Weblogic 7 SP5 SQL Exceptions follow a JTA transaction timeout

I have a problem in Weblogic 7 SP5 that was not happening in SP2. I'm using the
Weblogic jDriver (weblogic.jdbc.mssqlserver4.Driver)
I have a transaction that times out due to JTA transaction timeout, and then gets
marked for rollback. For several minutes after the timeout, I get many SQL Exceptions
with bogus messages like "invalid column name" when the column name is, in fact,
correct.
Then the weblogic log file shows "Exception during rollback of transaction" (javax.transaction.SystemException:
Heuristic hazard). Next, the connection is tested on reserve, this test fails,
and the connection is refreshed. As soon as the connection is refreshed, I stop
getting SQL exceptions and everything starts working correctly again.
It seems like the transaction timeout is making the connection go bad, and somehow
other requests are using this bad connection before the transaction finishes rolling
back. What could the problem be? Some excerpts from my app log and weblogic log
are below.
com.workpoint.server.ejb.WorkPointEJBException: The transaction is no longer active

According to BEA's documentation, the jDriver is deprecated (no longer supported)
in WLS 7 SP5. Not sure when they stopped supporting it, but sometime after SP2,
apparently. Our solution, unfortunately, was to stay with SP2. Using the newer,
supported JDBC driver would presumably fix the problem, but we didn't have time
to do a full regression test with a different driver.Hi, no. The jDriver is deprecated, not unsupported. For WLS releases that contain
the jDriver it will be supported for as long as we support the WLS release!
Deprecation just means that we may choose to not supply that driver in any future
release, and will not support it in that or any subsequent release.
Practically, much depends on which jDriver you're using. In decreasing order
of practical support we have: The weblogic.jdbc.oci.Driver to Oracle: We do actively
continue to fix bugs in it. The weblogic.jdbc.mssqlserver4.Driver: Very unlikely that
we will fix any new problem with it. The weblogic.jdbc.ifmx.Driver: Even less
likely that we will do anything with it...
I hope that makes it better for you.

  • JTA transaction timeout vs. EJB transaction timeout

    Hi,
    can anybody tell me if the JTA transaction timeout, e.g. <JTA
    Name="myServer" TimeoutSeconds="60"/> works for EJBs as default transaction
    timeout if none is given in the deployment descriptor.
    I assumed that this is correct, and tried to test this by setting the
    JTA-timeout value to 1 (second). However I experienced no timeout exceptions
    in our logfile with this setting.

    This should work fine in 6.1 and 7.0. I believe it was broken in 6.0

  • Sql Exception on Testing Configuration with SQL Server JDBC driver for XA

    I have a requirement of analyzing the behavior of SQL Server JDBC data sources for XA transactions in our application.We have been using Non-XA drivers for both Oracle and SQL Server as we had no requirement for transactions spanning across multiple databases in past.I have setup and tested the XA driver for Oracle (Oracle Driver (Thin XA) for Instance Connections 9.0.1,9.2.0,10,11) in Weblogic 11g and its working perfectly for transactions spanning across two databases.No when I am trying to configure weblogic 11g R1 for Sql server JDBC driver to support XA transactions with driver details as follows,

    Database Driver :Oracle's MS SQL Server Driver(Type 4 XA) Version:7.0,2000,2005)

    Can some one please provide some input on whats causing this and any other steps needs to be followed to implement XA support using SQL Server JDBC driver.

    You seem to have done everything correctly and diligently. I would ask that you open
    an official support case.

  • Wls 10.3 weblogic-webservices.xml transaction-timeout attribute not working

    Hi, need some urgent need.
    I have a stateless ejb webservice and I'm trying to set the transaction timeout for some of the methods. Right now my webservice transaction is timing out to the default of 30 secs. I've tried setting in the admin console the JTA transaction timeout option, didn't work (file a case with bea support #81233). And after days of researching and searching I came across that you can setup the weblogic webservice transaction-timeout thru the weblogic-webservices.xml deployment descriptor. Tried setting the transaction-timeout attribute to 120 secs. and that didn't work. Here is the snippet of the xml file.

  • Transaction Timeout Exception

    Hello all
    Problem...
    I am retrieving approx 1200 records from an Oracle database via an CMP EJB findByXXXXX method. The problem is my Transaction times out after 30 seconds.
    What I have already done...
    I'm using Weblogic 6.0 and have configured the JTA to timeout after 2 minutes. However, I'm still getting a Transaction timeout exception after only 30 seconds. I would Appreciate any help. Thank-you....

    I can envisage this happening only in a case where the update is taking a longer time than the value of JTA transaction timeout.
    Is this happening for all BPEL instances or some of them get thru succesfully ?
    Are you EVER updating that particular row of your table ( before/after) ?

  • Weblogic Eclipselink Sequence Table Connection Pool Sequence Separate transaction while JTA on main transaction

    Hi,
    And thanks in advance for your support.
    In weblogic 12, managing to get the eclipse link connection sequencing mechanism when one uses Tables for sequencing entity ids seems to be complicated.
    QUICK REFERENCE:
    http://www.eclipse.org/eclipselink/api/2.5/org/eclipse/persistence/config/PersistenceUnitProperties.html
    The concept:
    While having EJB, MDBs etc... run on a JEE container, be it glassfish or weblogic, it should be possible to have the main thread transaction be managed as part of JTA global transactions by the contianer.
    Namely, pumping messages to JMS queues, persisting entities etc.
    Meanwhile, it should be also possible to as the transaction is on going write and update entity ids from sequencing tables.
    For this very purpose, eclipse link provides persistence.xml properties, such as the now deprecated eclipselink.jdbc.sequence-connection-pool" value="true", to fullfill this very purpose.
    This option greatly avoids dead longs, by allowing eclipse link to fetch a non JTA managed connection, pseudo "two phase locking read table update table" go to the datbase and fetch a new sequence.
    The same mechnism under JTA is a disaster. A transaction that creates ten different entities, might do ten reads and updates on this table, while mean while a competing transaction might be trying to do the same. It is guaranteed dead lock with minimal stress on the environment.
    Under glassfish, for example, tagging a persistence.xml with :
    <persistence-unit name="MY_PU" transaction-type="JTA">
            <provider>org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider</provider>
            <jta-data-source>jdbc/DERBY_DS</jta-data-source>
            <non-jta-data-source>jdbc/DERBY_DS</non-jta-data-source>
            <properties>
                <property name="eclipselink.jdbc.sequence-connection-pool" value="true" />
            </properties>
    </peristence-unit>
    does miracles, when entities are using TABLE sequencing.
    Under weblogic, say you are using the Derby embedded XA driver with two phase commit, deploying the applicaiton immediately leads to:
    Exception [EclipseLink-4002] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 2.3.3.v20120629-r11760): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.DatabaseException
    Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLException: Cannot call commit when using distributed transactions

      at org.eclipse.persistence.internal.databaseaccess.DatasourceAccessor.commitTransaction(DatasourceAccessor.java:389)

      at org.eclipse.persistence.internal.sequencing.ClientSessionSequencing.getNextValue(ClientSessionSequencing.java:70)
      at org.eclipse.persi
    While weblogic is right that their might be a distributed transaction ongoing, it is mistaken in the fact tha tthe connection requested by eclipse link for generating the ID should be part of the global transaciton.
    Eclipse link provides other ways to attempt to configure the sequencing mechanism, by sating for example a non-jta transaction.
    I have attempted also using these properties both withe original data DERBY_DS that uses the XA driver, and later with a new data source i created on purpose to try to work around the sequencing contengy.
    For example:
    <!--property name="eclipselink.jdbc.sequence-connection-pool.nonJtaDataSource" value="jdbc/DERBY_SEQUENCING_NON_JTA" /-->
                <!--property name="eclipselink.connection-pool.sequence.nonJtaDataSource" value="jdbc/DERBY_SEQUENCING_NON_JTA" /-->
    This new DERBY_SEQUENCING_NON_JTA is explicitly configured to use a NON_XA driver with global transactions flag set to disabled.
    Regardless, the only thing I get out of this is that the application is deployed and super fast, up to the point where i stress it with a system test that introduces some degreee of concurrency, and then I see the dead locks on the sequencing table.
    Meaning that the ongoing transactions are holding tight to their locks on the sequencing table.
    Is this a known issue?
    Is there something I am missing in the configuration?
    It really should not be this diffcult to get eclipse link to run its sequence reads and updates on a separate transaction of the main JTA transaction, but so far looks impossible.
    Exception [EclipseLink-4002] (Eclipse Persistence Services - 2.3.3.v20120629-r11760): org.eclipse.persistence.exceptions.DatabaseException
    Internal Exception: java.sql.SQLTransactionRollbackException: A lock could not be obtained within the time requested

    Many thanks for your help.

    Are you calling the cmp bean code and your new Sql code under a same transactional context?
    The following setting
    "rollbackLocalTxUponConnClose=true"
    will make the connectionpool to call the rollback method on the connection object before keeping it back in the pool. In your sql code if you are calling connection.close() , then your entire transaction will be rolled back.
    CMP bean requires a transactional connection while communicating with the database.
    What is the sequence of code execution?
    I think you must be calling sql code first and then cmp bean code later.
    You may avoid this problem in this way. This is my guess based on my understanding on your code execution.
    1. set rollbackLocalTxUponConnClose=false
    Execute the sql code and cmp code in a single transaction (in a single session bean method with cmt or bmt transaction ). Specify tx.rollback if it is bmt. or call tx.setRollbackOnly() if it is a cmt. In this way you will have control to roll back the transactions.
    Hope this helps you.
    bmt-> bean managed transaction
    cmt-> container managed transaction.
    Regards,
    Seshi.

    Hi,
    “All but one database are upgradable. However, one database gives:
    Invalid object name 'Webs'.”
    Did the sentence you mean only one database not upgrade to SharePoint 2013 and given the error?
    One or more of the following might be the cause:
    Insufficient SQL Server database permissions
    SQL Server database is full
    Incorrect MDAC version
    SQL Server database not found
    Incorrect version of SQL Server
    SQL Server collation is not supported
    Database is read-only
    To resolve the issue, you can refer to the following article which contains the causes and resolutions.

    PreparedStatement cal = conn.createPreparedStatement(" SELECT count(1) " +
    " FROM hz_parties hp, hz_cust_accounts_all hca, hz_cust_acct_sites_all hcas " +

    exceptions.add(new OAException("Error in the custom query, Contact Administrator" , OAException.INFORMATION));

    Myself fixed by removing the profile org id from query and put it outside

  • Sql exception occurred during pl/sql upload error in custom integrator

    Hi,
    I have modified custom integrator which was working fine. I have added one column in template and the lov is working fine.
    Issue is that when i upload the file to oracle it showing error as ''sql exception occurred during pl/sql upload".
    I have tried executing the same from back end but it was working fine from back end and inserting properly in interface table.
    Kindly suggest for the issue.
    Regards,
    Gk

    Hi,
    You can get the error message in excel sheet itself by using the following piece of code.
    FND_MESSAGE.CLEAR;
    FND_MESSAGE.SET_NAME ('APPLICATION', 'APPLICATION_MESSAGE_NAME');
    FND_MESSAGE.SET_TOKEN ('ERROR_TOKEN', ERROR MESSAGE);
    FND_MESSAGE.RAISE_ERROR;
    Create an excpetion block and include the above piece of code whilde catching the exception.
    APPLICATION- The applicatio in which you create message
    APPLICATION_MESSAGE_NAME-  The message Name
    ERROR_TOKEN- You must create a token in application message
    ERROR MESSAGE- You can see the  error using SQLERRM.
    Thanks,
    Vinoop

  • SQl Exception while connecting to Oracle Databse : Network adaptar .......

    hi !
    I am geeting an SQL Exception ...
    Network apdator could not establish connection..
    the code is as follows
    String driverName = "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver";
    String dbURL = "jdbc:oracle:thin:@server:1521:biz";
    String uName = "uidt";
    String pwd = "pwd";
    Class.forName(driverName);
    conn = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL, uName, pwd);
    Please help me out !!

    First aid check list for "connection refused":
    - Check host name in connect string.
    - Check port number in connect string.
    - Try numeric IP address of server host in connect string, in case name server is hosed.
    - Are there any firewalls between client and server blocking the port.
    - Check that the db server is running.
    - Check that the db server is listening to the port. On the server, try: "telnet localhost the-port-number". Or "netstat -an", there should be a listening entry for the port.
    - Try "telnet serverhost the-port-number" from the client, to see if firewalls are blocking it.
    - If "telnet" fails: try it with the numeric ip address.
    - If "telnet" fails: does it fail immediately or after an obvious timeout? How long is the timeout?
    - Does the server respond to "ping serverhost" or "telnet serverhost" or "ssh serverhost"?
