WDS for custom image deployment via PXE

I've recently spun up a 2012R2 server and I'd like to use it so I can netboot clients to it and install a custom image on the machine, no hassle. I have figured out how to take an image from a Windows 7 install disk and add drivers to it.
However, I'm wondering the best way that I could configure an image to use that has all programs, profiles, updates, and drivers on it for a 'universal' install. Is this possible?
For example, can I have a 32-bit image that has Chrome, FireFox, and some other programs on it, complete with any drivers that might be needed for NIC and WLAN cards, graphics adapters, etc? And then a 64-bit image for the same thing. Ideally, these
would house drivers for any of our machines, so I could PXE boot a 64- or 32-bit desktop or laptop, regardless of the model (They're all one manufacturer) and have them install the image and be configured, ready to go?
I would also like to know how I could create a custom image/ISO from a machine that is already ready-to-go as a template.

Yea. In a nut shell:
1. Do the install and create the needless account the setup process forces you to create.
2. On first log in enable the original default Administrator account and give it a password
3. Log in with the default Administrator account.
4. Delete the local account that setup forced you to create
5. Go to Advanced system Settings --> User Profiles, and remove the profile for that account. This is important,...this removes the registry entries for the Profile as well (just deleting the folder structure under "C:\Users" does not,
and problems can result).
6. Build your image model from this point using the original default local Administrator account. This is the only account that Sysprep will leave on the machine when it is run. Note the machine is not a Domain Member when I am at this point.
I only join the machine that I apply the image to when I finally deploy the machine to be used .
7. Run Sysprep on the machine to prepare it for duplication, then shutdown or reboot. When starting up you do not want to allow it to boot into the OS or you will have to rerun Sysprep again. You can use WDS to "capture" an image
after doing a network boot from the Nic. You can also boot the machine using a Windows PE bootdisk and manually capture an image with ImageX (comes with WAIK for Win7). But ImageX is commandline only and annoying,...there is a GUI alternative called
GImageX (google it). Then manually copy the captured image to the WDS Server. Note when you capture an image,..you are only capturing the Boot Partition,...not the entire drive.
The details of all this you can sort out by studying "how to use" WDS and WAIK (Win7). That should put you on the right track.

Problems with *.zmg Image deploy via PXE

I am currently faced with the following problem unfortunately:
We use ZCM pre boot (pxe) to image our clients with a windows7.zmg image which was configured with sysprep.
The image is created on a PC, which has a 300GB HDD. The windows partition is over the total size of the hdd.
This imaging process on a new pc is as following script shows:

This works quite well so far, with the only problem, that the partition on the new PC has the maximum of 300 GB. So if I image this image on a pc, which hdd has 500 GB, 200 GB will remain unpartitioned.

Now the entire HDD is used for the partition, but after the imaging the PC doesn`t boot, and stops with a black screen and a blinking cursor.
I am typing this on a problem with the mbr, but does not know how to fix it: (
I have to modify the imaging-process, that i can use the image on every HDD size with the result, that always the max partitionsize is used.

Personally i would'nt suggest using the Application server, due to
1. If you need down time for application patching, you custom application will also be down.
2. If you can not start 10g Application server (The one came with R12) for some issues, it will also affect your custom application.
3. If you are upgrading/patching 10g application server (the one came with R12), you would not know what will the affect of this on custom application.

Custom Image deploy and custom default profile how?

Hi,
I have custom created wim image(Windows 8.1 update2 x64 enteprise) with all programs that I want - like:
Office2013
7zip
antivirus software
etc...
Question is - Can I create default profile with my custom settings (control panel list icons, This PC icon show on desktop, Outlock icon pined on taskbar....)?
I am create custom start menu but all other settings I cant modify.
I am found sysprep solution and ansver file but it is to complicate and
requires much more time.
Can I somehow copy administrator profile to default profile with all settings like I have in admin account?
I dont understood why microsoft prefer sysprep way for create image? I think that is much
easier periodically create an image
with all applications and updates with default profile.
After implementing image wsus takes him for update and
everyone is happy.

My latest issue - I am uninstall all store apps(with powershell some command with -online )for all users but apps
appear again when the new
domain user log in.

Customize Windows 8 start screen for sysprepped image deployment.

I am attempting to customize the start screen of a windows 8 Pro image for deployment. I have been searching and reading different threads well as technet articles but I have not found anything that works or is not completely documented.
I have tried the three methods outlined in the technet about customizing the start screen with no luck. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj134269.aspx
The CopyProfile option does not work. Even after enabling the administrator account in audit mode the start screen tiles are not saved after sysprepping.
Copying the AppFolderLayout.bin file or appsFolder.itemdata-ms to the default user profile does not work. The file is overwritten during the oobe process. I have added these files after sysprepping the image. They are overwritten in the default user
profile during oobe before the new user is created.
Using the StartTiles section of unattend would be the best option that will require fewer manual steps but only seems to be able to add new tiles. I cannot remove tiles or change order with StartTiles.

Windows 7 Deployment via PXE to an UEFI + secure boot enabled Lenovo system.

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if above was possible?. I have not yet put much energy this uefi and secure boot thingy - so just told our supporters to change bios settings back to Legacy with secure boot disabled on the pre Windows 8 delivered Lenovo systems.
Deployment system :
SCCM 2012 SP1 is running on a Windows Server 2008R2

Error when a TS step has a condition to check for custom variable. Variable is set on the collection.

SCCM Version = SCCM 2012 R2 CU3
Background
I would like to setup some sort of safety check to help prevent accidentally sending and OSD out to all the servers managed by SCCM. The solution I am trying to use is making the TS do a check for a custom variable. If the variable is NOT set to TRUE
then it should reboot the machine back to the currently installed OS.
The variable is called "AllowOSD"
AllowOSD is set correctly on my "Test Servers" collection
I'm using the built in "Reboot Computer" step in the TS
The condition on the Reboot Computer step is very basic - "Task Sequence Variable AllowOSD is not equal TRUE".
I am testing the TS on a VM guest (Hyper-V)
I'm deploying via PXE for these tests...
The Issue
As soon as the TS starts I get the annoyingly generic 0x80004005 error - smsts.log posted on github -

Possibly related issue:
I have a vbscript that prompts for, and sets, the computer name. This works fine if placed after the format disk step, but if I place it before the format disk step then I get error 0x800700A1. If I format the internal HD first then I don't get an error
and it all works fine.

Be aware VM_1 and VM_2 have unformatted disks (vhdx). I don't want them to be formatted before checking that the task sequence should really be running in the first place. As already mentioned, I am trying to prevent someone wiping out a bunch of servers
by accident.
My Task Sequences are based on the defaults created by the wizard. Here are the step I'm using...
* Reboot if AllowOSD is not TRUE
Restart in Windows PE
* set Computer Name
Partition DIsk 0 - DIOS
Partition Disk 0 - UEFI
Install Operating System
Apply Windows Settings
Apply Network Settings
Setup Windows and Config Manager
* = steps I have created.
All other steps are defaults as created by wizard.
Please note the "Restart in Windows PE" step does a conditional check on "_SMSTSInWinPE" without any errors. it is looking like the use of custom variables is not supported until the local HD is formatted and mounted. Can
anyone confirm this behaviour, or what I can do to get around this problem.
I have tried using a vbscript but triggering a reboot from VB does nothing, hence using the Reboot Computer step in the TS.

As others have stated, your options are limited the moment you rely on PXE and WinPE but I think all you need to do is refine your collection target a bit.
Why not instead of deploying your TS to All Systems (which is what I'm guess you're doing) and trying to put a condition in, deploy to a collection that is based on a workstation collection then include unknown computers? Then any "known workstation"
will have a MAC stored and thus be permitted to use the TS, unknown machines will be as well ... but "known servers" will be blocked?
COnsidering the PXE looks for permitted MAC addresses this should work (Ill try it in my own lab).
Tested and verified:
Simply create a collection with a parent collection of all systems.
Add a workstation query:
select SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceID,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceType,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Name,SMS_R_SYSTEM.SMSUniqueIdentifier,SMS_R_SYSTEM.ResourceDomainORWorkgroup,SMS_R_SYSTEM.Client from SMS_R_System where SMS_R_System.OperatingSystemNameandVersion LIKE "%Workstation%"
Then "include" unknown computers.
End result is any machine that has "server" in it's version that has already been deployed will not be able to use the deployment. If you'd rather base existing computer on an OU or group membership just modify the first query how you see fit.
This will let known workstations (or whatever) and unknown machines get deployed to ... but known machines NOT in that collection will be skipped.

Multicast WDS Imaging Not Working - Doesn't show up when booted via PXE..?

I have a lab environment setup specifically for imaging laptops via WDS. I have a stand alone Windows 2012 server connected directly to an 8-Port Cisco SG-220 8 Port switch. Nothing else is connected to this server and it is not being
used for anything else. The server is running DHCP and WDS. I can boot laptops via PXE and connect to the WDS server to deploy the images through standard WDS imaging. However, I have not been able to get Multicasting to work. I
have never used Multicasting before and have read through the documentation but must be missing something. This is what I've done:
1. In the WDS server I right click on my deployment image and select 'create multicast image' then go through the prompts to create an auto-cast image.
2. The Multicast image is created and shown as 'waiting' on the WDS server.
3. The Cisco router is brand new out of the box, the only configuration I did was to enable IGMP snooping. I did not make any other changes to the setup of the switch.
4. I boot a target machine via PXE using the same Boot Image that I always use. It loads to the screen where I can select the image I want to deploy but it never shows the multicast image as an option. I only see the regular image I had previously
been using.
I'm not sure what else I'm missing in order to get the target machine to connect and image using the multicast image.

The multicast feature used by WDS uses Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) version 3. Your network switches will need to support this, and you’ll need to configure them

Deploying Custom Image with Answer File

Hi everyone!
I'm in the process of making a custom image for ~25 computers, using WAIK (no network so no MDT, WDS...). I followed Technet's "Step-by-Step: Basic Windows 7 Deployment for IT Professionals", and installed from original Win7 Ultimate Retail
Media, with an answer file. Finally I customized that install and now have a properly set-up install, in audit mode and waiting to be generalized.
I'd like to deploy this custom install with an answer file/configuration set, in order to auto-install some drivers and hardware-specific apps, answer typical questions, etc...
But I must admit, I'm a bit unclear as to how to proceed from there. So I'm going to state how I understand it, and would love you to correct me where I'm wrong!
On reference computer, run syprep /generalize /oobe /shutdown
Boot to WinPE, capture image with ImageX
Open the resulting custom.wim in WSIM, generate a catalog file
Make Answer File + Configuration Set, copy them to the root of an empty UFD
Replace the Original Win7 Media's install.wim with my custom.wim, make bootable UFD
Deploy to other computers with the 2 UFD's
Does that sound right to you? Am I missing something? Also, should I be running sysprep with a /unattend:xxx.xml switch (not sure how that works)?
Bonus Question:
I'd like to use the Answer File + Configuration Set to perform some silent installs via script. Could you point me to a relevant Technet (or 3rd party) resource for that?

If you are doing the "replace install.wim" option, then you are installing using Setup. In this scenario, Setup will ignore the answer file specified in the image with the /unattend switch with Sysprep. So it would be unnecessary to prepare the
image with that switch.

Anyways, I'd rather use an autounattend.xml in another UFD, which I can replace for any different hardware type, partition layout, etc...

Is it possible to map a custom images (or other) directory on the Standalone deployment server?
i.e.: images is mapped to /i/
corporate images mapped to /ci/

Hello Karen,
as for the current release 1.1.1, only +/i/+ is supported directly in standalone mode. I assume you can't just reset the images prefix on your APEX instance. So you'll either have to use a "fullblown" J2EE Container for that purpose, or put a HTTP proxy in front of your standalone APEX Listener. Many proxies, e.g. Apache HTTPD, can be configured to do reverse proxying for a certain URL-path (e.g. +/apex+), but serve locally on others (e.g. +/i/+ and +/ci/+), so you could copy your images into the proxies document root.

I have found the .gifs inside this par file of my NW7.0 Portal:

The TS is deployed to the All Unknown Computers group. The client machine I'm trying to install the OS is a VM with no OS currently installed so I'm assuming SCCM would see it as an Unknown Computer. How would I verify that SCCM doesn't currently
hold any data for this client?

Best practice for customizing EJB property after deployment

Hi Gurus,
What is the best practice for customizing EJB property after deployment in NW7.1? I have a stateless session bean and it needs to get some environment information before acting. While the information can only be known at runtime. What should I do to achieve it? I thought I can bind the property with a JNDI context but I did not find out where to declare and change the context value. Please advise. Thanks.

I have a similar problem. But I still can not edit the properties of the ejb-jar.xml.
I tried to stop the web service, but the properties still remain unmodifiable.
Could you advise me how to change them?

SAP Cloud For Customer : How to change the Logo or Image into the Standard Form Template

Hi Experts,
I have requirement to change the standard template format.
I have copy standard template and edit using Adobe Life Cycle Designer to change the logo / image.
After changed and upload modified template and change the output setting for print i can able to see the changes but logo / image can not display.
Can anyone have idea how to solve this issue ?
Can we change the template within cloud system?
If Yes than How ?

Edit a Form Master Template
Overview
As an administrator, you can edit existing form master templates. These are used to define the header, footer, and logos used in form templates. Form master templates also contain an e-mail disclaimer that is appended to automatically generated e-mails sent to business partners when a document is output from the system.
Procedure
1. Go to Application and User Management or Administrator Business Flexibility Master Template Maintenance .
2. In the Master Template Maintenance view, select Form Master Templates from the Show menu.
3. Select the master template you want to edit and click Edit.
4. On the Form Master Template tab, do the following:
Under Header, click Upload and browse to find the file you want as logo. Adjust the size and alignment of the logo, as required.The file formats .gif, .bmp, .jpg, .png, and .tif are supported. The logo should not be larger than 40 mm width x 20 mm height. If you upload a graphic that is larger than 40 mm x 20 mm, it is resized automatically.Select the Header Divider checkbox if you want a graphical divider to appear on your form.Under Sender Address, enter your company’s address. The sender address is shown above the recipient's address in a letter.Under Footer, choose the number of footer columns you want to display. Enter the footer text exactly as you would like it to appear on the form. You can maintain up to 4 footer blocks with a maximum of 10 lines per footer.Note that the width of each footer block is equally divided over the available space. If a line of text in the footer is too long for the current font size, the system will automatically enter a line break. If this automatic line break does not meet your needs, you may need to enter the text after the line break as a separate line.To maintain multiple languages, you must first add the language from the Add menu and then maintain the texts in that language by selecting the language from the dropdown list.
5. Click the refresh button to preview your changes. From the dropdown list under Preview, you can select a country. The preview is then displayed using the country-specific template, for example, some countries do not use sender addresses or have different paper sizes.
6. On the E-Mail Disclaimer tab, you can enter a disclaimer or other company-specific legal information.
This text is appended to the main text body of e-mails that are created when a document is output by the system. It is not possible to create separate language versions of this text; therefore if your company uses multiple communication languages, you should enter all language versions of the disclaimer here.
7. Click Save and Close.
Result
If required, you can now assign the form master template to a company/org unit and/or output channel. For more information, see the Master Template Maintenance Quick Guide.
Note that master templates can be activated and deactivated for each form template in the Form Template Maintenance view. For more information, see the Form Template Maintenance Quick Guide.
