Web Services - "Primary" Flag on Contact View in Accounts sub object.

With our contacts, they sometimes are attached to more than one account. As a result, they have more than one Account. When this happens, there is a column called "Primary" that either has a checked checkbox or nothing. When we are consuming contacts via web services, the pull brings everything down, for example, if one contact is attached to 2 of more Accounts, both will be pulled in. We would only like the "Primary" Account, or the Account which the contact "belongs to" brought in to our pull.
Has anyone been able to make this work or developed a work around?

Web Services Not Working because wwv_flow_collections view is empty

I followed this example to try and get a web service running in my Application:

When I run the page and enter the zip code 43221 they recommend with a radius of 5, I get no results. When debugging and throwing the query into SQL Dev, I have no records in my wwv_flow_collections view. Looking at the tables that comprise the view, wwv_flow_collections$ and wwv_flow_collection_members$, these two tables would join on c.id = m.collection_id alone, but there are additional in-line selects involving the DUAL table that make the query return 0 records and therefore the view is empty. I've never messed with these views/tables, are these auto-populated by APEX? Can they be updated? Right now I cannot get any web services to work because of this. Here is the from clause for the wwv_flow_collections view:

I have been working this week to set up the exact same thing and got the same empty result set that you have. In this case I believe it has nothing to do with APEX. I downloaded soapUI 4.0.1 which tests web services and used the WSDL described in the APEX Webservices tutorial for http://www.ignyte.com/webservices/ignyte.whatsshowing.webservice/moviefunctions.asmx?wsdl to create the same sample requests. It also returns no results.
So, I decided to use a different public WSDL and try to get it working. Here are my steps taken below:
BACKGROUND:
- I am using APEX 4.0 on an 11gR2 database, with ACLS set up for the APEX schema this app is using.
- First off, the site I used I just found through google. It is a currency conversion rate webservice. It is explained here: http://www.webservicex.net/CurrencyConvertor.asmx
- The WSDL is found here: http://www.webservicex.net/CurrencyConvertor.asmx?WSDL
SETTING UP THE WEBSERVICE:
1. In a new APEX application I went to "*Shared Components*" -> "*Web Service References*" -> "*Create*" to create a new web service reference
2. Selected manual
3. Called the webservice CURRENCY_TEST
4. Set the URL to http://www.webservicex.net/CurrencyConvertor.asmx
5. Set the Action to http://www.webserviceX.NET/ConversionRate (Action can be found in the WSDL - showing a few lines below)

12. On the test page, change #FROM_CURRENCY# to USD (for US dollars) and #TO_CURRENCY# to EUR (Euros)
13. Click the test button and you should see a valid soap response with a currency rate within the ConversionRateResult tags
USING THE WEBSERVICE AND GETTING RESULTS:
1. Went back to the application and hit "*Create Page*" -> "*Form*" -> "*Form and Report on Web Service*"
2. Selected my CURRENCY_TEST web service reference
3. Next on the next page
4. For input parameters, left the defaults to create 2 inputs, From_Currency and To_Currency
5. Soap Style for this is Document (found in the WSDL as an attribute just after the soapAction attribute in the WSDL snippet above)
6. Message Format is Literal (Also found above in the wsdl:output for this operation under the use attribute)
7. XPATH is a bit complicated. In this case put */ConversionRateResponse* (I used the soapUI 4.0.1 to send the request and get back the soap response to see what the response tags would include and which path I'm going to)
8. Message Namespace is http://www.webserviceX.NET/ (which is also found in the response soap message - I'd really recommend a tool to test this outside of APEX)
9. For Parameter Names there is only one and it is ConversionRateResult (also found in the response soap message)
10. Finish and run the report.
OTHER GOTCHAS:
So I finally got this to work, but in my case I was querying a remedy webservice and the xml tags I get back are all xmlns:ns0 and all response tags prefaced with ns0:
In this case I had to after using the wizard go back and edit my query to change xmlns to xmlns:ns0 since the builder only assumes xmlns.

It seems that the MethodResultTableDataProvider does not return the response of the web service as a value field if the WSDL contains only one result element.

Oracle Support told me that I need this patches because of some other problem (generating wsdl and deploy for BOM_BO_PUB package does not work in my environment) and since that, the process_item call stopped working!

Web service proxy - how to use server side in/out objects

We have logic in oracle database. We have pl/sql api with oracle object types as in/out parameters. On server side we have pojo classes with method to convert from/to sql structs, arrays.
pl/sql apis are exposed as web services.
When I create web service proxy, all required pojo classes are created from wsdl on client side.
Currently we are also writting client part of the code(where we also have oracle database and we want to reuse server pojos). Server pojo classes are in separate jar file and used also on a client side.
Is it possible to tell jdeveloper when creating web service proxy, to not create client side pojos, exception classes, ... , but use those from jar file.
Currently I just copy server pojo over generated client ones, make some modifications and it works. But each time I regenerate web service proxy I have to do this step manually.

best is to wrap the generated WS proxy in a JavaBean. This way you can create the exception handling once and apply it to all uses of the WS proxy by overriding the generated code

I have a data table based on webservice (client and proxy). In this table I have status ID field, I would like to show the status ID description, I have also a LOV View (based on entity).
I try a lot things, but nothing work, could you please give an idea to show my status description in my data table for each line?

Error 5566 on Web Service

We have simple SharePoint 2010 Firm enthronement with one Front End, one SQL servers.
All our custom databases and web services are on second SQL server.
All our web based Info Path forms with web services suddenly stopped working with 5566 error.
The following query failed: xxxx Type: DataAdapterException, Exception Message: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. The remote
server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.) Data adapter failed during OnLoad: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized.
The web Service is not reaching the SQL Server, IIS logs end up with InfoPathDA instead of the user name.
First I checked

4. This issue occurs because of double-hop authentication. If you have two servers in your load-balancer and requests are not homed to the same server (i.e. instead of server1 requesting a web service from itself, it contacts server2 instead) then
it is unable to pass your user credentials on to the other server. If you force the server to talk to “itself”, then it is able to use your credentials successfully and return the results from the web service.
The obvious solution is to fix load-balancing, but a workaround is to use the hosts file located at (NOTE no file extension on this file!):
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts, and add an entry on each server pointing to itself.

For SharePoint 2010, by default, ULS log is at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS.

in I.E

Need some direction on developing a web service.

My requirement is to develop a web service and expose 8 Oracle views as methods that can be invoked that will give the data within those views in XML format.
What is the best approach in doing this?
I've tried developing a PLSLQ procedure and publishing it as a web service but see that there are limitations related in using a PLSQL record type as out variable
Not sure if I can do this by developing a BPEL process.

I used Fiddler to monitor the process, and it showed the request sent thru web service worked and returned a value, but in my .Net application the return captured as NULL. Could you please look into the code above and the result from Filddler and see if

Web Service with Crystal Reports

Hi,
I have a problem with the development of a Report Webservice.
I have read this tutorial:

The problem is that from the Visual Studio 2005 IDE there isn't the voice "Publish as Web Service" when i clik on the .rpt file in my Web Service project.
Im using Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50727.42 and full Crystal Reports Bundled.
Can someone help me?

I don't think you will be able to do this from the button. Reason is that the web service only works with the viewer and there is are no exposed export API associated with the viewer. The only export APIs are based off of the report document object.

Deployment Error due Web Service

Hi,
I try to create a WebService based on the JEE 5 Server. If I create a very simple WebService everything works quite well. But as soon as I try to create a more complex web service I receive a deployment error. The web service method contains a parameter that represents a data object. This DO contains two lists, that are accessible using getters and setters, the DO contains a standard constructor as well.

Can anyone help me? The deployment trace looks like there is a problem with the serialization framework. But my DO is totally Serializable, meaning all referencing interfaces and classes implement Serializable.

Hi Martin,
It's good that you have come to the cause of the problem by yourself. Yes, the Sun serialization framework does not support interfaces as web method parameters. This is "hidden" in the exception
com.sun.xml.bind.v2.runtime.IllegalAnnotationsException: 1 counts of IllegalAnnotationExceptions
I agree that it's not quite obvious from the exceptions in the Deploy View Console, however if you have had a look into the server log files (in <Install_Dir>/JP1/JC00/j2ee/cluster/server0/log) you would probably have found more detailed information about the root cause.
Regarding the second issue, this is exactly how the WebService specifications define the case. You are probably right to some extent in your assumption about the WebMethod annotation, but the specs seem to treat it in a bit different way. See Web Services. The bottom line is that all public methods except those annotated with @WebMethod(exclude=true) will be exposed as web service operations.

J2ME Web Services proxy

I try to register a web service with mobile studio,
(I use my account on studio.oraclemobile.com) so as to generate J2ME stub and run the service in proxy mode.
The problem is, whichever URL I put for wsdl files, I get "The URL you entered does not contain a valid WSDL file." The URLs are correct, I tried many of them, including all given in 9iAS Wireless 904 docs, like
http://www.xmethods.net/sd/2001/TemperatureService.wsdl
http://www.xmethods.net/sd/2001/FedExTrackerService.wsdl
as well as some others.
I can view these WSDL files in browser and can't understand why they would be invalid.
I wanted to check proxying feature with Mobile Studio first, then migrate it to a running 9iAS server - I have already tried Mobile Studio AND 9iAS, and both failed.
Is there something I do wrong?

I checked the HTTP header I receive when "manually" requesting WSDLs. No encoding is shown, so I guess it's default UTF-8, and content-type is text/xml. What else could possibly go wrong?
I also checked those WSDLs with a few validators (both online and offline like XMLSpy), documents were well-formed as well as valid.
Any hint why I still can't get it to work?
If there is a public available Web Service that you tried and know works well with Mobile Studio (or 9iAS),let me know the URL please.
I suppose there is no problem with URLs themselves as (1)I successfully registered a multichanell application in Mobile Studio fetching Simple XML from external URLs, (2)I can view those WSDLs as "plain" XMLs in IE6.0..

Export with crystal reports as web service

In order to create 3 tier architecture for security enhancments, I am using crystal feature to publish report as web service. As far displaying these reports on viewer is concerned, I have got that part working by setting the datasource to asmx and then using the viewer to set the parameters and logon information.
However currently I also have export button on the UI which basically used the ReportDocument and wrote the excel to Http stream. And this is the part where I am now struggling with crystal as web service as it does not expose ReportDocument. I have scanned all forums and have been googling for a while but reaching nowhere.
Please help if someone has already dealt with similar problem.

I don't think you will be able to do this from the button. Reason is that the web service only works with the viewer and there is are no exposed export API associated with the viewer. The only export APIs are based off of the report document object.

Parameter passing for custom web service reports

Hi,I created a report file and published it as a .Net web service. I was able to set the web service to a report viewer in my windows application. I am using Crystal Reports Version 11 R2 and Visual Studio 2005 for my development.ReportWebService service = new ReportWebService(); crystalReportViewer1.ReportSource = service;Now, my question is how do I pass a parameter from the windows application to the custom report web service. It does not seem to accept any paramters through constructors or other custom web methods.If I need to change my design or approach, I am welcome to that as long as I am able to host the report file on a central location. The .rpt file (exposed by the web service) does not have any parameters but the data population logic inside the web service might be based on some conditions which I need to pass as parameter.Thanks in advance.Regards, Gulzar

When using a Report Web Service, you must use the Viewer's SDK to interact with the report. So in your case, if you want to pass parameters to the report, the viewer exposes a ParameterFieldInfo property that you can set. You can download samples on how to do this or check out the <a href="http://devlibrary.businessobjects.com/BusinessObjectsXIR2SP2/en/devsuite.htm" target="_blank">DevLibrary</a> for more details.However, one of your last statements you said your report does not have any parameters but your web service does.....could you elaborate on that? Did you modify the .asmx that is autogenerated to add/modify the web service methods? If so, then you will not be able to pass parameters to the new/modified web service. The autogenerated web service for the report cannot be modified in this way since the viewer is designed to use the web services methods as-is. In other words, the viewer is the only client/consumer of the Report Web Service so any interaction you want with the report must be done through the viewer, if the viewer exposes the functionality. In general, because the viewer is the only supported consumer of the Report Web Service, there are many limitations to interacting with the report. Depending on how much control you want over the report at runtime, you may not want to use Report Web Services. If you want to centralize reports for a Windows application, your best option is to load the reports from a network share using a UNC path when loading the report. Of course, this assumes your application is running from some kind of internal network. Any other kind of solution to centralized reports would require a web-based solution.If you must use a Windows application, then you could host a IE control on your form that accesses a web page that displays reports but then you would have to develop and support a web application in addition to your windows application. It's not the best solution but it's an option! :-)-MJ
