Weblogic, EJBs and Corba

Has anyone been successful accessing EJBs from pure Corba clients with
Weblogic server? WOuld like some feedback on your experience and what
you did.

I am having a problem with BEA WebLogic. Let me describe the problem:
Problem Description:
What I need is to pass some arbitrary piece of data between the RMI client and server, so I want to inject the data on the client and retrieve it on the server (the ultimate goal being able to trace transaction flow across multiple app servers)
CORBA Portable Interceptors fit the bill perfectly and are designed for that specific purpose. The interceptors are CORBA standard and were added to J2EE 1.4 standard. Sun own ORB, IBM WebSphere and JBOSS all support Portable Interceptors.
WebLogic does not :(
I looked at WebLogic documentation and could find no replacement for interception of RMI flow. The last resort is code instrumentation, but I really want to avoid that since I have to support J2SE 1.4 code that is prior to javaagent.
Has anyone ever implemented something similar for WebLogic (v8.1 and up) or can point me to any feature of the product that can help me?

    I'm confused as to the relation between EJB and CORBA. Some books I've read say that CORBA is used to implement the underlying RMI protocol in EJB while others say it is an alternative to EJB.

    Could you pleae restate your question.
    I'm assuming you want to bind a Corba object to a
    CosNaming service from within a j2ee component. JNDI
    supports this case fully via their CosNaming service provider
    (see http://java.sun.com/products/jndi/serviceproviders.html) JNDI is part of J2SE, so it's fully available to any J2EE component.

  • Oracle AQ and XA from WebLogic EJB and Conn pool

    Hi,
    Currently, I am deploying WebLogic server 6.1 sp1.
    Recently, I have tried to use a connection created from
    the WebLogic pool in order to create a queue connection to Oracle AQ
    (9.0.1). The
    error message I got is as follows:
    "JMS-112: Connection is invalid"
    What I have noticed is that the instance returned from the connection pool
    is of
    type "weblogic.jdbc.rmi.SerialConnection",
    but Oracle AQ expects type "oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection".
    Is there any solution or work-around for this problem?
    Further I want to use Oracle AQ JMS in a distributed XA transaction so I
    have to get the connection from an XA pool don't I (so that the TM knows to
    enlist it in the transaction).
    Unfortunaltey because Oracle AQ internally explicitely checks that the JDBC
    Connection is an instance of oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleConnection (which is
    a concrete class not an interface!) and we appear to get a
    weblogic.jdbc.rmi.SerialConnection then it seems using AQ JMS is not
    possible in an XA transaction.
    Now this isn't WebLogic's fault, I think it's Oracle's for having a shonky
    JMS implementation. There's plenty of other weaknesses (read non JMS
    compliant) in Oralce AQ and it appears that AQ JMS is more of a "JMS-like"
    interface to Oracle's queuing rather than a genuine attempt to provide a
    compliant implementation.
    I think you have to go to Oracle Containers for J2EE to get a real JMS
    implementation from them...
    Has anyone else got AQ to work in an XA transaction?

    I am able to connect and message to Oracle AQ using an XA Datasource using the getVendorConnection method on the Weblogic connection wrapper (WLConnection).
    This, however, seems to be memory leaking quite badly. I've followed the Weblogic documentation (which says that you should not call close() on the Vendor connection).
    I've also tried closing the vendorConnection object and nulling out the reference that the WLConnection holds. This slows the leak, but it appears that the WLConnections are never being released.
    Has anyone else had any success doing this?

    call a remote non Tuxedo ORB via rmi-iiop. Now I am wondering whether I can have
    a Weblogic ejb call a remote non tuxedo ORB via rmi-iiop. From the documentation
    all that I can find is how to call into Websphere with an idl client, and how
    to use rmi-iiop to a remote, I am assuming, Websphere server. The only reference
    I can find is at http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs70/faq/server.html#287901, but
    it does not detail how the client finds the object.
    In my java client example I had a string ior which I passed to string_to_object().
    This returns an "object" that when I invoke a method of, the CORBA client miniorb
    would then send via IIOP to the remote orb. I implemented something similar in
    an ejb (using a string ior and calling string_to_object) and compiled it with
    my stubs. When I run it, it appears that it works fine until the actual _invoke()
    where it calls calls out via iiop and I get the following exception:

    In WLS releases prior to 7.1 this will only involve the JDK orb and so
    you should look through the JDK docs for the minor code. In general
    this sort of failure means that you have got the host or port
    wrong. You should check that the test works standalone before trying
    it inside WLS.

    Dear gurubbc,
    I don't know if it still matters to you but you can use the javax.ejb.MessageDriven annotation to point your bean on your queue. I had the same issue like you but i could not solve it properly by switchihg to weblogic.ejb.MessageDriven.
    Use the following annotation and it should work out:
    @MessageDriven
    (mappedName = "queue/mdb",
    name = "CalculatorBean",
    activationConfig = {
    @ActivationConfigProperty(propertyName = "destinationType", propertyValue = "javax.jms.Queue")
    Here you can see that the mappedName is the JNDI name of the queue you are trying to connect to. The name is the name for your Bean, and the only property passed is the destination type.

  • WebLogic 11g and Spring beens injected into EJB

    All,
    I am getting an error injecting spring managed beans into EJB's within WebLogic 11g. I am using an interceptor extending the SpringBeanAutowiringInterceptor to set the context name by overriding the getBeanFactoryLocatorKey method. This is configured within the ejb-jar.xml file as an interceptor-binding for all ejb's. The beanRefContext.xml is in the root of the ejb jar and on the class path.
    The application deploys however when I can the remote ejb interface the following error occurs. The remote interface and model passed on the method call are deployed within a ejb-client jar file that within both the ejb and web applications class path. The ejb and web app are deployed separately i.e. the web app is deployed as a war out with the ejb ear.
    Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this? I suspect it is something to do with the class loaders / classpath and where the sping managed context is being loaded from. The Spring jars are deployed within the root of the ear and referenced within the Class-Path manifest.

    After some tinkering with this I am now getting a different error. I believe the error has changed as I am now deploying Spring 2.5.3 with my EJB. Does anyone have an idea on what is causing this?
    Note I have also deployed the code onto OC4J and it works fine.

  • Weblogic-ejb-jar.xml generation and editing question with JEE5 / EJB3

    Since EJBGen only works with EJB 2.1, is there a way to auto-generate weblogic-ejb-jar.xml when using a JEE5 ejb module?
    In the tooling like OEPE 11g, an EJB3 project will generate an empty deployment descriptor weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file if you mark it that way in the wizard, but it doesn't populate it with any values.
    Is the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file is created/edited by hand, do the settings like this example still work or even make sense given the changes in the spec between 2.1 and 3.0?

    For a JEE5 EJB module, rather than using EJBGen, you can use WLS specific annotations for configuring common settings. If you follow the link below, you can see a list of supported EJB annotations. Disregard the fact that the documentation section title is WebLogic Kodo Annotations. That is incorrect and I've filed a bug for it.

    Unfortunately, we don't yet support setting all weblogic-ejb-jar.xml configuration values via annoations so in some cases a weblogic-ejb-jar.xml is still required.

  • Application deployment order with weblogic-ejb-jar.xml and jndi-name

    I have two applicatation working on Weblogic server v. 10.3.6.
    First of them creating one ejb stateless bean and creates JNDI maping for it (in weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file):

    How can I configure deployment order that first application make jndi mapping for bean, before the second application will use it ?

  • Storing ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml

    We are using Weblogic Integration 9.2 on a 2 cluster system sharing the same domain directory.
    1) I am wondering if I can store these files somewhere in the domains directory instead of the EJB's archive - call it MyEjb.jar?
    2) Are there any benefits to storing these files outside of the MyEjb.jar file? I am thinking to make it easier to update the configurations such as number of MDB consumers and such to avoid having to recreate the MyEjb.jar with the new config and redeploy the application. A simple text edit and bounce could be fine if the files can be stored outside.
    2b) Can another application in the same domain read these files to find out the connection factory and queue information?
    3) Are there any disadvantages to storing those files outside of the jar file? One issue I can think of here is how to deal with them on a cluster environment.
    4) Any other feedback apprecaited.

    but in this case you need a deployment plan to point weblogic to the file. The ejb-jar.xml cannot be
    external (see external=false)
    The benefit of storing the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml is that your administrator can fine tune certain
    configurations by using a deployment plan, instead of having to extract the contents from the jar file
    and then repackage it again.
    No need to worry about a clustered environment, you can place the jar and the deployment plan
    on the server where the admin server is located, when you deploy an application you deploy it to
    the cluster and everything is taken care off.

  • How will be the weblogic-ejb-jar and ejb-jar xml for EJB Local Interface?

    I have one ear application which is using Stateless Session Beans. I don't have any Bean to Bean communication . At present, the client is invoking remote methods thro Home/Remote interfaces. My doubt is , shall I implement EJBLocal home/ local interface to obtain this same functionality cos, in this app, both client and EJb bean have been deployed in same JVM. Can Local interfaces only be applicable to Bean - Bean relation ship?If LocalHome/Local interfaces can be implemented in my scenario, then may I know how will be the ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml?

    Local interfaces are for communication between ejbs and their clients when both are in the same JVM. The clients can be normal clients, jsps, servlets, and other ejbs. If the client is not in the same JVM you cannot use local interfaces even though your client is another ejb.
    Advantage of using local interface is it reduces the network overhead.

    I get a strange problem when I try to log in to the J2EE application based on EJBs:

    I see that I can add an option to the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file, and I hope that can help for my previous problem:

    So I have tried to open the module.jar that contained this file. I have checked: the file is not read-only. I have modified directly manually the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file, but now I get this error in Jbuilder when I open the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml file:

  • Weblogic with soap and corba

    Hi all.
    I'm running a soap server under weblogic.
    The soap server is also a corba client.
    while sending corba requests, it seems that nothing happens, i.e. I get timeout messages all the time, and the corba server, which is another application, does not log no request.
    NOTE. When the soap server was under tomcat everything worked perfectly.
    My question is: is therer a problem with weblogic? and how can i configure it to allow corba requests?

    With Weblogic you need to use their samples. Follow the instructions to run the samples and look at the code then you can mimick their approach to write your own.
