Web Catalog - User Folders

We currently are in the process of including the domain name in the OBIEE account name so jsmith will become Domain/jsmith. This is has been changed in the RPD using the UDML script. My question is with the current users folders in the Web Catalog. My first question would be is there any thing that any of you have used to be able to figure out who has requests or dashboards saved in their personal folders/my dashboards.
In regards to moving the contents, the only thing I could think of doing right now is create the folder in the Web Catalog and move the objects under the users folder (jsmith) into the newly named folder (Corp/jsmith) then apply the applicable permissions and ownership. I was wondering if there is any other way those on the forum have done this?
Thanks to all for any suggestions.

There is no easy way to do what you want I think. By default Administrators don't have access to use folders. You can change this but you will need to do this manually for each user folder because if you do it recursively at the /root/users/ level then all the user's permissions are removed. You could do a script that checks the contents of the user's personal folder looking at the file system Web Catalog [Web Catalog Path]/root/users/[user name]/ to see if they have any requests saved or not. They are a few standard items in the user's folder so if you ignore all those plus all the .atr files (permission to items) then you should be able to get a list of users that have saved reports.

  • OBIEE web catalog organization (or lack thereof...)

Hi, I'm trying to come up with a "best practices" scheme to allow organizing our "shared" web catalog folders and directory structure. Our particulars are:
    - We need to have one group of dashboards / reports that are "enterprise approved"
    - we need to have another set of areas available for various business units to do their own work in, but not be available as "enterprise approved", just for business area use
    - need to cover analyses, dashboards, filters, prompts, etc.
    - would like to keep dashboard related items organized together if possible
    - would like to keep prompted analyses separate from analyses used in dashboards if necessary
    - power users will all have their own "personal" folders, I'm not worried about those (but if hints on how to arrange to make migration to either the shared "business unit" or shared "enterprise approved" folders, that would be great)
    - I'd like dashboards to show up properly, which seems to imply they need to be just one level under the main "Shared" directory
Does anyone have a best practices way of organizing the web catalog to make the above easy to accomplish?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi
Did anyone help you out?  I am also looking for a list of best practices or blogs that contain that type of information.

  • Controlling web catalog promotions (11g)

Hi, we're thinking about setting up our web catalog with three different types of high level folders:
    1. Standard personal folders for each user
    2. "Sandbox" shared folders that can be shared by a group
    3. Enterprise approved "gold standard" folders
Everything in the "gold standard" folder will be controlled centrally, so I have no issues with that. However, for the business area "sandboxes" - I do NOT want each and every user in that group to have access to publish to the sandbox area. I want that controlled by 1 or 2 power users.
The issue I'm hitting is I'm not sure how a power user could go into another users folder, grab a analysis, and publish it into the sandbox area. Even if the user grants access to the power user, it appears that no person can go into another person's personal folder.
Is the only solution for this is to give the catalog manager tool to the power users?
    Thanks,
    Scott

    Hi,
You can go to the Web catalog folder path and take the users report file and its .atr file and then paste them in the desired location (If the user is having the access to view the report.)
    Hope this helped/ answered.

    hi,
i have a requirement to merge two different web catalogs each having it's own users, groups, privilleages.so if i use copy and paste all the folders in catalog 1 to catalog 2,does this completes my merge i.e.., copying all folders like groups, privgs, metadata, users, shared.
    thanks

Copy and paste is not always a good practice. Use Web catalog Instead.

  • Move Users folders from external drive to a new internal drive

    Hi All,
I have a white Intel iMac running Snow Leopard. I have kept the Users folder (4 users) on an external hard disk (too many photos and movies). The internal hard disk recently died, but since all user data was on the external, I wasn't too worried.
The iMac now has a new hard disk, and I've installed the system back, starting from the original System Install DVD so that all the iApps are also reinstalled.
What I want to do now is to move the user folders to the internal drive, and use the external for backups. It seems that I can't use Migration Assistant because it only works when moving data from another Mac or another startup drive. I've looked around the forums and on the web, and the only thing I found was a post on TUAW in which the writer talked about eventually having to do this but without giving much info about how to do it (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/14/tuaw-tip-moving-your-home-folder-to-another-disk- or-moving-it).
Does anyone have any experience moving the user folders from an external drive to an internal drive, (or even just having a Mac recognize user folders on an external drive from another machine)?

Thanks, but that site doesn't have a clear answer.
Correct. As it clearly states, there are too many variables to have detailed solutions for every possible situation.
In the 'pink' box, which best matches my situation, the instructions begin with: "•You must be logged on to the account being moved...".
That's not clear at all. How do I log in to an account that doesn't exist yet? Connecting a hard disk that has a home folder to a new Mac doesn't allow me to 'log on' to that home folder's account, because it doesn't yet exist on the new Mac.
You may have to set up user accounts "from scratch." Then change the ownership and permissions on the old home folders so you can copy the contents of the sub-folders from the old home folders to the new ones.
If you're comfortable with permissions and Terminal, this may help: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20013630-263.html

  • Web Catalog - Item Lock Needs Attention

Hello, I am receiving an error in the web catalog (Item Lock Needs Attention). I tried to migrate about 22 files using the Catalog Manager, but it seems that the application placed a lock on the files.
When I try to delete the file from the front-end, I received this error in EM (Item Lock Needs Attention:) (Context: 0, code: QM3V3HLV), and (access denied for user to path /users/myusername).
I already tried stopping all the BI server components and restarting, but the error still persists.
    Any help is appreciated

Login to Catalog Manager >> root >> users >> and assign full control to 'myusername' on 'My Folder' and restart OPMN.

  • Creating Web Catalog for Picture Sale?

Hi Folks, I'm trying to figure out how to create a workflow. I'm able to create web catalogs well enough with watermarked images, but I'd like to be able to link the watermarked images to a paypal payment system and then to a download of unwatermarked images. I have WebAssist Digital FIle Pro to create the shopping cart backend, but what I'm missing is some way to export the images from aperture into a recognizable database with dynamic features.
Say i have image 1 2 and 3 and I want to put the image payment into a link for image 1, etc. First of all, Aperture seems to only output to html and not php. Second, I'm not sure there is any way to add links or item id's to a link in the Export to Web menu. I'm glad the program will add the watermarks, but I'm wondering what the proper workflow might be and am looking for ideas.
    Thanks...
    Jeff

I started to try and export, but I've only got FMPro 7 and I'm not sure it is capable of interfacing with a server database. The exporter calls for a local serverdatabase, and I'd also need it to be a MySql online db. I realize I could create one locally and then upload it, but it'd be nice to skip that step...
Any help on the procedure would be appreciated. What I could see in the db export was a choice of what size images and type to export. That is as far as I got... Since the links to the files would have to be relative to the online folders, I just wasn't sure how the export was going to fit....
It could be all there, I just didn't want to export another set of full size images for no reason...
    Thanks

  • Catalogs? Folders? Collections? vs. Aperture Projects

Forgive my denseness. I'm an Aperture user who is looking at Lightroom 4.
One of the features that I like best about Aperture is the very simple Project paradigm. I'm an advanced amateur (I don't market my stuff, but once in a while a publication will stumble across one of my pics and license it. Like this one <http://www.flickr.com/photos/primeval/5829530628/sizes/o/in/photostream/>, which appeared in a nature guide recently). I photograph a wide variety of things--from tiny creepy-crawlies to birds to architecture to astrophotography to garden-variety family snapshots.
TMI there. My point is that I like the uncluttered list of Projects in Aperture's left column; it could hardly be simpler. Projects: Arachnids. Chicago Astro-Imaging Seminar. Product photos for Mr. NNNN....
Catalogs? Folders? Collections? Which of these, if any, is the equivalent of Aperture's simple list of Projects?
This one little bit of info will get me off to a good start. Thanks!
    David Illig

    Thanks again for your time.
I'm not certain that we are working very differently from each other, you in LR and me in Aperture (and in LR if I decide to stay with it), but you have nonetheless added to my understanding of LR. The answer to your question is keywords. I will find all of my snow photos that way, if I want. But a Collection might save me a bit of time if I remember that our historic two-meter snowfall occurred in 2010—and I if I forget that I will probably have also forgotten how to make a photograph by that time and it won't matter. It seems to make sense for me to have Collections in addition to keywords for other singular or rare events—my trip to Chicago for a seminar at the Adler Planetarium on a particular astro-image processing application, for example—and, apparently, you do the same thing. The Collection is named Adler Trip and the photos also have the keywords Chicago, Adler, Planetarium, Pixinsight... It's just a matter of having more than one way of performing a task, I think.
I also have a smart collection (or the Aperture equivalent at this early stage of using Lightroom) of my five-star photos. I'm somewhat fickle, however, and I sometimes look at a five-star photo and decide it's not as good as I once thought, and I demote it.
I should also confess that I'm a browser and a dawdler. I have that luxury by virtue of being retired. If I'm looking for pics of the fascinating and beautiful spider Neoscona crucifera, for example, I might prefer to take a detour through my Arachnids Collection instead of using the keyword. One may stumble across half-forgotten treasures that way. That luxury derives from not having a client breathing down my neck waiting for a photo.
I'll bet that you don't have the keyword stung to identify individual wasps that have stung you while you were trying to photograph them .
    Many thanks,
    David

  • A simple question: Using the user-folders differently

    Hello,
I'm still getting started with my mac, that's why I have a pretty basic question:
There are these user-folders on every mac: Documents, Music, Pictures etc.
But since I sort my photos and videos by date, I often have pictures and videos in one single folder and don't want to seperate them in these user-folders pictures and movies.
That's why I'd like to create a new folder next to Documents, Music... called "Photo_Video" (or something like that) where I can put all my photos and videos in.
So, my first (stupid) question: Is it ok to create a new folder in /Users/NAME/_____ ? I'm asking this because the existing folders seem to be kind of special (system folders?). Sorry about this, but I want to get everything right.
My second question: Is there a downside of NOT using "Movies" and "Pictures" for my media? I've heard somewhere that these folders are in some way protected against external usage.
    Thank you!
    -Lemon17.

Yes, you can create folders inside your Home. The folders there are not terribly special, but the Finder does treat them as such by putting that badge on the folders.
If you have multiple users and want to keep the folders private, you'll need to change the user permissions on the folders you create. When you create a new folder, it inherits the permissions of the enclosing folder. Your Home is set to allow other users to see directly inside so that they can see your Public folder and so the Web server can see into the Sites folder.  Because of that, the new folder you create will allow others to see inside of it.
To change the permissions, select the new Folder and Get Info on it. The info window will open and the permissions are at the bottom. The list of permissions will have you as the owner and you will have read/write access. It will also have a group (I think Staff), and Everyone. Select any Groups (icon with two silhouettes) and delete them (- button). For Everyone, set it to No Access. If you are the only user and you don't share out folders over the network, then it isn't likely necessary to change the permissions.
I can't think of a downside of using other folders. The potential downside of not using iPhoto is you won't have the media browser to select photos from. But, that's not a really big deal if you can easily identify your photos in the file structure.

  • Catalog backup folders empty?

I'm recovering from a crashed hard drive. All of my image files are restored and in place, now I've reinstalled Lightroom 3. The problem is that when I go to my catalog backup folders, they are all empty. There are dozens of folders that look like backups from different dates, but each and every one of them is empty. How is that possible and is there any way that there could be a backed up catalog anywhere else? Thanks for any help!

You probably want the Lightroom user forums, not the Lightroom SDK forums.

  • 11g - Automatic Deployment of Web Catalog

    Hi,
I need a way of automatically deploying a new web catalog for OBIEE 11.1.1.5. Has anyone had any experience of doing this before and can offer some advice?
Presumably I'd need to 'lock and edit' the deployment, then copy in the new webcat files, then unlock again... all using a script.
    Answers on a postcard, please!
    Thanks.

    User,
I have plenty of thoughts on this and I'll point you in what I think to be the right direction.
I wrote a post, http://www.artofbi.com/index.php/2011/03/obiee-11g-patching-capabilities-fusion-middleware-enhancements/, which talks about some new command-line capabilities in OBIEE 11g. The one you want to look at is how to access the catalog manager's command line functionality which may be one of the only two solutions possible for your automation requirements.
1.) Locate the path of your catalog manager runcat.cmd as I highlight in the blog post. From a command-line prompt run the command, runcat -help to see the help menu for this executable. You will see there are functions for diff, creatPatch, applyPatch, etc. Take this as a starting point for your automation.
2.) The OBI Web Services (http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/e16364/methods.htm#CHDHEHAG) do provide a decent amount of web catalog interaction that could potential help you to automate some tasks but that depends on your full requirements which I don't know.
Outside of those two options you are probably looking at using the antiquated but still viable solution of opening up two web catalog managers and doing the do.
We crave points around here so if this was helpful or the correct answer please kindly award points.
    Cheers,
    Christian

  • Application Web Catalog on linux machines.

When tried to have Application Web Catalog on Linux machines like Cent-OS 6.3 and Ubuntu 12.04 thorugh firefox, It is asking for Silverlight to be installed. The Windows machines controlled by the same SCCM servers, are able to access the web catalog using
    Silverlight 5.0.
For firefox on Linux, the latest available Silverlight is 4.0. Web catalog is not working with this version of Silverlight.
Is there any work-around to have Application Web Catalog on Linux Machines?

As additional context, the design point for the Linux and UNIX capabilities in ConfigMgr is specifically for servers, not desktops.  Our thinking is that in a server-only scenario, user targeted policies don't really make any sense, and the
Application Catalog doesn't really make any sense, as there isn't a "user" logged in to the console to interact with the catalog.
If you have additional input on this topic, I'd be happy to hear it.  You can contact me offline at username mikelley with the usual "at" microsoft.com.

  • Copy user folders to DVDs

I want to make a backup copy of the user folders on my iMac prior to doing a serious re-arrangement of my Time Machine setup and some other changes.  Between my own user files, plus separate user folders for the kids' accounts, it would fill more than a single DVD.  My own user folder is more than a single DVD, so it's not really feasible to just do a plain copy from Finder directly to the disk.  How can I do this in OS X without having to go out and purchase some other software or hardware (no extra disk drives, please)?

I guess you have to split up your folders into DVD sizes. Maybe others can point you at a DVD/cataloguing application.
I use to do this and hated manually cataloging and managing folders, files, and DVDs. I switch to external HardDrives and it makes it so much easier. I know you said no extra disk drives, but for me it is the best solution. I save hours and hours of time and no more headaches and fiddling with DVDs and catalogue files. I just mount the hardrive and copy to it. I have 500GB drive in my iMac and I have two external hardrives that are copies. I can even boot the external harddrive copy if required.
