Warning on DiskWarrior

Unfortunately I didn't check if there was an update before using it on my Snow Leopard drive. It reported many errors and I had it fix them. I couldn't boot from the SL disk again. Some many hours later all is right again, eventually I just restored a clone of 10.5.8 and am going to stick there for awhile.
Here's Alsofts site and the update:
http://www.alsoft.com/

08/27/2009 - Free DiskWarrior 4 version 4.2 Disc Updater Available
Owners of DiskWarrior 4 versions 4.0-4.1.1 can now download a free disc updater to update to DiskWarrior 4 version 4.2. This free updater application allows you to create a new startup disc (CD/DVD) with the latest version of DiskWarrior using your original DiskWarrior 4.0 or 4.1 disc. This approach provides you with an instant update while maintaining your ability to start up from a disc containing the latest version of DiskWarrior.
The DiskWarrior 4.2 Disc updater cannot update a disc created by any previous DiskWarrior updater. You must update your original (factory) DiskWarrior 4.0 or 4.1 disc. This limitation allows us to reduce the size and complexity of the updater. It also results in a significantly smaller test suite that permits us to issue updates more responsively.
Please note that the new startup disc you create will start up the same set of Mac models as your current DiskWarrior disc (CD/DVD). Your new disc will not start up any Mac that your current DiskWarrior disc can not. If you need a new DiskWarrior disc that can start up the newest Mac models, please contact our Sales Department to order. Please note that you will receive a DVD even if your previous DiskWarrior disc was a CD.

  • Warning on Gen2 1TB drive failing

I have seen a few posts and now within a couple of weeks have seen the 1TB drive A1302 fail.
The drive is a WD black caviar.. I am sure posting this warning will not help many people.. other than posthumously..
These drives seem to be failing in large numbers now.. they don't all seem to fail in the same way but it is the first time a drive in the TC has become generally faulty. So if the TC goes bad it is likely that both power supply and hard drive are shot.
Store any files you want to keep off the TC today.. now.. do not wait.
The cost of fixing both TC power supply and hard disk makes it uneconomic. Just buy a new one. IMHO!

The failures you are reporting refer to problems with data contained on the drive, where Disk Utility is unable to repair the associated files or directories so that they may be read correctlty. The drive hardware is probably still working fine & not permanently damaged by the corrupted data. In most cases, if you reformat the affected drive (after recovering what files you can) you will then be able to re-use the drive. If Disk Utility is able to reformat the affected drive, the your drive has not been "bricked."
Since you described multiple failures with various drives, it's important to rule out possible electrical problems which can result from damaged/defective USB cables, or under-powered drives. Any AirPort-attached hard drive should have its own power supply, and not depend on the AirPort or a USB hub to provide spin-up power. You should also be aware that Apple has received multiple reports of similar symptoms — corrupted data and directories on USB attached drives attached to AirPort Base Stations.
Since Apple is in the very early stages of recognizing an issue with the file handling firmware embedded in AirPort Exremes (and possibly Time Capsules) you can help the effort to identify & fix this problem by reporting your issue to Apple Wireless Technical Support.
Meanwhile, run Disk Utility frequently on any USB drives used with your AirPort — particularly if you're making frequent changes to the drives' contents. (FYI — DiskWarrior appears able to detect/correct minor disruptions to a drive's contents before Disk Utility is able to spot them.) For the time being, vigilance is probably your best defence …

  • Warning for downloaded app won't stop

I downloaded Air Mouse Server for my G4 iMac running OS 10.5.8. I got the usual warning about "this application was downloaded...are you sure you want to open it?" I clicked Open and installed the app. Now, unlike all other apps which I have downloaded and installed, every time the app starts up, I get the original warning box about "do you want to open it?" Is there any way to stop this? I've repaired permissions, deleted the app using Clean App and reinstalled it, used DiskWarrior...but no luck.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    run the following terminal command
    sudo xatrr -d com.apple.quarantine path/to/application
to get the path to the application in question drag it to the terminal window. make sure the spaces in the command are all there. You'll have to enter your admin password which you won't see after you enter the command. that's normal.

  • Diskwarrior Crashes Imac - Disc Stuck in drive

Hi, Any suggestions would be great. I am using a 20" flat panel G4 Imac. Tiger running. I loaded the latest Diskwarrior and selected it as the startup disk in system preferences. When the Imac restarts off the Diskwarrior CD it gets to a certain point and crashes. The warning comes up to restart, etc...
Problem is I can't eject the disc when I restart so it keeps trying to start from the Diskwarrior CD and crashes. I tried holding down the mouse while restarting, pressing the eject key, etc. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

Restart your machine with the Option key held down and select your hard disk in the list of available disks; to continue the startup process, press the button with the straight arrow. If your computer finishes starting up from the hard disk, eject the CD through the Finder and set your hard disk as the startup disk in System Preferences.

  • SUID file warning with Snow Leopard permissions repair

I get this whenever I repair permissions on SL
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Does anyone know what it means ?

I never found the need for these fine forums before -from my '94 Powerbook 500C thru my '04 iMac G4- but now I've upgraded to a tricked out 'new' 2008 MacBook with Snow Leopard I'm running into bugs, left, right and centre. Here's what I've got to share:
Aside from the now infamous Bluetooth issue, I just ran into the following two thread relevant warnings after running DU in an attempt to find out why my infrared Apple Remote won't work.
*Warning: SUID file "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopServicesPriv.framework/Versions/A/Reso urces/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.*
    and
*Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAg ent" has been modified and will not be repaired.*
From googling around it seems that these are nothing new for the Mac Daddy, dating back several years so I'm not holding my breath for Apple to step up to the plate.
Has anyone run anything like DiskWarrior or Drive Genius instead of Disk Utility to try and resolve this? I'd give it a go myself but since I'm still feeling my way around my new rig I'm a bit leery of being a lab rat myself.
I'm only three days into playing with all my new toy. What next? Oh well, at least I have company in my misery and we all know how compatible they are. I'm happy to make your acquaintance ladies and gentlemen.

  • Warning message AV7861

Recently having cause to repair permissions, I noticed a box (top right corner) in the permissions screen and marked LOG was ...
    a/ brown in colour
b/ was marked Warning AV7861. It may be a longer letter/number combination but as it said 'warning' I didn't click on it to see.
Could someone clarify what this means and whether or not I should take any action.

    HI,
If you have run a disk utility like DiskWarrior or ran defrag software on your Mac... might be from that.
Or, if you have used another Mac install disk on your Mac that is machine specific (grey label) to another Mac, could be from that also. Or possibly you have a BootCamp partition and running Windows.
I searched "disk utility AV7861" on Google and these are the hits.

  • LaCie Big Disk Warning signs... Should I ditch?

    Hi all,
First, want to quickly apologize for not doing a thorough read of all the posts regarding LaCie drives - the problem is that there are so many of them. People apparently are having all kinds of LaCie nightmares, and it would take me forever to read through everything. So here's my issue.
I have 3 LaCie Big Disk Extremes (d2), in three flavors. One 500 G, one 600 G, and 1 TB, each daisy-chained via FW 800 to the FW800 port on my G5 (Dual 2.5 GHz). All three have - until now - been acting just fine, but I just captured a few full HDV tapes to the 1 TB and I have had playback issues that just don't seem to go away. I'll play a few seconds, even at random points of the video, and it will freeze with the spinning beach ball of death.
At first I thought it was software issue, so I reinstalled QT, trashed preferences in FCP, but it all kept coming back to the same problem.
Now, here's the weird thing - when I copy the same video from my 1 TB to one of my other LaCies (which are actually further down the daisychain), the video plays fine, with no stuttering or freezing.
Now reading all of the LaCie posts is freaking me out a tad - is this some kind of warning sign that my 1 TB drive is heading down a dark path?
Is there some way I can fix it by either wiping it or attempting to see about fixing hardware?
And finally, is daisychaining all of these drives on the same FW 800 bus recommended, or is there a better solution (that won't break the bank)?
Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks guys!
    Dan
(P.S. Any suggestions on other drive brands? A client just bought a Western Digital MyBook 1 TB, and it seems to be working great, but I'm open to suggestions).

Yes it is true that people report lods of problems with Lacie drives and there are many reasons for that.
Even the power supply is considered dangerousely unreliable.
Another thing is that drives can fail indeed at some point. If you can play the footage from some of your other drives then the 1TB might have some issues (power supply or other is difficult to say). Best would be backing up your media and if you can then run Disk Warrior http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/
Good and not massively expensive drives, should you want new ones, are G-tech and Caldigit (links below). You could RAID a few drives (RAID 0 for example for quicker workflow), however, choice depends on several factors: what format you will be working on in the future, if you want to upgrade to eSATA at some stage, etc. Use the search tool of the forum or google for hints:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5068643
Personally I would NOT go for WD. Not really designed for editing.

  • Removing Resolution Warning?

So I've bought an Apple mini-DVI to video adapter so I can use front row on my TV. One caveat - when I try to use any photos in front row, it will hang indefinately because iPhoto will open and display a warning that my output resolution is too low. No kidding... it's connected to a 10 year old TV. So I was wondering if there was any possible way to disable this warning permanently so I can use front row without having to get up and close the warning every time.
    Thanks!
    -Chris

Output resolution too low...of the decade old boob-tube, huh? It's a shot in the dark, but apparently the resolution of the TV isn't compatible with the hardware/software mix.
I've never tried it, but perhaps resizing the images to a lower resolution might help? Maybe make a smart album of a test set of images. Dupe them and resize them to, what? 36ppi or something. Give that a shot?
    Hope that helps!

  • I am getting a warning message when i am trying to create a host-named sitecollection.

    Hi guys,
I am trying to create a host-named site collection. I have created the root site collection. After that i have tried to create customer root site. I have doing this process with the guidance of this link.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc424952.aspx#section2a
When i tried to create a customer root site. I am getting a warning message
" WARNING: The port specified for the new host header site does not match any known bindings in the specified Web
Application.  The new site will not be accessible if the Web Application is not extended to an IIS Web Site serving
    this port."
I couldn't when this warning message comes. I tried to bind the server with webapplication which is created for host-named site collection. No use.
Can anyone help me to solve. And i wanna know why this error message comes!!!
    Thanks in advance
    Rajendran.

First, you shouldn't create a host named site collection on a Web app that has host header named.  Doing that implements host names at two different levels and will not work reliably.  Second I'm not sure what you mean when you say you didn't
use the FQDN but used just the domain name.  A Full url will always be either an FQDN or a shorter Netbios name.  If you use a Netbios name it simply assumes the local AD domain of the workstation to create an FQDN as the url  There is no way
to use just the domain name.  For example, Contoso.com is the domain name.  Server.contoso.com or WEbsite.contoso.com are FQDNs.  YOu can also use a shorter version that is just server or website, but when those resolve in TCP/IP they would
still resolve using server.contoso.com or website.contoso.com if the workstation where your browser is was in the contoso.com domain.  What is the URL for your root site and your host named site?

  • Warning message in ALV report

    Hi Experts,
In ALV report i am getting warning like
" Field string LS_HEADER is not referenced statically"
Actually i declared this field as "DATA: ls_header TYPE slis_listheader.".
How to correct this warning message.
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Madhu.

    Dear Madhu,
You are not using LS_HEADER statically that you have defined in the program. You will get a warning message since you have defined a field that you have not referenced statically.
Are you using this field dynamically? You can delete/comment the code if you are not using it statically and dynamically.

I really need your help to remove the waring message.
For the purpose of changing the description on the Selection screen from “Cost Cetnters (Authorised Values)” to “Funds Centers” I had changed the ZCCTRATI variable description to Funds Centers
    Issue:
When we open the old report we see the following information message.
" Value if variable ZCCTRAT1 is automatically converted
I did go to TC RSRT as of Dinesh,Vijay advice ,Just want to know that what message i need to Click .because i could nt find the relevant message
Can u help me how to remove this ?

    Hi Manohar,
Edit to add: Here I assume you have a Web Application Designer (WAD) report.
You can suppress system and warning messages in WAD. Try this and see if it helps.
    - Go to your WAD report
    - In the top part of the properties window there is a drop down box. Open this box and select the top level entry there. This should be the name of your report.
    - Click Web Item
    - Check the following two checkboxes: "Do not Display System Messages" and "Do not Display Warnings".
    Hope this helps,
    Regards,
    Petter

  • How to disable IE Security Warning on opening a "local" visio file with Visio Viewer ActiveX?

    Hello all,
Everyone knows that Microsoft released ActiveX based Visio Viewer for free and allow the users to open Visio drawing and view/print via IE browser.
The problem that I am facing is that some users are complaining about IE browser's security warning on "active content to run in files on My Computer".
It means that opening .VSD files from the network, internet, intranet would be all OK but if the user wants to open .VSD files from the local hard drive (or open it as a mail attachment, which will extract it to a temp folder), it prompt the user to select "Allow Blocked Content" EVERYTIME they open them.
I know that I can GLOBALLY disable this warning by going through Tools - Internet Options - Security section and enable "Allow active content to run in files on My Computer" but I hope that there is a way (or workaround) to allow them by file type or location, etc.
    Questions:
    1. Is there any way to disable those warning for all .VSD only while we still UNCHECK the option on Internet Options?
    2. Is there any 3rd party Win32 based viewer which wouldn't have those restriction?
    3. Is it safe assumption that McAfee VirusScan and Host IPS protection is sufficient enough to remove the IE's security warning feature?
    Thanks in advance?
    Young-

Are you able to host/launch the VSD file via an HTM page? In that case you can format the HTM page as shown below. This will trick IE into thinking it is loading the file off of a website. Commonly called 'mark of the web'.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>

No, I do not mean just the music.  Copying just the media/music files or the media folder creates problems.

    Hi there
I have developed XML Publisher Report using Developer 6i Data Module, this report works fine for specific sets of records. but When I run this report for All Companies This Report Finished in Warning.

Is the XML file Complete with all tags closed? Issues with Oracle prevent the completion of the XML file. It truncates in between and hence is not parsed successfully by the XML Template.
Also, try setting the following to 'TRUE' under XML Publisher Administrator>Administration Tab
    1) Use XML Publisher's XSLT processor.
    2) Enable scalable feature of XSLT processor.
    3) Enable XSLT runtime optimization.
