Web Server Core dumps
We recently upgraded to SunOne 9.1 on x86. We kept our webserver on 6.0 but upgraded the plugin. We started experiencing frequent core dumps of our webserver. We decided to upgrade webserver to 7.0 hoping the problem would go away. However, we continue to see the core dumps. Every core dump I looked at had the same stack trace; eg)

Any ideas? Are there any known issues with the lbplugin?
My "solution" doesn't change your architecture at all.
Your web servers are showing a stack trace pointing to libpassthrough.so. This is a shared object that runs in the Web Server. I'm suggesting that rather than use an old libpassthrough.so that may (or may not) have problems, try using the built-in Reverse Proxy feature of Web Server. The Reverse Proxy feature is derived from the older libpassthrough.so, but has had many enhancements over the years. It IS a newer version of the load balancer shared object you are currently using.

Step by Step of how to Install and configure the Web Server Core 2008 R2
I encoutred a couple of problems installing a Web Server Core 2008 R2 edition including the remote connection and for people who are encountring the error :
"The WinRM client cannot complete the operation within the time specified" or the error : " Could not connect to the specified

so I decided to record and share this experience with you by producing the server core from A to Z to avoid the headache that I encountred
during my experience. The lab environment is vmware but you can use hyper v or even physical lab if you want as the steps are the

11g Native Web Services Core Dump ( qmuwsPrintPackWSDL() )
I know that native PL/SQL web services are newer functionality, but I have not been able to find any information on the following issue on MetaLink or here on the forums. When creating 11g native web services when attempting to retrieve the WSDL documents from the server the document is only partially served (estimated at about 2/3rds) or not at all (blank document returned).

Netscape Directory Server core dumps
Hi,
I have NDS version 5.1 running on Solaris 10. My software is querying the LDAP at around 10-15 requests/sec. The LDAP memory is runnig at around 50M. (I have around 900 entries in the LDAP tree). At some random instance of time, the LDAP memory shoots up from 50M to 3.2 GB when it goes out of memory and then restarts. My software has a LDAP connection pool to it and one of the threads goes OutOfmemory after the error.
The LDAP does a core dump during the process. From the analysis of the core dump, it seems that it is trying to access some memory which is not part of the LDAP process map.

Has anyone experienced similar problem before? I was trying to find the same in the forum but without any luck. This problem is happening quiet regularly.Seeems like content of register i1 got missed.. here is the content..

C++ Tux 6.4 server core dumping when throwing exception
We are having a problem inside a Tux 6.4 server written in C++ on a Solaris box.
Whenever an exception is thrown, the program dumps core. (The same program transformed
into a standalone C++ program functions normally.)
Has anyone else had similar problems??
Is there something that we need to do to avoid the problem??
Please email me responses and I will post a summary.

Don't know whether it could be the same problem, but using Tuxedo 6.5 /
Tru64, throwing any exception caused some strange message to occur (sth.
about locking) and the program abort.
After I prepared some test, BEA provided the patch which helped. -
Core dump when stop sun one web server 6.1 SP6
Hi all,
I install the sun one web server 6.1 sp6 and run as FastCGI mode. Each time i stop the web server, the "core" file is generated. The following is the steps which I setup the web server:
Server Path: /i03_01/SUNTest
1. Install Sun One Web Server 6.1 SP6
2. Install FastCGI library
3. Install php4.4.2
./configure prefix=/i03_01/php-fcgi enable-fastcgi
make
make install
4. copy the php binrary to /i03_01/SUNTest/bin
5. vi magnus.conf
Init fn=load-modules shlib="/i03_01/fastcgisp4/plugins/fastcgi/libfastcgi.so"
6. vi mime.types
type=magnus-internal/fastcgi exts=php
7. vi obj.conf
<Object name="default">
Service type="magnus-internal/fastcgi"
fn="responder-fastcgi"
app-path="/i03_01/SUNTest/bin/php"
max-procs="20"
app-env="PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=2"
app-env="PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUEST=1000"
restart-interval="60"
app-env="PHPRC=/i03_01/SUNTest/https-www/config"
</Object
8. Start the Web Server
9. Open the browser, run any php programs. (the php process will be created at this time)
10. Stop the web server (* core file is generated at /i03_01/SUNTest/https-www/config)
Here are the error logs:

Any one can help me?
Thanks.This has been fixed. But the plugin whch contains the fix (as part of Web Server 6.1) is not available for download yet.
Meanwhile, you can try using the FastCGI plugin bundled with Web Server 7.0 Techonology Preview ( http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=446518d5 ) -
XMLType table Core Dump using CLOB
I've created an object based XMLType table based on a valid XML Schema. The Schema has an element which has been declared as a CLOB.
<xs:element name="complete_entry" xdb:SQLType="CLOB" xdb:SQLName="complete_entry"/>
This registers ok with Oracle and the object that this element is in shows the element as a CLOB as expected.
However when performing a insert into this table, SQLPlus gives and end-of-communication error and the server core dumps.
A PL/SQL function retreives an XML file from the file system for insert, here is the code for the function:
create or replace function getClobDocument(
filename in varchar2,
charset in varchar2 default NULL)
return CLOB deterministic
is
file bfile := bfilename('DIR',filename);
charContent CLOB := ' ';
targetFile bfile;
lang_ctx number := DBMS_LOB.default_lang_ctx;
charset_id number := 0;
src_offset number := 1 ;
dst_offset number := 1 ;
warning number;
begin
if charset is not null then
charset_id := NLS_CHARSET_ID(charset);
end if;
targetFile := file;
DBMS_LOB.fileopen(targetFile, DBMS_LOB.file_readonly);
DBMS_LOB.LOADCLOBFROMFILE(charContent, targetFile,
DBMS_LOB.getLength(targetFile), src_offset, dst_offset,
charset_id, lang_ctx,warning);
DBMS_LOB.fileclose(targetFile);
return charContent;
end;
The function is called like so:
INSERT INTO boss_contracts
VALUES(XMLTYPE(getCLOBDocument('contract_82.xml','UTF8')));
This works perfectly when the element is declared as a string and Oracle converts it to a varchar2(4000), but core dumps when it is a CLOB.
I need this element to be able to handle more than 4k of data.
please help,
Paul Linney

Error message upgrading Sun One Web Server
We currently use Sun One Web Server SP 4. I have a RSA Cleartrust Agent to install that specifies SP 5. I downloaded SP 7. When I try to install it I receive the following message - "A previous release of the Web Server has been detected in the server root. Please select a different server root." I tried stoppping all the services, then installing, same result. The documentation says to run the install, it would detect the previous version and install. Do I have to uninstall the previous version? I do not want to do that. Thanks in advance.

Sun ONE Web Server 6.1SP2 B04/07/2004 core dump enablement
What is the procedure to enable core dump for future analysis? Earlier versions code changes for magnus.conf does not seem to work!
What magnus.conf changes are you trying?
If its a non secure(no SSL) 6.1 web server running on solaris 8 or later the following coreadm settings should allow core dump creation:
# coreadm
global core file pattern:
init core file pattern: core.%p
global core dumps: disabled
per-process core dumps: enabled
global setid core dumps: disabled
per-process setid core dumps: enabled
global core dump logging: disabled
To set the coreadm options as shown above, refer to man pages of coreadm command.
Thanks

Cannot start BI server, cannot start cluster successfully, core dumped
Hi
I have the following configuration. The four machines are virtualized containers on solaris sparc
machine 1 - PS, java host, web logic
machine 2 - PS, java host, web logic
machine 3 - bi server, primary cluster controller, scheduler
machine 4 - bi server, secondary cluster controller, scheduler
However i dont need the scheduler and i have not configured them completely
I was able to successfully test on compete stack with no clustering and used only machines 1 and 3. I was able to login to the sample URL and see some graphs.
The problem started once i was trying the clustering. I looked at the admin docs and the installation and deployment guides and followed the instructions and carefully did the configuration.
I face multiple problems.
In single stack some time the BI server was randoly stopping itself for no reason after starting it. it was very random that i used to feel happy if it does not stop.
During clustering i was not able to start the cluster successfully at all. I did not want to worry about scheduler to start with and even the PS. I just wanted to connect to the BI server using the primary ccs and using the admin tool in the windows machine.
Today morning i tried to start the BI server and then there was a core dump in both the machines and then i am not even able to start the server at all. There was nothing in the log files and i dont know what to do.
The log files before the core dump as follows.

chaitanya kadaruall the four machines are four containers in a solaris server.
The problem was with the hosts file, there were not entries matching the ipaddress and the hotname.
After i fixed it now i have a stable BI servers and cluster controllers.

Report Server: RTF format on Solaris gives Core Dump
We have Report Server 6.0.8.11.2 on Solaris.
We are running reports thru URL and it is working fine for PDF and HTML. When we specify the desformat as RTF it gives Segmentation Fault Core dumped.
We have tried using rwcli60 thru command line and it gives the same error, while PDF and HTML format is fine.
Is there a patchset for Solaris for the same or are we missing on some parameter?
- TarunHi I am a beginner to solaris and am trying to install Sun ONE Application Server on the virtual machine which runs Solaris10 on X86. When I try to launch the executable bin file, i get a message saying Killed.
It seems like it is not initiating the executable. ANy comments would be appreciated
thanks

If anyone else is struggling with this installation, heres a workaround that
Got things going for me.
Redhat 6.0
Oracle 8.1.5
Webdb 2.2
The database was up and working fine. Not as many problems as earlier versions but there was still much grief getting it to work. Save yourself some time, dont charge ahead like I did, read the installation notes.
The installation of Webdb didnt go so well though. Sqlplus would core dump with segmentation fault when a connection to the local instance was attempted. I tried many things, install webdb to 8.1.5 , apply glibc patch, apply 8.0.5 patches to webdb install none of this worked. The workaround I finally found was to use the 8.1.5 listener and the old formatting of a listener.ora and tnsnames.ora file. (i.e. like 7.3.x). Sqlplus would then connect via tcp. Installation still had another problem I could never get past the sys password confirmation. I could connect from the command line with sqlplus s /nolog @passwd.sql sys/mypass@mytnsname but the installer just wouldnt work. An edit of the installation_dir ->webdb-2.2/owa40/owa40.vrf file did the trick. Hard code a location to a dummy pass.sys file.
After many frustrating hours 160 or so - I think I finally have a working database and a working webdb web site. Hope this info might help others.

nullo Did you end up with 8.1.5 and WebDB2.2 in different Oracle_homes?
Yes - product/8.1.5
- product/8.0.5
o What do you mean that you used the 8.1.5 listener? My database is 8.1.5 so the tnslistener I'm using is from the 8.1.5 install - not the 8.0.5 version.
o Can you send a sample of the tnsnames.ora file that you used?
Sure - make sure you set TNS_ADMIN
# Filename: Listener.ora
LISTENER =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS= (PROTOCOL= TCP)(Host= 139.142.231.213)(Port= 1521))

# Filename: Tnsnames.ora

I am using Communicator Pro with Enterprise Calendaring, Calendar client 4.6,
and when I attempt to launch it I immediately get a core dump and it does not
launch.
<P>
The 4.6 motif client is not able to run against the 4.0 Calendar Server.
It is strongly recommended that you use the 4.61 motif Calendar client (bundled with the 4.7
Communicator Pro release) or 4.51/4.52 against Calendar Server 4.0. There are
known problems when going offline while using the 4.5 client on any platform
against the 4.0 Server. Both the 4.51 Windows and the 4.52 motif clients have
repaired this problem.You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

- TarunHiya,

Core dump are creates even though my server does not crash
I am having an issue with a large number of core dump files getting generated by jrockit that occupies the disk space daily almost 8 files are generated of size 150 to 800 MB
However, what amazes me is that the weblogic server does not crash
I have also checked the logs there where certain errors but not something that could crash my servers and the weblogic server was running all the time.
I know I can stop the generation of core dump files by using ulimit. But if I do so and if my Jrockit crashes It wont generate the core dump file that would be needed
My configuration is
a) WLS Version:10.3.2.0
b) OS Type: Oracle Solaris 10 on SPARC (64-bit)
c) JDK Vendor & Version: BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.6.5-32_o-121899-1.6.0_14-20091001-2106-solaris-sparcv9
Any help is greatly appreciated
As the files are taking up all the spaceDid you get a solution for this issue ? I have the same HD which works fine on two other Mac Book pros (Snow leopard and mountain Lion) but does not work on a brand new mac book pro with Mavericks
