Wasted opportunity

I am really happy with my Verizon coverage, but not happy with the price.  I've had other carriers, and I am sure I like Verizon the best as far as coverage.  As far as price goes, Verizon is the worst by far.  I guess that's one win and one loss on the pros cons.  My contract is up on Feb 9.  In deciding whether to continue with Verizon or switch to a cheaper alternative I must weigh the pros and cons. The next and only factor I have to go by is customer service.  Shortly after I bought the 2 phones on my plan, 1 of the chargers broke.  I went back to the Verizon store I had purchased my phones at and was told there is no warranty on the manufacturer chargers, but that the Verizon charger for $25 was guaranteed for a year against anything that happens to it.  When the charger broke a few months later, I was informed that the person who sold me the charger was wrong and that it wasn't covered if it broke.  Good job selling me on a false guarantee. My second interaction with customer service was today, just a couple weeks from the end of my contract.  I dropped my phone today and it quit working so I went to Verizon since I have paid for insurance.  I told the employee I had broken my phone.  They asked my phone number and then said you have warranty, call this number and give them your info and pay them $100 and you will get a replacement tomorrow.  I do think just 2 weeks from the end of my contract I should have been given some options here.  Obviously 1 option would be to spend $100 to receive a refurbished replacement phone that hopefully works (I've been down that road before and know that sometimes it can take a couple phones to get 1 that works). Another option would have been to say why don't you pick out a new phone instead of paying $100 on a used one, and get the discounted price signing a new contract. I like that option a lot better, why would I wanna spend $100 on a junk phone, when $200 gets me a new phone that should last?  I don't work for Verizon though, I'm just the customer.  Since I was only presented with 1, very poor option considering where i'm at on my contract, I chose a third option.  I bought a cheap prepaid phone and card for 1/2 the $100 deductible you wanted that will get me by until February 9.  On February 9, I will most certainly be moving on to another provider. My advice would be find better employees for your stores, or train them better. I don't give money to companies who have no desire to have my business.

It's not that VZW doesn't care about your business...you want rules to be changed to fit your needs.  I know it may seem unfair...but you contract doesn't say that we'll offer you a better deal if you're within 2 weeks of the end of your agreement...it says EXACTLY when you'll be able to upgrade at discount pricing.  Business don't run off the "chalk board" method...you can't erase things when you don't like them and make it what you want it to be.  As for the insurance on your phone...yes, they all have a deductible...which they detail when you sign up for the service.  I don't see how VZW has wronged you in any way.  And if the sales rep really did tell you something was covered when it wasn't then shame on him...the rest of your issues is actually non-issues...

  • How can we make Microsoft listen? (a serious question)

    The Windows 7 Beta identified a host of minor problems with the new user interface, and hundreds of people took the time and trouble to point them out, thinking they were being helpful.
    The RC has addressed virtually none of them.  Not only does this mean that Microsoft wasted everyone's time by inviting feedback and then ignoring most of it; it also means that W7 will be launched with a host of silly niggles that stop it being a really great product.  This is such a wasted opportunity!!
    I'm not talking about major architectural changes here, such as re-introducing the XP-style Start menu.  I understand why MS won't do that.  I'm talking about the really silly, annoying little things that surely could be fixed, and which DO NOT undermine or dilute Microsoft's vision for what they want Windows 7 to be.
    I won't list them all here - this forum is full of them for all to see for themselves.  But I can give a few examples, to illustrate my point:
    1/ Place the mouse pointer over an icon in the taskbar for a non-running program.  It takes ALMOST TWO SECONDS for the tooltip with the program name to appear.  Now that my most commonly used programs are merely icons - without labels - in the taskbar, I occasionally need to remind myself what program an icon represents.  A two second speed bump is a damn nuisance.
    This is such an obvious fault, and must be so trivial to fix, I can't honestly believe MS is seriously thinking of leaving it unfixed for launch.
    2/ This one refers to stacked icons in the taskbar (representing a program with multiple windows, of course).  For these, hovering over the icon, and clicking on it, do exactly the same thing (bring up the little preview pictures).  This is IN DIRECT CONTRADICTION to the behaviour for non-stacked icons (a program with just one window), in which hovering over the icon shows the preview, and CLICKING ON THE ICON BRINGS THAT WINDOW TO THE FOREGROUND.
    In other words, for non-stacked icons, the hover and click have two distinct functions, both of which feel entirely logical and "smooth".
    The obvious question is "OK, but which of the windows should be restored when clicking on a stacked icon?".  The answer has been arrived at independently numerous times by different commentators: the most recently opened window.  This makes good sense ergonomically - there's a good chance that the most recently opened window is the one most likely to be wanted, anyway.
    So, the functionality for stacked icons should be: a/ hover shows the preview pictures; b/ click restores the most recently viewed window.
    This would then "feel" TOTALLY CONSISTENT with the behaviour for non-stacked icons, and would be a great shortcut.  And again, it has been suggested countless times by some very thoughtful and intelligent commentators.
    Here's how the taskbar icons would work, in summary:
    a/ Non-running program
    Hover: show program name in a tooltip
    Click: launch and bring to the foreground
    b/ Running program, single window
    Hover: show preview picture
    Click: bring window to the foreground
    c/ Running program, multiple windows (stacked icon)
    Hover: show preview pictures
    Click: bring most recent window to the foreground
    Totally consistent, fast, "smooth", and suggested by countless commentators.  It is simply better than the current arrangement, and yet is consistent with it and must be perfectly feasible to implement.
    3/ Here's a simple one: open an Explorer window.  Make the folder navigation pane (on the left) fairly narrow.  Now try to navigate to a deeply nested folder.
    Problem!  The pane no longer has that auto-sideways-scroll that was introduced with Vista, but NOR DOES IT HAVE A HORIZONTAL SCROLL BAR.  The only thing you can do is drag the handle to make the pane wider.  What a bodge!
    4/ Gadgets can no longer be "guarded" from maximised windows.  I understand why MS thought the gadget bar was superfluous, but it had one great feature: it made sure gadgets were (or could be) always visible.
    It's no good setting the gadgets to "always on top" because that hides parts of the window you are working on.  Now, I can no longer glance across to the calendar, the weather, the exchange rates, the news feeds; I have to un-maximise the window I'm working in, or steer my mouse to the Desktop Peek button.  Time wasted!  It's just another clunky speedbump, and totally unnecessary.
    I could go on, but you've got the idea.  There are countless little issues like these that MS has received MASSES of highly consistent feedback on, and yet (for some reason) insists on leaving broken.
    Dear Windows 7 development team: we are on your side!  We want W7 to be utterly brilliant!  Most of us are intelligent, experienced "power users" and we have useful things to say.  We are your customers!  Please, what can we do to make you pay attention to these annoying little issues that take the gloss off an otherwise superb product?
    At the very least, use your E7 blog to tell us why you want our gadgets to get hidden, why we can't scroll the folder pane in Explorer, why we've got to wait almost two seconds for a tooltip, why we can't single-click restore the most recent window, etc, etc.
    Pretty please??
    Steve Thackery
    (Thack)
    PS: Yes, I know you can alter some of these behaviours with subtle registry hacks.  But for 99% of users that's a non-starter.  (And in any case, it can cause unwanted side effects, as I found out when trying to change the mouse hover/tooltip delay).  We want W7 to work properly out of the box.

    Hi Thack
    Your comments are welcome.
    Besides posting your comments here, you also need to post it in the official feedback thread. These poasts really are sent directly to the beta team and they really do read them. The more feedback they get on specific changes, the more likely those changes are to be implemented.
    Go to the following thread. Click the Reply Button on the first post and write your comments.
    Have Comments about Windows 7 RC?
    All of the posts in that thread are collected, periodically and sent directly to the Beta Team.
    Hope this helps.

  • Does AppleTV(v2) output 24-bit audio through TOSLINK port?

    I have some high-definition audio files (24-bit/44.1KHz and 24/96) in Apple Lossless format. I also have what I thought was a simple question: Does the AppleTV support bit-perfect playback of such files? In other words, will the AppleTV stream them without downsampling them? Posts on other forums suggest that the AppleTV downsamples everything to 16/48 (which would be absurd on Apple's part, as every other link in the audio chain, including iTunes, Mac, DAC, etc fully supports 24/96). Can anyone confirm either way? The technical specs are conspicuously silent on this issue...

    Patrick Dubby wrote:
    Aaaargh, I was thinking of getting one of these as a more convenient way of getting 24/96 sound out of my macbook than a long TOSLINK cable to my amplifier.
    Looks like another wasted opportunity.
    Yep
    What I don't understand is that according to other reports, digital audio from a DVD is passed through no problems. Why would a 5.1 digital signal be untouched, but a similar signal from iTunes be screwed up?
    Personally I think they don't see beyond the iTunes store purchase/rental model.
    As you know you can't even buy true CD quality audio from iTunes let alone anything better.
    When we're able to download/buy 4GB HD movies, I see no practical reason why we couldn't have CD quality or better encoded as Apple Lossless audio.
    There must be some sort of workaround?
    No. I ended up buying a Mac Mini.
    The majority of other media boxes I looked at previously also were limited and even though some supported FLAC they couldn't output 24/48 ot 24/96.
    I'm sure some of them must do it now, but it's a shame AppleTV can't - I doubt it's a hardware related issue, simply one of support.
    And why, in 2011, is 24/96 still considered 'audiophile'? After 30 years of 16/44.1 you'd think we would have moved on somewhat to a new standard.
    Truth being most people don't care. MP3/portable players have killed many people's appreciation of what good quality audio sounds like. I use these devices all the time on the go, but for home listening I do not want lossy compressed audio to play on the hi-fi, and in this day and age we should be able to ditch the silver discs easily.

  • Bad design

    I might be way off the mark here, but bear with me a second...
    Photoshop CS5, Camera Raw 6.1, and now Lightroom 3 can all use Lens Profiles to correct images. You can share profiles with the Photoshop community is if you have Lens Profile Creator, but you can only download them if you have Photoshop CS5. Is this correct?
    Presumably then, people with Lightroom are unable to download new profiles, and are unable to access the Adobe profile server. So what do they do? Share profiles over the internet in an ad hoc way? Isn't Adobe missing a trick here? Surely there are an increasing number of Lightroom users who are not sharing their new profiles - after all, what's in it for them?
    If there are plans to add lens profile downloading to Lightroom, then fair enough. It's a shame it wasn't implemented earlier. But that's just tought luck, I suppose. I only mention this because I keep seeing messages of people requesting profiles by email or yousendit. It seems a terribly wasted opportunity for everyone else.

    Well, I don't use Lightroom, and I can get CR lens profiles through Photoshop CS5, so it's not something which affects me directly. It does affect me indirectly though, as there seems to be an unofficial trade in lens profiles by Lightroom users who dont use CS5. So the altruistic profile exchange system set up by Adobe as an asset for their products isn't working to its best.
    However, if the developers were limited by schedules, then this perfectly explains the situation, and I wouldn't expect many to have to make a feature request to make it obvious that Lightroom users need this feature too, for theirs and CS5 users benefit alike.

  • No international printing options

    I'll keep this simple: I've just had a look at the new ability to print cards and calendars in iPhoto 6 and I'm very sad to see that you're restricted to shipping to the country where your credit card billing address is (at least for Japan).
    This is a huge wasted opportunity and devalues the service. I might as well just print it myself and send in the post.
    Just my 2 cents, but it would be really great if you would ship elsewhere -- after all, it's just a case of transferring the files to the print service nearest the recipients' address and should have nothing to do with the billing address.
    Big pity, Apple.

  • WebOS Suggestions for HP Palm

    I'm a big fan of webOS so I want HP Palm to succeed.  I have a few suggestions that hopefully will help in that regard.  You've already heard common suggestions like releasing better hardware with HD displays and 4G speeds so I won't repeat those.  Hopefully these are unique...
    The first suggestion is to utilize Wi-Fi Direct.  The Wi-Fi Peer-to-Peer specification allows Wi-Fi devices to talk to each other without the need for an access point.  This means I could wirelessly send a document from my Palm Pre to a coworker's Palm Pre without an internet connection.
    HP Palm is better positioned than anyone else to utilize Wi-Fi Direct.  What about HP printers running webOS with Wi-Fi Direct?  Now I can walk up to any HP printer, find it through a Wi-Fi Direct application on my Palm Pre phone, and print my document all without an internet connection!
    The final two suggestions are to remove some artificial limitations that I think are hurting HP Palm more than they realize.  And for no good reason!  I've seen many posts on these issues and I suspect there are lots of customers who include them in their reasons for considering other OSes.
    The first limitation is the browser image size limitation.  I know this limitation is artificial.  I can only suspect that the carriers require this?  But Android devices do not have this limitation.  Why not push for the same deal Google has with the carriers and remove this limitation?
    The second limitation is the lack of autonomous GPS.  I know this limitation is artificial too.  Once again this may be a carrier requirement.  But Android devices do not have this limitation either.  So why not push for the same deal Google has with the carriers and remove it?
    The first two suggestions are extremely important to the majority of your customers but I'll admit that the last one may not be.  I included that because I'm a hiker who would like to have one device for both communication and standalone GPS on hikes with no cellular signal.
    I don't even care if the standalone GPS isn't very accurate.  Close is better than nothing when you're lost on a hike!  And the fact that it is supported in hardware but is artificially turned off even though Android phones have it turned on just seems like a wasted opportunity.
    So I hope these suggestions help.  And I hope they make it to someone in HP Palm that can do something about them.  I personally think that they will contribute significantly to the success of HP Palm.  I know they would definitely keep me on board!
    Thanks for listening...
    Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

    I just realized that some people who read about Wi-Fi Direct might be asking "why not just use Bluetooth?"  Bluetooth is a low power consumer and that is great for mobile.  But it also limits the distance and speed at which this protocol can operate.
    Wi-Fi has current and proposed specifications that permit greater distances and speeds.  The benefits I see here are having a consistent protocol for non-cellular communication and the obvious benefits of communicating at greater distances and speeds.
    Portable gaming devices already use peer-to-peer Wi-Fi for multiplayer gaming.  This permits gamers to search and discover other gamers say at a football stadium while waiting for halftime.  It also permits practical things like sending files to devices you aren't standing directly in front of.

    Hi All,
    We have a scenario. AFTER completing opportunity A (which is shown in sales assistant tab

    wormseric, I guess this one is a minor case of cross-posting (I assume you posted there a while ago and nothing happened), but if you're going to do it next time, at least provide a link to the other forum's thread so we can see whether you already got an answer or not. Us writing yet another reply that was already given somewhere else is a waste of time.
    And second: please stay on topic. This is a forum about Java Programming with Sun's JDK, and no 3rd-party product support forum, however short the reply time may be.

    hi tw
    I did my certification in SAP SD from Bangalore by month of October 2012, after that
    i received only one opportunity to attend interview at Capgemini, I cleared my
    interview but unluckily project was canceled and they haven't done any recruitment.
    your view is add on Knowledge, still I am maintaining studying, at least every day 7hrs plus, but problem is, job market or industry not have need of certified person, companies prefer to get 3 years real time exp persons more willingly than certified fresher.
    I had discussed with few of the HR managers, their reply was, in certification course there is no real time project training, it’s just about overall SAP concept, so we prefer 1 or 2 years exp people.
    So my opinion is going for SAP SD certification is useless and money wasting.

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Account  Territory = Opportunity Territory

    Hi All,
    We have the territory filled out on all our accounts. We want the the account territory value to be automatically populated in an opportunity that was created from the account page (or filled in once we choose an account in the opportunity).
    It seems like this should work out of the box, but it doesn't and we cannot find any way to do it other than manually fill it out, which seems like a waste and annoys our users.
    Is there any STANDARD way to do this, not requiring web services?
    Thanks.

    We are using the applications territories.
    We are using assignment rules for accounts and in fact assign accounts automatically to a territory, but do not have a generic rule we can use for the opportunities.
    It stands to reason (ours at least) that an opty linked to an account will be in the same territory as the account and therefore think there should be a way to carry the value over.

  • User must wait several minutes before NEW opportunity shows up in report

    When a user creates an opportunity, they will then add product revenue to it. After that, they need to run a report of the opportunity and send the quote to the customer.
    The report will prompt for the opportunity name and then retrieve the formatted quote form.
    The issue is, after the opportunity is created and product revenue added, when the user tries to run the report, the data selection will not display the opportunity. The opportunity will not show up until after the user logs out and then back into CRMOD.
    EDIT: The log out/in portion was just a coincidence and plays into a delay in some sort of background processing problem.
    If the user just waits , up 15 to 20 minutes in some cases, the opportunities will show up in the list. Sometimes, they appear very quickly, other times it take a very long time.
    I am surmising that this has to do with some sort of business function that runs in the background, and being a shared system, there is a backlog in the processing. Similar to the wait queue for data imports.
    Is this normal behavior?
    Edited by: nsidev on Aug 28, 2009 1:59 PM

    Hi, I think the problem is with the drop down prompt not getting refreshed with newly added opportunities, otherwise with the direct reports clicking the "rerfresh" link brings the newly created opportunity. The problem also doesnt seem to happen if the prompt is of type "Browse through choices and/or type in directly "

  • Opportunity Product Revenue report using Narrative option

    Hi,
    I have created quote report using "Opportunity product revenue report" with the use of narrative option and its working fine but the problem here is if opportunity has multiple product revenue items it shows in multiple quotes. For me it should show in a same quotation if there are multiple opportunity product revenue items in a opportunity. Could anyone help me how can i achieve this.
    Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
    Thanks & Regards
    Ambarish

    You need to modify report and club all revenue to single item / row.

  • How can I print just a select/highlighted portion of a webpage/email? FF prints EVERYTHING on each page, wasting ink.

    I switched form IE to FF. In IE, I could select text (or photos) and print just the portion of web pages and emails that I wanted, thus saving paper and ink. I have not been able to do that with FF. I have to print all of each page, so text, ads, and whatever other extraneous material prints. What a waste! Is there any way to select and print just what I need using FireFox? Currently I have to run both IE and FF to handle my printing and documentation needs. Thank you!
