Storing ejb-jar.xml and weblogic-ejb-jar.xml

We are using Weblogic Integration 9.2 on a 2 cluster system sharing the same domain directory.
1) I am wondering if I can store these files somewhere in the domains directory instead of the EJB's archive - call it MyEjb.jar?
2) Are there any benefits to storing these files outside of the MyEjb.jar file? I am thinking to make it easier to update the configurations such as number of MDB consumers and such to avoid having to recreate the MyEjb.jar with the new config and redeploy the application. A simple text edit and bounce could be fine if the files can be stored outside.
2b) Can another application in the same domain read these files to find out the connection factory and queue information?
3) Are there any disadvantages to storing those files outside of the jar file? One issue I can think of here is how to deal with them on a cluster environment.
4) Any other feedback apprecaited.

If you look at the contents of a deployment plan (Plan.xml) when you have it generated
<deployment-plan ...>
  <module-override>
    <module-name>ejb.jar</module-name>
    <module-type>ejb</module-type>
    <module-descriptor external="true">
      <root-element>weblogic-ejb-jar</root-element>
      <uri>META-INF/weblogic-ejb-jar.xml</uri>
    </module-descriptor>
    <module-descriptor external="false">
      <root-element>ejb-jar</root-element>
      <uri>META-INF/ejb-jar.xml</uri>
    </module-descriptor>
    <module-descriptor external="true">
      <root-element>persistence-configuration</root-element>
      <uri>META-INF/persistence-configuration.xml</uri>
    </module-descriptor>
    <module-descriptor external="false">
      <root-element>persistence</root-element>
      <uri>META-INF/persistence.xml</uri>
    </module-descriptor>
  </module-override>
</deployment-plan>You can see which files can be external and which can be not. The weblogic-ejb-jar.xml can be external
but in this case you need a deployment plan to point weblogic to the file. The ejb-jar.xml cannot be
external (see external=false)
The benefit of storing the weblogic-ejb-jar.xml is that your administrator can fine tune certain
configurations by using a deployment plan, instead of having to extract the contents from the jar file
and then repackage it again.
No need to worry about a clustered environment, you can place the jar and the deployment plan
on the server where the admin server is located, when you deploy an application you deploy it to
the cluster and everything is taken care off.
More information on deployment plans can be found here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11035_01/wls100/deployment/config.html

    yes....if you are using only hibernate3.jar and no other jars from hibernate then you need this jars for hibernate to work.
    antlr-2.7.6rc1.jar
    asm.jar
    asm-attrs.jar
    cglib-2.1.3.jar
    commons-collections-2.1.1.jar
    commons-logging-1.0.4.jar
    dom4j-1.6.1.jar
    ehcache-1.1.jar
    hibernate3.jar
    jaas.jar
    jaxen-1.1-beta-7.jar
    jdbc2_0-stdext.jar
    jta.jar
    log4j-1.2.11.jar
    ojdbc14.jar
    xerces-2.6.2.jar
    xml-apis.jar
    if you are missing any of those, hibernate won't work.
    You can check in MyEclipse which jars hibernate needs to run successfully. Just go under Window/Preferences, and there go under MyEclipse/Project Capabilities/Hibernate and select tab Hibernate 3.1 and under Library modules select Hibernate 3.1 Core Libraries, and you will see which jars hibernate need. ;)

  • Difference between prefer-application-packages in weblogic.xml and weblogic-application.xml?

    Hi!
    When deploying a WAR to WebLogic 10.3.5, what is the difference between the prefer-application-packages element in the files weblogic.xml and weblogic-application.xml?
    In my WARs WEB-INF/lib/ I have a JAR that contains classes that are already provided by the container (but older versions).
    If I do not use prefer-application-packages then my app gets the classes provided by the container.
    If I use prefer-application-packages in weblogic.xml then I get the classes from WAR/WEB-INF/lib which is expected.
    But if I use prefer-application-packages in weblogic-application.xml then I get the container versions. Why?
    Is there a difference between those two options?
    The exact data I use is:

  • JBuilder 5 and WebLogic 6.1 Problem  (1) ??

    I use JBuilde5 and WebLogic 6.1 to develop a statusful session bean.
    I use WLS default server

    Thank Chuck ...
    Finally , I find the problem which is not the deployment in mydomain or
    exampleserver
    I find the problem is that JBuilder 5 can not deploy EJB fine into WLS6.1.
    You should deploy EJB by using WLS6.1 console and then JNDI Lookup will
    success.
    If you do that , the same EJB redeployment thru JBuilder 5 afterward are all
    fine,
    That is why I always fail in mydomain but success in example server
    because I have ever deployed the EJB by WLS6.1 console manually.
    I think the deployment mechanism between WLS6.1 and WLS 6.0 is different.

    Alan,
    Given that it works in the 'examples' domain, are you sure you deployedthe jar
    file that contains the EJB in the 'mydomain'? If it wasn't deployedsuccessfully
    for the default 'mydomain' you would receive a failure on the JNDI lookup.
    I would read thru some of our online documentation on jar deployments andthe
    domain concepts - - here are some relevant links

    We are in the process of eveluating WebLogic 6.0. We have 5.1 installed,but do not have anything in
    production yet. We have developed and tested a few applications that donot really hit WebLogic
    that hard. We figured that now is the time to upgrade since we don't haveanything in production yet and
    since there are some major setup & administrative differences. Throughthe grapevine in our company
    someone apparently spoke to our BEA rep who suggested that we stick with5.1 for a while since 6.0 is
    apparently very buggy. I looked through the bug reports, and there reallyisn't anything too significant (at least
    that relates to our current implementation). Is there any truth to this?Would you not recommend an upgrade
    given our situation?
    Also, we are planning to attend the WL 6.0 admin training. If we didn'tupgrade to 6.0, would the training be
    a waste of time, or could we apply that knowledge to 5.1?

  • Issue in bringing up CRS on ATG 10.1.1 with MySQL and Weblogic 10.3

    Hello,
    I am trying to bring up Commerce Reference Store as part of my evaluation using MySQL (bundled with ATG) and WebLogic 10.3.
    I followed the ATG Documentation on CRS with WebLogic and MySQL and I could not proceed because of the below error log. I keep getting error in OnlineCreateServerInstanceTask of CIM. I believe it should be some configuration problem, but could not think of any.
    As part of the installation, I use C:\jdk1.6.0_25. I verified my weblogic server is up through the admin console. I started MySQL before running the eval batch. Apart from starting MySQL server, I did not make any datasource/database configuration changes for ATG. I have not run any other scripts to configure MySQL too.
    Please guide me to resolve the problem.

    Thanks.

    This error is resolved after following the logs in C:\ATG\ATG10.1.1\CIM\log\cim.log. The root cause is I used http as protocol instead of t3 while specifying weblogic admin url.
    http://localhost:7001 instead of t3://localhost:7001
    Thanks.

  • How to get datasources to work on both JBoss and Weblogic?

    We have an EJB3 application that needs to be deployed both on JBoss 4 and WebLogic 10.
    JBoss creates datasources with JNDI names "java:dsName" , WebLogic uses a pattern "dsName" (and trying to add "java:" to that leads to nasty errors). Despite what the EJB3 books say, looking up that DS using "java:comp/env/dsName" does not work from WebLogic, it simply doesn't register the datasource in that namespace.
    The @Resource annotation takes a mappedName argument as the JNDI name for the datasource, but this is required to be a fixed String (so we can't inject the actual name at runtime depending on the deployment environment).
    All data access is through session beans, so using an @PersistenceContext is no option.
    At the moment we're trying to get around this by creating a special EJB whose only job it is to figure out what server it's running on and find a datasource the hard way (using JNDI lookups), returning that to the EJBs that need it, but that's not supposed to be the way the EJB3 model is supposed to work.

    All Java EE implementations are required to support the private component namespace -- java:comp/env/. It's there for the express purpose of providing portable access to resources needed by the code. What is not specified is the way in which a particular Java EE implementation allows the mapping between a component namespace entry, e.g. java:comp/env/dsName, and the corresponding physical datasource to be expressed.
    Unfortunately, mappedName is not required to be supported. However, even if you don't use mappedName each vendor must have a way to resolve a component environment dependency to the corresponding datasource. In SUN's implementation, this is done via sun-{ejb | web | application-client}.xml. The key is that the source depends on the java:comp/env/... name and the mapping to a physical resource can be changed as part of the application assembly or deployment process without touching the code.
    Here's a presentation describing some of these issues in more detail : https://glassfish.dev.java.net/javaee5/ejb/compdependencies_xmlforum_nov15.pdf

  • Session Beans  and TIBCO E4JMS and Weblogic JMS 8.1

              Setup:-
              Weblogic Server 8.1 SP2 on Linux
              TIBCO E4JMS 3.1.2
              I have a two Staeless Session Beans which are deployed in both sides of the cluster
              - Cluster is made up of two servers(ManagedServer1 and ManagedServer2) on the
              same machine. The beans have container managed transaction and trans-type set
              to required. The JMS Server is on ManagedServer1. The session bean publishes 100
              messages to TIBCO JMS and Weblogic JMS and calls the second bean which again publishes
              100 messages to TIBCO JMS and Weblogic JMS .
              The connection factories used are XAQueueConnectionFactories.
              This seems to work under the following conditions:-
              a) The session beans are deployed just in ManagedServer1
              b) The WL load balancing scheme manages to run both the beans on ManagedServer1
              c) If I don't publish onto Weblogic JMS( It runs successfully on ManagedServer1
              and ManagedServer2)
              It does not seems to work :-
              When the The WL load balancing scheme manages to run both the beans on ManagedServer2.I
              put debug statements on the beans and it seems to publish everything but fails
              during the commit

              Apologies in advance if this need to be posted in the JTA news group..
              Any ideas?

    Posting to the transaction newsgroup would probably also be helpful.
              Can you post the code for the session bean so we can see how you're
              enlisting Tibco in the transaction? It looks like you're using the JMS
              provider wrappers from 8.1, which do the transaction enlistment for you, so
              you shouldn't need to mess with JTA at all in your code. Still, something
              weird is going on and it'd be nice to see exactly what your code looks like.

  • Problems with Cocoon 2.03 and Weblogic 6.1 SP3

    I am having problems with Cocoon 2.03 and Weblogic 6.1 SP3, when I try to deploy
    the cocoon.war.
    Cocoon works fine when I unpack the cocoon.war into ...\mydomain\applications
    (after I changed cocoon.xconf to use the following transformer factory: org.apache.xalan.processor.TransformerFactoryImpl).
    However, when I deploy the cocoon.war through the weblogic console and try to
    invoke cocoon (http://localhost:7001/cocoon/) I get the following error:
    ERROR (2002-09-26) 11:28.40:859 [sitemap] (/cocoon/) ExecuteThread: '7' for
    queue: 'default'/Handler: Error compiling sitemap

    I understood that there were problems when the cocoon.war file that did occur
    when you unpacked the war, but I believed that these problems did not occur with
    WLS6.1 SP3.
    Has anyone else encountered this problem and solved it? Any help would be greatly
    appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Paul

    This how I got Cocoon 2.04 up and running on WLS 6.1.4
    Download the Cocoon source from http://xml.apache.org/cocoon/dist/
    Remove all but the following JARs from lib/optional:
    commons-jxpath-1.0.jar
    jing-20020724.jar
    resolver-20020130.jar
    servlet_2_2.jar
    commons-logging-1.0.jar
    jtidy-04aug2000r7-dev.jar
    rhino-1.5r3.jar
    xt-19991105.jar
    Update lib/jars.xml to reflect these changes

    Deploy the resluting cocoon.war and you should have a Cocoon up and running that
    can do the XML->HTML Hello World sample. The status page works fine too.
    My advice is to launch this stripped configuration first and if needed add more
    features later by adding the JARs of your choice to the class path (or add the
    to your webapp-build if you are confident that WLS are capable of handling their
    manifests).
    Good luck

    Cocoon works fine when I unpack the cocoon.war into ...\mydomain\applications

    However, when I deploy the cocoon.war through the weblogic console and

  • LDAP groups and WebLogic Roles - Urgent ( weblogic 6.1 sp1, iPLanet 5.1)

    I have 2 questions and these are very urgent :-
    1. Where the mapping can be defined between LDAP groups and WebLogic Roles. I have
    2 groups in iPLanet :- Contarctors and employees and I have 2 security roles in weblogic:-
    contractactors and employess. How do I map LDAP group contractors to weblogic security
    Role contractors? Similarly for employees ?
    2. I have not defined contarctors and employeees under People container in IPlanet.
    e.g. The RDN for contractor is
    uid=1234,ou=dir,dc=orams,dc=com
    Can I still use the defualt security realm of weblogic (the WebLogic Security Realm
    under People ) OR I have to write my own custom code ?
    3. I am planning to use Roles insetad of groups to manage the logical grouping in
    iPLant. Can I still use the groups in WebLogic security realm ( in the configuratin
    parameters ?)
    This is very urgent ....so if any of you can throw any hints that will be greatly

    Hi Ariel,
    The driver is bundled with the product in WLS 6.1sp1. you don't have to
    download any additional driver. Use it as you normally would only thing to
    remember is if you are trying to write standalone java code then you have to
    have weblogic.jar in your classpath. For the rest of the info follow the wls
    docs for 6.1

  • JDeveloper and Weblogic Server - DOESN't WORK

    Hi All,
    Yesterday, I was working fine with JDeveloper 11.1.1.6 until I tried to do a deployment (like normally I do) and Weblogic wouldn't start. It was giving me an error, something like 'premature end of file' and security stuff. However, my colleagues told me to rename the folder defaultDomain under C:\Users\Alejandro\AppData\Roaming\JDeveloper\system11.1.1.6.38.61.92. So I did. It didn't help.
    I restarted the computer, reinstalled JDeveloper in a new middleware nothing. I created a new Windows user and repeated the process. Nothing.
    My log when creating the domain is

    Really don't know much about your problem but whenever i have weired problem like these..... (it has happened twice in last one year) I just renamed that sytem 11.1.1.6.38.61.92 folder
    next time i start Jdev, it creates this folder and everything started working fine.... the main problem here is that.... you have to setup your connections, version control and other weblogic specific items again...... from my experience, that has been worked out well.....

  • Getting empty log files with log4j and WebLogic 10.0

    Hi!
    I get empty log files with log4j 1.2.13 and WebLogic 10.0. If I don't run the application in the application server, then the logging works fine.
    The properties file is located in a jar in the LIB folder of the deployed project. If I change the name of the log file name in the properties file, it just creates a new empty file.
    What could be wrong?
    Thanks!

    I assume that when you change the name of the expected log file in the properties file, the new empty file is that name, correct?
    That means you're at least getting that properties file loaded by log4j, which is a good sign.
    As the file ends up empty, it appears that no logger statements are being executed at a debug level high enough for the current debug level. Can you throw in a logger.error() call at a point you're certain is executed?

    Hi,
    I'm not sure what you are asking but all you need to do once you have VAJ
    configured to run WLS is to deploy your bean (put it in the weblogic.ejb.deploy
    property in the weblogic.properties file) and run the weblogic server inside of
    VAJ. Of course, you will need to run a client that uses the bean to be able to
    step through the execution of a bean method...

  • JMS Bridge Between HornetQ (on Jboss 5.1) and WebLogic 10.3

    Greetings!
    I'm trying to set up a bridge between HornetQ (JBoss 5.1) and WebLogic 10.3. The bridge should be set up on WebLogic. It'll read messages from queue on HornetQ and post them on WebLogic Queue.
    Here are my preferences on Source Destination:
    Adapter JNDI Name eis.jms.WLSConnectionFactoryJNDINoTx
    Classpath: empty (?)
    Connection URL: jnp://<hostName>:1099
    Initial Context Factory: org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory
    Connection Factory JNDI Name: /tp/ConnectionFactory
    Connection JNDI Name: /etgreceiver/queue
    Destination Type: Queue
    User Name: guest
    User Password: guest.
    WebLogic prints a warning: <12.10.2010 18:25:40 MSD> <Warning> <Connector> <BEA-190032> << eis/jms/WLSConnectionFactoryJNDINoTX > resourceAllocationException thrown by resource adapter on call to ManagedConnectionFactory.createManagedConnection(): "javax.resource.ResourceException: ConnectionFactory: failed to get initial context (InitialContextFactory =org.jnp.interfaces.NamingContextFactory, url = jnp://AIskrich:11099, user name = guest) ">
    I have no idea what the problem is, could anyone help?

    Yes - I think "pre_classpath" is probably the right place to reference the non-WebLogic jars. That said, layered products like BPEL often provide tooling that simplifies messaging integration -- I assume some even help setup classpaths and may have their own recommended unique way to set them. So I recommend consulting your layered product's documentation and forums.
    It looks like this posting already covers the needed HornetQ specific settings. If it turns out that you're still interested in working directly at the WebLogic layer instead of the BPEL layer, see the interop FAQ http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13727/interop.htm#JMSPG553 for a full treatment of WebLogic's built in JMS provider integration features.
