Web Programming Assignment #1 - Java
Due Date:
This assignment will be evaluated during class time during the week of February 7, 2003. Late submissions will lose points at a rate of 10% for each class day the assignment is late to a maximum of 30%; after which a grade of zero will be assigned.
Assignment Narrative:
You have been asked to produce a GUI interface, which will allow a person to draw a number of standard shapes and display a custom shape as well. The client wants the user to choose the shape to be drawn from a list box and have the shape displayed when the user presses a button. They also want the user to have some control over the size/positioning of the shape itself.
Assignment:
Write a program that uses a drop-down list box to display at least 4 different shapes (use a variety of shapes such that different parameters are required). It must also include one custom shape/drawing for which the parameters may be hard-coded (i.e. user input not required). Please write this program as an Applet. The interface must include at least one button, a drop-down list box and appropriate event handlers.
Marking Rubric:
10%     Program works to specification (0 or 10 marks for this, i.e. no part marks).
35%     Your code should be tested and free of both logic and syntax errors.
15%     An Array is used to compute each travelers ticket price.
10%     The User interface is functional, appropriate and easy to use.
10%     Variables are declared using the appropriate data type.
10%     All objects, variables, and other program elements are named appropriately.
10%     Code is well documented as to functionality, variables used, formulas used, etc.
100%     TOTAL

    I am trying to use and education program that needs Java applets and it will not run on Safari. IE will not install from the web. How do I get a browser that will work to install so I can use this program when I travel.

    Try using FireFox. IE will only run on a Mac if you run Windows on the Mac.
    Windows on Intel Macs
    There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
    You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • Can programs run from java that is on web browser

    i have written a program and used autorun to run when a cd is put on but not every body will have java on their computer a firend told me that most people will have java on the web browser that will be able to run the cd is this true or will i have to give download instructions to download jav first. this is obviously not ideal as i want people to be able to run the program by putting the cd in and nothing else.

    1. You can create a Java applet, which is a Java program that runs
    from a web page. It will need to be a signed applet. Your autorun will start the browser with the web page carrying the Java applet.
    I don't think this is optimal.
    2. Search for "embed JRE", which describes how you can supply your
    private JRE with your program. It does not install the JRE, nor does it
    care if one is already installed. I did this many times, there is no problem
    at all, but here I have no idea whatsoever what happens if your JRE originates from write protected media. I guess it should work. Experiment or wait for others to see what they think.

  • Invoking a AXIS Web Service with a Java object as input argument

    Hi
    I've been trying to execute a bpel process that invokes a web service deployed through axis.
    This web service takes a java object as input argument as opposed to data types that are directly mapped to java types through the SOAP engine.
    I deployed and tested the service outside of BPEL using a test client class. Everything works well.
    When I try to configure the "Assign" and "Invoke" activities so that service can be invoked, I cannot see the data structure through the variable picker and I see the following message:
    "The element {urn:ComplexTypeWebService}TimeSheetBean is not know to the schema container. Perhaps a schema file that uses it needs to include or import its definition.There mat also be an XML schema issue (non resolvable schema) which prevents {urn:ComplexTypeWebService}TimeSheetBean from being seen by the schema processor."
    Is there any example that demonstrates how to invoke an axis web service in such scenario? What am I doing wrong?
    Please, let me know.

    The passing of Java objects in and out of a web service is NOT supported. variables must be xml documents defined by a XML schema. In my opinion, missing Java object and WSDL is not a good idea. -Edwin

  • Web dynpro abap or java ?

    Hi All,
          Our client wants a web front end for the SAP system and has asked us to search which web dynpro ABAP or Java will be suitale ?
          They were of the opinion that web dynpro for ABAP is not that good for web interfaces is it correct ?Also is there demend for web dynpro developers in the market ?
    Thanks & Regards
    Gaurav Jain

    >They were of the opinion that web dynpro for ABAP is not that good for web interfaces is it correct ?
    What do you mean by Web Interfaces?  Web Dynpro ABAP and Java are well suited for created browser-based (or rich client based) business application User Interfaces.  If by Web Interfaces you mean Internet facing, highly customizable user interfaces - then no - neither web dynpro abap or java are really well suited for that situation.  WDA and WDJ are both designed to create consistent Business Application user interfaces.
    Now if you just want to compare WDA and WDJ - that is a very different question. The differences in capabilities are relatively minor. Generally it comes down to which programming language you have more of a skill set in and how close to the underlying data you need to be.  Also are you planning to extend existing SAP applications?  WDA is primarily used by SAP within the Business Suite (ERP, SRM, PLM, etc) - two exceptions however - WDJ is used in ESS/MSS (although newer portions of that solution are in WDA) and CRM uses BSP/CRMUI.  WDJ is used by the middleware components (Portal) and edge or composite applications.

  • What is SAP Web Programming?

    What does SAP Web Programming mean?
    Does this involve Jave integration in SAP?

    You can do web programming for SAP in most web technologies, both from SAP world and the "ordinary" world.
    From SAP: BSP, PDK, Java/ ABAP Webdynpro and integrations with other technology standards for web development
    Ordinary: Java connector (can be JSP/ J2EE), PHP integration etc.
    Hope that solves your question, Otto
    p.s.: for most (or all?) the mentioned technologies you can find the separate forum here on SDN

  • I need help finding a workable web program that is not CSS based.  I tried IWeb and it just won't work for me.  Way too limiting.  I've been using a 12 year old copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver, but the new Dreamweaver is CSS

    Been building web pages for nearly 20 years, starting with GoLive.  Went to Dreamweaver about 12 years ago, the Macromedia version.  Tried going to iWeb when it came with a new Mac, but found it way too limiting with it's CSS template base.   Unknowlingly, I then bought a new copy of Dreamweaver.   Ooops, Adobe had bought Macromedia and Dreamweaver, too, is now CSS based, which for my money makes it useless to anyone who likes simplicity.   Now I find that even iWeb has been discontinued.  I was told yesterday that Apple doesn't have a web program any more.   At 12 years old, I just don't think it's practical to try to load my old Macromedia Dreamweaver into the new Mountain Lion (I'm getting a new Mac), though it is running, barely, in Snow Leopard.
    I need to find a web builder program that will permit simple construction of educational pages, nothing fancy, nothing artistic, just create a page, give it a color, type or drag in text, insert a table, insert pix in the table blocks, add text under the pix... done!    I should note that I am not looking to build traffic.  I teach simple things for free and people who want to learn those things (antique sewing machine repair, quilting, building longbows) find me.
    I've downloaded trial versions of half a dozen or so programs and looked at maybe 20 more, but all are either CSS based and drive me insane with requirments for constantly making rules and template models, and/or require that you base your web presence in their server.   Also, many will not work with pages built in other programs.  I maintian a volume of over 1000 web pages, many requiring regular updating, and they have been with the same server for more than 15 years.  I'm not about to change.
    So, anybody know a simple, old fashioned web builder that's happpy on a Mac platform?
    Captain Dick

    Although not supported anymore, iWeb does still function using Mountain Lion...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/mountain-lion.html
    ... and you can purchase it from Amazon.
    Start with a blank page using the Black or WHite template.
    All modern websites use CSS and there are thousands of free templates to be had if you want to use a code entry style application. You will need to go this route if you want to create a site that is viewable on mobile devices although you can create an iPhone version using iWeb...

  • Assigning simple Java output to a Variable

    Is it possible to have a variable in a package that gets assigned a value from a call to core Java method so that I can use that variable across all interfaces in the package. Here's what I'd like to see (pseudo code)
    --Package execution start
    --Assing java.util.UUID.randomUUID().toString() to variable "UUID"
    --Run interface 1
    --map #UUID into a field
    -- Run interface 2
    -- map same #UUID value into a field
    -- End execution start
    Thanks,
    Michael

    yes it is possible. You have to create one odi procedure for this. Inside odi procedure take the technology as java beanshell and write the code like below.
    <@
    //java codes hoes here
    String java_v="Bhabani";
    //java codes hoes here
    @>
    Now drag this procedure into odi package. next drag another odi variable to odi package. In set mode assign the java variable to the odivariable as follows.
    <@=java_v@>
    Its done. You are reeady to use the odi variable everywhere you need in the same package.

  • Any difference in creating a web service from a java class or session bean?

    Hi,
    The JDeveloper tutorial at http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe1013jdev/10131/devdepandmanagingws/devdepandmanagingws.htm demonstrates creating a web service from a plain java class. I'm wondering:
    - Is it possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean instead of a java class? If so, what's the proper way to do this in JDeveloper? When I tried doing so in JDeveloper 10.1.3.0.4 (SU5) using the J2EE Web Service wizard, the wizard did not list the session bean in the Component To Publish dropdown (it does list any java classes available in the project). I can proceed by manually typing in the name of the session bean. After the wizard completes though, the @Stateless annotation that had been in my session bean class code is removed and replaced by a @WebService annotation. The end result is that it looks like it made no difference whether I had tried to create the web service from a session bean or plain java class as the annotations in the resulting web service code are the same (although if I had started from a session bean, the class for the web service still implements the Local/Remote EJB interface that the session bean originally implemented).
    - Assuming it's possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean, is there any advantage/disadvantage creating a web service from a java class vs a stateless session bean? I'm creating the web service from scratch so I also need to either build the java class or stateless session bean the web service would be based on from scratch too.
    Thanks for any ideas about this.

    Hi,
    EJB Session beans (EJB 3.0) are deployed as WebServices by annotating the class with @WebService and the methds with @WebMethod (both tags require you to add the JSR-181 library to your project (available in the JDeveloper list of libraries)). Unlike the J2E WebService, the EJB session bean service is turned into a WebService upon deployment. This means you obtain teh WSDL file after deployment
    - Assuming it's possible to create a web service from a stateless session bean, is there any advantage/disadvantage creating a web service from a java class vs a stateless session bean?
    The difference is that EJB Session bean based web services are integrated with the J2EE container, which means that they can leverage container services like transaction handling, data sources, security, JMS etc.

    Because you weren't told what to get, perhaps you already have it eh?
    What you want to read up about is JAX-WS, which is the webservice API bundled by default with your JDK (Java 6 and up). You'll find the wsimport tool in the bin directory of your JDK. I recommend you explore that directory and read up about all the executables you can find there, to be more prepared in the future. Know the tools you work with and all that. Most tools have a manual on this website:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/tech/index.html
    (under tools and utilities). Not wsimport, that is part of the jax-ws documentation. Better you look for jax-ws tutorials using Google, it will be quicker.

    Hello
    I created a simple Web service using JDevlper. It contains two methods
    1) getInf int () {

    2) void setInf (int a) {
    inf = a;}
    I have deployed it on Oracle Application server. By inserting the address in a browser, I tried both methods and it works correctly.
    Here I am looking how to invoke this web service using a java client and use the method setInf (5 ) / * for example * /.
    I search but I have not found an answer that works :(. I hope you could help me to solve this problem.
