Web_show.document and javascript window.close()

Since javascript call are not possible in web_show.document function with IE SP2 client, Is there a way to close browser in the same time than forms when running in separate frame?

In fact my first idea was to initialise a value inside the HTMLPostForm line but this one is executed when form is already closed so I cannot use this solution.
The onbeforeclose condition in the basejini.html does not work and onbeforeunload is activated when browser is closed or when there is a redirection.
I would like to fire the message if the users close the browser but not fire the message when the user close the forms (do a redirection to the close.html page).

Developer question. Upgraded to 6.0 - javascript:window.close() no longer works. Works OK in other browsers. Banners on popup windows also seem confusing.

Popup windows no longer close using javascript:window.close(). Have to click the "X" to close the popup.

I was able to fix the issue here. Steps Taken: From the comand line I ran
dscl /Search read /Users/jdoe HomeDirectory
It returned # No such key: HomeDirectory
This was the big clue.... it should have returned
HomeDirectory: <home_dir><url>afp://files.hihllc.lan/Users/jdoe</url><path>/</path></home_dir>
I unbound the Mac from AD and ran the following command in terminal.
dscacheutil -flushcache
I then went into OS X sharing preferences and renamed the computer slightly, so it would create a new computer record in AD. I rebound the machine to AD making sure in Directory Utility Advanced, under User Experience that Force local home directory on start up disk was unchecked and Network protocol to be used was AFP.
I then ran
dscl /Search read /Users/jdoe HomeDirectory
and it returned
HomeDirectory: <home_dir><url>afp://files.hihllc.lan/Users/jdoe</url><path>/</path></home_dir>
I had the user reboot... which was necessary. When he logged in HomeSync fired up. He had quite a few conflicts, so I told him to select use files on this computer for all conflicts.
I checked the FileSyncAgent.logs and it was good.

I assume that you mean that the iTunes window closes. Quit iTunes, reboot your PC and try again. The iTunes software might be corrupt and it may require reinstalling iTunes on your computer.

My Downloads Folder disappeared and when I found it in my user folder and tried to put it back in the Dock, it looks like a PDF Document and when I close its window it all disappears again. Help!

I need to know how to get my Download Folder's correct icon back.The folder disappeared and when I found it in my users folder, I dragged it down to the Dock and it turned into a PDF folder icon with a Vise X icon behind it. The icon looks correct in m user folder. I hope someone can help.

Google documents and sites windows will not load but web and email do.

I have tried every browser chrome, firefox, explorer, safari none of these will open google documents at my school although they were working a couple of weeks ago. What can I try?

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

If it does work in Firefox Safe-mode then disable all extensions (Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

I uploaded the newest version of Itunes and now Windows closes the program, is there a fix?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

Mail and Safari windows close abruptly

Recommended updates to Itunes, Quicktime player and Security patches were applied. After that, Mail and Safari are going crazy.
Any attempt to navigate using keyboard (eg. Tab) in form fill, or clicking on certain legitimate links is causing Safari to close down with no message whatsoever.
Simiar attempts to use keyboard to move up/down or attempt to reply or forward a mail from the mail main window is causing Mail to shut down with no message.
Can anyone help me?

Further diagonisis on this problem: It doesn't have to be keyboard operation. Even when I am using mouse to navigate, it is crashing (window closing down with no message whatsoever).
Very Very Very Very Very frustrating. Some immediate help needed please.

You are calling the script while the mouse button is still
down-- a
hijacking truck.
While it still works in older/unpatched IE, Microsoft has
disabled
resizeBy/To and moveBy/To while the mouse button is down.
Obviously, when
you have to click the Alert dialog's OK button, the mouse is
no longer down.
You'll need to take a different approach.

Problem with window.close and window.open

I am having two suspected Actionscript problems which only seem to be happening with Flash player 9 and later.
BACKGROUND:
I have a client who needs browser-launched swf files to play from a CD-ROM (I do not want to use the Flash projector). These files were created a few years ago using Actionscript 1 & 2 code and everything has worked perfectly until now.
Here is the setup:
First, an autorun file on the root of the CD runs and writes a 'trust file' to the 'Macromed' directory. The autorun next launches 'index.htm' which is simply an html page containing a series of links (topic1.htm; topic2.htm; and so on). Next, let's assume the student clicks the 'topic1.htm' link from the 'index.htm' page. The 'topic1.htm' link launches a web page (also located on the CD) which contains and displays 'topic1.swf'. So far, everything works fine.
Here is where the two problems happen.
Problem 1:
I have an 'Exit' button within each swf (remember each swf is contained inside an html page). The 'Exit' button has always worked properly, but suddenly does not work in Flash player 9. I am using the following Actionscript 2 code on the 'Exit' button:

The 'Exit' button has always worked using this code (and still works in Flash player 8 and lower). However, it does nothing when played using Flash player 9.
Problem 2:
There are links to html popup windows within the 'topic1.swf' file (remember 'topic1.swf' is contained inside 'topic1.htm'). Each popup window contains a swf file that is used to present a demonstration. When the student clicks the 'demo1.htm' link from 'topic1.swf', an html popup window SHOULD load and display 'demo1.swf' inside the 'demo1.htm' window. The main ('topic1.htm') window stays open so that the student can return to the topic after completing the demo. This has always worked properly until Flash player 9. Here is the Actionscript 2 code
which I am using on the button inside 'topic1.swf' to launch 'demo1.htm':

Closing the browser windows created by web.show_document and javascript

From Forms I am issuing a http request using web.show_document and javascript:window.open(). The http request makes a remote procedure call to a coldfusion component on a JRun appserver. I want this rpc to fire in the background so that the current forms browser window remains as is.
The logic is as follows

The http request works fine but leaves a browser window behind. It's the one created by the javascript.window.open(). If I remove the self.close() from the javascript then I have two browser windows open, one from web.show_document and the other, as described previously, from the window.open().
Any idea how I can force closure of the window opened by the window.open() ?

A work around is The only solution that is to create a close.html file and calling this file in the code: Web.show_document('http://server:port/close.html','_self');

Unable to use javascript to close existing window in jsp

Hi experts,
In my jsp, i've a code that prompt user to download the file (using response.setContentType) to their machine within a try and catch statement.
I would like my existing window browser to close immediately after the prompt to the user.
I tried using javascript window.close() but there isn't any effect. I even place my javascript code at the end of the jsp code but also no effect.
In fact, i tried to print something out using out.println() there isn't any effect at all either. So I tried using system.out.println(), it works. (printed out in my tomcat)
Anyone know what should I do in order to close the window?

hmm.. actually i don't really get what you mean.
For my case, I didn't use window.open.
what happened is, i have a html page that prompt user to enter a name for their file. after the user has entered the name, it will submit as a form to a jsp page to do some file conversion. then pass to another jsp page to prompt user to save the file to disk.
the window was pop up for the downloading of file to disk, but behind it, the html window that was pop up earlier (window that prompt user to enter the name) was still there.
eg: a.html -> b.jsp -> c.jsp -> new window for saving of file
window for a.html still around.
In this case, can i still use your method?

Window.close no longer working

Having found the following here on the forums a few months ago we have been successfully using it to close our web browser when exiting our forms application:
Web.show_document('javascript:window.opener=self;javascript:window.close();', '_self');
However, in the last week this functionality has stopped working - but only a few users PCs. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm sure its a browser setting (IE6), but which one?

"Because of the new security code checks, documents in the Internet zone cannot have access through hypertext reference (HREF) links or scripting to documents in the My Computer zone. Only documents located in the Trusted sites zone or the My Computer zone can access documents in the My Computer zone. Therefore, if you want to permit untrusted documents to access documents in the My Computer zone, you must add the source URL in the Trusted sites zone. Do so with caution and careful thought to prevent a potential security weakness."
Since web.show_document uses showDocument, this is the same problem you faced."
So, the use of Javascript to close the browser window is something that will no longer be supported in IE when issued through web.show_document? I'm deferring to your knowledge really as I don't quite understand the implications of what I am being told.

IPad Safari IOS 5 window.close() closing wrong window

When I want to close the child window(although now they open as tabs) in the parent window with javascript window.close(),the parent window was closed.
Is this a bug or have any solution?

I'm having the exact same problem. On iPad Safari on iOS 5 attempting to close a popup window with close() is causing the parent window to close instead. Every other browser, including iPhone Safari on iOS 5 it works fine. I've been trying to come up with a workaround but haven't found anything yet. If anyone can find a workaround please post.

HTML-DB OAE Javascript to close current window and open a new window

The new window opening fires only once although we call it many times.
Our javascript is:

Try this on for size:
I have included two functions.
windowRebuild() - opens a new window, maximizes it based on the screen size, removes all toolbars, and then closes the old window.
myLocation(appName, pageName) - builds a url referencing an HTMLDB application, specfic to what server you are currently on. Very useful when you have an application on 3 different servers(dev, test, prod servers), you wouldn't want the server name hardcoded if you plan to export the app to another server.
Also, you need to be careful when using &APP_ID. I am not completely certain how that is resolved at runtime, but I've found it only works when the javascript is in the HTML Header of a page and not stored in the template of the page.
