Web Form - Text

Hi,
In my workforce plan type I have an account member set as data type text. In the web form you can type anything to that member and it will store as a number in essbase which is great. In the other plan type for the same application, I just created another member as data type text, but when I try to type text into that member in the web form I am getting an error - invalid value. I can enter numbers just fine, but letters give an error.
The two members have the exact same properties, but one is in workforce and the other is in plan 1, that's the only difference. Anyone know why I can't enter letters into a member with data type text? Is there another setting on the web form that needs to be set?
Thanks,
dq

Hi,
I am not sure where you are going wrong because I can't replicate the issue, maybe it is around the evaluation orde as you need to set it for all the plan types you use.
I created a new account member against plan1 with a data type of text
I created another account member against workforce with a data type of text.
Set the evaluation order for account against plan1
Set the evaluation order for account against workforce
Created a form against plan1 and included the plan1 text account member
Creared a form against workforce and included the workforce text account member.
Both forms I could enter text against.
Cheers
John

• Retrieve text entered in web form

Somebody please offer some assistance here.
I've lost some important information entered into a web form and simply using the back button will not retrieve it. I'm hoping it can be retrieved through the cache or form value files somehow but I'm not familiar with these types of files so I'm coming up short.
Any idea how to retrieve it?

What is the unary operator (addition, subtraction, never, etc) on the member that represents your text measure? Is it possible that you're aggregating the numeric data in Essbase that is then referenced to derive the text data (from the Planning repository), and therefore the text measure is returning something at upper levels?
If that isn't helpful, you could potentially mask the cell using a data validation. Create a data validation that always evaluates to true, and black-out the one cell you don't want displayed. Not the best fix, but it will prevent the wierd characters from being displayed.
Hope this helps,

• BC Web Form check boxes running into text

How to fix alignment of BC web form.
check boxes running into text.
see screen shot

Anything that looks bad on a website can be fixed by CSS? The best bet for you is to edit the markup of that form with the checkboxes and add a class to those checkbox input elements... for instance a class of "form-checkbox" and then in your CSS file, include this CSS code:
.form-checkbox { margin-right: 5px; }
or even:
.form-checkbox { margin-right: 1em; }
That will put a margin to the right of your checkbox input elements either 5px wide or 1em wide (which is essentially one length of your font size).
If you don't know how to add/edit html markup to your form then you could try adding this CSS to your CSS file:
form input[type='checkbox'] { margin-right: 5px; }
or
form input[type='checkbox'] { margin-right: 1em; }
if you want to use EMs instead of pixels. I would highly recommend learning a bit more about CSS and HTML because it would save you time posting to these forums for these simple fixes. CSS styles your webpage's content and every web designer should know CSS and fix this issue pretty quickly. Muse is a good tool but unfortunately it doesn't teach you the underpinnings of the web which you'll need if you want to do any sort of customization outside of what Muse or other WYSIWYG tools.
Good luck. Let me know how it goes.

• Web Form Cell Text Length

We have web forms in HFM that users will export to Excel and then import back to HFM. We have modified settings in HFM to allow cell text length up to 8000 characters. However, when the users import the form back to HFM the cell text is truncated to only the first 70 characters. It is possible to enter the additional characters directly into HFM, but that defeats the purpose of exporting the forms to Excel. Is there another setting to allow the import to pass all the characters?

As per my knowledge if a cell text is larger then 70 characters in HFM and we export the form in EXCEL it gets truncated. Same is the case when we try uploading data form from EXCEL having cell text lager than 70 characters.
This a bug. Till now i have not received any solution for this.

• Import external text file into table in database using web form

I whant to import data from text delimited file located in os
into oracle table using web form.
I am using ORACLE DATABASE 8i, APPLICATION SERVER 9i
and ORACLE FORMS DEVELOPER AND FORMS SERVER 6i (Patch 2)
Is there anybody who know how can i do this?
Thank you!

WebUtil uploads the files as Binary - so yes you could have some issues if you have a Unix host - however, that would only mean that there is an extra character to trim off of the end of the line read by Text_io.

• Text invisible when typing in online web forms

Just recently when typing into text fields on web forms, my text is invisible. For example, I had a little trouble registering for this help service as I could not see what I was typing. The cursor is visible and moving, but no text is visible. This does not happen on my other browsers and didn't happen in Firefox until very recently. I notice however that this form I am currently typing in is ok; I guess it has different coding behind it.
Another problem that started around the same time - when I go back to previous page, it doesn't go back to last position but puts me back at the top of the page. Don't know if this is related.

This is more likely a font problem (missing or corrupted) then an encoding issue.
Try to disable the website fonts as a test and try a few different default (serif/sans-serif) fonts.
Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced ([ ] Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above)
If that works then you need to reinstall the corrupted font.

• How do I use the vector web forms??

I'm new to using vector graphics and need to know how to go about using these web forms using Illistrator to make it functional on a web site. I tried opening it with the Illustrator, Fireworks, but not sure how to get the white fields to actually work like a text field. Hotpot will only link to another page which I don't want. I want the user to be able to enter their email address or whatever info is required then be able to submit. Please help!

That graphic is for making a wireframe/design. It cannot offer any real form functionality.
To create a form with that appearance, you will need to wrestle with HTML, CSS, and your choice of scripting languages to process the input.

• How do I create a dependant drop down in a web form?

I am trying to add a web form to a web page that includes a dependant drop down menu. For example, I'd like there to be a drop down menu called "Interested Class" with three fields: "Tribe Fit", "Tribe Life" and "Tribe Core". When a user selects one of these fields ("Tribe Fit" for example), I want a new drop down menu to appear with the following choices: "7:00am", "12:30pm", "7:00pm".
I have attempted this here and as you can see it's not working at the moment. The time drop down fields should be hidden until an "Interested Class" has been selected.

I've placed my JS code in the HTML view of the actual web page as I noticed when I place it in the actual custom form it doesn't carry through to the page. I don't know if I'm placing my JS in the correct place though.
Here is a snippet of my code if it helps:

Can anyone please help explain to me how I can make this work? I am only a JS beginner - so please try to explain in simple terms if possible.
Thank you!
Nicole

This wont work, Needs to be a lot more then this and CSS to hide things rather then script hiding them.
Nicole, The times that are availible I gather differ depending on the type of the dropdown?
You do not need multiple time dropdowns.
Steps you need to do first on the form:
1. Ensure the custom form field dropdown for interested class exists.
2. Have custom dropdown with all the times that any of them can be. This is CSS hidden by default.
3. Also CSS hide all the options in the select as well in your CSS.
Next can you show what classes have what times as an example then can put the code more relevent to your example you can work off.
The code will follow along the lines of....
Dropdown On Change
If selected options is xxx class then
fade in option times dropdown
Show these otpion times
if selected option is zzz class then
fade in option times dropdown
show these times
More control as you need to work properly, only two dropdowns needed.

“I have been working with Owen Dawson for the past 7 years. During that time my swing has dramatically changed and improved. This has happened through Owen's drills and use of video. It is because of these techniques, that I understand how to hit good shots but just as importantly why I hit a shot poorly. I’m glad I’ve had the opportunity to work with Owen and would highly recommend him. ” Sam Young - Country Club of Maryland - 2009 Men's Club Champion

“Owen does two things particularly well, in my opinion. First, he is a master of recording technology, and it really helps me to see what I need correcting, and what the new move needs to be. Second, Owen knows what the best next step should be in your own journey to a better swing. I have taken one or two lessons from Owen each year for the last three or four years – one relatively small step at a time, and then worked on grooving that step. In that period, my index has dropped about 8 strokes, and in 2007 I won the Club’s “Most Improved Player” award. Kudos to Owen!”

• How to use single web form for multiple secure zone signup?

I have multiple secure zones in my website. I want to sell membership of secure zones to users of my website. I want, users signup for multiple secure zone of their choice and submit payment. Is it possible if can you please explain a bit or refer me to an doc about it.
Thanks a lot for your time,

I realize this isn't likely, but do you know of a way to allow the user to select the secure zone to be registered (e.g. from a list of multiple secure zones or entering ID of one sz into a text input) from within a single web form? I wonder if this can be passed in through a parameter in the action URL or through a special system field.
Thanks

• Is Minimal OPTIN no longer working in Web Forms ?

I cant seem to get the code to auto optin
I created a web form, which includes the newsletter checkbox for a newsletter email list. I hide that, and make sure it is checked, as we *** add &OPTIN=TRUE
Now the inline editor changes it to &OPTIN=TRUE and maybe that is my problem - no idea.
Here is the code

The problem is that, the subsrcibee does not get the optin email, which is good, but he is not subscribed either.

so I added &OPTIN=TRUE to catwebformform45938
so I had this catwebformform45938&OPTIN=TRUE
Which actually did subscribe them to the newsletter
However, they still got -
a) The landing page after subscription now shows
Campaign Newsletter Subscriptions
[Newsletter] - requires you to verify your subscription.
b) The email received now has the link in it.
I tried also adding it back to where I had it before, but then it went back to not being subscribed.
How can I get the landing page and email to understand they are subscribed and dont need reminder or the link.

• Value field in web form

Hi
I want to put a default value in a web form feild but when a user clicks the form field the value disappears to allow them to input their text.
How is this done? I tried adding value="text" but this make the value permanent and has to be deleted by the user before they can fill in the field.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks
Ken

I used this from StackOverflow...

Works nicely :-)
