (STRUCTURE_GRP_REV_ID) NOLOGGING TABLESPACE PIM_DATA NOPARALLEL;
    CREATE INDEX KRT_STRUCTURES_X2 ON KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO (STRUCTURE_GRP_IDENTIFIER) NOLOGGING TABLESPACE PIM_DATA NOPARALLEL;
    CREATE INDEX KRT_STRUCTURES_X3 ON KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO (STRUCTURE_GRP_ID) NOLOGGING TABLESPACE PIM_DATA NOPARALLEL;
    INSERT INTO KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO (SELECT * FROM KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO_BUP);
    COMMIT;
    and we run a complex query with these two tables, this query only return a couple of rows ( exactly 24 !!! )
    If we however generate statistics on these tables after creation, the correct number of rows is returned, being 1.167.991 rows
    The statistics are gathered using:
    BEGIN
    SYS.DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS (
    OwnName => 'PIM_KRG'
    ,TabName => 'KRT_PRODUCT_INFO'
    ,Estimate_Percent => NULL
    ,Method_Opt => 'FOR ALL COLUMNS SIZE REPEAT '
    ,Degree => NULL
    ,Cascade => TRUE
    ,No_Invalidate => FALSE);
    END;
    BEGIN
    SYS.DBMS_STATS.GATHER_TABLE_STATS (
    OwnName => 'PIM_KRG'
    ,TabName => 'KRT_STRUCTURE_INFO'
    ,Estimate_Percent => NULL
    ,Method_Opt => 'FOR ALL COLUMNS SIZE REPEAT '
    ,Degree => NULL
    ,Cascade => TRUE
    ,No_Invalidate => FALSE);
    END;
    /I can imagine that the 'plan' for the query used is wrong because of missing statistics.
    But I can't imagine that it would actually return an incorrect number of rows.
    I tested this behaviour in Toad and sqlplus ( first thought it was Toad ), and both behave the same.
    Another fact is, that the "problem" is NOT reproducable on our TEST environment, that runs on Oracle 11.1.0.7 on Windows2008
    Just to be sure this is the "complex" query used. It is not developed by me, and I think it looks somewhat strange but that shouldn't matter:
    SELECT sr."Identifier" STRUCTURE_IDENTIFIER
    , ar_i."Identifier" ITEM_NUMBER
    , SUM (REPLACE (NVL (s.HIDE_LE10, 0) + NVL (p.HIDE_LE10, 0), 2, 1))

    These two tables are in the PIM_KRG schema while the other tables in the query are distributed across two other schemas "KRAMP_HPM_MAIN" and "KRAMP_HPM_MASTER" ?
    Do you happen to have the same table names occurring in multiple schemas - the query is then referencing the data in the wrong schema ?
    Hemant K ChitaleHi,
    This is not the case. The KRAMP_HPM schema's are application dedicated schema's
    And this also then does not explain why the results are correct after generating statistics.
    Anyway thanks for the tip.
