Webi query performance in SAP BO 4.0 sp6

Hello,
I'm facing an issue with the webi reports in our BI 4 SP6 environment. The webi reports data fetch time is ridiculously slow, where as when these queries are run on Oracle 10g the results are returned much faster as compared to WebI. The same reports used to fetch data faster few months ago when we were on SP4.
Now my question is what can I do to improve the query data fetch time in webi? Is there some parameter that I can tweak in BO or do I need to add more services? Please suggest. thanks
Following are the specs of the QA environment:
We are using a clustered environment with 2 nodes (CUSNWA3T and CUSNWA3U) - these are the names of the nodes. Each node has 12 GB of RAM and each node is a VMware virtual machine running on windows server 2008. Each of these BO servers/nodes is having its own CMS server, I have broken down the APS into sub servers after facing issues with the DSL Bridge service.
Regards,
samique

Andreas,
thats for reply. Yep I agree with your suggestion about the RAM is there any document that details out how much RAM and processing power is required by SAP BO 4.x?
I had to turn down the explorer, crystal reports, AJS, Dashboard Services just to provide for the APS. I did break down the APS as well according to a document that I found on SAP site.
Here is what worked for me: we use DW relational connections for the universes, all our universes are UNX universes. In the connection there are options for: Array bind size, Array Fetch size and pooling timeout. I increased all those, array bind size to 250; Array fetch size to 32670 and pooling timeout to 20 mins and the dba set the ConnectInit to set star schema transformation. Once all these were enabled the report which was loading in 20 mins started refreshing in 6 mins.
For now things seem to be working fine but I will certainly raise the RAM request to the management but it would help if you could provide with some reference document. Thanks
Regards,
samique

  • How to build a WEBI query on a SAP NANA OLAP connection?

    hi fellows,
we all know that a relational connection can be built to SAP HANA database, and we build data foundation, biz layer to publish it to the repository, so that we can create a WEBI report based on a query to visit the universe.
However, does anybody know how to create a WEBI query on a SAP HANA OLAP connection?  Since we don't need to build any data foundation on it.
I created a sap hana olap connection, but failed to find anywhere to publish it?  Can anybody help?

  • EXCEL Web Query  - load into SAP via Web dynpro or standard ABAP

    Hi everybody
I was wondering if you can run an EXCEL WEB Query from abap and then upload the data retrieved from the web into SAP using either a web dynpro application or standard SAP.
For standard ABAP one could probably run the EXCEL web query by executing some code such as
    call method cl_gui_frontend_services=>execute
    exporting
document = 'your excel web query file'.
You could then save the data and using GUI_UPLOAD get it into sap.
I'd really like to do it via a web dynpro application.
    Any ideas anyone.
For guys who've never used EXCEL web queries --quite easy.
    Open EXCEL
    go to Import External Data
    Choose New web query
Enter URL of where you want to retrieve your data from such as YAHOO finance etc.
For example to get the components of the Dow Jones Composite Index (^DJA) use this url
    http://finance.yahoo.com/q/cp?s=%5EDJA
click the yellow arrow on the table data you want to import. The arrow will turn Green and press IMPORT
Then enter the cell number where you want to start importing data
Hey presto you've got your data from the web.
    Cheers
    jimbo

when you create a new webquery, in the properties, you can set when the page should refresh (data fetch to happen), you can set that to refresh at file open.
then you can use either OLE or gui_upload to upload the excel to read the data.
    have couple of question:
why do you want to choose excel webquery ?=> is it because the ability to get unstructured data from the web?
what sort of data you are trying to read from the web?=> most of data centric sites (forex, stock quotes) will have either RSS feeds or some web APIs to get data which can be easily consumed by ABAP

  • Query Performance - Free charactristics

    Hi Gurus,
Does the no. of free characteristics in a query influence the performance of the query? Especially in case of input-ready query.
    Thanks,
    Magnus

Free char. will not affect the query performance.
SAP BW suggest to put the char. as free char. to avoid the large volume of data when open the query.
If end user need to input lots of parameters when open the query, i think you'd better check the OLAP Cache.
If the data for the query is not in the cache, BW have to fetch the data from cube and it definately affect the performance.
You can test the query in RSRT to find the result.

  • Query performance for WEBI on top of BEx

    Hello Everyone,
Is there a way to get the time taken by a webi query execution on the BO side and in the BW side? Is this stat stored some where?
Also, what is the best approach to take for comparing performance between the original bex query and the WEBI on top of the Bex?
    Thanks for your help.

  • Is it possible to provide an BEx Web Query with parameters based on iView?

    Hi SAP Portal experts,
My knowledge of SAP Portal is limited and I ran into the following problem:
I have got about 60 BEx Web Queries which should be put into some sort of navigation. Furthermore I would like to intodruce one start page where the user can preselect common bex query variables (e.g. company code) by clicking on a map.
My approach was to put all query links into a BEx Web Application Template. The template includes a JavaScript storing the userdefined values in a cookie. As soon as the user clicks on a link the cookie values are read from that cookie and a query parameter string is set up like "&BI_COMMAND_1-BI_COMMAND_TYPE=SET_VARIABLES_STATE&BI_COMMAND_1-VARIABLE_VALUES-VARIABLE_VALUE_1-VARIABLE_TYPE=VARIABLE_INPUT_STRING&BI_COMMAND_1-VARIABLE_VALUES-VARIABLE_VALUE_1-VARIABLE_TYPE-VARIABLE_INPUT_STRING=2100&BI_COMMAND_1-VARIABLE_VALUES-VARIABLE_VALUE_1-VARIABLE=0P_COCD" and concatenated with the URL for the BEx Query.
My colleague wants me to put all this into SAP Portal and to create an iView for each BEx Query. How can I achieve that? I have already had a look at the iView property "parameters passed on to BEx Web Application". If I put my parameter string there, it works fine. However, I would like to replace VARIABLE_INPUT_STRING=2100 and VARIABLE=0P_COCD with the values selected by the user by clicking on the map. So how can I set up a parameter or variable in one iView and read it in another iView with a BEx Web Query???
Thank you very much in advance
    Martin

I have thought about this. There are some problems here....
I cannot use the same proxy to invoke the java callout and then based on the code or handler disable it, since
    1) i would have no way to enable back the proxy again.
    2) Also there is some amount of message loss.
So i will have to use another proxy to do the same, but in this case
    1) what would be the trigger to this proxy?
    2) And how often do i invoke the java callout to see if the URI is up or not? (wouldnt that affect the performance?)
I am just wondering why did they give an offline URI option in the business service and no similar option in the proxy service, Any Idea?
    Thanks

  • Query Performance - Analyzer vs WAD

    Hi experts,
We've been having user complaints regarding performance in BW.  The queries are accessed using Analyzer/Excel interface.  As a test I've tried comparing opening the query through Analyzer and then through Web Application Designer.  With Excel my load from S900 was taking almost 2 minutes.  With the Web Browser my initial load was just 30 seconds!  This is great however, this number is deceiving because it's only showing me a subset of the data; the first 25% of the data is shown and if I want to view more I have to click 'next page' (called 'Next Rows' on screen).  So the subsequent set of records (say 25-50%) then takes another 30 seconds.  So if you hit Next page each time you will end up getting 4 loads of 30 seconds each thus the same performance as Excel (2 minutes total wait), although maybe less stressful to sit and watch.
    QUESTION:
It seems like the subsequent loads are taking 30 seconds because they are re-querying the back-end data (the S900 Cube) instead of re-querying the resultset.  Is that true?  Do you see my problem?  Is there a better way to do this to improve performance?
Thanks for any help you can provide!

  • Display Query performance in WAD

    All
Is there a way to display the query performance statistics in the report result for a web report created in the WAD (is there a standard template/web object?
Eg display number of records read and time taken for query result.
I am sure I have seen this in SAP demos but don't know if it is a standard content offering
    Thanks
    Gidon

    Thanks, very helpfull.
    I´m using BI 7.0
However, when I do as you suggested, I still get the query name, not the query view name.
The query view should be selected dynamically from the view that is displayed at that moment.
Also, can you incorporate saved views from the Bex Portfolio and display their names?

  • Query performance - bench marking

Performance of  a query at any given time is determined by many variables, and I would like to know how to detect performance issues against a benchmark. One thought was to store some data in a separate cube (and not load any more data into it), run a specific query daily (few times) and have the run time info. updated on BW statistics cube. And when users complain about any performance issues on the system for different queries, we can run this specific query to see if there is really a true performance issue in the system.
The objective is to establish bench marks for tracking query performance. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

that's good idea, but i think only volume data factor may considered here, other factors like query design, aggregate, frontend, network, etc. take a look following for query performance

  • Web reporting performance

    Hi,
We are experiencing very slow response times when viewing reports over the web.  We get a connection time out in most cases.  Can somebody provide any guidance as to how to optimize/improve web reporting performance.  Thanks for your help.
    SC

    Hello:
Since you stated explicitly "when viewing reports over the web", I assume that your performance issue has been isolated to some extent (web queries instead of general query problems).  Therefore things like aggregates and the timeout parameter are not likely your main bottleneck (you would notice the issue for all queries).
I would start here - on SDN, Business Information Warehouse > Performance Tuning section.  The whitepaper on the performance tuning topic is available there, which is quite comprehensive.
Since the issue appears to be web-related, I would speculate that there may be an IGS issue.  When analyzing the performance data, make sure that the front-end times for the queries you have problems with are high.  Network overhead is a component to this - since BWQ results are compressed this shouldn't be a big overhead though.
In terms of optimizing/improving web performance, your killer apps are precalaculate template / information broadcasting.  These techniques allow you to run the query ahead of time in the background and store the result set to deliver immediately when the user runs a query.
Good luck with the performance analysis.  If you hit a wall you may consider contacting SAP Active Global Support or SAP Consulting for further assistance.

  • 2004s Web report performance is not good ,though that of 3x web is OK.

    Hi,
I feel 2004s Web report performance is bad, though that of 3x web is no problem (the same query is used.) it is worse than BEx analyzer.
This query has more than 1,000 records and those queries that have many records result in the same bad performance.
Of course there are many reason for this bad performance, please tell me your solution by which you solve the same problem like this.
the SIDs of EP and BI is difference here.
CPU is not consumed when 2004s web report is executed.
And I have cancelled  virus scan to this web report...
    Kind regards,
    Masaaki

It is bad, am sure it's down to the new .net and java based technology.  Aggregates are a way forwards though from what i've heard of the BI Accelerator this is the real way forwards.

    Fremlin,
Report bursting is only for distributing your reports to your end users.
You can improve performance only by following the [Best practices|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/a084a11c-6564-2b10-79ac-cc1eb3f017ac] in xcelsius.

  • How to improve query performance built on a ODS

    Hi,
I've built a report on FI_GL ODS (BW3.5). The report execution time takes almost 1hr.
Is there any method to improve or optimize th query performance that build on ODS.
The ODS got huge volume of data ~ 300 Million records for 2 years.
    Thanx in advance,
    Guru.

    Hi Raj,
Here are some few tips which helps you in improving ur query performance
    Checklist for Query Performance
    1. If exclusions exist, make sure they exist in the global filter area. Try to remove exclusions by subtracting out inclusions.
    2. Use Constant Selection to ignore filters in order to move more filters to the global filter area. (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code)
    3. Within structures, make sure the filter order exists with the highest level filter first.
    4. Check code for all exit variables used in a report.
    5. Move Time restrictions to a global filter whenever possible.
    6. Within structures, use user exit variables to calculate things like QTD, YTD. This should generate better code than using overlapping restrictions to achieve the same thing. (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code).
    7. When queries are written on multiproviders, restrict to InfoProvider in global filter whenever possible. MultiProvider (MultiCube) queries require additional database table joins to read data compared to those queries against standard InfoCubes (InfoProviders), and you should therefore hardcode the infoprovider in the global filter whenever possible to eliminate this problem.
    8. Move all global calculated and restricted key figures to local as to analyze any filters that can be removed and moved to the global definition in a query. Then you can change the calculated key figure and go back to utilizing the global calculated key figure if desired
    9. If Alternative UOM solution is used, turn off query cache.
    10. Set read mode of query based on static or dynamic. Reading data during navigation minimizes the impact on the R/3 database and application server resources because only data that the user requires will be retrieved. For queries involving large hierarchies with many nodes, it would be wise to select Read data during navigation and when expanding the hierarchy option to avoid reading data for the hierarchy nodes that are not expanded. Reserve the Read all data mode for special queriesu2014for instance, when a majority of the users need a given query to slice and dice against all dimensions, or when the data is needed for data mining. This mode places heavy demand on database and memory resources and might impact other SAP BW processes and tasks.
    11. Turn off formatting and results rows to minimize Frontend time whenever possible.
    12. Check for nested hierarchies. Always a bad idea.
    13. If "Display as hierarchy" is being used, look for other options to remove it to increase performance.
    14. Use Constant Selection instead of SUMCT and SUMGT within formulas.
    15. Do review of order of restrictions in formulas. Do as many restrictions as you can before
calculations. Try to avoid calculations before restrictions.
    17. Turn off warning messages on queries.
    18. Check to see if performance improves by removing text display (Use ABAPer to test and validate that this ensures better code).
    19. Check to see where currency conversions are happening if they are used.
    20. Check aggregation and exception aggregation on calculated key figures. Before aggregation is generally slower and should not be used unless explicitly needed.
    21. Avoid Cell Editor use if at all possible.
    22. Make sure queries are regenerated in production using RSRT after changes to statistics, consistency changes, or aggregates.
    23. Within the free characteristics, filter on the least granular objects first and make sure those come first in the order.

  • Scheduling web intelligence reports from SAP EP Portal : Server Side Trust

    Hello,
We have set-up SSO between SAP EP 701, SAP BI 701 and Business Object XI 3.1  to allow users to access reports without having to sign-on again as explained here :
    /people/ingo.hilgefort/blog/2008/09/19/businessobjects-and-sap--configure-sap-authentication
But, we have recently been contacted by some users because when scheduling Webi Report from a link within the portal they have the following errors :
u201CA database error occured. The database error text is: Unable to connect to SAP BW server System received an expired SSO ticket. (WIS 10901) u201D
The user told us that he doesn't encounter the error when :
Login in directly to the BO Infoview (without SSO from the SAP Enterprise Portal.)
The first Webi scheduling is succesful from the portal (I suppose because the portal token is still valid)
I understand that we also have to configure the Server Side Trust between BO Enterprise server and the SAP BI7 backend as explained here , but I do not really understand its purpose
    https://websmp106.sap-ag.de/~sapidb/011000358700001646962008E/XI3-1_BIP_SAP_INSTALL_EN.pdf
    I've found a similar discussions here ;
Issue with SAP Single Sign-On and Scheduling Reports
I still have some questions :
If we configure the Server Side Trust between BO Enterprise server and the SAP BI7 backend .
The Portal Logon ticket will remain an issue at some point of time , does it mean tha the WeBi report job sheduling should not be perfromed from the SAP EP Portal ?
We haven't configured the Server Side Trust , yet the users told us that they are able to schedule webi report directly from the BO Infoview ? How is it posible ?
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Regards.

Thank you Mr Hilgefort for your detailled explanations.
I now have to provide some explanations to my managers, and to be honest , there are still some points that
are unclear to me, and it would be extremely helpful if could confirm (or not) the follwoing points.
When scheduing Webi report from the sap portal, we're getting SSO errors.
SAP provide the follwoing note explaining how to extend the validity of the J2EE token (Portal token), but this is not a long term solution, at certain point of time the ticket will expire. Webi shceduling should not be perfromed from the Portal.
Sap note 1352127 - Scheduled Webi report fails with: A database error occurred. The database error text is: Unable to connect to SAP BW server System received an expired SSO ticket
Webi Scheduling should be performed from BO Infoview. SNC should be configured between BO server and SAP BI7.0 backend.
We should Configure Server SNC as explained in the BusinessObjects XI Integration for SAP Solutions Installation and Administration Guide at Chapter "Configuring SAP for server-side trust". (1341043)
The SAP Portal is not involved here and is not an option even with the configuration of SNC/Server side trust.
    thank you for your patience.
    Best Regards.
