Web Service vs. Enterprise Service

Hi all,
what is the difference between this two things. I have built a web service on my own. But what is an enterprise service?
And what is the difference between the UDDI for web services and the ESR??
regards

God, these answers are killing SOA concepts
Registry is a UDDI based framework to hold a service specification if the services are build using web service technology.
A UDDI entity just represent the metadata of a service, it do not matter whether it is a specific type of services.
Even SAP support Systinet Enterprise registry, so you guys are telling me that Systinet only support enterprise service???.
Service is cataloged based on the service Taxonomy
Service taxonomy are in two type
1. Horizontal
2. Vertical
In horizontal taxonomy we categorize services as
1. Infrastructure services
2. Application Services
Infrastructure services are further divided into
1.     Utility services
2.     Communication Services
Application Services are further divided into
1.     Entity Services
2.     Activity Services
3.     Capability Services
4.     Process Services
A process service is composed of any of the other services in service taxonomy
In Vertical Taxonomy of services
We divide a business or organization’s major business process as followed
1.     Major processes
a.     Such as Product manufacturing
b.     Supply Chain
2.     Supporting Processes
a.     HR
b.     Banking
3.     Integration Process
a.     Business Services (in technical term  BPM, BPEL)
A business requirement such as
1. Order to Cash
Order Fulfillment etc are composed of business actions from major and supporting business process of an organization. It is connected using integration process in vertical taxonomy.
Integration Process do have nodes which can have same semantics as process service in horizontal taxonomy, this connect both taxonomy
If a service is based on vertical taxonomy and composed of horizontal services then it is called an enterprise service, cuz it address an enterprise wide concern
If a service is just for a supporting purpose and it is just based on any horizontal services it is not an enterprise service.
Finally what is service?
It is an entity which is designed based on SOA principles and have re-usability as the fundamental nature
What is web service?
It is just a technology used to implement services
Hope this answer clear
Finally, please do not try to learn SOA from just a tool perspective or a technology perspective
Thanks

  • Error creating service consumer enterprise service

    Hi,
I'm facing an error when creating a service consumer enterprise service using WSDL URL. I got the error message
'Exception occurred in communication framework:Error in HTTP Framework:404Not foundhttp://localhost:8000/?wsdl=wsdl0'
Does anyone have any idea of how may cause this problem ?
I've looked in existing foruns questions for a long time, and I didn't get any answer to my problem.
    I'll apreciate any help.
    Thanks,
    Paulo Sousa

    Hi,
The problem was in WSDL. It has an address 'http://localhost_8000/
They replace it by the address where the service is installed and i was able to create the service consumer.

  • How to call proxy service at enterprise service bus using flex

    Hi
I have a proxy service located at wso2 enterprise service bus. How can i call that proxy service using flex?
    Regards
    Minal

Hi Minal, I think you can communicate with wso2 using mx:HTTPService or mx:WebService, you just need to find out which services you'll be consuming and then create the flex app to present and interact with those services.

  • Realationship enterprise service - application/entity service

I read some books about ESA and CAF but I still don't know the relationship between enterprise services in ESA and application and entity services in the Netweaver DevStudio (CAS framework).
Are application/entity services also enterprise services? Or is there a difference?
    Thanks for your answers.
    Joachim

You can consume SAP Enterprise Services. You can also participate in the definition of the Enterprise Services  through the ES Community (see ES Community under Enterprise SOA in SDN) and even create your own Enterprise Services. You can use whatever web development tools you like. In Netweaver Java stack, you can use CAF to implement or develop Application Services (where business logic is coded) leveraging Entity Services taping into your local or remote data model(s). Enterprise Services can be modeled and coded in CAF Application Services but you can use plain J2EE as well. In SAP case, the interfaces for Enterprise Services are defined in XI (input/output/exception). Their implementation happen in the appropriate SAP solutions like ERP where business logic can execute against appropriate data.
Practically CAF Entity Services cannot be called Enterprise Services unless you want to. They just perform basic CRUD (create/read/update/delete) operations on an data object. They're more like utility services. But like Anton's mention of "Private Enterprise Services", what's private remains your own business!

  • Callable Objects (GP) with Enterprise Service.

    Hi,
    I have a question.
Is it possible, with a callable Object (GP), to obtain information on any budget, from ECC6, through a Web Service or Enterprise Service, provided by ECC6?
Is it possible, to modify and save the budget without using any bapi, but directly through an enterprise service, from ecc6?
    Thanks
    Regards
    David.

    Hi David,
If Enterprise Services for the underlying Business Objects ("Budgets" in ur case) already exists and you have the required enhancement pack, then definitely you can go ahead and use enterprise Services.
Otherwise, you can use the existing BAPIs and RFCs to modify the same business object (RFC, BAPI can be consumed from CAF).
And if you want your application to be SOA compliant. Then you can create new functions and expose them as web services, which can then be used from any other application to modify the business object.
    Hope this helps,
    Ashutosh

  • Settings for idempotent enterprise services in ECC

    Hi,
I want to use enterprise service ECC_GOODSMOVEMENTCRTRC1 / GoodsMovementERPCreateRequestConfirmation_In_V1 within a nonSAP application to post GoodsMovements at an ECC system.
    http://es-workplace.sap.com/socoview(bD1lbiZjPTAwMSZkPW1pbg==)/render.asp?packageid=DE0426DD9B0249F19515001A64D3F462&id=…
The service works and I can do all movement types I want.
Now I want to have idempotency activated at the ECC system.
But nobody of the ECC guys knows, what has to be done for this.
What transaction has to be used?
Is there a default value for the time frame for which the system keeps responses for already processed service calls?
If not, I would propose 100 days, because this is the worst case, the nonSAP application could send a message again.
Are 100 days to large for the idempotency time frame of an ECC system?
    Regards
    Roland

Now I have got readonly permission for transaction SPRO at the ECC system.
The path to the idempotency settings is:
SPRO -> SAP Reference IMG -> Cross-Application Components -> Processes and Tools for Enterprise Applications -> Enterprise Services -> General Settings for Enterprise Services -> Define Settings for Idempotent Services
Permission for transaction WSIDPADMIN is required to execute the activity "Define Settings for Idempotent Services". I don't have this.
But there is a good explanation in SPRO what has to be done in "Define Settings for Idempotent Services"
    Define Settings for Idempotent Services
    Use
Enterprise Services for which you need to ensure that every service call is executed precisely once are called idempotent services.
You use this IMG activity to define how long the system keeps stored response messages or details about query messages (the message IDs) for which responses have already been sent for synchronous Enterprise Services. You have to define this for each client in which you wish to use synchronous Enterprise Services.
In order not to burden the database by storing the response messages or message IDs unnecessarily long, the system schedules two background jobs to regularly delete stored response messages and message IDs:
    SAP_BC_IDP_WS_SWITCH_BD for response messages
    SAP_BC_IDP_WS_SWITCH_BDID for message IDs
The system uses table pairs to ensure that the response message or the ID of the answered query message is deleted as soon as possible once the set retention period has expired:
One table pair for each client for the response messages
One table pair for each client for the message IDs that have been stored
The two tables of a table pair are entered alternately. When switching from the first table to the second, the data in the first table is retained and that in the second table is deleted before the system generates new entries.
You decide how ofter the system switches back and forth between the tables of a table pair. The result is the minimum retention period for the stored data.
    Requirements
This function is available to you as of SAP NetWeaver 2004s SP09 and ECC SE 600 SP03.
    Activities
In the Document section, define the minimum retention period for the response messages. You do this by specifying how often you want the system to switch between the two tables.
In the Document ID section define the minimum retention period for the message IDs. You do this by specifying how often you want the system to switch between the two tables.
SAP recommends you define a longer retention period for the message IDs than for the response messages. Bear in mind that a repeated query message leads to an error if the corresponding response message has already been deleted but the message ID is still available.
To save what you have defined, choose Schedule.
Repeat steps 1 to 4 for all clients in which you wish to use Enterprise Services.
    Example
You have defined the time for switching between the two tables in which the response messages are stored as two hours. This means that the response messages are kept for at least two hours but for no more than four hours.
You have defined the time for switching between the two tables in which the message IDs are stored as one day. This means that the message IDs are kept for at least one day but for no more than two days.

  • Refer to Enterprise Services as Web Services

    Hi Experts,
Is the statement "Each Enterprise Service is also considered as a Web Service" true? I think I got the general distinction between ES and WS. As I understood ES are based upon the technological concept of WS with additional "features" - basically business semantic and governence rules. In my opinion that means that each ES can also be declined as WS (of course the other way around it's not valid). Or did I miss any point about ES that makes the statement not working?
    thanks for your answers

Just thought of sharing a few more points.
    1. All Enterprise Services are Web Services but the converse is not true.
    2. All enterprise services would lead from one consistent state to another. With Web Services, this may not always be true.
    3. An enterprise service provides one complete functionality and not a fuctionality step. Say we take updating of a Address details. Updating the door number and the street number could be different web services. However, these have to be together in an enterprise service.
    4. Enterprise Services provided by SAP go through an unique governance process called the PIC process. Web services need just design reviews.
    Maybe there are many more...

  • Difference between  a WEB service and a Enterprise Service?

Can Anybody explain me the difference between  a WEB service and a Enterprise Service?

    Hi Anilkumar K Naidu ,
    Web service
A Web service is a self-contained, modularized functionality, which can be published, discovered, and accessed across a network using open standards and which is supported by SAP NetWeaver. Web services cover services provision for integration within an enterprise as well as cross enterprises on top of any communication technology stack, whether asynchronous or synchronous, in any format.
Web Services in the NetWeaver framework play an important role in facilitating the integration of disparate applications from various departments or trading partners and thus increasing business productivity. This benefit allows small and medium businesses also to integrate their business applications with larger trading partners. The benefit derived from this seamless integration introduces security concerns when all the business logic is now being exposed through a standard interface that is a catalyst for security vulnerabilities. SAP Security Managers must use automated diagnostics tools to ensure that the security vulnerabilities are caught in pre-production and in post-production phase.

    Enterprise Service
    Enterprise Service-Oriented Architecture (Enterprise SOA)
Enterprise SOA is a blueprint for an adaptable, flexible, and open IT architecture for developing services-based, enterprise-scale business solutions. With SAP NetWeaver as a technical foundation, enterprise SOA moves IT architectures to higher levels of adaptability – and moves companies closer to the vision of real-time enterprises by elevating Web services to an enterprise level.
An enterprise service is typically a series of Web services combined with business logic that can be accessed and used repeatedly to support a particular business process. Aggregating Web services into business-level enterprise services provides a more meaningful foundation for the task of automating enterprise-scale business scenarios.

  • Calling Enterprise Services through xMII Web Service action block

    Hi All,
I'm calling some Enterprise Service through xMII Web Service action block.
After providing URL and user credentials, I'm getting error "SOAP Service could not be loaded: The element type 'p' must be terminated by the matching end-tag '</p>'."
Can anyone point out what might be the reason ?
    Thanks,
    Sumit

If you haven't already, try using the browser from the xMII server machine rather than your own (client).
The error that you recieve usually means that instead of a WSDL an HTML is being returned when you use the WebService action block.
Possible reasons - as Jeremy pointed out - improper credentials or some error with the webservice itself.
Another thing you can possibly try out - use some web service analyser to access the webservice . There's one that goes by the name StrikeIron which is a freeware.Pretty neat tool.

  • Error while invoking web services from Proxy services in OSB

I have a Proxy Service of message type in Oracel Service Bus 10gR3 and it passes the incoming messages from a JMS Queue to Business Service of Web Services type. This Web Service is hosted in Glass Fish v3 and it's binding style is RPC. The JRE used in both the servers are 1.6.0_20. The JMS message is of Text type. The Web Services at the Glass Fish throws MessageCreationException for any content of the JMS message. However, it works fine if Business Service's test client is invoked from the OSB'S Admin Console. However, the same will not work if Proxy Service's test client is called.
The detailed exception stack is given below :

Let me explain what I am trying to achieve. Our application receives data from multiple sources - from mainframe using FTP, JMS Queue and BPM application using Web Services. The data from all these sources are sending to a Web Service running in GlassFish V3. To handle this I have created three Proxy Services and one Business Service on OSB. The Business Service is of type Web Service using the same WSDL from the target Web Service.
The Proxy Services are configured as follows:
Proxy 1 (type - Messaging service) listens to the JMS Queue and receives JMS Text Message -> Business Service(B1) (Web Service).
Proxy 2 (type - Messaging service Polls files from the FTP Server -> Business Service(B1) (Web Service).
Proxy 3 (type - Web service) is invoked by the BPM application and sends a String -> Business Service(B1) (Web Service).
All the Proxies route to the same Business Service - B1 which calls the Web Service in GlassFish. The only Proxy that works fine is Proxy 3 which is created using the same WSDL of the Web Service. In the other two proxies it thows the same exception in GlassFish as I mentioned before.
com.sun.xml.ws.protocol.soap.MessageCreationException: Couldn't create SOAP message due to exception: XML reader error: com.ctc.wstx.exc.WstxEOFException: Unexpected EOF in prolog at [row, col {unknown-source}]: [1,0] at com.sun.xml.ws.encoding.SOAPBindingCodec.decode(SOAPBindingCodec.java:359)
Is this configuration correct to achieve my requirements?
Once again thanks for the help.

  • Unable to test enterprise services in SAP SRM 7.0 EhP1

    Hi experts,
For my recent project, we have enabled "PI Independent Enterprise Services" business function in our SRM 7.01 EhP1 system. Hi Gaurav,
Thanks for responding. Yes, all the backend config are in place since I am able to successfully run an equivalent RFC (BBP_PD_SC_GETLIST) and another RFC named BBP_PD_SC_GETDETAIL from SE37. The problem seems to be something very specific to the ES. May I request you to run this ES at your end (if possible) and let me know the result possibly with the input and output message similar to the one I pasted in the origincal question.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nilay

  • How to consume an ABAP Enterprise Service in JAVA

    Dear colleagues:
I'm kind of confused and need your help.
I have already created a Enterpricse Service (for test) in SE80 and configured it through SOAMANAGER.
    Question1:
Here is the WSDL URL I got from SOAMANAGER:
    http://ldcihri.wdf.sap.corp:50000/sap/bc/srt/wsdl/flv_10002A111AD1/srvc_url/sap/bc/srt/rfc/sap/z_ws2/000/z_ws2/z_binding?sap-client=000
And here is the WSDL URL I got from SE80:
    http://ldcihri.wdf.sap.corp:50000/sap/bc/srt/wsdl/flv_10002P111AD1/sdef_url/Z_WS2?sap-client=000:
The XML file I got from the two URL are different, the former is bigger.
Which URL should I use? thanks.
    Question2:
I have tested the 2 WSDL URL through Online SOAP Client - WSDLBrowser.com
But both URL failed the test.
I test the same URL in SOAMANAGER-TOOLS-WSDL Analyzer.
    Both URL were OK.
Any idea? Is it because the authorization? I need to input user name and password for WSDL Analyzer.
    Question3:
I'd like to consume the web service in JAVA.
Is it possible to consume the service in Eclipse IDE?
(I have tried several times by creating Web Service Client using the WSDL but it always say that the WSDL is invalid.
Or I have to consume the Enterprise Service in NetWeaver Develop Studio?

    In addition.
I have already activate the web service.

  • Consume Enterprise Services in Java Application

    Hey guys,
I'm very new in this field, maybe you can help me how to start....
I want to call Enterprise Services (asynchronous, provided by SAP) from an external java application. Therefore I want to configure a integration scenario between two business systems: java application (consumer) and sap application system (service provider). Maybe you can help me to answer the following questions.
    1) What kind of adapter I have to use in communication channels?
    2) Have I to define outbound/inbound interfaces for Communication Component "sender" (business system: java application)?
    2) How does the communication between the java application and IS work? What kind of API I have to use - some kind of advanced adapter engine ... JCO, JCA ???
Is there any demo scenario from sap? Please help me to start
    Kind regards,
    Christian

    Hello,
problem is you are using wsimport on web-service which uses RPC/encoding. Wsimport use JAX-WS so it is not able read it.
    You should wscompile.bat instead it.
    Here is example :
    wscompile.bat -gen:client -d build/classes -s src -keep config.xml
(-gen:client -says to generate classes for client
-d - directory where to store classes
-s - directory where to store sources
-keep - to keep source file
    xml file
    Where config.xml looks like
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <configuration
    xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/jax-rpc/ri/config">
    <wsdl location=
    "http://something/yourws?wsdl"
    packageName="org.your.package.client"/>
    </configuration>
    I hope it will help.
    best regards

    Hello,
It looks like there is a syntax issue in your web service definition. Please correct this (SE80) and reactivate the service definition.
    Thanks,
    Venu
