WebI/DeskI SIG Discussion Forum

There is now a discussion area within the WebI/DeskI Special Interest Group of [ASUG|http://www.asug.com]. The ASUG WebI/DeskI SIG a continuation of the original GBN community of Web Intelligence and Desktop Intelligence users. The transition of this SIG to the ASUG will allow us to tap a broader audience of BO users, as well as entire SAP ecosystem, in order to bring in valuable expertise and opinion to discussions on WebI/DeskI applications and practices.
We hope that you will use this forum to:
u2022     Share best practices on WebI/DeskI query-building and report design.
u2022     Help foster a better understanding of the BO universe platform and semantic layer.
u2022     Pose and reply to questions on specific WebI/DeskI issues and challenges.
u2022     Provide insight into industry-specific uses of SAP BO enterprise reporting (e.g. finance, healh care, insurance, etc.).
u2022     Collaborate on suggestions and u201Cwish listsu201D for the SAP influence council when determining upcoming WebI/DeskI features.
u2022     Network with fellow WebI/DeskI experts.
Thank you for your continued interest in the WebI/DeskI SIG!

I didn't know it existed either until last night. It's under Forums, then Special Interest Boards, then at the very bottom of Additional Interest Boards. And because the Additional Interest Boards does not have the same format as the above boards (they each show descriptions under the board name), my internet cognition didn't even recognize them as boards.
That being said, it would be a good idea to clean up the board and then create an Announcement: "Discuss your NIWeek plans with others" with a link to that forum.

  • Implement blog and discussion forum using weblogic portal or web center

    Hi All,
    Has anybody implemented blog or discussion forum using weblogic portal or oracle web center?
    Thanks
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
    We are trying something similar. We are using a WebCenter application and using built in task flows. These can now be deployed as portlets on WebLogic portal.
    Another approach i can think of is using Jive Services (Restful services) directly from a custom J2EE appplication (Exactly same thing which Oracle provided Task Flow does). This will give you more control.
    For Wiki, there is no such alternative.

    Venkat

  • Slow to a crawl in the Discussions Forum

    Today has been maddeningly slow . It was taking a few minutes to just open a subject , a couple times I timed out and/or the site appeared to actually go down . I am finding it strange that I don't see much mention of this . At first I thought it was my eMac but the Powerbook was also slow and when I tried the PC , it to was slow . This is just in the Apple Discussions Forum everything else is fine so it's not AT&T
    A search for "slow" showed up some problems in Nov. that were blamed on "code tweaking" so I assume this may be the same problem . Is there someplace that tells about current issues or problems ? Ebay mentions in advance when they will be doing maintenance .

    Hi Kady
    Thank you for the info . I thought it was my computer because I was having other troubles .
    Was it memory leaks ? It would be nice if something could be posted when things slow down. Hear is some info I found ;
    Well, I’m sure you guys and gals know this already, but spend half an hour on the Apple discussion boards at http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?[email protected]@ , preferably accessing things like “my posts” or other search related activity and you will very soon find some nasty memory leaks.
    Most people find that the ‘Real RAM” consumption of Safari goes up from a a few megabytes to over 200MB within 20 minutes or so., at which time very nasty slowdowns occur (40 secs to a minute to open a link on the pages, despite my 1500 ADSL link and an iMac G5 2 GHz with 2 gig of RAM. The problem causes these slowdowns even when I have more than a Gig of RAM completely free.)
    A number of Apple Discussion Board Level 4’s have been discussing this problem and reporting exactly the same experience. We have been wondering whether to blame you, Apple , Javascript, or Web Crossing. Many people who use this board regularly are simply shifting to other browsers to avoid the problem.
    The leak can be overcome to a large extent by disabling javascript, but this is a very annoying way to have to deal with the issue. Spend half an hour on these boards and I’m sure you will soon get some relevant information!
    Cheers
    Rod

  • Special Character in Subject Field of Discussion Forum

    I am creating a new discussion, in the subject when i enter "Portal Discussion?" then it gives error that special character is not allowed. But i want to use the "?" in the subject at the time of creation.
    After creating the discussion i can edit the same thing with special characters, then why SharePoint is not allowing to enter special character at the time of creation.

    Hi
    Refer this link
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/6e7a7eae-26fc-467f-bfdc-7c5d5ff49a95/discussion-forum-storing-special-character-in-title-differently?forum=sharepointdevelopmentlegacy
    It seems that SharePoint will allow the Title of the discussion board to remain with the special characters, but the actual URL will not be allowed and will strip them from the final URL.  SharePoint Manager easily shows this, btw.
    So, there are probably many different ways to get what you are looking for, but one way could be to have a Linq query look for all Discussion Boards on a given site and then return the Title and the DefaultViewUrl, which the latter could then be prefixed by
    the SPWeb.Url to give you something like "Testing? , /" for the title and http://mysite/Lists/Testing/AllItems.aspx (assuming
    that is the actual default view) which you could then use as the final URL for your hyperlink in your web part.
    In the code snippet below you can see the Linq query (which I assumed from your post that you need to query to find the Discussion Boards) and a simple DataTable that you could then use to populate a repeater or you just omit the DataTable and
    enumerate the results from the query yourself:
    var linqResults
    = from list in oSPWeb.Lists.Cast<SPList>() where list.BaseTemplate
    == SPListTemplateType.DiscussionBoardselect list;
    DataTable oDataTable
    = new DataTable();
    DataColumn oDataColumn_Title
    = new DataColumn("Title", typeof(string));
    oDataTable.Columns.Add(oDataColumn_Title);
    DataColumn oDataColumn_URL
    = new DataColumn("URL", typeof(string));
    oDataTable.Columns.Add(oDataColumn_URL);
    foreach (SPList oSPList in linqResults)
    DataRow oDataRow
    = oDataTable.NewRow();
    oDataRow[
    "Title"]
    = oSPList.Title.ToString();
    oDataRow[
    "URL"]
    = oSPWeb.Url + oSPList.DefaultViewUrl.ToString();
    oDataTable.Rows.Add(oDataRow);
    oDataTable.AcceptChanges();

  • Is there any way to programmatically get the discussion forum Id using API

    Hi,
    Can any one let me know how to get and set the Discussion service forum Id / category Id to the discussion task flow programmatically using services API's. Here I am using Web center groupspace API's to create and add members to group space from my fusion app. Added the discussion task flow to my fusion app and need to set the category Id / forum Id assigned to that groupspace and display the corresponding discussions. The test connections to discussion forum is success. I am getting all the forums corresponding to that user in my ui. But I want to get the forum that is associated with my groupspace.
    thanks.

    Never mind. Got the solution, can get this through servicesMetaData api.

  • Welcome to the New NI Discussion Forums!

    We are excited to present the NEW and IMPROVED NI Discussion Forums to you, our valued community members!
    The community not only had a face-lift, it now offers a full set of advanced personalization features and it is available in seven languages!
    Here are some tips to help you get around the new system:
    What do the boxes next to the user names mean?
    This is the new user ranking system. The three boxes represent the user’s score in the three performance metrics: ratings, posts, and logins. The darker the box is shaded, the higher the user has scored in that performance metric.
    The box on the left is the average message rating the user has received.
    The box in the center is the total number of posts the user has contributed to the community.
    The box on the right is the number of times the user has logged into the community.
    The blue boxes designate the user is an NI Employee while the gold boxes are reserved for NI Partners and customers.
    How do I find a thread from the old system in the new system?
    If you have the title of the thread, we recommend searching for it using the search bar at the top or bottom of the page.
    If you do not have the title of thread or cannot find it with search, but you know that you posted to the thread, we recommend that you login and click on your Alias at the top of the page to view your profile. From your profile page, click on the Find All Posts by this User link and scroll through the results to find the thread.
    If you do not have the title of the thread and you didn’t post to it, but you know the Alias of someone else who did post to the thread, conduct a User search to find that user. Click on their Alias to view their profile page and then use the Find All Posts by this User link to find the thread.
    If you do not have the title of the thread and you don’t know the Alias of any user who posted to it, we recommend browsing the board that you believe it would be in until you find it.
    How do I personalize the forums?
    Once you login, click on the My Profile link at the top of the page. From the tabs on this page, you can modify your time zone, ratings preference, font size, emoticon style, etc to personalize your experience. As long as you remember to Save Changes before you leave the tabs, your forum will be personalized for you each time you login.
    What languages are supported?
    The user interface is translated into the following languages:
    Chinese (Simplified)
    Chinese (Traditional)
    English
    French
    Korean
    Japanese
    Spanish
    Note: The language in the My Preferences tab in the forums only controls the language for that session. As soon as you logout and login again, your language will be reset to the language that you have configured in your NI User Profile. To modify the language configured in your NI User Profile, visit www.ni.com/profile.

    What does Float mean?
    You can choose to pin boards or threads to the top of the lists so that when you are logged in they are the first things you see. To do this, click on the up arrow to the right of the board or message you want to Float to the top of your lists. When you no longer want this message or board at the top of your lists, you can click the arrow again to UnFloat the board or message.
    Why are there smiley faces in the sample code pieces?
    There are times when the pieces of code include the same characters that are used to create an emoticon in the forums. To disable emoticons so that you can see the code correctly, follow these steps:
    Sign In or Register to the forums if you are not already logged in
    Click My Profile in the User Bar at the top of the page
    Click My Preferences to view the My Preferences tab
    Change the Emoticon Type to None in the My Preferences tab in your Profile
    Click Save Changes
    Now when you browse to the thread, the code should be displayed correctly.
    Emoticons will no longer be displayed in any messages you view in the forums until you change the Emoticon Type back to one of the other types.
    If you have additional questions or feedback about the upgrade, refer to the Help or post to the Feedback on NI Discussion Forums board.

    Just a couple of comments:
    1. In the CVI forum, I couldn't post a message which included the C #include syntax with angle brackets. It interpreted the angle brakcets as HTML, gave me an HTML syntax error, and deleted the angle brackets as well as the .h file they enclosed. There may be a way in HTML to escape the angle brakcets so they can be included as text rather than interpreted as HTML, but I shouldn't have to do that in a C forum.
    2. When I got the HTML error message above, it also deleted the file I had attached so when I posted the message, there was no attachment.
    3. I don't get automatic hyperlinks in any posts I read or create. The text of the URL is there, but I can't just click to link to the new page. Am I missing some option?
    4. Older but updated messages don't come to the top. I like to see new activity even if I'm not subscribed to that thread.
    5. When reviewing the list of messages in the forums, I'd like to see the ratings of the author and of the reply (even before opening the message). In the old forums, the messages where tagged "Answered by Enthusiast" and/or "High rating".
    6. I'd like to see the buttons to rate an answer even if I'm not logged. If I try to rate an answer when I'm not logged on, it could prompt me to log on first. If the rating buttons are only available if you're logged on, I think the number of ratings will be drastically reduced.
    7. I miss the list of top contributors (formerly known as Enthusiasts). I think it was a good way to foster community and to get to know active members. It also generated some friendly competition to see who had more posts and who had higher ratings.
    8. I liked the old organization with two sections to show the newest answered questions separate from the newest unanswered questions.
    9. Some of the new search options are good additions. I'd like to combine the user search and the message search. For example, I might like to search for any message from Bilal on DLLs.
    10. I had to make this a Top 10 list. I'm impressed by the amount of work that went into the new forums. Keep it up!

  • Discussion forum layout could be improved

    In each discussion forum, topics are listed a fixed box nested inside several frames surrounded by white space.
    For example, although Numbers forum has 1,911 topics, with default settings only 15 topics are listed in a 9.2" diagonal box, in the center of my 24" screen. Below the list, I am invited to click through 128 screens to see all 1,911 topics, one screen at a time. (The list length can grow to 50 by editing settings while logged on; I did not see how to do this when viewing the list.)
    Suggestions:
    1. allow scrolling through topics within the list view
    2. allow topic list frame width to scale with the window
    Can a discussion thread view be expanded?
    I hope this is an appropriate comment for this area. Thank you for listening.
    L Jones

    The width of the frame containing a topic's text (incl. scroll bar) is approx. 800 px. This is pretty standard practice on pages with one column of content.
    Even a site like the New York Times', which is five columns wide, has a max width of approx 975 px, with the main body of content and links contained within 625 px.
    A 24" screen is great for many things, but it brings no particular benefit when it comes to viewing web pages at standard resolutions, because most pages are designed with smaller displays and handheld devices (e.g. the iPhone) in mind.

  • Discussion forum Cannot find the configuration file config\common\bc4j.xcfg

    I successfully deployed the discussion form portlet and registered it with portal. I can reach the provider test page at Http://myserver:7777/forum/providers/forum
    Everything seems to be good except when I add the portlet to a page, and then view the page, I see an error in the portlet:
    "Unable to perform the operation: JBO-29000: Unexpected exception caught: oracle.jbo.JboException, msg=JBO-33001: Cannot find the configuration file config\common\bc4j.xcfg in the classpath"
    I have verified that bc4j.xcfg (as I have modified it) exists in:
    $IAS_HOME\j2ee\OC4J_Portal\applications\forum\forum\WEB-INF\classes\config\common
    I followed the instructions exactly. Does anyone know how to resolve this error? I'm running portal 9.0.2.3.0B, PDK 9.0.2.6.2 and the latest discussion forum download (downloaded 7/1/2004)
    Many thanks in advance!

    No ideas anyone?

  • How to integrate Blogs & Discussion Forums for Webcenter Suite 10gR3?

    Hi,
    One of our clients has just gone live with a Webcenter 10gR3 Portal implementation (using WC Framework). They're now interested in integrating blogs and discussion forums with their Portal.
    My understanding is that blogging, discussion forum etc is not supported in Webcenter 10gR3. Correct me if wrong?
    Can someone share any solutions which have been implemented around the same. Eg: I read about using blogs, wiki etc from Webcenter 11g Stack and exposing them web services.
    Basically what are the possible options we can explore into?
    Thanks,
    Preethi

    Thanks Venkat. Actually we're not considering migrating to 11g I was only looking for possible options and this was one of them that I read the forum.
    Thought to adding some more information about this portal: It is developed in WLP so they're on Weblogic Server.
    Jon Huang, Director Product Management for Webcenter Suite and Portal tells me
    "The WebCenter 10.1.3.4 Additional Services releases contains wiki/blog/discussions and is certified with WebCenter 10gR3 version:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/webcenter/owcs_10134_addtlservices.html
    *You'll need to use WLS for these additional services.*"
    That answers my question, but would appreciate if others can share any more info on similar implementations, if done.

  • Discussion Forum installation problem

    Hi,
    I'm having trouble installing the discussion forum by Peter Moskovits. The test page (http://server:port/df/providers) gives the message "The page cannot be found". It seems to be looking for a /df/ directory under /htdocs/. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks
    Carey
    PS. I have Portal 902 installed on Windows 2000.

    Hi Carey,
    Has the application been deployed successfully (ear file unzipped, ...)?
    Did you make all the necessary changes to the config files (http-web-site.xml, server.xml)? Can you double-check whether you have any typos in there?
    Could you post the relevant sections of the config files here?

  • Discussion Forum Portlets - Anyone using in Production?

    This is a followup to another post.
    Is anyone using the sample Discussion Forum and Discussion Forum Admin portlets provided in WebLogic Portal 8.1 in a production environment? I've already received feedback from one person who had difficulties and decided not to use them, but I wanted to know if there were any success stories.

    Bryan,
    <p>I also put a lot of weight in Tom’s posts; I am however convinced that contacting Oracle Support is a better solution for direct, bug related questions. I do, for example not doubt that his human tasks did not work when put in parallel flows. There might be workarounds, such as putting the human workflow stuff in a separate service, but to me sounds like a bug and bugs should be reported, analyzed, and fixed.</p>
    <p>As you can see from my profile, I do not live in Poland so I do not know about the training situation there, but I have, personally, delivered five SOA Suite classes so far during 2007 and I know that I am not the only one running SOA training in Sweden. I might be wrong, but based on my own experience, I have assumed that the lack of training that Tom is experiencing is due to communication problems, and that contacting Oracle Education would sort things out. (Training in Europe tends to be given in the local language. A quick look at the web shows that the next 5 day SOA Suite training in Poland seems to be scheduled for November 19th.)</p>
    <p>On the topic of frequent changes in interfaces as mentioned above, I agree that an update of the table structure in a database must never cause business process updates. If that is the case, the architecture most likely suffers from tight coupling. I never recommend anyone to use adapters direct from BPEL try to but use (coarse gained) services published on the service bus as much as possible to avoid such problems. For an introduction to SOA best practices see (for example) Dave Schaffer’s 7 Steps to SOA in SOA World Magazine.</p>
    <p>I am sorry if you feel that my posts are not providing the level of support you where hoping to find. Perhaps it is our expectations community/forums vs official product support that differs. Regarding whether Oracle has figured it out or not, you do not have to trust me – take a look at what InfoWorld or Forrester are saying.</p>
    <p/>

  • Projet : java based discussion forum

    hi all,
    i am planning to build a project based upon JAVA.
    the base concept is to build a java based discussion forum.
    this is my first independent project so can anyone please suggest answers to following questions :
    (1) how to start building a project.
    (2) for text editor in my project should i use any existing editor or should i create editor on my own.
    thanks
    pratz

    804658 wrote:
    and for the editor related question may be i was not clear with the question.
    actually i wanted to ask about the editor that the end user will use in my application to post his thought but ill appreciate if you could have asked me that for which editor i am asking the question instead of directly saying that i am not ready to build a project, that is really discouraging.Well, I'm just giving you honest feedback. If you don't even know how to start a project, then a discussion forum is probably a bit out of your reach.
    As for your question about the editor. I assume you're creating a web based discussion forum? Then the "editor" would be just a regular HTML textbox (most likely) that the user would fill with his text.
    But maybe you'll want to start with something smaller. For a discussion forum you'll need to know how to use databases, create web user interfaces and handle all sorts of other things. Do you know how to do those or did you think (like so many others here) that you'll just pick those up along the way?

  • "Connection reset" when trying to access Apple Discussion Forums

    I am unable to log onto the discussion forums from my iBook since changing my ISP to a satellite Broadband service (Bordernet) in Australia. When I attempt to do so I get a message in my browser "The Connection was reset while page was loading."
    I can access the site without problems from a PC on the same LAN without any difficulties - hence my ability to post this message.
    Have also had some intermittent diffiulty in sending emails with (small) attachments (250-400k).
    The ISP help desk suggested I reset the timeout in the Outlook Email program on the Windows machine to maximum. Did that, no change with the iBook.
    Doesn't seem to be a issue of the Apple.com servers being overloaded, as I can fail to manage a log on with the iBook and easily do so with the Windows machine within seconds of switching machines.
    I've also checked that passwords and logon name are the same on both machines.
    Have tried connecting the satellite modem directly to the iBook as well as through the router (a D-Link 704-P) and the speeds are consistent -- so close to the same that they virtually identical.
    Don't have any firewalls set on the iBook or through the router software, only on the Windows machine, and it is the one that works!
    Have set up the proxies and port settings suggested by the ISP (10.16.143.73:9877) which result in a general speed increase earlier on, but did not solve this problem.
    The people at the ISP haven't come up with an answer yet.
    Is there a way to set the timeout on an ibook? (Altough I suspect that this is a red herring as I'm not so sure that settings in an email program will effect other internet settings as well...
    Could there be other settings on the iBook that may be slowing things up enough to make this happen?
    Any ideas?

    Is it a Linksys Modem?
    By the way... NSURLErrorNetworkConnectionLost

    Sooo, while it may be something as weird as Satellite alignment/interference, I've read that trashing the whole Users/nnn/Preferences Folder fixid it, but maybe installing Applejack...
    http://applejack.sourceforge.net/
    Once installed, reboot, hold down the CMD+s keys, when the prompt shows, type in "applejack auto", (without the quotes), and let it run all 5 things in the series... thinking maybe a .cache is being held over from your previous setup!?
    Anyway, once you really need Applejack, you can't install it or download it! :_)
    Waiting to see if we get anywhere with this tact.
    Oh yeah, that plist will be regenerated on a restart.
