Redhat 6.0 Webdb 2.2 Server 8.1.5 sqlplus core dump segmentation fault solution

If anyone else is struggling with this installation, heres a workaround that
Got things going for me.
Redhat 6.0
Oracle 8.1.5
Webdb 2.2
The database was up and working fine. Not as many problems as earlier versions but there was still much grief getting it to work. Save yourself some time, dont charge ahead like I did, read the installation notes.
The installation of Webdb didnt go so well though. Sqlplus would core dump with segmentation fault when a connection to the local instance was attempted. I tried many things, install webdb to 8.1.5 , apply glibc patch, apply 8.0.5 patches to webdb install none of this worked. The workaround I finally found was to use the 8.1.5 listener and the old formatting of a listener.ora and tnsnames.ora file. (i.e. like 7.3.x). Sqlplus would then connect via tcp. Installation still had another problem I could never get past the sys password confirmation. I could connect from the command line with sqlplus s /nolog @passwd.sql sys/mypass@mytnsname but the installer just wouldnt work. An edit of the installation_dir ->webdb-2.2/owa40/owa40.vrf file did the trick. Hard code a location to a dummy pass.sys file.
After many frustrating hours 160 or so - I think I finally have a working database and a working webdb web site. Hope this info might help others.

o Did you end up with 8.1.5 and WebDB2.2 in different Oracle_homes?
Yes - product/8.1.5
- product/8.0.5
o What do you mean that you used the 8.1.5 listener? My database is 8.1.5 so the tnslistener I'm using is from the 8.1.5 install - not the 8.0.5 version.
o Can you send a sample of the tnsnames.ora file that you used?
Sure - make sure you set TNS_ADMIN

  • Cannot start BI server, cannot start cluster successfully, core dumped

    Hi
I have the following configuration. The four machines are virtualized containers on solaris sparc
machine 1 - PS, java host, web logic
machine 2 - PS, java host, web logic
machine 3 - bi server, primary cluster controller, scheduler
machine 4 - bi server, secondary cluster controller, scheduler
However i dont need the scheduler and i have not configured them completely
I was able to successfully test on compete stack with no clustering and used only machines 1 and 3. I was able to login to the sample URL and see some graphs.
The problem started once i was trying the clustering. I looked at the admin docs and the installation and deployment guides and followed the instructions and carefully did the configuration.
    I face multiple problems.
In single stack some time the BI server was randoly stopping itself for no reason after starting it. it was very random that i used to feel happy if it does not stop.
During clustering i was not able to start the cluster successfully at all. I did not want to worry about scheduler to start with and even the PS. I just wanted to connect to the BI server using the primary ccs and using the admin tool in the windows machine.
Today morning i tried to start the BI server and then there was a core dump in both the machines and then i am not even able to start the server at all. There was nothing in the log files and i dont know what to do.
The log files before the core dump as follows.

all the four machines are four containers in a solaris server.
The problem was with the hosts file, there were not entries matching the ipaddress and the hotname.
After i fixed it now i have a stable BI servers and cluster controllers.
Now i configured the presentation services to connect to the BI servers but i am getting the following exception.

  • RedHat 6.0, WebDB 2.2, O81.5

Running RedHat 6.0. Oracle 8.1.5 seems to be running fine. Attempting to install WebDB 2.2 (separate ORACLE_HOME) and sqlplus core dumps. I know related issues have been posted before, but I am still stuck with this and can't find a detailed installation procedure to get this configuration running.
The compats RPMs are intalled. I've tried relinking with the glibc20 and I get several undefined symbols (sp pthread related).
    Any help appreciated.

Don't keep burning your install hours!!
The version of SQLPLUS and SQLLDR on the WebDB2.2 tarball seems to work only with certain versions of RedHat.
    I have
    RedHat 6.1
    Oracle 8.1.5
and now installing WebDB2.2 on a separate directory because the Oracle objects are of a different library level. You should end up sharing ORACLE_BASE band perhaps have the same group (say dba) but the userid should be different, and the ORACLE_HOME should be different.
Be glad to help you out some more if need be...
    Good Luck!

Putting the verbose flag in the start-up script seems to see if it gave any clue,
teh last class loaded was the weblogic.apache.xerces.utils.StringHasher .

    Thanks

Please read the Linux install notes for JDK 1.3.1.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/install-linux-sdk.html
    I'll paste the relevant parts:
    Known Problems
RedHat Linux 6.2 is the officially supported Linux platform for J2SDK 1.3.1.
Limited testing has been done on other Linux operating systems, and the
following are known problems on the non-supported platforms.
a.. If you use Red Hat Linux 7, we recommend version 7.1 rather than 7.0.
Limited testing has revealed problems when using J2SDK with Red Hat Linux
7.0, some of which are described below.
b.. The newer glibc-2.2.x libraries cannot correctly handle initial thread
stack sizes larger than 6 MB. This can cause a segmentation fault on come
Linux platforms that use the newer libraries. Such platforms include Red Hat
7.0, Mandrake 8.0, SuSe 7.2, and Debian 2.2. The problem will not occur on
Linux platforms that are using glibc-2.1.x such as Red Hat 6.1 and 6.2. It
will also not affect Red Hat 7.1 because it uses a different thread stack
layout. This problem is being tracked as bug 4466587.
Workaround - Use "ulimit -s 2048" in bash shell or "limit stacksize 2048"
in tcsh to limit the initial thread stack to 2 MB.
c.. When System.exit(int) is invoked on Red Hat 7.0, the program never
exits with a non-zero value. This problem is apparently due to a bug in the
exit function in libc.so library. To avoid this problem, use the supported
Red Hat release, version 6.2, or, if you want to use Red Hat 7, use version
    7.1 rather than 7.0.
d.. On RedHat Linux 7.0, if you want to use the Classic VM rather than one
of the Java HotSpot VMs in J2SDK 1.3.1, you must download and install
    glibc-2.2-9.i386.rpm file available at
    http://www.redhat.com/support/errata/RHBA-2000-079.html. Do not install the
i686 files available on that same web page, as those will prevent proper
functioning of the Java HotSpot VMs in J2SDK 1.3.1.
e.. If you use RedHat Linux 7 Server, you must manually install
compat-libstdc++-6.21-2.9.0.0.i386.rpm to prevent "error while loading
shared libraries" when using the Java HotSpot VMs. This file is located in
the /RedHat/RPMS directory on the RedHat Linux 7 CD-ROM. You may also obtain
a copy of this file from http://rpmfind.net. To install the file, use this
    command:
    rpm --install compat-libstdc++-6.21-2.9.0.0.i386.rpm
It is not necessary to manually install
compat-libstdc++-6.21-2.9.0.0.i386.rpm if you are using RedHat Linux 7
    Workstation.
f.. When using RedHat Linux versions other than 6.1, the font.properties
file may fail to display some Symbol/Dingbats characters properly on some
AWT components. To correct this, use this revised font.properties file to
    replace the one at <JAVA_HOME>/jre/lib/.
g.. Caldera OpenLinux uses version 2.1.2-3 of glibc. Because that version
is not greater than or equal to 2.1.2-11, the Java 2 SDK's rpm installer
will fail during its dependency check. We recommend that you obtain an
updated version of the glibc library available from Caldera at the following
    locations:
    ftp.caldera.com:/pub/updates/eDesktop/2.4/current/RPMS
    or
    ftp.caldera.com:/pub/updates/eServer/2.3/current/RPMS

  • Segmentation Fault in webdb/wdblsnr

    Please Help!
I've installed WebDB into an Server and Oracle 8i in anouther server.
    Linux : 2.2.13
    Webdb : 2.2
    Oracle : 8i EE (8.1.5)
    I have added
the appropriate 'webdb' alias in the tnsnames.ora file.
I start the WebDB Listener which starts and run fine, I can even go to
the gateway.htm and listener.htm pages through WebDB. However,
I run into a problem when going to the default WebDB HomePage
where a dialog box pops up to have you login as the webdb user.
I do this, and in a short while another dialog comes up and says
that the 'document contains no data'. It then proceeds to kill
all the 'wdblsnr' processes that were running in the background,
which causes a SEGMENTATION FAULT to occur in the session that
    the WebDB Listener was started.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks...

    Hi Prajithparan,
I have client server architecture means DBserver is running on one server and client in on other server, both of these servers are HP580 with dual core cpu and 6GB RAM. OS is RHEL4 with all updated patches.
I have created threads based on different condition. There is one Data Base class in that all the DB operation related fuctions are there. I am first picking the record from DB and after that i am updating the status by using primary key and loading to map (memory for further processing). After processing based on different condition, I am updating the database and clearing the memory.
Hope you can understang the code architecture.
    Thanks & Regards,

then will jump to a page (I don't know the exact path) in which
you will find the download also of the glibcpatch.tgz for
compatibility of 805 with glibc 2.1 (RH 6.0). Also you wiil have
to install the rpms from RH for the compatibility libraries.
I have just downloaded it and not tested. I'll let you know (or
you will let me know, perhaps, I go to bed know. Good night,

  • SQL Server Driver for Linux causes Segmentation Fault

    Hello,
I'm using the SQL Server Driver 11.0.1790 on Linux with mod_perl and Apache. While running fine with all my CLI Perl apps I occasionally get Segmentation Faults when using it from within mod_perl applications. Sometimes every other connect to the database
segfaults. I've created a core dump and did a stack backtrace:
    Loaded symbols for /usr/lib/../lib64/libxml2.so.2
Core was generated by `/usr/sbin/httpd2 -X'.
Program terminated with signal 11, Segmentation fault.

Can onebody help fixing this issue?
    Best regards,
    Stephan

    Hi Stephan,
This is a bug in the unixODBC Driver Manager 2.3.0.  Essentially, you can only have one HDBC per HENV.  The mod_perl must be creating the connections upon the same HENV.
The bug appears to be fixed in version 2.3.1 but we have not yet certified that out driver can work with 2.3.1.  See the 2.3.1 release notes at
http://www.unixodbc.org/ where the last item says:
"Driver version was not being held when a second connection was made to the driver"
The Driver Manager would "forget" that we are an ODBC V3 driver and try intereacting with us as an ODBC V2 driver for the second connection (which fails).
The workaround is to create a new HENV for each connection but I'm not sure if this is possible in mod_perl.

  • Using Calendar client version 4.6 on Unix to connect to Calendar Server 4.0, I get a core dump and the client does not launch

I am using Communicator Pro with Enterprise Calendaring, Calendar client 4.6,
and when I attempt to launch it I immediately get a core dump and it does not
    launch.
    <P>
The 4.6 motif client is not able to run against the 4.0 Calendar Server.
It is strongly recommended that you use the 4.61 motif Calendar client (bundled with the 4.7
Communicator Pro release) or 4.51/4.52 against Calendar Server 4.0. There are
known problems when going offline while using the 4.5 client on any platform
against the 4.0 Server. Both the 4.51 Windows and the 4.52 motif clients have
    repaired this problem.

You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • InDesign Server CS6 (MacOS) - JavaScripting & Troubleshooting "Bus error" or "Segmentation fault"

I'm attempting to convert a workflow from InDesign CS5.5 Desktop with AppleScript to InDesign Server CS6 with JavaScript. It seems most of our templates work fine but every now and then I run into one that seems to work properly but right after we export to PDF and JPG which is the final step in the script I get either a Bus error or a Segmentation fault error. The files do export and the console sits idle for a few seconds then I get the crash. It doesn't seem to give me anything else and I can't find a crash dump or core file anywhere on disk to examine.
The exact same input files on InDesign CS5.5 Desktop completing a very similar automation task via AppleScript work without an issue or error. I'm not certain if it's a problem with the way the InDesign files were put together, a version problem between a CS5.5 file and CS6, or something that I'm doing wrong in the script.
Is there a way to get InDesign Server to go into debug or verbose mode so that it will show more than just two word errors on crash?  I've read a few people talking here about the debug version but every path I've found to get access to the debug version runs into a roadblock with a bad link.
I would appreciate a point in the current right direction for how to debug these templates this script.

Re: verbose mode. These are not InDesign error messages. They are system errors, saying that an app (InDesign?) crashed, went away, hence could not issue any kind of message. Crash logs are the place to start. If they don't help, and the crash is outside your code, after that it's over to the maintainer (Adobe?)
Worth sharing a suitable crash log, as the list of routines active at the crash can narrow down issues.

After I have decompile and studied the com.day.cq.personalization.impl.TargetedContentManagerImpl Class.
I have notice that I will need to have the Campaigns folder created under the content tree("/content/campaigns")
Shouldn't the code handle the null case on line 321 of TargetedContentManagerImpl Class

  • Core dump are creates even though my server does not crash

I am having an issue with a large number of core dump files getting generated by jrockit that occupies the disk space daily almost 8 files are generated of size 150 to 800 MB
However, what amazes me is that the weblogic server does not crash
I have also checked the logs there where certain errors but not something that could crash my servers and the weblogic server was running all the time.
I know I can stop the generation of core dump files by using ulimit. But if I do so and if my Jrockit crashes It wont generate the core dump file that would be needed
    My configuration is
    a)     WLS Version:10.3.2.0
    b) OS Type: Oracle Solaris 10 on SPARC (64-bit)
    c) JDK Vendor & Version: BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.6.5-32_o-121899-1.6.0_14-20091001-2106-solaris-sparcv9
    Any help is greatly appreciated
As the files are taking up all the space

Did you get a solution for this issue ? I have the same HD which works fine on two other Mac Book pros (Snow leopard and mountain Lion) but does not work on a brand new mac book pro with Mavericks

  • Weblogic Core Dumps on Solaris with Hotspot Server VM

For Sun Microsystems SPARC with Solaris 2.7 the supported platform is
"SunSoft SDK 1.3.1 JavaTM 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build
1.3.1-b24) Java HotSpotTM Server VM (build 1.3.1-b24, mixed mode)"
We have set the MaxPermSize as specified below and are still receiving
periodic core dumps in a production environment. The most recent of which
is "Unexpected Signal : 11 occurred at PC=0xee4b5d00 Function
name=JVM_CurrentTimeMillis" a reported bug on Sun's bug parade (Bug Id
#4488864). Are there some other settings that we should try? Is there a
more stable VM we should be using like "SunSoft SDK 1.3.0 JavaTM 2 Runtime
Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.3.0) "?
    Help would be appreciated,
    Thanks
    Problems with JDK 1.3 crashing
If you have problems with OutOfMemory errors and the JVM crashing with JDK
1.3, try setting: -XX:MaxPermSize=128m. There is currently an open bug on
Sun's bug parade that describes this problem. See,
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4390238.html

FYI: Stability seems to have been achieved by setting:
    -XX:MaxNewSize=64m
    -XX:MaxPermSize=128m

Unfortunately we tried switching to client and we still periodically getthe
    core dumps.

I'd be interested to know this as well - so far the only stable option
that I know of is to use client JVM. Server Hotspot crashes, sooner
or later. 1.3.1-b24 server crashes as well, but not the client JVM.

    Hi all,
I install the sun one web server 6.1 sp6 and run as FastCGI mode. Each time i stop the web server, the "core" file is generated. The following is the steps which I setup the web server:
    Server Path: /i03_01/SUNTest
    1. Install Sun One Web Server 6.1 SP6
    2. Install FastCGI library
    3. Install php4.4.2
    ./configure prefix=/i03_01/php-fcgi enable-fastcgi
    make
    make install
    4. copy the php binrary to /i03_01/SUNTest/bin
    5. vi magnus.conf
    Init fn=load-modules shlib="/i03_01/fastcgisp4/plugins/fastcgi/libfastcgi.so"
    6. vi mime.types
    type=magnus-internal/fastcgi exts=php
    7. vi obj.conf
    <Object name="default">
    Service type="magnus-internal/fastcgi"
    fn="responder-fastcgi"
    app-path="/i03_01/SUNTest/bin/php"
    max-procs="20"
    app-env="PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=2"
    app-env="PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUEST=1000"
    restart-interval="60"
    app-env="PHPRC=/i03_01/SUNTest/https-www/config"
    </Object
    8. Start the Web Server
    9. Open the browser, run any php programs. (the php process will be created at this time)
    10. Stop the web server (* core file is generated at /i03_01/SUNTest/https-www/config)
    Here are the error logs:

    Any one can help me?
    Thanks.

This has been fixed. But the plugin whch contains the fix (as part of Web Server 6.1) is not available for download yet.
Meanwhile, you can try using the FastCGI plugin bundled with Web Server 7.0 Techonology Preview ( http://www.sun.com/download/products.xml?id=446518d5 )
