Webi Variables

Hi,
I have a request for an Ad-Hoc report for daily customer sales report.
We have cost elements in the Universe and we need to get Net sales and COGS, which are different set of cost elements.
Now is it eaiser to create a CKF on The query or is there a better way to do it on WEBI Report?
For example:
Net sales we only take discounts & rebates and Sales Revenu.
COGS : COGS and Inventory Adj
we do need to put a condition when creating these key figures and is it better to be done on BEx Query or on WebI?
Please any help on this will be appreciated.

Are you asking how to create a calculation with Webi syntax? Or are you asking what objects to use in your calculation? Do you have all the objects you need available to you on the report? I would think you would make the formula something like:
[Sales Object] - [Discounts Object] - [Rebates Object]
for Net Sales.
You make one variable for Net Sales, and one for COGS, then save them, and place them on the report.
Sorry if I am over-simplifying. Maybe I am still not sure what you are asking!

Mass / Multiple entries in Web variables

Hi experts,
i am looking for a possibility to upload mass/multiple selection entries in variables (web queries). I didn't find standard functionality like in Excel to upload variable entries via .txt file or copy from clipboard.
Does anyone know how to do it or how to enhance standard functionality?
In addition to that is it possible to save selection entries as variants in web variables?
We are currently working on SAP BW 3.5 and WAS.

Unfortunately, there is no standard functionality in BW 3.5. Both issues are adressed with NW2004s:
From SP 9 it is possible to save variants on the variable screen.
With SP12 there should be a new function to upload text files into the selection.

Web Variables are being displayed and they shouldn't be

Hi, Our web template is configured to not present the variable screen when the variables are populated. For some reason after I added the dynamic tab functionality using the SAP_BW_URL command our variables screens are appearing after selecting a tab. When the screen appears all of the variables are populated and some of the variables are not melted. The only thing our SAP_BW_URL command does is reset a dataprovider.

this is a tricky situation:
just assume the following scenario (this is what I have seen when I had a glimpse on your original post)
- In your template you have 2 DataProvider DP1 and DP2
- DP1 is assigned to a table item and points initially to some query (A)
- DP2 is not assigned to a web item and points initially to some query (B)
- Query B has some mandatory variable
- Now when you call your web template the variable screen will be displayed (Variable for DP2 (query B))
- You enter a value and submit the variable screen
- Now you reset DP1 to another query (ok it's query B (which you already used as DP, but the system won't check this while resetting the variable screen). Now the (new) query has a unfilled variable. The system needs to bring up the variable screen.
- As we have now 2 variables (one already filled (during start of your template) and one still initiall. They have different default values and won't be melted.
- You get a variable screen with 2 variables
- And they just have the same value, because the system remembers the last entered value and already writes it in the input field.
The parameter reset variables to default is only relevant for views (mainly during first initialization of template). With your command you didn't change DP2.

Solution: In BW 3.5 there's a possbility to pass filters and variables to another Query with the command RESET_DATA_PROVIDER (parameter rri=X)
in BW < 3.5 I would recommend to not use RESET_DATA_PROVIDER, but creating different table items, which are initially hidden and just hide/unhide the correct tables ...

How to set up web variable screen for filtering by attributes

Hi out there,
My problem deals with the query variable selection screen in the web. I would like to filter some variables by their attributes in the same way it is done in the navigation item, but in the selection screen I have only the characteristic values in the F4 help available. Is there a way to adjust or extend the selection screen so that I can also filter by attributes (without having to modify the corresponding ABAP Class)?
By the way this functionality exists for selection screen in BEx, so why doesn't it exist in the web?
I'd appreciate any idea.

The most direct way to do this is modifying the principal infoobject and make this attribute as NAVIGATIONAL.....this allows you to see this attribute as a characteristic in Query Designer and you could use it with a filter....

Hiding variables in WebI report

Hi,
We have generated an Universe based on a BW query which has 5 user entry variables with user exit logic coded for each one.
Based on this Universe we wish to create 2 WebI reports.
However, for the both the reports all the 5 variables are displayed.
Is there a way to hide the variables, so that on the first report we see two variables and on the second WebI report we are able to see the remaining three variables.
For all 5 variables, we have some logic on the BW user exits and hence we want to leaverage the BW variables and not opt for the WebI variables.

How did you manage to hide the variable, we have a similar issue, I have created a BW variable that is populated by Customer Exit. The problem is, for the query to be filtered in the Webi Report it the variable has to be defined as "input ready", and this allows the users to change the data in the variable which I don't want them to do. If I don't make it input ready the WebI Report is not filtered.
If we could hide the variable it would solve our problem

Personalization of variables in WEB

I activated personalization of bex in the spro. It works fine in the query analyzer. But this doenst work in my portal queries.
I have gone thru this link but couldnt find out the exact place to create it.

Hi Annie,
To personalize the variable,
1.Open a query in Web Analyzer
2.Go to Filter link->Variable Screen button
This pops up a variable screen and shows the list of variables.
3.Click "Show Variable Personalization" and move the variables you want to personalize from General variables to Personalized variables.Check "Show Personalized Varaible" checkbox which allows you to see the personalized variables in the variable screen.
This is specific to that query.This is how you can personalize a variable in Web.

Installation Problem Visual Studio Express 2013 for Web on Windows 8.1

Hi,
I am new to Microsoft developing tools and I have spent the last two days trying to install VS Express 2013 for Web on my laptop that's running windows 8.1 (X64,Intel
Core i5 3337U (1.80GHz)).
I run it as an administrator and have enough space on the disk. However, I keep on getting the same error.
Microsoft Visual Studio Express 2013 for Web - ENU Fatal error during installation.
After uninstalling and deleting the temp files, I get an additional error.
Entity Framework 6.1.1 Tools for Visual Studio 2013
User cancelled installation.

It maybe a registry or administrator issue.
Please install VS with administrator.
What's more, it maybe a corrupt registry issue. And you can't install any version of Visual Studio, I think you can use the tool to fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled. It also can fix the corrupted registry keys.

Used of Sap text variable with replacement path in Bo designer

Dear experts,
I created a univers based on a SAp BW query. In this query I used a text variable in order to get dynamic header columns.
The text variable is done by using "replacement path" that is the text is derived automatically from the user input triggered by a sap bw variable.
example :
the query contains a restricted key figure which shows net values for a selected year based on variable PYEAR.
The name of this restricted keyfigure is &ZYEAR& where ZYEAR is the text variable with replacement path from the variable PYEAR.
When generated the univers based on this query I get component &YEAR&.
When I use this unvers in WebI my result containts header with &YEAR& althougth I selected for example the year 2006.
According to several how to and white papers on SDN , it seems that text variables with replacement path are supported. So I am disapointed by this result.
Can you give me advise to get a rigth result ?

Hi Rishit,
I am trying to achieve the same as you, but it seems like text variables in restricted key figures do not work. I am using BO XI3.1 SP3 and SAP BW 7.01 SP6.
A work-around for me has been to use the "user response" function in webi to create a webi variable that holds the dynamic text title. If the user inputs Jan 2010, I change the input to a date using the "user response" and "ToDate" functions in the webi variable editor. After changing the input to a date I use the RelativeDate to extract 1 month (e.g. 25 days) from the user input. Then I have both Jan 2010 and Dec 2010 as webi variables to use as headers for my restricted key figures.
The formulas can easily become a little long, but by tweaking the user response string, you should be able to get dynamic headings by using webi functionality. But be aware that you need one webi variable for each dynamic heading if you use this method.

In my case, I just want to add a Google chart Candlestick to my Webi report, not a Google map. I have written the following java script in the cell and set it as "read content as HTML" to send the values to this Candlestick chart.

The highlighted red parts are the variables that pass the value from Webi to the Google chart.
It works fine when only 1 year data is sent, however there will be an error "MultiValue" when multiple years data is returned for Webi.
For example, my data format is :
[Year], [Min],[ Max], [5%], [95%]
2005, 100,   900,    110,   850
2006, 120, 1000,   150, 900
2007, 200,   120,     250, 1100
So do you know how to pass the Webi variable values to the Google chart to make it display the data dynamically?

can't find this information in Business Objects Designer's Guide and in Business Objects Administrator Guide.

If the change between the 2 types of data has to happen dynamically during run time them
1. Use 2 dataproviders
a. Current
b. Historic
2. Merge the 2 dimensions
3. Use Webi variable to switch between the measure of the current and historic universe
Ex if [year] < 2010 then historic.[expense] else current.[expense]

F4 help on variable screen only shows text or key...not both

In some queries, the F4 help will only show text oy key but not both. For example, the F4 help on 0employee only gives a list of personnel numbers. The search in the dialog box only works for the pernrs and we can't search for names.This is happening in some infoset queries and queries that are on multi-providers.
Is this something to do with read mode? Settings in the multi/infoset?
Any help is appreciated.

BICS - Passing variables to a BEx Query

Hi Experts,
We are currently developing dasboards in Dashboard Design (XCelsius) using BICS. Since we want to leverage the 'create once, reuse many times' principle, we would like to populate our (data intensive) dashboard using 8 connections that fill out different values in one and the same BEx Query. The results (8 crosstabs) will be put in our embedded sheet on 4 different tabs.
All data has to be refreshed before components are loaded (so this option is set for all connections).
Furthermore, we set the 8 connections with the following parameters:
[definiton tab].[input values].[variables].[BEx variable] > link to a cell containing tech name of input value
[definition tab].[input values].[filters].[key figures] > link to a cell containing the tech name of the key figure we want to display in the crosstabs.
Now, we are facing 2 problems:
1. The variables are not automatically passed to the BEx query (we see a BEx web variable input screen on launch)
2. The key figures are not filtered (we did set the tech key i.e. 8KPM8AAGH55L3ONGZC0Y27FBG)
Does anyone have similar experiences, using BICS and (ideally) found a solution yet? I'd like to avoid creating 8 different BEx queries to solve this. Thank you in advance!

Hi,
You have to map the excel cell to the exact keyfigure or vriable.
For example.
I have two filters in my BEx Query. Calendar Year & Country
For mapping these filters expand the ==>Filters in Data Manager of xCelsius. Then you can see Calendar Year and Country. Map Calendar Year to an excel cell as well as map the country to another excel cell.
Do this same for variable also.

Authorization varibles in web reports

i have an issue with authorization varibales.
in my query designer i have 5 variables. out of those 2 are user entry and ready for input. 3 are authorization objects and they are not ready for input. when i am executing the query in BEX it is asking for 2 varible inputs only. this is correct,
but the report when i am executing in web , variable input screen asking for all 5 variables. it should dipaly only 2.
what could be the reason behind this?.

How to define one filter over multiple dimensions

Hallo Everybody,
I am a SAP BW consultant trying to move the first steps in BO. I am quite new and unskilled in this area.
I built an Universe on a SAP BW query. This query is about Product master data. Among other characteristics I have defined also three year characteristics (Teil1, Teil2 and Teil3). In correspondence of every of those year characteristic a key figure is defined (Quant1, Quant2 and Quant3).
I have now the requirement to build a Web Intelligence report, being able to filter across the three year characteristics and reporting the corresponding key figures.
An example:
                 Teil1   Teil2    Teil3   Quant1 Quant2 Quant3
Record1   2001   2002   2003    10            20          30
Record2   2007   2009   2010    30            80         110
Record3   2002   2003   2005     6             40          30
I might be able to define a general filter over the characteristics Teil 1 Teil2 and Teil3, acting like that:
General Filter: 2003
Reported Values    Record1 Quant3 (30)
                               Record3 Quant2 (40)
since year 2003 is appearing only in record1 and 3 and not in record2.
What i am trying to build is a "or" condition Teil1 = 2003 Or Teil 2 = 2003 or Teil3 = 2003, where the year value is defined by the user at query execution.
I hope, my requirement is clear and, above all, you are able to help me.

you can create a quick filter that will be applied locally on the WebI report. All you have to do is to create a WebI variable that contains the OR condition and apply the filter to it:
assuming your variable is named MyVariable the formula will look like this:
=if (Teil1 = 2003 Or Teil 2 = 2003 or Teil3 = 2003) then 1 else 0
Then you have to apply the following filter on the report section you display your results
MyVariable=1
Please note that still all data will be fetched into your webi report and will be filtered after that. This may cause performance problems if we are talking about a large number of data. In this case you may ant to consider to add a customer exit variable into your BEx query.
