Web packaged file on Intel Mac

Can some one please help, Ive got a training application
running in a web browser (Authorware 7) for both PC and Mac. The
Authoware lesson sends data out of Authoware via PostURL to a asp
page which then puts it into a access database. All works fine on
PC and on the old Macs powermac i think there called, but as soon
as i run the lessons on the new Intel Macs in Rosetta mode, i cant
get any data out of the lesson, it seems to block calling the url,
ive tried the Readurl command aswell.
It seems that Rosetta and the web player arnt playing nice
together.
Please Please help.

I think there's a known, and unresolved (and likely to remain
unresolved) issue with PostURL on a Mac. In fact, I'm kinda
surprised it
seems to work on a non-Intel Mac as this issue has been
around for a
long time.
This page:
http://www.adobe.com/support/authorware/releasenotes/5/releasenotes_5.htm#problems
indicates the issue is just with IE on the Mac (and for 5.2,
though I
don't doubt the issue remains with version 7).
So I'd recommend you make a simple test application that just
does a
PostURL to the ASP page and test it on both platforms. Does
it work on
the Mac and not the PC? If so, then the common workaround is
to
restructure the ASP page to accept 'GET' statements instead
of 'POST'
statements and use the Authorware ReadURL function instead. I
know
you've said you did, but I'd test both thoroughly as, if
neither works,
then you're pretty much out of luck unless you can use a
third-party
Xtra, like SecureNet
http://www.inm.com/products/snxauthorware/)

  • Copied files on Intel Mac don't open

How strange can it get? If I copy files via ethernet or key-chain stick to the new Intel Mac the files do not open. XPress docs and fonts just have a dark rectangular symbol with green type on it saying exec. They are ok if I burn them first on a CD and then copy them. Is their something I ought to know?
    Please help.

Unless the files are corrupt (possible when copied over a network albeit not entirely likely) you can try to reset the files back to their proper settings. For those who prefer to not use the Terminal, there is an application called batChmod that puts a GUI on the UNIX command for changing permissions although from my tests and past experiences, extensions play the vital role. I generally use the Terminal for this (and will explain more in detail later if people want to go that route/use it).
    - A document's default setting is Owner (Read/Write), Group (Read Only), Everyone (Read Only) or 644 in the Terminal.
    - 'Get Info' on the file and make sure that the proper extension is added to the file name. In Terminal, you can rename a file using the 'mv' command
(example, mv test mv test.rtf would append the .rtf to the file named test).
    - While in "Get Info" use the "Open with:" pop up/tab and see if your application appears as a potential. If not, use the 'Other..." option and manually locate it. If it is grayed out then the Finder/System doesn't consider it to be usuable.
    - Try dropping the modified document onto the application and see if it launches manually. Failing that, try opening the document from within the application.
    - failing that, try launching the application first so that the system is aware of its existence and then try opening the documents/assigning the default app to it via Get Info after. This happened to me initially with a new user who had their Word documents (.doc) opening in TextEdit despite Office being installed. Additionally, my experience with Mac OS X Server and managed applications for users showed that sometimes an application (particularly a third party app) would be interpreted by the Server/App management as a generic preference file and not be registered/implimented. Once I ran the application once on the server, Workgroup Manager and the app management setting recognized its existence and all was well. This is a long shot but anything is possible!

I would recommend you use Videolan's VLC Player, which has now been updated.
This is now Intel Mac compatible and can play many different file formats including ASF, WMV and WMA.

  • Troubles playing certain AVI files on Intel Mac

I have an Archos 604 WiFi and previously an Archos AV500. On my old PPC machines, the AVI files created by the Archos played just fine in Quicktime. However, I recently upgraded to all Intel-based Macs and I can no longer play the files. Here's the info for one of the files I can't play:
    Type: AVI
    Duration: 47'00"
    Video: [MPG4], Resolution: 640x480
    Bitrate: 1516kb/s, 29FPS
    Audio: [ADPCM], 257kb/s, 32000Hz, Stereo
I have the latest Divx 6 and Flip4Mac codecs installed. The only thing I don't have is 3ivx which doesn't have an Intel version available currently.
When I attempted to play one of these files, the video seems OK, but the audio is nothing but a little static for the first few seconds and then nothing is audible.
I also have the latest MPlayer 2 and VLC and I'm not getting any better results with those players.
Any idea what codec for Quicktime I can try? I haven't tried Perian yet, but it's on my To-Do list for tonight. If there's nothing I can use until 3ivx 5.0 is released, is there an easy Windows application I can run in Parallels to reencode the audio to MP3 or AAC or something else that'll work with Qt/Divx/Flip4Mac?
    Thanks
    Curt
    20" iMac 2.16GHz Core 2 Duo/2.0GB; MacBook 2.0GHz/2GB; Mac Mini 1.5GHz/512MB   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   2 Airport Expresses; 2 iPod Nanos

After installing Perian, VLC all of the sudden started playing one of the files corrected while the remainder still had no sound. MPlayer2 worked better but still didn't play everything. Not sure why those 2 apps would work better after installing a QT plugin, though???

  • Sharing files on Intel mac

Does anyone know if there is a way i can share files between my macbook pro and my windows partition? I used boot camp and put windows on my computer too. I want to be able to use my music and movies on both the mac and the windows side. Is there a way to do it? Thank you!

If you format the Windows partiton with FAT32 (max 32GB).
Mac OS X will read and write to your Windows partition in that format only
If you use NTFS Mac OS can read it but not write files to it or rename it.

  • File Object Unable to select Mac OS package file

    Hi,
I'm trying to select a Mac OS package file using either the
File object 'browseForDirectory' or 'browseForOpen' methods,
whichever method I choose doesn't work and the packages appear
greyed out in the finder and are not selectable.
On Mac OS, directories can be designated as packages and show
up in the Mac OS Finder as a single file rather than as a
    directory.
Does anyone know whether this is a known bug, and if so are
    there any workarounds.
I can hardcode the path to a package and then process all the
files within, however I need for the end user to be able to select
    the package.
    Thanks,
    Mike

  • Is there a way to find old PowerMac files on my Intel Mac?

I'm running into some problems here and there where things freeze up, kernel panic, stuff like that -- on my new March 2009 Intel 8-core Mac. I'm wondering if I have some old PowerPC files or preferences buried in folders somewhere that could be causing the problem.
My question is: is there a program out there, or a built-in way, to scan my Intel Mac for PowerPC files, preferences, etc., so that I can find and delete them?
    Kirby

Well, sure, but I doubt this is the source of your problem.
Anyway, if you run System Profiler, select Software, and then look at "Applications" "Extensions" and "Frameworks" you can see which items are PowerPC, Universal, or Intel, and which are 64 bit.
I strongly recommend you do not go deleting any items willy-nilly as a form of troubleshooting. The chances you will cause more harm than good are virtually guaranteed.
Also, preference files are not PowerPC or Intel. They are just files. Only executable code is built for a specific processor.

  • Intel Macs and .exe files

I have a modem I got from Verizon for use with Verizon DSL. A check at the site of the modem's manufacturer reveals that this modem was made exclusively for Verizon and there are no links to support, etc., for the modem at the manufacturer's website (Westell Versalink 327).
On the DSLReports site, I learned that newer software for my modem is available and that I ought to install it. Of course, it is available only as a .exe file, which I have downloaded to my Mac.
My wife has an Intel Mac. We have never used it in anything but its Mac mode and I am clueless as to whether it is possible, without buying and installing Windows Whatever on that computer, to boot it up in the "other" system, attach the router modem, and run that .exe file and update the software on the modem?
Is there any easy way to go about this or should I just forget about updating the modem software???
    Thanks,
    Bob

If the exe file is only a windows self-extracting zip archive (which is not uncommon), then the free Unarchiver (http://wakaba.c3.cx/s/apps/unarchiver.html) will open it on your Mac.
Otherwise, there are other solutions without the purchase of a Windows license, you can run many windows programs with Crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/) which does not require you to install windows, but still costs $59.99.
I guess the easiest way is just ask a friend who has Windows.

  • QT not playing sound for MPEG1 files on my Intel Mac

My QT Pro (latest version, automatically updated regularly) on my new Intel iMac will play the video of MPEG1 files, but no longer plays their audio. The same MPEG1 files play fine on my "Wintel" machine at work using QT for Windows 7.0.4 (the non-Pro version). QT still plays AVI and MOVs fine. Is there a known bug with the Intel version of QT?
The last time I played an MPEG with no problems was on my older G4 Mac, just before purchasing the Intel Mac one month ago. I performed the software migration from old to new Mac using the Apple's Migration Assistant, then Software Update fetched and installed the newest version of QT. I haven't tried reinstalling an older version of QT yet. I was hoping to find some insight here before doing so.

  • URL Mapping for packaged JSP's in web.xml file

              Hi,
I am using weblogic6.0sp2 enterprise edition.I have my JSP's in package structure.
Suppose my login.jsp is in package com.advice.document. So for URL mapping in
web.xml what should be given so that by giving that my JSP runs. I have tried
many options but not got success.
              Here is my web.xml file..

              <servlet>
              <servlet-name> Login </servlet-name>
              <jsp-file> com\advice\document\login.jsp</jsp-file>

If any body knows or have worked on the same then let me know.
              Thanks in advance.

Did you try specifying the jsp-file with forward slashes (e.g.,
              com/advice/document/login.jsp)?

  • Trying to load pre-2006 lso files into Logic 8 on my new intel Mac Pro

I'm trying to load pre-2006 lso files into Logic 8 on my new intel Mac Pro, but they crash the app every time. files saved 2006 and later load OK. Anybody shed any light on this or know of a fix (other than the laborious work-around of re-saving all early lso's in logic 8 on the PPC and physically moving them via a portable drive to the new machine)?
(BTW, those files also crash the Logic 7 installed on the intel Mac.)

Upon further work with my migration, I find I was incorrect in the time frame assertion of these failed files: apparently, the creation/modification dates have nothing to do with it and the reality is that some files fail at random, while others load just fine. right now it looks to be about 50/50 Beats me why this is.
Anyway, for those interested, I've discovered a very helpful key to the quick processing of file data for a plethora of files (i. e. re-saving the "bad" lso files as Logic 8 projects on the older CPU and moving them over to my new machine), and that is the 'control key/launch' of the app. I hadn't realized that Apple had added this feature to Logic to enable easier work on multiple song files when one does not require the audio.
For those who don't know about it, the 'control key/launch' provides an option to disable the core audio at app start-up, thus allowing files to load instantly without loading the plug-in library files associated with tracks - great for copying MIDI data between song files, or in this case, re-saving a batch.
Still puzzled, though, as to why so many older lso files crash Logic when they attempt to load on my new CPU.

  • Difference in file handling on PowerPC macs and Intel macs

I have a Power PC mac at work and an intel mac at home. I've noticed that there is a difference in file handling between the two.
I cant pinpoint exactly what it is but has anyone else found this?

If your question is: Why is my work computer, which is over 7 years old, runs an old version of OS X (maybe leopard, maybe Tiger), with a now abandoned CPU architecture (PowerPC) different than my modern Mac Mini at home which runs Mountain Lion on an Intel CPU?  Then my answer would be:
Your work computer is over 7 years old.
It runs an very old version of OS X, which is NOT Mountain Lion.
It runs on a CPU known as PowerPC, which is not been used by Apple since 2006.
Your home computer is more modern.
It runs OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
It runs on an Intel CPU.
I can't pinpoint exactly what your question is, but I suspect that this information may help you answer it or in the alternative, ask it differently.

  • Other Web browsers for Intel Mac?

Has anyone tried using Explorer or Firefox (both NOT universal) on their Intel Mac through Rosetta? Does it work ok? Or does it slow things down, crash, or other problems?
Safari DOES NOT work well with ebay. I tried to sell an item on ebay and it wouldn't work. Ebay says Safari is the problem.
    Thanks in advance

IE 5 did work with ebay in Rosetta fine.
Says it won't be available for download on Mactopia after Jan 31.
I guess FireFox would be the next most reliable browser?

  • Sharing FCS files betw. Intel Mac and a G5 PowerPC

Does anyone have any experience sharing files between Intel portable MacBook/MacBook Pros and G5 PowerPCs?
Is it possible, and if so, can anyone share their experiences?
I'm asking because a friend wants to barter his PowerPC G5 and 23" monitor to me in exchange for some manhours editing his project, and I was thinking of taking it on as an extra editing FCS station, even though when I bought FCS (in June 2006) I began runnning it on an Intel portable.
Will my FCS discs install on it? And if so, will I be able to share project files between a PowerPC G5 and my portable?
Any anecdotes or dire warnings are greatly appreciated.

thanks very much for the clarification!
"not at the same time"? Not sure I follow. Do you mean a single FCS academic license can run on only two machines simultaneously? Or do I need a new license for each workstation?
What I'd like to do is continue running my copy of FCS1 Academic on my portable, and then install it on an additional machine (either the G5 or a MacBook Pro I'm planning to get next month), and edit between the two.
Again, thanks very much for the input.

  • Dreamweaver 8 on INtel Mac ftp problems????

The basic setup: I have an emac, installed Dreamweaver 8 (actually the entire studio package), it works fine. I want to move our webpage to a new imac (intel). I've copied the files, installed Dreamweaver 8, done the set up for the site.
The problem is: I can't get the FTP connection to work. Whether I'm in the SIte Management section, the TEST part, or trying to connect (with the little electric plug icon), I get this message...a file activity window opens, "An FTP error occured -- Cannot make connection to host. Dreaweaver could not connect because the serve is down or not accepting connections."
Things I've tried: I've explored diligently the Adobe/Dreamweaver website.
I've deleted the Files for Dreamweaver, the web site files from the local host, I've tested the connection using other FTP methods (safari -- a test suggested by Adobe or FEtch); I read some of the posts here after searching for Dreamweaver/Intel items. The server is not down since I've been able to connect an upload from another computer; the computer does perform FTP using other methods...which I suppose I can do...but it makes an extra step.
    I"ve tried using Passive FTP or not; I've tried everything I can think of...or suggested by outside sources (adobe, an instructor who teaches Dreamweaver, the Apple forums here); I modified the Hard drive name to eliminate spaces;
I've come to the conclusion it is more an "Apple" issue rather than a Dreamweaver issue.
I'm using the Dreamweaver on an emac and it works flawlessly!! But I need to use the emac for other purposes and set up the website on the Intel imac...
The Question: Any ideas or solutions or something to try????
Thanks for any help, suggestions, ideas. Cathy (working in an elementary school computer lab...)

Yes--I've tried the "test" ftp address suggested by Dreamweaver; I've used fetch to connect as well as upload something.
I've connected to the server from another computer....
Thanks for trying but...the server seems to be functioning okay.
